Services for Catherine C. Froelich were held Monday at Riverside Cemetery with Deacon Don Meyer officiating. Burial was in Riverside Cemetery. Lawson-Roessner Funeral Home handled arrangements.

Esther Friend
Services for Esther Friend were held Monday in North Mount Zion Church with Rev. Michael Dyck officiating. Burial was in North Mount Zion Cemetery. Pallbearers were David and Robert Friend, Richard Healy, Jaye Young, David Wagner and Mark McDougle. Handling arrangements was Mast-Mock-Hoffman Funeral Home.

Norman Weaver
BRYAN - Norman E. Weaver, 71, Bryan, died Thursday morning in Community Hospitals of Williams County-Bryan.
He was born Nov. 24, 1929, in Bryan, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Weaver. In 1953, he married Frieda Mast, who survives. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict and an engineer for Williams County for more than 20 years, prior to his retirement. He was a member of Bryan VFW Post 2489 and Melbern United Methodist Church.
Also surviving are a son, Michael; and four grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were his parents; a son, Jerry; and three brothers and a sister.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Oberlin-Ford Funeral Home, Bryan. Burial will be in Brown Cemetery with military rites conducted by Bryan VFW Post 2489. Visitation will be after 11 a.m. Saturday.
Preferred memorials are to a charity of the donor's choice.

Santos Melchor Sr.
HAMLER - Santos A. Melchor Sr., 75, Hamler, died at 3:36 p.m. Wednesday in Medical College of Ohio Hospital, Toledo.
He was born Nov. 1, 1925, in Waelder, Texas, the son of Eliseo and Josefa (Arguello) Melchor. In 1948, he married Feliciana Tovar, who survives. He worked at GM Powertrain, Defiance, for 43 years, retiring in 1987, was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church, Hamler, and a former member of the church council. He was a member of Defiance's VFW Post 3360 and Warren L. McIntyre American Legion Post 262 in Hamler. He was also a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in Co. F 182nd Infantry Regiment, earning the Purple Heart, Asiatic Pacific Theater Medal and Victory Medal.
Also surviving are seven sons, Frank of Las Vegas, Alexander and Felix, both of Toledo, Ralph of Leipsic, Rudy and Robert, both of Columbus, and Santos Jr., Yuma, Ariz.; two daughters, Rachel Good of Hamler and Mrs. Dino (Lupe) Rovito, Pittsburgh; two brothers, Crescencio of Waelder and Braulio, San Antonio, Texas; a sister, Mrs. Aurelio (Esperanza) Esparza, Hamler; and 17 grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were his parents; and a son, Lupito.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday in the church with Rev. Robert Kill officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery with military rites accorded by Defiance VFW Post 3360. Visitation is from 7-9 p.m. Saturday and from 2-9 p.m. Sunday at Rodenberger Funeral Home, Deshler, with a rosary service at 8:30 p.m. Sunday.
Preferred memorials are to the church or a charity of the donor's choice.

NAPOLEON - Herbert Jay Vance, 64, Napoleon, died Thursday afternoon in his home. Arrangements are pending at Walker Mortuary, Napoleon.

Gale Salsbury
NAPOLEON - Gale Emerson Salsbury, 95, Napoleon, died Thursday morning at Lutheran Home, Napoleon.
He was born Dec. 2, 1905, in Williams County, the son of Herbert and Effie (Peyton) Salsbury. In 1929, he married Geneva Wasnich, who survives. He was a farmer and worked for Farm Bureau Co-op until his retirement. He worked at Lougheed Furniture Store, West Unity, and was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Napoleon and Gideons International. He volunteered at Henry County Hospital and was a former member of Pulaski Methodist Church and Faith Methodist Church, Bryan, where he taught Sunday school.
Also surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Marvin (Marilyn) Elling, Napoleon; three sons, Herbert of Maumee, Larry of Brookfield, Wis., and David, Norcross, Ga.; three sisters, Helen Wheeler and Mrs. Ralph (Jean) Ely, both of Bryan, and Wanda Lougheed, Montpelier; and nine grandchildren, two stepgrandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death was a brother, Cleland.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in the church with Revs. Norm Koy and Peter Marcis officiating. Burial will be in Shiffler Cemetery, Pulaski. Visitation is from 2-6 p.m. Sunday in Snyder-Wesche Funeral Home, Napoleon, and one hour prior to services Monday at the church.
Preferred memorials are to Lutheran Home, Gideons International, American Cancer Society or the church's Altar Guild.

Carl Spencer
MAUMEE - Former Defiance area resident Carl Spencer, 79, Maumee, died Tuesday in St. Luke's Hospital, Toledo.
He was born Jan. 15, 1921, in Toledo, the son of Carl and Matilda Spencer. He married Elizabeth Schmitt, who survives He was a U.S. Navy veteran serving in World War II and a branch manger for Detroit Ball Bearing for 45 years, retiring in 1985. He was past president of Defiance Area Chamber of Commerce, a former member of Kettenring Country Club, a life member of Sertoma and a member of Maumee Elks Lodge 1850.
Also surviving are four sons, Ronald, Terry, Pete and Charlie; a daughter, Mrs. Jim (Cindy) Fortlage, Toledo; two sisters, Rita Heath and Helen Gill; and 15 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were a son, Gerald; and a brother, George.
Services will be at 7:30 p.m. Monday in Coyle Funeral Home, Toledo, with Rev. Robert Wilhelm officiating. Visitation will be after 3 p.m. Monday.
Preferred memorials are to Mobile Meals, Toledo.

Martin Dysert
WAYNESVILLE, N.C. - Word has been received of the Nov. 25 death of former Defiance resident Martin C. Dysert, 89, Waynesville, in Haywood Regional Medical Center, Waynesville.
He was born March 12, 1911, in Ohio City, the son of Ralph and Hazel Dysert. He married Odetta Johnson, who survives. He was a former minor league player for the Boston Red Sox and a supervisor for Great Atlantic and Pacific Tea Co., Toledo, for 40 years. He was a realtor at Strait Realty, Defiance, and a member of Lone Palm Golf Club, Sixth Man Club of Florida Southern College, area Shrine and Masonic lodges and First Methodist Church, Lakeland, Fla.
Also surviving are two daughters, Val Hattery of Winter Haven, Fla., and Sandra Riley, Van Wert; and two grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
Services will be held Jan. 6 at First United Methodist Church, Lakeland, and Jan. 13 at First Presbyterian Church, Defiance. Handling arrangements is Asheville Mortuary Service, Asheville.
Preferred memorials are to Asbury Theological Seminary, Martin C. Dysert Memorial Scholarship, 8401 Valencia College Lane, Orlando, Fla. 32825.

James Rich
WAUSEON - James H. Rich, 53, Wauseon, died Wednesday in his home after an extended illness.
He was born Sept. 2, 1947, in Elk Valley, Tenn., the son of Harry and Margaret (Terry) Rich. In 1973, he married Geraldine Ellison, who survives. Prior to his retirement, he worked at Fulton Industries, Wauseon, for 28 years.
Also surviving are three sons, James, Michael and Gary, all of Wauseon; a brother, Harry, Elk Valley; and four grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were his father; and mother and stepfather, Margaret and Ernest Baird.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Martin-Wilson Funeral Home, La Follette, Tenn., with Rev. David Morgan officiating. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery, Elk Valley. Visitation is from 2-6 p.m. today in Edgar-Grisier Funeral Home, Wauseon, and from 6-8 p.m. Sunday in Martin-Wilson Funeral Home.

Benjamin Gehle
WAUSEON - Benjamin Louis Bernard Gehle, 18, Wauseon, died Wednesday at Medical College of Ohio Hospital, Toledo, from injuries sustained in a Henry County automobile accident on Tuesday.
He was born Dec. 16, 1981, in Sidney, the son of Lloyd and Denise (Davidson) Gehle. He was a senior at Wauseon High School and a member of DECA. He worked at Carter Lumber, Defiance, and was a member of St. Caspar Catholic Church, Wauseon.
Surviving are his parents, Wauseon; a sister, Gretchen, Wauseon; grandparents, Gertrude Gehle of Piqua and Daniel and Dorothy Davidson, Sidney; and a great-grandmother, Blanche Grillot, Celina.
Preceding him in death was a grandfather, Louis Gehle.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in the church with Rev. Robert Holden officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation is from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday in Edgar-Grisier Funeral Home, Wauseon.
Preferred memorials are to the church's building fund.
