Durbin Swick
VAN WERT - Durbin D. Swick, 87, Van Wert, died at 4:55 p.m. Saturday at VanCrest Health Care Center, Van Wert.
He was born July 17, 1913, in Van Wert County, the son of Don and Flossie (Ries) Swick. In 1936, he married Lois Shell, who died in January. He was a retired farmer, and maintenance engineer at Van Wert County Hospital for 22 years. He had been a member of Ridge and Kingsley United Methodist churches, Van Wert, where he served as Sunday School teacher and superintendent and was a member of First United Methodist Church, Van Wert, and Hunt Sunday School Class. He was a director and member of Van Wert County Farm Bureau, Men's Garden Club and a former member of Van Wert County Board of Elections.
Surviving are a son, Larry, Lancaster; a daughter, Mrs. Bill (Sandra) Smallwood, Fredericksburg, Texas; and four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren
Also preceding him in death were a brother, Don; and a sister, Ida Mae Pritchard.
Memorial services will be held at a later date. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery, Van Wert. There is no visitation. Handling arrangements is Cowan & Son Funeral Home, Van Wert.
Preferred memorials are to a charity of the donor's choice.

Tessie Gibson
ANTWERP - Tessie F. Gibson, 62, Antwerp, died at 7:32 a.m. Tuesday at Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne.
She was born Jan. 10, 1938, in Pikeville, Ky., the daughter of Landon and Rebecca (Adams) Holt. In 1954, she married Paul Gibson, who survives. She was a homemaker.
Also surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Rick (Oleeta) Wheeler of Worstville and Marla Hershberger, Antwerp; two sons, Mickey Holt of Waterloo, Ind., and Robert Gibson, Edgerton; two brothers, Milo and Russell Holt, both of Little Rock, Ark.; three sisters, Arlene Ratliff of Pikeville, Ky., Jean Chupek of Huntington Beach, Calif., and Marie Goudy, Antwerp; and 15 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were her parents and two brothers, Landon Holt Jr. and Frank Holt.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Edgerton Westleyan Church, Edgerton. Burial will be in Wiltsie Cemetery, Harrison Township, Paulding County. Visitation is from 2:30-9 p.m. today and from 10 a.m. until time of services Friday at the church. Handling arrangements was Den Herder Funeral Home, Paulding.
Preferred memorials are to Paulding County Heart Fund.

Marvel Stocking
TOLEDO - Former Defiance resident Marvel Ruth (Mealey) Stocking, 79, Toledo, died Tuesday at Toledo Hospital.
She was born Jan. 31, 1921, in Cuyahoga Falls, the daughter of Grant and Lydia (Lutz) Mealey Sr. She married Milan Stocking, who preceding her in death. She was a government quality control inspector at Zeller Corp.
Surviving are two sons, Milan of Defiance and David, Fort Wayne; two daughters, Mrs. Douglas (Scheherazade) vanHartesveldt of Grand Rapids, Mich. and Starla, Toledo; a sister, Eunice Mealey; and eight grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
Also preceding her in death was a brother, Grant Mealey Jr., and two sisters, Gail Wyatt and Vadetta Mealey.
Services will be held at a later date. There will be no visitation. Handling arrangements is Urbanski Funeral Home, Toledo.

Ronald Anderson
HAMILTON TOWNSHIP, N.J. - Word was received of the Aug. 25 death of former Defiance resident Ronald Eugene Anderson, 49, Hamilton Township, died in Tampa, Fla.
He was born Feb. 20, 1951, in Trenton, N.J., the son of Daniel and Lenora (Gibbs) Anderson Sr. A graduate of Trenton High School, he served in the U.S. Air Force. He worked at General Motors Corp., Ewing, N.J., relocating to GM Powertrain, Defiance, before retiring in 1997. He attended St. Phillips Baptist Church, Hamilton Township and New Beginnings Outreach Center, Defiance.
Surviving are his mother and stepfather, Lenora and Melvin Hadley, Hamilton, N.J.; two brothers, Daniel Jr. of Mill Valley, Calif., and Marvin Sr., Willingboro, N.J.; and two sisters, Mrs. Dennis (Valerie) Brown Sr. of Willingboro and Stacey Marquett Thinn, Tampa.
Services were held Sept. 2 at First Baptist Church of Pennington, with Rev. Wayne Griffith officiating. Burial was in Greenwood Cemetery, Hamilton Township. Handling arrangements was Hughes Funeral Home, Trenton.

Margaret Davis
BRYAN - Margaret (Peggy) L. Davis, 72, Bryan, died Wednesday at Medical College of Ohio, Toledo.
She was born April 13, 1923, in Huntington, Ind., the daughter of Alfred and Mary (Wall) Myers. In 1944, she married John Davis, who survives. She was a self-employed seamstress for more than 20 years. She was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church.
Also surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Tom (Jan) Bernard of Aeworth, Ga., and Mrs. Steve (Kathy) Williams, Fenton, Mich.; a brother, Richard Myers, Bryan; and four grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were two brothers, Charles and Frank Myers; and a sister, Myrna Kash.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Rice Funeral Home, Bryan. Visitation is from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday, with a Rosary service at 8 p.m.
Preferred memorials are to Cartie's Kids, Cleveland.

Services for Thelma M. Helmke were held Wednesday at St. Peter Lutheran Church, Florida, with Rev. Douglas Corniels officiating. Music was provided by Becky Buchhop, Sharlene Bunke and Lavina Boesling. Burial was in Independence Cemetery. Pallbearers were Bert Weddelman, Jim Helmke, Jerry Liska, Mike Meyer, Dave Aeschliman and Philip Young. Mast-Mock-Hoffman Funeral Home handled arrangements.

Services for Jan R. Patten were held Wednesday at Mast-Mock-Hoffman Funeral Home, with Revs. Todd Anderson and Suzanne Allen officiating. Burial was in Riverside Cemetery. Pallbearers were Steve Ruyle, Dave Grant, Sam Switzer, Doug Daoust, John Weaner and Larry Otto. Honorary pallbearers were Allen Hornish, Ed Yoder, Ed Dierks, Hall Dement, Dave Westrick and Roy Baker.

Arleen Bressler
NAPOLEON - Arleen R. Bressler, 58, Napoleon, died Wednesday at Medical College of Ohio, Toledo.
She was born Nov. 7, 1941, in Napoleon, the daughter of William and Olga (Miller) Kruse. In 1960, she married Glenn Bressler, who died in 1990. She was a cook for Napoleon City Schools and a night manager at Ralph's Country Pride, Holgate. She was a member of Emaunel Lutheran Church.
Surviving are her mother, Napoleon; four daughters, Mrs. Terry (Cathy) Hutchinson of Goddard, Kan., Mrs. Ronald (Patricia) Ledyard and Mrs. Tony (Lisa) Buckmaster, both of Napoleon and Mrs. Craig (Peggy) Franz, Holgate; three brothers, William Kruse Jr. of Napoleon, Lester Kruse of Cecil and Ronald Kruse, Hamler; five sisters, Margaret Busch, Mrs. Howard (Norma) Behrman, Donna Kruse and Mrs. Robert (Shirley) Walker, all of Napoleon, and Mrs. William (Nancy) Behnfeldt, Defiance; and seven grandchildren and five stepgrandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the church, with Revs. James Updegraff and Joy Miller officiating. Burial will be in Riverview Memory Gardens, Defiance. Visitation is from 2-9 p.m. today at Snyder-Wesche Funeral Home, Napoleon and an hour prior to services at the church Saturday.
Preferred memorials are to the church, American Cancer Society or Hope Services.
