NORA BURNS
Nora E. Burns, 84, of Peebles, died Tuesday, June 17, at the University Hospital in Cincinnati. She was born at Tranquility in Adams County on May 11, 1913, the daughter of Carey and Cora (Hilterbran) Freeze. She was a member of the Frog Hollow Church. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Ray Burns in 1981. She is survived by eight sons, Floyd Burns of Applegrove, West Virginia, Russell Burns of Texas, Ralph Burns of Peebles, Clarence Burns of Peebles, Larry Burns of Peebles, Roger Burns of Marion, Marvin Burns of Peebles and Jerry Burns of Peebles; seven daughters, Mabel Thompson of Georgia, Mary Short of Blue Creek, Pearline Williams of Portsmouth, Ruth Burns of Lucasville, Violet Lynch of Texas, Wanda Warren of Dayton, and Sharon Chaney of Hillsboro; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held on Friday, June 20, at the Locust Grove Gymnasium in Locust Grove with John Niswanda and Dennis Graham co-officiating. Burial followed in the Locust Grove Cemetery. The Brooke-Lafferty, Wallace-Thompson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
ANNA CARROLL
Anna Lee Carroll, 93, of Seaman died Friday, March 4, at the Ohio Valley Manor Convalescent Center. Mrs. Carroll was a member of the Seaman Presbyterian Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, George Carroll. Surviving are four sisters-in-law, Lena Carroll Lewis, Jessie McGovney Carroll Statton and Wynona Harris Carroll, of Dayton, Alma Hill Carroll of Seaman; and several nieces and nephews. Services were held Monday, March 7, at the Lewis-Sullivan Funeral Home in Seaman, Rev. Robert Holmes officiating. Burial was in the Cherry Fork Cemetery.
SARAH CARTER
Mrs Sarah Jane Carter, 41, wife of James A. Carter, 2033 Fifth street, died at 11:18 p. m. Sunday at her home after an illness of the last five weeks. She was born in Adams county, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Reason Graham. Surviving are her husband and these children by a previous marriage: Leroy Bradley, Mrs. Dorothy Lemonds, Misses Hazel and Garnet Bradley at home, Mrs. Ruth Lyles, 420 Court street and Mrs. Katherine Gifford, 708 Elm street. She also leaves a stepson, Billy Carter, at home. Also are surviving are these brothers and sisters; Charles and Ross Graham of Peebles, Floyd and Ruben Graham, Mrs Nellie Hackworth of Portsmouth and Mrs. Nettie Campbell of Rarden. Funeral services will be held at 10 a. m. Wednesday at Pilgrim Holiness church on Third street, with Rev. Whitmore officiating. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, under the direction of Emrick. The body is at the residence.

ALLAN CASE
Allan Wayne Case, 43, of Kirker Road, Otway, died Tuesday, April 6, 1999, from injuries sustained in an auto accident on Rt. 73 in Adams County. He was born on Oct 5, 1955, in Columbus OH, and is the son of Myrtle Faye Jackson Case of Columbus and the late Clyde Case. Surviving are one son, Shawn Allan Case of Columbus, one daughter, Shanda Case of Columbus; two brothers; Davey Case and Kenny Case, both of Columbus. Graveside services were held at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 10, 1999 in the Case-Nelson and Johnson Cemetery on Kirker Road, Otway. Arrangements under the direction of the Botkin Funeral Home in Otway.
JOHN CASE
John M. Case, 79, of Cedar Mills, died Saturday, March 2, 2002, at the Adams County Hospital in West Union. He was born in Harold, Ky., on March 10, 1922, the son of the late Morgan and Autumn Case. Survivors include one daughter, Brenda Robinson of Otway; six sons, Jim Case of Blue Creek; Edgar Case, Doug Case, John Junior Case, Jeff Case, and Roy Case, all of Peebles; one brother, Hershel Case of New London; 26 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. Services were held Tuesday, March 5 at the Beam Funeral Home in West Union. Burial followed in Case Cemetery.
ELMER CHENOWETH
Elmer C. Chenoweth, 83, of Hillsboro, died Tuesday, Jan. 14, 1997, at a Hillsboro hospital. Born March 17, 1914, in Adams County, a son of the late Ernest and Bessie (Freeze) Chenoweth, he was a retired well driller. Surviving are his wife, Myrtle Carter Chenoweth; three stepsons, Jack Heffner of Piketon, Isaac Heffner of Beaver and Ed Heffner of Hillboro; five stepdaughters, Betty Christian of Mississippi; Becky Blair of Beaver, Beauty Travis of Lucasville, Betsy Thompson of Piketon and Bettina Nichols of Lucasville; two sisters, Lucille Parker of Hillsboro and Vergie Kerns of Latham; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Brooke-Lafferty-Wallace and Thompson in Peebles, with Donald Lewis officiating, and interment in Locust Grove Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday.
MABEL CHENOWETH
Mabel Stout Chenoweth, 98, of Peebles, died Friday, Feb. 21, 2003, at the Adams County Hospital. She was born in Highland County on Jan. 2, 1905, the daughter of the late David and Louise (Beuchler) Stout. She was a 66-year member of the Peebles United Methodist Church and had taught school in the Peebles School System for many years. She was a member of the Adams County Retired Teachers Association, charter member of the Adams County Senor Citizens, receiving the Outstanding Senior Citizen in 1976 and was a member of the Peebles Chapter Order Eastern Star 396. Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Joan and Paul Shoemaker of Peebles; one daughter-in-law, Susan Chenoweth of Peebles; six grandchildren, Pat, Dan, Mike, Lynne, Karen and Lori; and 14 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Chenoweth, who died in 1960; one son, Clifton Chenoweth in 1997; one daughter, June Houlk, who died in 1999; five brothers, John Stout, Earl Stout, Raymond Stout and Mike Stout; and one sister, Dorothy Mueller. Services were held Monday, Feb.24, at the Wallace-Thompson Funeral Home in Peebles with Steven Zinser officiating. Burial followed in the Locust Grove Cemetery.
BIRDIE CLIFFORD
Birdie F Clifford, 66, of Lynx, Ohio, died Sunday, February 29, 2004, at her residence. She was born on April 29, 1937, the daughter of the late Dewey Charles and Emma Charlotte (Taylor) Grooms in Adams County. She was a member of the Bethany Ridge Church. She is survived by her husband, Leroy Clifford, of Lynx; three daughters, Judy Heisler, Janet Whaley, and Linda Hayslip of Lynx; three sons, Victor and Roy Clifford of Lynx and David Clifford of West Union; one brother, Carl Grooms of West Union; three sisters, Ellen Clifford and Virgina Kidders of West Union and Ruby Shreffler of Decatur; 16 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held Friday, March 5, at the Beam Funeral Home with Rev. Tim Case officiating. Burial followed at the East Liberty Cemetery.
