MARY UEBEL

Mary Ellen Uebel, 72, of Winchester, died Friday, Sept. 7, 2001, at her residence. She was born March 12, 1929 in Brown County, the daughter of the late John and Merrile (Rickey) Bailey. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2001, at the Bradford-Sullivan Funeral Home in Winchester. Burial will follow in the Winchester Cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Bradford-Sullivan Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Bradford-Sullivan Funeral Home, PO Box 187, Winchester, Ohio 45697.

MARCUS WADE

Marcus Lafayette Wade, commonly known as Della Wade, died of pneumonia at the home of his son, Edmund Randolph Wade, at Fisher, IL., December 27, 1906, aged 88 years. He was the son of Zephaniah and Mary Wade who came to this county from Maryland at an early day and established their home near Vineyard Hill in Monroe Township. There were 15 children born to these parents, the deceased being the youngest. He was united in marriage to Caroline Lawson, December 12, 1845, and to them five children were born: Edmund Wade of Fisher, IL, Mrs James Kennedy, Cherry Fork, Mrs Reason Naylor, West Union, and Sophronia Bell, dying at the age of 16 years. The wife and mother died February 5, 1890, since which time the aged gentleman has made his home with his children. For 60 years he was a devoted member of the U. B. Church. His body was returned to the home of his daughter, Mrs. Reason B. Naylor, of West Union, and the funeral was held from the Moore's Run U. B. Church, conducted by the pastor, Rev. J. A. Storer.

BETTY WALLACE

Betty Lucille Wallace, daughter of William A. and Agnes L. (Brooks) Easter, was born on December 28, 1938, and departed this life on March 4, 1999. She attended West Union School and for 18 years was employed part-time for Bradford-Sullivan Funeral Home. Betty was an active member of the United Methoodist Church in Winchester, where she enjoyed in helping where there was need. She leaves to mourn her passing her husband, Robert F. Wallace, whom she married December 14, 1958. Also a duaghter, Jennifer, at home; a sister, Joan Stevens of Trenton, Ohio; a brother, Fred, and her mother, Agnes Easter, both of West Union. Betty was preceded in death by a son, Robert Michael, and her father, William Easter. Betty will be missed not only by her family, but also countless friends and relatives. She never took her Christian life lightly, but always was ready to give all she could to help in any way to comfort those in need. Our Lord seen it best to call her home to her reward for a grateful Christian life, and to receive the blessings she so deserved. We have the promise of our Lord to be with her again, and enjoy also our eternity with a grateful Saviour. The Wallace family wishes to thank each and all, and especially our church for all your prayers and deeds to us at this time of loss.

MABLE WALLACE

Mable C. Wallace, 96, of West Union, formerly of Locust Grove community, passed away Friday, February 18, at University Hospital in Cincinnati. She was born April 22, 1897, near Peebles, the daughter of Alfred and Emma Sergi Brooks. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford Wallace, in 1977. Survivors include a daughter, Alice Rosenfelt of West Union; four granchildren, eleven great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Monday at the Wallace-Thompson Funeral Home in Peebles. Burial in the Locust Grove Cemetery, Rev. Elford Hoff and Robert Wallace officiating.

MARION WAMSLEY

Marion E. Wamsley, 81, of Blue Creek, died Wednesday, October 12, at the Chestnut Ridge Care Center in West Union. She was born March 10, 1913, at Plattsburg, New York, the daughter of the late John and Bessie Pelkey Cross. Marion was a member of the Moore's Chapel Church at Blue Creek. She was preceded in death by her husband, Fredrick E. Wamsley, in 1988. Survivors include one son, John E. Wamsley of Bradenton, Florida; two daughters, Karen Hayslip of Blue Creek and Nedra Hobbs of Bradenton, Florida; 11 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held Sunday, October 16, at the Ellis-Beam Funeral Home in West Union, Harold Bryant officiating. Burial followed in the Moore's Chapel Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Hospice of Hope in Maysville, Kentucky.

RUTH WAMSLEY

Ruth M. Wamsley, 91, of St. Rt. 348, Otway, died Saturday morning at her residence. She was born July 21, 1908, in Blue Creek OH, to the late Paul and Annie Copas Teagarden. She was preceded in death on October 24, 1982 by her husband, Oakley C. Wamsley, whom she married on May 24, 1924. She was also preceded in death by two sons, Clifton and George Wamsley, Sr., and a daughter-in-law, Patricia Wamsley. Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Russell and Emma Jean Wamsley, Loren and Anita Wamsley, both of Otway; two daughters-in-law, Betty Wamsley of Otway, Alberta Wamsley of Dayton; one brother, Ralph Teagarden of Dayton; three sisters, Anna Lou Ellis of Higginsport, OH, Ruby Black of Springfield, Maxine Storks of Dayton; 19 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren. She was retired from the Clean Towel Co., a homemaker and a member of the Christian Union Church. Funeral services were held Sept. 14 at the Botkin Funeral Home in Otway with Rev. Gary R. Brown officiating. Burial will follow in the Moore's Chapel Cemetery.

CLARENCE WASHBURN

Clarence Lyle Washburn, 90, of Hillsboro, passed away Wednesday, January 3. He was born February 13, 1905, the son of the late Lula Belle and William T. Washburn. He graduated from Seaman High School in 1925. Mr. Washburn was the owner and operator of two tire shops, one in Winchester and one in Sardina. He also was owner and operator of a Caramel Corn Shop in Winchester. He was a sales representatives for many big fertilizer companies and after retirement he became a realtor with several agents in Highland County. He was a member of the Highland Lodge 38 F&AM, 50-year member of the Scottish Rite Valley of Cincinnati and a member of the Hillsboro First United Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife, Clarice, whom he married in 1930 and together they shared over 65 years of marriage; a sister, Mary Newman of Seaman, a niece, Carla Huber of Seaman; several other nieces and nephews, and a special great-nephew, Ronald Lee Cross and wife Penny, who is caring for his wife, Clarice. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 10, at the Hope Miller-Thompson Funeral Home in Hillsboro, with Pastor James Cattran officiating. Burial will be in the Locust Grove Cemetery, with military graveside services by the Highland County Honor Guard.

GEORGE WEBB

EATON RETIRED FARMER IS FOUND DEAD IN BED - George Merle Webb, 73, retired faarmer of Eaton, was found dead in bed at 5:30 o'clock yesterday morning by his son-in-law, E.B. Hepple, with whom he lived. Mr. Webb had been in apparently good health Wednesday. Death was due to cerebral apoplexy. Surviving are four sons, Thomas A. of Agusta, Kan.; James and Ova, of Florence, Kan.; and George Webb, of Seaman, Ohio; four daughters, Mrs. E.B. Hepple, Mrs. John Smith (Effie), Mrs. Harvey Rose, and Mrs. Charles Ketterrman (Elsie), all of Eaton; and one brother, Allen Webb, of West Union, OH. No funeral arrangements have been made.

GEORGE WHITLEY

Funeral service for George Whitley, 35, Route 1, Peebles, was to be help at 2 pm Monday at Pine Top Church under direction of the Smith Funeral Home, Bainbridge. The Rev. Howard Fannon was to officiate and burial was to follow in Cynthiana Cemetery. Pallbears were James Vandemark, Tom Johnson, Elijah Scaff, Gary Whitley, Donnie Cross, and Rick Perkins. Mr. Whitley, a member of the Pine Top Church, died unexpectedly Friday evening at his home. A native Pike Countian, he was born Feb. 13, 1941, to Raymond and Anna Blanch Dalton Whitley. On March 19, 1960, he was married to the former Rose Riddle, who survives. Also surviving are his father, Route 2, Bainbridge; a son, George Michael; and a daughter, Sandra Lynn, at home; six sisters, Mrs. Nellie Seely, Toledo; Mrs Thelma May, West Union; Mrs. Beulah Keaton, Xenia; Mrs. Mary Barber, Lyndon; and Mrs. Beatrice Keaton and Mrs. Ruth Cross, both of Bainbridge; and two brothers, Raymond Jr and John Willie, Bainbridge. He was preceeded in death by his mother, Anna, and a brother, Edward.

ERMALINE WILSON

Ermaline Wilson, 81, of Sardinia, died Thursday, Nov. 11, 1909, at Highland District Hospital in Hillsboro. She was born Nov. 28, 1917, in Adams County, the daughter of the late William H. and Anna F. (Yankie) Shoemaker. Survivors include three sons and two daughters-in-law, David and Wilma Wilson of Mowrystown, Roger and Deanna Wilson and Danny Wilson, all of Sardinia; two daughters and one son-in-law, Phyllis Wilson of Sardinia and Susan and Lloyd Whisman of Kingman, Ariz.; five grandchildren, four step-grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd Wilson, in 1986, and a sister, Edna Shumaker. Funeral services were held Monday, Nov. 15, at the Wylie-Thompson Funeral Home in Sinking Spring, with the Rev. Charles Gray officiating. Burial followed in the Straight Creek Cemetery. Visitation was held Sunday, Nov. 14, at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Sardinia Life Squad.

PATTON WILSON

Patton Wilson died suddenly at his home, while entertaining friends, on Feb. 18, 1895. He was a veteran blacksmith. He was born in Adams County, Jul 25, 1825, and married Susanna S. Newman Jun 24, 1845. Of twelve children born, nine, and his wife, survive. He went to Selma in 1857 where worked at this trade until about 10 yr. ago when he moved to Lexington, ILL, where he continued to work at his trade until his death. Funeral services at the M. E. Church Wed. and burial in Lexington, ILL.

BETTY WINDLE

Betty Windle, 76, of South Vienna, Ohio, died on June 19, 2004, at Community Hospital. She was born in Adams County, Ohio, March 25 1928, the daughter of Charles and Agnes Shoemaker. Betty enjoyed singing gospel music with her husband on several radio stations and nursing homes. She taught Sunday school for 35 years and attended Catawba Freewill Baptist Church. Betty was a loving, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend who will be greatly missd by many. Survivors include her husband of 58 years, Junior Windle; children, Barb (James) MCullough of South Vienna, Roger (Terry) Windle of Springfiled, Ronnie (Charlene) Windle, Brenda (Blane) Rix of South Vienna and Rick (Stephanie) Windle of Reddington Shore, Fla., eleven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; one sister, Laura (John) Free of Otway, Ohio; several nieces, nephews and many special frinds. She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, three sisters and one great-granddaughter, Abigail. Vistation was Tuesday, June 22, 2004, from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m at the Ingling Williams Funeral Home, South Charleson, Ohio, with funeral services to be held there Wednesday, June 23, 2004 at 11:00 a.m., with Pastors Sturgil McCarty, John Long and Rev. Wiley Perkins officiating. Burial will be in South Vienna Cemetery. A gathering will be held at Catawba Freewill Baptist Church afterwards.
