Nellie A. Kelner
Monday, August 4th, 2003
Nellie A. Kelner, 89, former Jefferson resident, died Monday morning at her son’s residence in Bellevue, NE, where she had been residing the past seven years.
Mrs. Kelner was born December 13, 1913 in Searight, Pa., the daughter of Phillip F. & Anna C. (Kurowska) Washut and was a Jefferson area resident most of her life, coming from Pennsylvania in 1925. She was married to Frank G. Kelner on June 8, 1946 at St. Joseph Calasanctius Church in Jefferson.
Mrs. Kelner worked at Thompson Products (TRW) in Euclid, during World War II and later worked part-time for AAA License Bureau. She was a member of St. Joseph Calasanctius Church and enjoyed traveling, playing bingo and being with family and friends.
Survivors include a son, George T. Kelner of Bellevue, NE., two sisters, Helen F. Smolen & Rose A. Werenko and a brother, Michael F. Washut, all of Jefferson.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Frank in 1983, two brothers, Henry & John Washut and two sisters in infancy, Mary & Louise.
The funeral mass will be at 10:00 A. M. Saturday, August 9, 2003 at St. Joseph Calasanctius Church, 32 E. Jefferson St., Jefferson, with the Rev. Fr. Stephen Wassie officiating. Burial will be in Oakdale Cemetery.
Calling hours will be Friday from 6-8 P. M. at the Fleming Funeral Home, Inc., 49 W. Jefferson St., Jefferson, with a prayer service at 8:00 P. M. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Alzheimer’s Assoc., 12200 Fairhill Rd., Cleveland, Ohio 44120, envelopes will also be available at the funeral home.

Laura O. New
Friday, August 1st, 2003
Laura O. New, 64, of the Austinburg Nursing and Rehabilitation Center died Thursday July 31, 2003 at her residence. Born October 5, 1938 in Achison, Kansas she is the daughter of Alfred R. and Ellen M. (Kier) Gainer.
A resident of Rome, GA until 1999 she married Norman there on April 9, 1955. She also worked for Shaw industries in Dalton, GA as a yarn mill worker for several years.
She enjoyed going to yard sales, loved Christian movies, outdoors, and picnicking with family. She also enjoyed crocheting and spending time with family. She was preceded in death by her parents her husband Norman in 1988.
She is survived by three daughters, Deborah G. Carver of Rome, GA, Ellen A. Thomas of Ashtabula, and Laura N. Fowler of Jamestown, PA, a son, N. David New II of Rock Mart, GA, a step-sister, Odell Mitchell, 12 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild, and three step-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Monday August 4, 2003 at 11:00 AM at the Fleming Funeral Home 49 W. Jefferson St., Jefferson, with Gordon Emerson, Lay Pastor at the Jefferson First United Methodist Church, officiating. Calling hours will be held Sunday from 3-5 PM. Memorial contributions can be made to the family.

Rondie L. Graham

Rondie L. Graham, 68 of Clay St., Jefferson, Ohio, died early Tuesday morning at the University Hospitals of Cleveland. He was born in Amigo, W.Va. on March 4, 1935, the son of Hobert M. & Bessie M. (Dillon) Graham. He has lived in the Jefferson area for the past 22 years, moving here from Mentor, Ohio. He married Glenda R. Spangler on June 1, 1957 in Painesville, Ohio. He was an employee for 28 years with the Lubrizol Corp. in Painesville as a security guard retiring in 2000. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Jefferson, the Masonic Temple 28 of Painesville, a Mentor firefighter for 10 years. He enjoyed bowling, golf, billards and was a model car collector.
Survivors include his wife, Glenda, three sons, Rondie M. (Kimberly) Graham and Michael D.of Painesville, Steven D. (Heather) of Jefferson, five grandchildren, Jessica, Victoria, Joseph, Elizabeth and Steven Graham II, one brother, Vernie R. Graham of Mentor, three sisters, Lillie Mae Bonar of Amigo, W.Va., Violet Grubb of Mentor, and Marilyn L. Lambert of Orlando, Fla.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers Lawrence H. and Otis R. Graham.
Funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 2, 2003 at 2:00 P.M. at the Fleming Funeral Home, Inc., 49 W. Jefferson Street, Jefferson, Ohio, with the minister Troy Elam presiding. Contributions will be made to the First Baptist Church of Jefferson. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home. Burial will be held in Oakdale Cemetery.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday, from 2-4 & 7-9 P.M. at the funeral home. A Masonic service will be held at 8:45 P.M. on Thursday by the Tuscan Lodge #342 of Jefferson. .

Ruth A. Case
Monday, July 28th, 2003
Ruth Arlene Case, 82, of East 26th St. Country Club Retirement Center of Ashtabula, Ohio died Sunday morning at the Cleveland Clinic from complications.
She was born in Denmark Twp., April 8th, 1921 and was the only child of Swen David and Ruth May (Fassett) Lekander.
She spent her youth on the family farm and went to the Bula one room school then graduated from Jefferson High School in 1939.
Arlene (the name she liked to be known by) was a life time resident of Ashtabula County except for a year and a half that she and her much loved husband of 62 years lived in Cleveland, Ohio (1941-42). She married Harold Morton Case on August 14, 1941 at the Pine Ridge Tabernacle in Cooks Forest Pennsylvania by the Rev. Lloyd C. Pierce. They lived in Saybrook Twp., Ashtabula Harbor and Jefferson, Ohio. They have spent the winters in Ocala, Florida since 1982.
She worked at the Ashtabula True Temper for 6 years, then was known for promoting the World Book, Tupperware and Sarah Coventry Jewelry.
She is a past member of the Sheffield Star Grange where she took part as an overseer and a lecture. She served on the Youth For Christ board. She was a past president and secretary of the Saybrook Center PTA. Also served as their Devotional chairman, the Town & Country Mothers Club, The Times Club & We The Woman.
Arlene was proud to be a member of the First Baptist Church of Ashtabula for over 40 years where she took part in the choir, was President of the Women’s Society, the Harmony Class and the Circle. She loved playing the piano and singing for the Sunday school and you would often find her and Harold singing duets at the church and also on Saturday nights at various community centers and rest homes. She has been a member of the First Baptist Church of Jefferson for over the past 10 years.
Survivors include her husband, Harold, a son, Roger L.(Marilyn) Case of Clarkston, Michigan, and a daughter, Sally A. (Tom) Stowe of Ashtabula, two grandchildren, Jessica & Kyle Case of Clarkston, Michigan.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral service will be held at the First Baptist Church of Jefferson at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, with calling hours half hour prior to service. Officiating will be Rev. John Lekander a nephew of the deceased. Burial will be in Gageville Cemetery in Sheffield Twp., Ohio
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday from 2-4 P.M and 7-9 P.M. at the Fleming Funeral Home, Inc. 49 W. Jefferson St., Jefferson, O. Contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church, Jefferson. Envelopes will be available at the funeral

Edward G. Flack
Sunday, July 20th, 2003
Edward G. Flack, 75, N. Spruce St., Jefferson, died early Sunday morning at the Jefferson Medical Associates (Geriatric Center) after being admitted the previous day. He was born June 15, 1928 in Cherry Valley Twp., the son of Arthur & Frances (Hedrick) Flack and was a Williamsfield Twp. resident most of his life, living in Jefferson the past 14 years. Mr. Flack was a veteran of the U. S. Army, serving in the Korean Conflict. He was self-employed, doing excavating, welding and other miscellaneous jobs. He served as Williamsfield Twp. Trustee for four terms from 1970-1985. Mr. Flack attended St. Joseph Calasanctius Church, was a member of the Ashtabula Co. Trustees Association, the American Legion, Kinsman Post #506, V. F. W., Post #943 in Ashtabula, Jefferson Eagles, Aerie Lodge #3881, was involved with many areas of local politics and was a general handy man that could fix anything. Survivors include his wife, Betty L. (Hadlock) Flack, whom he married on December 9, 1989 at St. Joseph Calasanctius Church in Jefferson, four children, Nancy J. (Charles) Schroeder of Mogadore, Laurie J. (Joseph) Mezinger of Cherry Valley Twp., Terry L. (Tammy) Flack of Williamsfield Twp. & Jane M. (Leroy) Hudson of Pierpont Twp., a step-son, Lewis B. Antolak of Jefferson, nine grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, two brothers, Robert Flack of Williamsfield Twp. & Eugene Flack of Andover Twp. and a sister, Joanne Eastlake of Williamsfield Twp. He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Mary Ellen (Herpy) Flack in 1985 and a brother, James Flack. The funeral mass will be at 11:00 A. M. Wednesday at St. Joseph Calasanctius Church, 32 E. Jefferson St., Jefferson, Ohio 44047. Following services cremation will take place at the Care Group Cremation Center with burial of ashes taking place at a later date. Calling hours will be Tuesday from 3-4 & 7-9 P. M. at the Fleming Funeral Home, Inc., 49 W. Jefferson St., Jefferson. Contributions may be directed to the St. Joseph Calasanctius Church Memorial Fund at the above address and envelopes will also be at the funeral home.

David W. Decaire

David W. Decaire, 44, formerly of Ashtabula Co., died unexpectedly Tuesday July8, 2003 at the Memorial Hospital of Geneva, UHHS. He was born Juanuary 21, 1959 in Ashtabula, the son of Larry Decaire and Alice (Herman) Carraher. He spent 20 years in this area, attending Chardon High School before moving to Florida with his mother. He attended the Lutheran Church and the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Florida. He loved working on his computer. He is survived by his father, Larry (Bobbi) Decaire of North Olmstead, his mother, Alice Carraher of Satsuma., Fl., his finance, Thu Trang Vo of Vietnam, a sister, Robin Coley of Laramie, Wy., three brothers, Bryan Decaire of Rochester, Minn., Kevin Decarie of Elyria and Adam Decaire of Roanoke, Tex., two step-brothers, Robert Whitacre of Victoria, Tex. & Steven Decaire of Kingsville and two step-sisters, Terri Wolters & Rebecca Sutfin, both of Grandhaven, Mich. A memorial service will be held Saturday, July 12, 2003 at 1054 Perry Rd., Jefferson, with David’s father, Larry, leading the service. The Fleming Funeral Home, Inc., 49 W. Jefferson St., Jefferson, is handling arrangements.

Malden "Sally" McGirr

Malden “Sally” McGirr, 91, formerly of E. Jefferson St., Jefferson, died late Thursday evening at the Carington Park Nursing Home in Ashtabula where she had been a resident the past six years.
She was born April 25, 1912 in Greenbrier Co., W. Va., the daughter of Charles & Elizabeth (Perry) Young and has resided in this area since 1940, coming from Alexandria, Ohio. She was married to Roy J. McGirr, Sr. on October 13, 1930.
Mrs. McGirr enjoyed reading, traveling, flower gardening and was a country music fan.
Survivors include three daughters, Mary E. Coy of Ashtabula, Mona G. Hamons of Milan, Ohio and W. Jane Reeves of Statham, Ga., 22 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren, several great-great-grandchildren and a sister, Elsie Clements of Kingsville Twp.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Roy J. McGirr, Sr., two sons, Charles D. & Roy J. McGirr, Jr., two sisters, Gladys Allen & Beatrice Waggoner and three brothers, Earl, Otto & Charles “Red” Young.
Graveside services will be held Monday, September 29, 2003 at 10:30 A. M. at the Dorset Cemetery with Gordon Emerson, lay pastor of the Jefferson United Methodist Church officiating. Contributions may be offered to the family in care of the funeral home.
The Fleming Funeral Home, Inc., 49 W. Jefferson St., Jefferson, is handling arrangements.
