Betty M. McKean
Saturday, November 30th, 2002
Betty M. McKean, 86, Lake Ave., Ashtabula, died at Ashtabula County Mecical Center on Thanksgiving morning, where she had been a patient since last Monday.
She was born September 10, 1916 in Avon, New York, the daughter of Richard & Mary (Cawley) Carter and has been a resident of Ashtabula since 1970 coming from Jefferson, Ohio.
She enjoyed doing crafts and sewing.
She is survived by a daughter, Mary Ann Palmer of Phoenix,Ariz., a son, William R. Steward of Louisiana, a step-daughter, Beverly Balcom, of Crystal River, Fla., and a step-son, Howard E. McKean of Louisville, Ohio,.20 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, and several great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Howard J. in 1971, step-brother, LeRoy Carter, a daughter, Pearl who was stillborn, step-daughter, Betty Barrel, a grandson, Mark Steward, and two great-grandsons, Jason & Lance Brown.
No services or calling hours will take place. Creamation will take place at the Care Group Cremation Center in Jefferson. Burial of ashes will take place at the Evergreen Cemetery in Pierpont, Ohio at a later date.
The Fleming Funeral Home, Inc., 49 W. Jefferson St., Jefferson, is handling arrangements.

Lorene Gray Knapp Ritter
Tuesday, November 19th, 2002
Lorene Gray Knapp Ritter, 99, former Jefferson resident and wintered in Port Charlotte, Fla. for many years, died Monday, November 18 at the Onslow Memorial Hospital in Jacksonville, North Carolina where she has resided the past two years.
Mrs. Ritter was born February 17, 1903 in Richwood, W. Va., the daughter of Samuel T. & Janie (Lewis) Knapp. The family moved to Dorset, Ohio in 1909. She graduated from Dorset High School in 1921 and from Kent State Normal School in 1925. She began her teaching career at Lenox School and later taught at the Jefferson Elementary School for a total of 22 years.
She married Roy C. Ritter on August 12, 1929 at the Knapp family home in Dorset. She served as matron of the Ashtabula Co. Jail in Jefferson for eight years in the 1940’s while her husband served as Ashtabula Co. Sheriff.
She was a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Jefferson where she was active in the fomrer Amity Circle. She had been a long time member and Past Worthy Matron of the former Sunshine Chapter of Eastern Star.
She enjoyed fishing, vacationing at the family cottage in Canada, bowling and golf.
Survivors include a daughter, Dr. Rita J. Rebovich of Jacksonville, N. C., a son, Roy C. Ritter, Jr. of Ashtabula and five grandchildren, Todd Rebovich, Jane Dale, Denise McClanahan, Roy C. Ritter, III and Lee Ann Miller and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Roy C. Ritter on August 21, 1990, a grandson, Scott Rebovich, brothers, Thomas C., Richard and Harry Knapp, sisters, Leta B. Knapp and Margaret Lyman.
Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Congregational United Church of Christ, 41 E. Jefferson St., Jefferson, Ohio 44047. The Fleming Funeral Home, Inc., 49 W. Jefferson St., Jefferson, is handling arrangements.

Esther J. White
Sunday, November 17th, 2002
Esther J. White, 87, Jefferson-Eagleville Rd., Austinburg Twp., died Saturday afternoon at the UHHS-Memorial Hospital of Geneva where she had been a patient the past week.
She was born August 23, 1915 in Rome Twp., the daughter of John & Jennie (Wirtanen) Lintela and has been a resident of this area the past 67 years, coming from Cleveland.
Mrs. White attended the Kinsman & Gustavus Schools. She was married to Fred O. White in June of 1935 in Conneautville, Pa. She worked more than 30 years at Sanborn Wire Co., retiring in 1980. Mrs. White attended the Eagleville Bible Church and enjoyed being with her family, reading, baking and traveling.
Survivors include a daughter, Shirley A. Clemson of Jefferson, five grandchildren, Christopher Richcreek of Orlando, Fla., Jeffrey Clemson of Rock Creek, Timothy Clemson of Geneva, Jennifer Fularz of Painesville & Kelly Brainard of Sedona, Ariz., eight great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren and four sisters, Joan Vlasek, Marion Weigand & Margaret Lintela, all of Concord, Ohio & Mildred Holmes of Winter Garden, Fla.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Fred in 1975, a daughter, Phyllis Richcreek in 1989, a grandson, Thomas Richcreek, four sisters, Edna Nyland, Leona Lintela, Ruth St. John & Lillian Thompson and five brothers, William, Alfred, Richard, Martin & Edwin Lintela.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 A. M. Thursday at the Fleming Funeral Home, Inc., 49 W. Jefferson St., Jefferson, with Pastor Bill McMinn of the Eaglville Bible Church officiating. Burial will be in Eagleville Cemetery.
Visitaiton will be Thursday from 9:30 – 11:00 A. M. prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Eagleville Bible Church, 2373 Jefferson-Eagleville Rd., Jefferson, Ohio 44047, envelopes will also be at the funeral home.

Mary C. Hamilton
Friday, April 4th, 2003
Mary C. Hamilton, 95, Webster Rd., Lenox Twp., died Thursday evening at her residence.
She was born December 2, 1907 in Bozman, Mont., the daughter of Samuel & Mary E. (Davis) Gee and has been a resident of the Lenox area since the age of 12. She resided on the property that has been in the Hamilton family the past 146 years.
For many years she worked in the milk bottling house on the Hamilton’s Farms Dairy and also did work for the Ashtabula Co. Extension Office. Many years ago she attended the Eagleville Bible Church and the Lenox Federated Church. She was a self-taught painter, did rug making, leatherwork, weaving, ceramics and knitting.
Survivors include a daughter-in-law, Glenna L. Hamilton of Ashtabula, four grandsons, Rodger C. Hamilton of Smithville, Tex., Rex O. Hamilton of Lenox Twp., Mark A. Hamilton of Rosenberg, Tex. & Tracy A. Hamilton of Washington, Pa., six great-grandchildren, Jason, Kailey, Michael, Marshall, Ryan & Markus Hamilton and a niece, Sandra Gestwicki of Conneaut.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Marshal in 1965, a son, Norman G. Hamilton in 1965, a sister, Esther Gee and brothers, Claude, John & Harold "Andy” Leonard and Vibrat & Thomas Gee.
Memorial services will be held at 8:00 P. M. Monday at the Fleming Funeral Home, Inc., 49 W. Jefferson St., Jefferson, with the Rev. William L. Offutt of the First Baptist Church officiaiting. Cremation took place at the Care Group Cremation Center.
Visitation is Monday from 5-8 P. M. at the funeral home. Burial of cremains will be Tuesday at 11:00 A. M. in the Lenox Center Cemetery. Contributions may be directed to the family. Envelopes will be at the funeral home.

Steve Liptak
Sunday, March 30th, 2003
Steve Liptak, 84, Pierpont, died Saturday morning at the Andover Village Retirement Center (formerly Miller Memorial Nursing Home) where he had been a resident the past eighteen months.
He was born April 7, 1918 in Bridgeport, Conn., the son of John & Katalin (Majancsik) Liptak, both from Pest, Hungary. Mr. Liptak was a resident of the Pierpont area the past 18 years, coming from Rocky River. He was married to the late Goldie Jean Szamko on October 21, 1939 in Cleveland.
He was a veteran of the U. S. Army with the Engineers Crop, 5th Calvary and the 101st Airborne, serving in World War II. He was a 42 year employee with Joy Manufacturing, formerly Smith & Harris, in Brookpart, retiring in 1982.
He was an active member of the Pennline Church of Christ, a life member of the V. F. W. in Parma, he enjoyed fishing, boating, woodworking, tinkering with engines and anything broken and his special joy was his dog, Basil.
Survivors include a daughter, Jo “Gypsi” (Paul) Hudspath of Andover, a granddaughter, Robin Hudspath, serving in the U. S. Air Force in Oklahoma, a great-granddaughter, Amanda and a sister, Betty Young of Hudson.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Goldie, a son, Jack Liptak, a daughter, Judy Albergo, a grandson, Rocky Hudspath, brothers, John & Joseph Liptak & a sister, Jay Liptak & his beloved dog, Basil.
Memorial services will be held Sunday, April 6, 2003, 10:30 A. M. (during regular church services) at the Pennline Church of Christ, 6968 U. S. Rt. 6, Pierpont, with the Rev. Thomas Rank officiating. Cremation took place at the Care Group Cremation Center. No calling hours will be observed.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Animal Protective League, 5970 Green Rd., Kingsville, Ohio 44048. The Fleming Funeral Home, Inc., 49 W. Jefferson St., Jefferson, is handling arrangements.

Kenneth C. Graham
Saturday, March 29th, 2003
Kenneth C. Graham, 81, Iroquois Dr., Marietta, died Friday, March 28, 2003 at the Marietta Memorial Hopital in Marietta.
He was born October 30, 1921 in Melbourne, Australia, the son of Alfred & Nora (Lee) Graham and was a resident of Jefferson before moving to Marietta in 1970.
Mr. Graham was a member of the Australian military Forces, serving six years in the Royal Australian Air Force, serving in World War II. He was married to M. Sue Baber on June 23, 1945 in Jefferson. He was a 30 year employee of the Union Carbide Corp., serving the company in Jefferson, Charleston, W. Va. and Marietta. He retired in 1981.
He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Marietta, he was a certified safety professional, was past master for Tuscan Lodge #342, F. & A. M. in Jefferson, former member and president of the Jefferson Rotary Club and a member of the B. P. O. E. in Marietta.
Survivors include three daughters, S. Kay Maidens of Marietta, Linda J. Bryce of Casper, Wyo. & Sandra L. Hara of Dayton, six grandchildren and several cousins in the Ashtabula area.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, M. Sue (Baber) Graham and a brother in infancy.
Memorial services will be held Saturday, April 5, 2003 at 10:00 A. M. at the First Congregational United Church of Christ, 318 Front St., Marietta, Ohio, with the Rev. Linda N. Steelman officiating. Burial of ashes will take place in Oakdale Cemetery, Jefferson at a later date at the convenience of the family.
Memorial contributions can be directed to the Marietta Memorial Hospice, 210 N. 7th St., Suite 300, Marietta, Ohio 45750. The Fleming Funeral Home, Inc., 49 W. Jefferson St., Jefferson, is handling arrangements.
