Armand K. Parker
Tuesday, March 23rd, 2004
Armand K. Parker, 72, 1718 Garvin Rd., York, S. C., died Thursday, March 18, 2004 at the Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill, S. C. Funeral services were held at the Greene Funeral Home in Rock Hill on Sunday, March 21.
Mr. Parker was a native of Rome Twp., and was the son of the late Orre Mark & Hazel Marie (Taylor) Parker. He was retired as manager of Springdale Lube in Rock Hill, S. C. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army.
He was preceded in death by his third wife, Norma Ross and his close companion of many years, Frances Cox.
Survivors include three sons, Ronald (Judy Melvin) Parker & Dennis Parker, both of Plano, Texas and Jeffery Parker of Southpoint, Ohio, four daughters, Kathleen (Martin) Mooney of Jefferson, Ann (Vernon) Mathis of Brinson, Ga., Elaine Parker of Jefferson and Donna (Virgil) Stevenson of Catawba, S. C., a brother, Wahland (Laura) Parker of McMinnville, Tenn., a sister, Faye (William) Reznak of Rome Twp., 14 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held Saturday, March 27, 2004, at 11:00 A. M. at Unionville Cemetery with Gordon Emerson, lay pastor of the Jefferson United Methodist Church officiating. A gathering of friends and family will be held at the home of his daughter, Kathleen Mooney, 399 Kathleen Dr., Jefferson, at 1:00 P. M. on Saturday.
The Fleming Funeral Home, Inc., 49 W. Jefferson St., Jefferson, is handling arrangements.

Gale Duane Burnett, II
Tuesday, March 23rd, 2004
Gale Duane Burnett, II, 56, of Belvidere, TN., died Wednesday, March 17 in Tennessee.
He was an Ashtabula Co. resident most of his life, moving to Tennessee five years ago. He was the son of the late Gale & Clara (Burtt) Burnett.
Mr. Burnett was a truck driver for Slusher Trucking. He enjoyed riding horses and repairing cars.
Survivors include his wife, Laura Wiltrout Burnett of Belvidere, TN., a son, Gale Burnett of Belvidere, TN., a daughter, Tracy Burnett of Meadville, PA., two step-sons, John & Kyle Wiltrout, a step-daughter, Nicola Wiltrout, nine grandchildren, a sister, Ruth (Mac) McCullough of Manchester, TN., three brothers, Cecil (Sue) Burnett of Orwell, Robert (Cathi) Burnett of Jefferson and Richard (Jean) Burnett of Kingsville and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers Gerald & David Burnett.
Funeral services were held Saturday, March 20, 2004 in Winchester, TN. The Fleming Funeral Home, Inc., is handling local arrangements.

James Richard VanCourt
Saturday, March 20th, 2004
James Richard VanCourt, 59, Conroe, Texas, died Thursday, March 11, 2004 in Houston, Texas.
He was born May 7, 1944 in Cleveland, the son of James F. & Viola L. (Goedert) VanCourt and grew up in this area. He was a member of the first graduating class, 1962, at Pymatuning Valley High School. Mr. VanCourt was an avid golfer, loved to antique shop and be with his family. He was an active member of Faith Baptist Church.
He was a veteran of the U. S. Air Force, serving in Viet Nam. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge.
Survivors include his wife, Pamela (Pabliska) VanCourt of Conroe, Tex., five children, Nikki Renee VanCourt of Pinehurst, Jennifer Lynn Draper of Conroe, James (Geraldine) VanCourt, II of The Woodlands, Buster Lee (Laura) Draper of Conroe & Scott Anan Draper of Montgomery, two grandchildren, Stephanie Nicole VanCourt & Cassie Lee Draper, his father, James F. VanCourt of Albuquerque, N. M., a sister, Penny Redmon of Jefferson, two brothers, Danny VanCourt of New Mexico and Terry VanCourt of Virginia, three nieces and two nephews, Michele Allega of Cleveland, Michael Redmon of South Carolina and Andrew, Hannah and Amanda VanCourt of New Mexico and his mother-in-law, Wanda Pabliska of Conroe.
Funeral services were held Monday, March 15, 2004 in Conroe, Texas. Burial was in Houston National Cemetery, Houston, Texas.
Local arrangements were with Fleming Funeral Home, Inc., 49 W. Jefferson St., Jefferson.

Marion L. Day
Friday, March 19th, 2004
Marion L. Day, 86, a lifelong resident of New Lyme Twp., spending a short time in Orwell, died early Friday morning at the Jefferson Medical Associates (Jefferson Geriatric Center) where she had been a resident the past five years.
She was born May 18, 1917 in New Lyme Twp., the daughter of Charles M. & Amanda M. (Rhoades) Day. Miss day was a 1933 graduate of New Lyme High School and a 1934 graduate of Andover High School. She did private practical nursing before retiring.
Miss Day was a member of the Cherry Valley United Methodist Church and was active in 4-H in her early years.
She has no immediate family surviving.
Graveside services will be held Saturday at 2:30 P. M. at the Brownville Cemetery with Gordon Emerson, lay pastor at the Jefferson United Methodist Church officiating. No calling hours will be observed.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Berea Children’s Home, 202 E. Bagley Rd., Berea, Ohio 44017. The Fleming Funeral Home, Inc., 49 W. Jefferson St., Jefferson, is handling arrangements.

Vivian G. Cizl
Sunday, March 7th, 2004
Vivian G. Cizl, 79, E. Jefferson St., Jefferson, died Saturday at the Ashtabula Co. Medical Center where she had been a patient the past month.
She was born December 22, 1924 in Detroit, Mich., the daughter of Lester & Pearl (Krogg) Greenmiller and has been a resident of Jefferson since 1996, coming from Las Vegas where she lived for 21 years. She previously lived in Cleveland. Mrs. Cizl was a porter for the Imperial Palace Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas for 15 years, retiring in 1989.
She enjoyed crafts, reading, jigsaw puzzles and her family and friends.
Survivors include three children, Janet R. (Harold) Hudson of Jefferson, Gary A. (Paula) Cizl of Las Vegas, Nev. & Joseph F. (Nancy) Cizl of Cleveland, eight grandchildren & five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Joseph in 1966 and a brother, Michael Greenmiller.
No calling hours will be observed. Cremation will take place at the Family Care Group Cremation Center. The family will host a memorial gathering at Mrs. Cizl’s apartment, 223 E. Jefferson St., #5, Jefferson, Ohio on Tuesday, March 9, from 3-6 P. M.
Memorial contributions may be made to The Salvation Army, 3527 Lake Ave., Ashtabula, Ohio 44004 or to the Animal Protective League, 5970 Green Rd., Kingsville, Ohio 44048. The Fleming Funeral Home, Inc., 49 W. Jefferson St. Jefferson, is handling arrangements.

Brower R. Ellis
Friday, March 5th, 2004
Brower R. Ellis, 87, a resident of The Sanctuary in Geneva, died early Thursday morning at the Villa at the Lake in Conneaut after being admitted there on Monday. Mr. Ellis has been a resident of this area only the past four years, coming from Chester Springs, Pa.
He was born December 28, 1916 in Philadelphia, Pa., the son of Harry K. & Ora E. (Rapp) Ellis. He was a graduate of Lehigh University and a veteran of the U. S. Coast Guard Reserves. He was an electrical engineer, working for Mac Manufacturing Corp., Dupont Corp. and retiring from Tung Sol in 1977.
Mr. Ellis was a member of the East Nantmeal Baptist Church where he served faithfully as a deacon, Sunday school teacher and occasional speaker. and attended the Eagleville Bible Church. In his early years was active in Scouting, was an Eagle Scout and was nationally recognized as a Boy Scout Observer of Winter Camping. He was a member of Phoenix Lodge #75, F. & A. M. in Phoenixville, Pa., the York Rite & the Scottish Rite, the I. O. O. F. and was an active supporter of the Christian Endeavor Youth Organization.
While living in Chester Springs, he enjoyed a four acre orchard on his property and doing his gardening, he also ran a radio and television repair business. He was a member of the Chester Co. Antique Auto Club, a Hiking Club and enjoyed reading, music, carpentry, electrical work and audio/visual work.
He leaves his adopted family and true friends, Bill, Jeri, Cassie, Luke & Mikayla McMinn, whom were also caregivers for Mr. Ellis and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Betty in 1972 and a brother, Harry K. Ellis, Jr.
Funeral services will be held Monday, March 8, 2004, at 11:00 A. M. at the East Nantmeal Baptist Church, 900 Nantmeal Rd., Elverson, Pa. 19520, with Pastor Bill McMinn officiating. Burial will follow the services in East Natmeal Baptist Church Cemetery where Phoenix Lodge #75 will conduct Masonic services.
Visitation will be held at the church from 10-11 A. M. on Monday. Memorial contributions may be made to Action Impact, Inc., 1753 Hopewell Rd., Elverson, Pa. 19520, envelopes will also be at the church. The Fleming Funeral Home, Inc., 49 W. Jefferson St., Jefferson, is handling arrangements.

Fred Amsden
Fred Amsden, 76, Stumpville Rd., Jefferson Twp., died Wednesday afternoon at the Jefferson Medical Associates (Jefferson Geriatric Center) where he had been a residetn the past seven years.
He was born August 20, 1927 in Jefferson, the son of Robert R. & Helen M. (King) Amsden and has lived in the Jefferson and Andover areas all of his life. Mr. Amsden retired in 1993 from Northwest Roofing Co. in Meadeville, Pa. after 25 years of service. He previously worked for Beidler-Taylor Roofing Co. in Ashtabula, completed full police training and worked as auxiliary officer for the Andover Police Dept. for several years, was a security officer at the Ashtabula Co. Medical Center and worked at Bayshore Campgrounds in Andover.
Mr. Amsden was a member of the Jefferson United Methodist Church, Roofers Union, Local 210 in Erie, he enjoyed hunting and fishing and was an avid gardener, especially raising gladiolas. He was always available to help family and friends with projects.
Survivors include his wife, Winifred K. (Peck) Langheid Amsden, whom he married on November 20, 1993 at the Jefferson United Methodist Church, a daughter, Carol L. (Mark) Hollis of Andover, five step-children, Shirley M. (Rod) Davenport of Columbus, Janet V. (Jack) Mullins of Ft. Myers, Fla., E. Jeanne Seybert of Punxsutawney, Pa., Debbe K. Walker of Ravenna & Gary C. Swezey of Brookfield, five grandchildren, Diana L. (David) Golon, James H. (Corby) Rich, Vanessa C. (Jason) Fisher, Trisha M. Hollis & Mark A. (Kim) Hollis, Jr., six great-grandchildren, 15 step-grandchildren and 19 step-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Catherine L. Rich, two sisters, Lillian Park & Jennie DeAngelo-Rappose, a half-sister, Margaret Buccini, a brother, Robert Amsden and his former wife, Margaret (Hamilton) Amsden.
Funeral services will be 10:30 A. M. Saturday at the Fleming Funeral Home, Inc., 49 W. Jefferson St., Jefferson, with Gordon Emerson, lay pastor and the Rev. Meredith Coleman, both of the Jefferson United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Andover.
Calling hours will be Friday from 4-7 P. M. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Jefferson United Methodist Church Memorial Fund, 125 E. Jefferson St., Jefferson, Ohio 44047, envelopes will also be at the funeral home.
