William P. Wyatt Sr. 08/06/2003
William P. Wyatt Sr., age 57, of Co. Rd. 169, Cardington, died Wednesday August 6, 2003. He was born on May, 15 1946 in Paintsville, KY to the late Clarence T. and Lettie “Virginia”. ( Wells ) Wyatt.
Throughout his lifetime William earned his living as a self employed carpenter.
He is survived by 2 daughters; Patricia Hughes of Cardington and Stacy Collins of FL; 3 sons William and Michael Wyatt both of Bellville and Chad Wyatt of FL; 1 brother; Clarence Wyatt Sr. of Mansfield; 2 sisters Anita Meadows of Mt Gilead and Carol Dillsaver of Caledonia; 16 grandchildren and 5 step-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents William was preceded in death by 1 grandson Daniel Hughes.
Visitation will be held on Saturday August 9 from 5-8PM at Gompf Funeral Home in Cardington with burial at Glendale Cemetery.
Olive Walker 08/06/2003
Olive Walker, age 84, of Township Road 21, Marengo, died early Wednesday morning, August 6, 2003 at James Cancer Center in Columbus. She was born April 17, 1919 in Kimasi, British East Africa to the late Oren H. and Margaret A. ( Frazer) Scouten.
Olive attended Blue Mountain College in Tennessee and Louisiana State University majoring in music. She was a lifelong homemaker and was involved with the local schools, Republican Party, Prison Fellowship, Bible Literature International, African Inland Mission International and Missionary Kids Ministry.
On July 1, 1939, in New Orleans, Louisiana she was married to Karl H. Walker and he preceded her in death on January 7, 1997.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Margaret and David Briggs of Marengo and by a grandson and his wife, David Michael and Jody Briggs also of Marengo.
In addition to her parents and husband, Olive was also preceded in death by a son, Karl Michael Walker and a brother, Arthur Scouten.
A graveside service with family and close friends was observed on August 8, 2003, with Reverend Robert Riggs officiating. Burial was in the Marengo Cemetery.

Walter B. Mailey 08/04/2003
Walter B. Mailey, age 71, of West Main Street, Cardington, died Monday morning, August 4, 2003, at Bennington Glen Nursing Facility. He was born September 21, 1931, in Cardington to the late George L. Mailey and Carrie E. (Mathews) Mailey Ullom.
Walter was retired from the Salvation Army in Columbus where he had worked for twenty years as a chef.
Survivors include a daughter, Valarie Tyson of Circleville; brothers, Jim Ullom of Cardington and Floyd “Beanie” Mailey of Marengo; a sister, Jane Lingrel of Cardington; two grandchildren, one great-grandchild and a host of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents Walter was preceded in death by a sister Elizabeth Meadows.
Friends may call at Gompf Funeral Home in Cardington Wed. 5-8PM where the funeral service will be held Thurs. at 11AM. Major Dennis Gensler will officiate and burial will follow in Glendale Union Cemetery in Cardington.

Richard L. Petry 08/01/2003
Richard L. Petry, age 77, of South Marion Street, Cardington, was called home to be with the Lord Friday evening Aug. 1, 2003 at his residence. He was born June 25, 1926 in Comfort, West Virginia to the late Peter and Annie (Estep) Petry.
Richard served as a signalman in the United States Navy, during WWII, from December 1943 to April 1946. He worked 28 years for Ashland Oil as an Oil Field Pumper, was a member of Jenkins-Vaughan American Legion Post 97 and of the Cardington Church of the Nazarene.
He was preceded in death Oct. 3, 1982, by his first wife, Louise (Massey) Petry whom he married in Lebanon, VA on March 18, 1948. Also preceding him in death on June 29, 1983 was his second wife, Freda (Jerome) Petry, whom he married May 14, 1983.
Survivors include his wife, Betty (Shears) Petry, whom he married November 19, 1988; 3 sons and wives, Richard and Phyllis Petry, Jr. of Cardington, Fred and Vicki Petry of Richmond, IN and Randy and Tina Petry of Prestonsburg, KY; 3 daughters and their husbands, Brenda and Mark Grau of Marion, Dianne Young of Cardington, and Melissa and Glenn Pritchard of South Point, OH; a step-daughter and her husband, Danielle and Bill Stooksbury of Centerburg and a stepson, Wayne Shears of Mt. Gilead; 16 grandchildren, Jeremy and Sarah Grau, Leeanna and Richard Petry III, Caralee (Jamie) Murphy, Ashley and Erin Petry, Drew, Caleb and Katy Petry, Shane (Mandy) and Kirbie (Mindy) Young, Sylvia Tucker, Nathan, Anna Mae and Brandie Pritchard; and great-granddaughters, Kira Grace and Marlo Lynn Young.
In addition to his parents and first two wives, Richard was preceded in death by 5 brothers, Henry, Clarence, Roy, Donald and Charles Petry; and 2 sisters, Bessie Payne and Marie Linville.
Friends may call at Gompf Funeral Home in Cardington from 2-4PM and 6-8PM on Monday Aug. 4. Funeral Services will be held at Cardington Church of the Nazarene at 11:00 AM with Pastor Phil Hurlbert and Pastor Walter Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Glendale Union Cemetery with military honors provided by Jenkins-Vaughn American Legion Post # 97.

Brian Keith Miller 07/20/2003
Brian Keith Miller, age 5, of Gilead St. in Cardington, died Sunday July 20,2003.
Brian was born on July 17,1998 in Marion to Jack Leroy Miller Jr and Mary Elizabeth (Risner) Miller, who survive him.
Additional survivors include two sisters; Alexis and Stella Miller of Cardington; Grandparents; Deborah Osborne of Delaware, Marshall and Cindy Risner of Marion. Great-Grandparents; Harold and Mary Large of Marion and Great-Grandmother Stella Wells of Delaware.
Brian was preceded in death by Great-Grandparents Willard and Laura Miller and Till and Zona Risner; Great-Grandfather; Paul E. Wells Sr.; Grandfather; Jack Leroy Miller Sr.; and Uncle Paul E. Wells Jr.
Visitation will be on Wednesday July 23, 2003 from 5-8PM at Gompf Funeral Home in Cardington where services will be held on Thursday at 11AM. Pastor John Jackson will officiate with burial in the Glendale Cemetery.
