CARLSON Paul J. Carlson, age 65, of Canal Winchester, went to be with the Lord February 27, 2001 at his residence. Paul was born April 4, 1935 and raised in Lovington, Ill., son of the late Arvied John and Irene (Coon) Carlson. In 1953, he joined the U.S. Air Force and served his country for 20 years as a aircraft mechanic/crew chief. Retired Senior M/Sgt., Vietnam Veteran serving 2 tours of duty in South East Asia. He was retired from Core Materials Corp. Also preceded in death by brothers Harold "Rabbit" Carlson and Herman Carlson and father-in-law Othel "Curly" Friesner. Paul will be greatly missed by his loving family. Survived by wife of 45 years, Shirley; sons, John (Vivian) Carlson, Grove City, Jim (Patricia) Carlson, Pataskala and Scott (Jodi) Carlson, Pickerington; granddaughters, Shelbi and Kelsi Carlson; brothers, Robert (Shirley) Carlson, Panama City, Fla. and Richard (Nancy) Carlson, Decatur, Ill.; mother-in-law, Lorraine Friesner, Little Elm, Tex.; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Glenn and Dolores (Friesner) Woodard, Frisco, Tex.; several nieces, nephews and a host of dear friends. Friends may visit Thursday 6-8 p.m. at the DWAYNE R. SPENCE FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY, 650 W. CARPENTER Mr. Errett LaRue Carpenter, Jr., age 81, of Columbus, died Tuesday February 27, 2001 at O.S.U. Hospital East. He was a retired long established Tax Attorney in Columbus. He taught evening classes at Capital Law School. Prior to moving to Columbus he worked for the I.R.S. in Washington, D.C. He is a veteran of the U.S. Army and a Kentucky Colonel. Preceded in death by wife Marilyn "Dutch" Carpenter. Survived by sons, Errett L. "Fred" (Susan Furste) Carpenter, III of Boston, Mass. and James C. (Mary Jane) Carpenter of New Albany; daughters, Sue A. Carpenter of Columbus and Lisa K. (Mohammed Karoon) Carpenter of Columbus; grandchildren, Amy Beth Carpenter, Wendy Hope (Michael) Levine, Jodi Lynn (Ryan) O'Sullivan, Katy (Michael) Theune, Elizabeth Carpenter, Caroline Carpenter and Abigail Carpenter; great-granddaughter, Rachael Levine; sister, Mary Virginia Gilluly; nephew, John Gilluly; nieces, Sandra (Paul) Dagdigian and Marlene (Guy) Burleson. Memorial Service 11 a.m. Friday, March 2, 2001 at the SCHOEDINGER NORTHEAST CHAPEL, 1051 E. Johnstown Rd., Gahanna, where family will receive friends from 9 a.m. until service. CLARY Doris Maxine Clary, age 89, passed away February 27, 2001 at Columbus West Park. Preceded in death by father Lavodi Davidson, mother Garnet Foster Davidson, daughter Veda Mae Wolfe. Survived by daughters, Norma Marquardt of Worthington and Dorothy Ackers of Columbus; 12 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be conducted at Worthington Presbyterian Church on March 9, 2001 at 1:30 p.m. Rev. Phil Hazelton officiating. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Columbus West Park Vista-Care Hospice. Arrangements by O.R. WOODYARD CO., South High St. Chapel.

CORN C.E. "Ed" Corn, age 76, died February 26, 2001. Employed by Ashland Oil and Refining Co. and Ashland Chemical Co. for 37 years. Retired as Vice President, Human Resources from Ashland Chemical Co. Member and Elder of Liberty Presbyterian Church, Delaware, Oh. Veteran WW II Army Air Corps. Preceded in death by parents Rev. Clarence and Eva Corn of Ironton, Oh. Survived by wife of 57 years, Norma "Midge" Corn; sons, Tom (Judy) Corn of Kingwood, Tex., Ron (Peggy) Corn of Dublin, Bob (Kathy) Corn of Lawrenceville, Ga.; grandchildren, Patrick, Allison, Dustin and Kevin Corn; sister, Margaret (Henry) Kuivila of Glenmont, N.Y.; brother, Jim (Barbara) Corn of Annandale, Va. Memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, March 1, 2001 at Liberty Presbyterian Church, 7080 Olentangy River Rd., Delaware, Oh., where family will receive friends 1 hour prior to service. Dr. David Redding officiating. Graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, March 2, 2001 at Woodland Cemetery, Ironton. Rev. Odie Justice officiating. DEETH Anna Mildred Deeth, of Columbus, died Monday, February 26, 2001 at Riverside Methodist Hospital. Mrs. Deeth was born in New York City, N.Y. on February 7, 1914. She was a resident of First Community Village and a member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church. She is survived by her husband, Harold R. Deeth; son, John (Nancy) Deeth; granddaughter, Amy (Michael) Christie; grandson, Jeffrey Deeth; great-grandchildren, Kaitlin and Ryan Christie. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Friday, March 2, 2001 at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, 2151 Dorset Rd., Upper Arlington. The family will receive friends following the service at church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Community Village Sustaining Fund. DOWD Wanda Mary Dowd, age 76, passed away Sunday February 25, 2001 at home. A life-long resident of Columbus, she graduated from North High School, Class of 1942 and was a member of NHWAA. Wanda worked for the Federal Government for over 37 years retiring from the DCSC. She was preceded in death by her parents Vearn and Mary Dowd. She is survived by her sisters, Frances Dowd and Norma (William) Butterworth of Columbus and Verna (Russ) Street of Punta Gorda, Fla.; nieces, Nancy (Alva) Williams of Columbus and Peggy (Ron) Pinkerton of Canal Winchester. Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 1, 2001 at RUTHERFORD-CORBIN FUNERAL HOME, WORTHINGTON CHAPEL, 515 High St., Worthington, Oh., 614-885-4006. Family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial service will be held for the family at Glen Rest Memorial Estates. DUFFEY Roger L. Duffey, age 45, of Groveport, Oh., died on Monday, February 26, 2001 at The Ohio State University Hospital-East. Preceded in death by his father Harry J. Duffey, Jr. and his brother David Duffey. Survived by his mother, Violet Duffey; brother and sister-in-law, Roy, Sr. and Debbie Duffey; nephew, Cpl. Roy Duffey, Jr., U.S.M.C., MCB Quantico, Quantico, Va.; niece, Jacqueline N. Duffey; aunts, uncles, cousins, relatives and friends. Private family service. Arrangements by SCHOEDINGER EAST CHAPEL. EDMOND Lula Bessie Edmond, age 92, February 26, 2001 at OSU East Hospital. Retired employee of The Ohio State University Hospital. Lifetime member of St. Paul A.M.E. Church. Member of Stewardess Board #4 and member of Sunday School Class #31. Preceded in death by husband Isaac Edmond, parents John and Willa Mae Canty and sister Carolyn Hester. GROVE Thomas Eugene Grove, age 79, Monday, February 26, 2001 at home. WW II U.S. Navy Veteran. Retired from General Motors in 1986 as a Tool & Die Maker. Member of Local UAW #969 and Reynoldsburg Lodge #340 F&AM, Aladdin Shrine Temple. Preceded in death by parents Jacob and Mini (McClincy) Grove, son Thomas Grove, Jr., 3 brothers and 3 sisters. Survived by loving wife, Joy Ann Grove; children, Josh, Maria and Zack Burns, Vance (Chris) Grove, Hope (Chuck) Barker, Frankie (Art) Davenport, Norma (John) Kwasny, Ida (Bruce) Osborne, Jerry (Carijo) Osborne and Jack Burns; daughter-in-law, Betty Grove; 19 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren. GURVIS Henry Gurvis, former Racing commissioner, who was well known in racing circles, resided in Bal Harbour, Fla., Granville, Oh. in Licking Co. and Columbus, Oh., succumbed to Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma after a 2 years battle with the disease. In earlier years he was appointed Small Business Chairman under Governor James Rhodes and was President and owner of Crown Dielectric Industries, with offices all over the World. He was an Industrialist and Real Estate Developer who built the first Motel called the Mid City and Clarmont in Columbus, Oh. and other throughout the state and nation. He was a man of many identities, but his greatest love was that his family. He leaves behind his beloved wife, Marjorie Patricia Gurvis; beloved son, Anthony Nicholas Gurvis and Holly Gurvis; and daughter, Susan and husband, Ronald Rudolph; grandchildren, Alexander Rudolph, Adam Rudolph and Cara Kochensparger Rudolph, Hailey and Chelsea Gurvis. He was a member of Temple Israel Brotherhood, the Licking County Humane Society, a life member of the Licking County Art Museum, the American Red Cross, and a life member of the Winding Hollow, Mound Builders and William's Island Country Clubs. Funeral service to be held Thursday 1 p.m. at Temple Israel, 5419 E. Broad St. Interment to follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery. Shiva will be held at the Rudolph's residence. HAMLAR Maxine Eloise Harbour Hamlar "Mac", age 75, Sunday, February 25, 2001 at the Riverside Hospital. A student of Lucy Addison High School in Roanoke, Va. and attended Virginia State University. She was an active Socialite and Civic Supporter. Maxine was a member of The Moles, Girl Friends, Carrousels, Circle-lets and Ladies of Lambda Boule'. While in Roanoke, Va., Maxine co-founded The Altruists Club which trained young women for their debut in society. She was preceded in death by her brothers Curtis and Kyle Harbour, half-sisters Edna Griffin "Bea" and Lillian Roche' and half-brother Thomas Brown. Survived by husband, Dr. David Hamlar, Sr. "Duck"; children, Jocelyn (Leighton) Hamlar Toney, David (June) Hamlar, Jr. and Deidre Hamlar; grandchildren, Morgan and Sydney Clark, Devin, Jenna and Tai Hamlar; brother, Wendell (Claudia) Harbour; many other relatives and friends. Memorial Service 7 p.m. Thursday at the Chapel of C.D. WHITE & SON FUNERAL HOME, 1217 Mt. Vernon Ave. Rev. E.A. Parham, Officiant. HANNIGAN Jacqueline M. Hannigan, age 75, loving mother, grandmother and friend, Monday, February 26, 2001 in Palm Harbor, Fla. Formerly of Columbus and a longtime member of St. James the Less Parish. Retired from Bank One. Preceded in death by husband John H. Hannigan and son Michael J. Hannigan. Survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Erin and Byron Humphrey of Palm Harbor, Fla., Janet and Bruce Dunno of Columbus, Oh.; 5 grandchildren. U.S. Army Veteran, WW II, Civilian military contractor. Worked at Marion Depot. A member of St. Luke Lutheran Church, Gahanna, Marion Masonic Lodge #070, American Legion Post #888, Walnut Valley Boat Club, HAM Radio Operator. Survived by wife of 50 years, Mary Restar; son, Dan Hodges, Galena; former daughter-in-law, Jackie Randle, Sunbury; grandchildren, Andy, Amy and Alex; brother, Kenneth (Jean) Hodges, Marion; nieces and nephews.
