Mary M. Noirot
Friday, July 9th, 2004
Mary M. Noirot, 98, of 967 Garrett Rd., Jefferson and formerly of St. Rt. 46 South, passed away July 8, 2004 at Jefferson Medical Associates after a short illness. She had made her home with her daughter Joan for the past nine years until recently when she entered Jefferson Medical Associates.
She was born July 13, 1905 in Kopki, Poland, the daghter of Frank and Katherine (Hammer) Schossler going to Ashtabula from Poland at the age of 9 then later moving to Jefferson. Mary was a member of St. Joseph Calasanctius Church. She was a loving and hard working mother who enjoyed her family and friends. She was known for her excellent cooking and baking skills.
Survivors include her daughter, Joan Lukianchuk of Jefferson, a son Stanley (Anne) Huber of Andover, eleven grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren and daughter-in-law Anna Mae Huber Graham, Jefferson.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, Michael Huber and Wilbur Noirot, son, Eugene Huber, four brothers, Frank, John, Stanley, and Bernard Schossler, five sisters, Antoinette Huszczo, Josephine Francis, Catherine Sigmund, Walentyna Gottmeier, Pauline Rupinski, son-in-law, Nick Lukianchuk and stepson William Noirot.
A funeral mass will be held at 10:00 A.M. Monday, July 12th at St. Joseph Calasanctius Church, 32 E. Jefferson St., Jefferson, with the Rev. Stephen Wassie of the church as celebrant.
Burial will be held in Oakdale Cemetery. At the request of the deceased no calling hours will be observed.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the St. Joseph Church memorial fund, 32 E. Jefferson Street, Jefferson, or Hospice of Western Reserve, P.O. Ellen M. Pallinger
Tuesday, July 6th, 2004
Ellen M. Pallinger, 96, Plain, Ohio, died in the early morning hours of July 5, 2004 at her home.
She was born July 22, 1907 in Olyphant, Pa., the daughter of Cornelius C. & Jennie Collins and spent most of her life in Ashtabula.
A graduate of Niles High School and Kent State Univesity and was a primary teacher. She was married to Ernest J. Pallinger on August 31, 1935 in Toledo.
She is survived by a son, Ronald E. Pallinger and a daughter, Ellen S. Pallinger, both of Plain and a sister, Jeannette Gustafson of Cuyahoga Falls.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and a son, Richard N. Pallinger.
Private funeral services will be held at the Fleming Funeral Home, Inc., 49 W. Jefferson St., Jefferson. No calling hours will be observed. Burial will be in Oakdale Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Alliance Visiting Nurse & Hospice, 885 S. Sawburg Rd., Suite 106, Alliance, Ohio 44601.

Arvin A. Rumer
Monday, July 5th, 2004
Arvin A. Rumer, 71, Dickenson Rd., Ashtabula Twp., died Saturday evening in the Hospice Unit at the Ashtabula Co. Medical Center.
He was born April 4, 1933 in Englon, W.Va., the son of Gilbert & Idella (Harsh) Rumer and has been a resident of the Ashtabula area since 1955 coming from Thomas, W. Va. Mr. Rumer was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was married to Lucy M. Porter on May 20, 1955 in Cumberland, Md. Mr. Rumer was a 23 year employee of the East Ohio Gas Co., retiring in 1981.
He was an avid Cleveland Indians and Browns fan, he enjoyed golfing, hunting, fishing, yardwork and leathercraft, he played the mandolin and loved playing bluegrass music with friends. He mostly enjoyed his family and friends.
Survivors include his wife, Lucy M. Rumer, three children, Diane L. Rumer of Ashtabula, Gregg A. (Yvonne) Rumer of Conneaut & Kevin D. (Sandra) Rumer of Ashtabula, three grandchildren, Michael B. Szabo of Defiance, Sierra R. Rumer of Conneaut & Amanda N. Rumer of Ashtabula and four siblings, Alvin E. Rumer of Petersburg, W. Va., Donna A. Riggleman of Cabin, W. Va., Evelyn K. Simmons of Abington, Va. & Glenn N. Rumer of Glen Burnie,Md.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11:00 A.M. at the Fleming Funeral Home, Inc., 49 W. Jefferson St., Jefferson, with the Rev. Kenneth Roberts of the Pentecostal Church of God and Rev. Duane Ball of Harvest International Church officiating. Burial will be in Edgewood Cemetery.
Calling hours will be Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 P.M. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Western Reserve, P.O. Box 2010, Ashtabula, Ohio 44005, envelopes will be at the funeral home.

Mary Ann (Kerchelich) Barnes
Friday, July 2nd, 2004
Mary Ann (Kerchelich) Barnes, 73, Linden St., Jefferson, died Thursday morning in the Hospice Unit at the Ashtabula Co. Medical Center.
She was born January 3, 1931 in Fairmont, W. Va., the daughter of Andrew & Mary Ann (Doshen) Kerchelich, living in this area most of her life, moving from West Virginia at the age of six. She was a graduate of Deming High School in Rome Twp.
Mrs. Barnes started her working career at Andover Industries and later spent 14 years at Roller Plastics before retirement. She taught herself to drive in a horseshoe driveway. Mrs. Barnes raised four children on her own. She was a member of the Dorset Baptist Church.
Survivors include four children, Barbara Ann Aquilina of Tuscon, Ariz., Richard R (Jeanetta) Van Winkle, Patricia Y. (Alvin) Gainey and Hugh “Ron” Van Winkle, all of Jefferson, eight grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, a sister, Kay Cook of Florida and two brothers, John & Joe Kerchelich, both of California.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Martin & James Kerchelich and a grandson, Charles Robert Ward.
Private funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon at the Fleming Funeral Home, Inc., 49 W. Jefferson St., Jefferson, with Edward Pickard of the Dorset Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be in Dorset Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice of the Western Reserve, P. O. Box 2010, Ashtabula, Ohio 44005.

Mae B. Stainfield
Friday, June 18th, 2004
Mae B. (Hayslett) Stainfield, 85, Jefferson, died early Thursday morning in the Hospice Unit at the Ashtabula Co. Medical Center following an extended illness.
She was born September 15, 1918 in Cherry Valley Twp., the daughter of John & Ella (Burns) Hayslett and has been a resident of the Jefferson area most of her life. She was married to Lyle J. Stainfield on June 17, 1944 in Lennox City, N. J. She was employed with the General Electric Corp. for several years.
Mrs. Stainfield was a member of the Jefferson United Methodist Church where she was a church helper, she enjoyed crocheting, sewing and walking. Mrs. Stainfield has traveled all 50 states and most of the world.
She is survived by a daughter, Eileen K. McGill of Hendersonville, N. C., a sister, Lola Metzler and a brother, Lewis Hayslett, both of Jefferson.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Lyle in 2003, three sisters, Grace Morford, Claire Humphrey & Nellie VanWinkle and two brothers, Lawrence & Roy Hayslett.
Funeral services will be at 2:30 P. M. on Monday at the Fleming Funeral Home, Inc., 49 W. Jefferson St., Jefferson, with the Rev. Meredith Coleman of the Jefferson United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Dorset Cemetery.
Visitation will be Monday from 1:30-2:30 P. M. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Assoc., 12200 Fairhill Rd., Clevaland, Ohio 44120, envelopes will also be at the funeral home.

Joseph A. Misinec
Friday, June 18th, 2004
Joseph A. Misinec, 86, Brown Rd., Denmark Twp., died early Friday morning in the Hospice Unit at the Ashtabula Co. Medical Center.
He was born October 10, 1917 in Jefferson, the son of Charles & Johanna (Vdovka) Misinec and has been a Jefferson area resident all of his life. He was married to Emily S. Stehura on June 8, 1940 at St. Andrews Church in Sheffield Twp.
Mr. Misinec worked many years on the railroad, New York Central, Penn Central & Conrail, retiring from Lower Lake Docks in 1982. He started his work as a fireman on the Nickle Plate Railroad, then worked for National Distillers & Ashtabula Shipyards before joining New York Central. He also owned and operated the Misinec Dairy & Beef Farm.
He was a member of St. Joseph Calasanctius Church, Knights of Columbus, Jefferson Council #4212, 70 year member of Griggs Grange #1467 and the Ashtabula Moose Lodge.
Survivors include five children, Joseph A. (Carol) Misinec, Jr. of Ashtabula, Edwin D. (Sue Ann) Misinec & Ralph L. (Cindy) Misinec, both of Jefferson, Judith A. Misinec of Ashtabula and Joyce A. (Tony Hodun) Misinec of Cincinnati, 11 grandchildren, JR (Tammy) Misinec, Jodi Misinec, David (Lorainne) Misinec, Jill Misinec, Marcus Misinec, Jennifer (Jason) Brand, Adam (Heather) Misinec, Christine Misinec, Charlene Misinec, Drew Hodun & Emily Hodun and four great-grandchildren, Sabrina & Alan Misinec and Kate & Megan Brand.
His parents, his wife, Emily in 1983 and a brother, James Misinec, preceded him in death.
The funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:00 A. M. Monday at St. Joseph Calasanctius Church, 32 E. Jefferson St., Jefferson, with the Rev. Fr. Stephen Wassie officiating. Burial will be in Oakdale Cemetery.
Calling hours will be Sunday from 5-8 P. M. at the Fleming Funeral Home, Inc., 49 W. Jefferson St., Jefferson, with Grange Services at 7:45 P. M. Contributions may be directed to the St. Joseph Calasanctius Church Memorial Fund, 32 E. Jefferson St., Jefferson, Ohio 44047, envelopes will also be at the funeral home.

Charles A. "Chuck" Powis
Tuesday, June 15th, 2004
Charles “Chuck” A. Powis, 77, died unexpectedly Monday June 14, 2004 at the Ashtabula County Medical Center, Ashtabula.
He was born on May 4, 1927 in Centreville, PA. the son of William H. and Martha (Jones) Powis.
He graduated from East High School, Cleveland, in 1945. He served in the U.S. Army following WWII and was a Corporal with the Army military Police.
He worked for 40 years at TRW in Cleveland until his retirement in 1991. He and his wife moved to Jefferson in 2003 coming from Euclid, Ohio.
He enjoyed gardening and working in the yard.
He is survived by his wife Marge, his sons Richard and Kyle; his brother William (Olga) of S. Carolina; and his sister Gwendolyn Carlson of Anaheim, Ca.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 3 p.m. in the Fleming Funeral Home 49 W. Jefferson St. Jefferson.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday afternoon from 1 to 3 P.M. prior to the service. In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorial contributions be made to the American Diabetes. Assoc.
