Tuesday, December 7th, 2004
Nancy L. Long, 81, Peterson Rd., Denmark Twp., died unexpectedly early Monday morning after being rushed to the emergency room at the Ashtabula Co. Medical Center
She was born September 9, 1923 in Newburn, Ala., the daughter of Lorenzo & Flora (Myatt) Burnett and has been a resident of the Jefferson area since 1969, coming from Cleveland. She was married to Columbus Long.
Mrs. Long was currently a patient care assistant with Hospice of the Western Reserve and she was formerly employed with the General Electric Corp., was a broker with John W. Long Realty and was an agent with Joan Curtis Realty and Realty One.
She was a member of the Central Missionary Baptist Church in Jefferson and a former member of the East Mount Zion Baptist Church in Cleveland. She enjoyed gardening and cooking. Mrs. Long was a friend to everyone and referred to by many as Huntdear, Mamadear, Church Mother, Aunt Nancy, Mama & Grandma.
Mrs. Long leaves behind her son and daughter-in-law, Norman E. & Sherrie J. Long of Cleveland Hts., her faithful and loyal friend, Pastor Dave Chappell, Jr. of Ashtabula, her grandchildren, December Long Garner, Willie Cater, James Long, Bonita (Terry) Marshall, Norman (Rasheda) Long, Wade Long, Steven Stahl and Renee Stahl, her great-grandchildren, George Garner, Quiona (Kiki) Garner, Ashante Long Williams, Angel Long, Tori Cater, Jennifer Cater, Paula, Ashley Cater, Jamika Long, Terrell Marshall, Cordell Marshall and four great-great-grandchildren, many cousins, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Columbus in 1986, a son, Thomas L. Long and a grandson, Andre L. Long.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A. M. Saturday at the Central Missionary Baptist Church, 930 Clay Rd., Jefferson, with Pastor Dave Chappell, Jr., Rev. Samuel Richardson and Minister Isaac Chappell officiating. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memory Gardens.
Calling hours will be held Friday from 7-9 P. M. at the Fleming Funeral Home, Inc., 49 W. Jefferson St., Jefferson. Memorial contributions may be made to the Central Missionary Baptist Church, P. O. Box 402, Jefferson, Ohio 44047 or to Hospice of the Western Reserve, P. O. Box 2010, Ashtabula, Ohio 44005, envelopes will also be at the funeral home and church.

Donald A. Rhoads
Saturday, April 9th, 2005
Donald A. Rhoads, 37, W. Beech St., Jefferson, died Thursday evening in the Hospice Unit at the Ashtabula Co. Medical Center following a long illness.
He was born June 9, 1967 in Ashtabula and has lived in the Jefferson area most of his life, other than living in Fairfax, VA for five years. Mr. Rhoads was a veteran of the U. S. Navy. He was a self-employed carpenter and also worked for several years at the Mannor Home in Geneva.
Mr. Rhoads was a member of the Austinburg Congregational United Church of Christ. He was an avid NASCAR fan, liked building things and working with his hands and was a “free spirited”, full of life person.
He is survived by his parents, Barbara K. (Norris) & Alfred L. Weatherbee of Jefferson, five children, Tiphanie Rhoads of Ashtabula, Elizabeth & Robin Rhoads, both in Virginia and Dawn & Cody Rhoads, both in Geneva, his grandmother, Kathryn Norris of Jefferson, two brothers & a sister, David Rhoads of Jefferson, Diane (Gary) Thompson of Ocala, FL & Dean (Heather) Weatherbee of Jefferson and one niece and several nephews.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Gene Norris, Nora & William Weatherbee & Arlie & Betty Rhoads and an aunt, Judy Reeder.
Memorial services will be held Monday at 7:30 P. M. at the Austinburg Congregational United Church of Christ, 2870 St. Rt. 307, Austinburg, with the Rev. Allison Milligan officiating. Burial of ashes will be held Tuesday at 3:00 P. M. in Oakdale Cemetery in Jefferson.
No calling hours will be observed. Cremation took place at the Family Care Group Cremation Center. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Western Reserve, 1166 Lake Ave., Ashtabula, OH 44004 or to Catholic Charities of Ashtabula Co., 4200 Park Ave., 3rd Floor, Ashtabula, OH 44004. Envelopes will be at the church. The Fleming Funeral Home, Inc., 49 W. Jefferson St., Jefferson, is handling arrangements.

David John Perry
Thursday, April 7th, 2005
David John Perry, 46, died Sunday April 3, 2005 at the Ohio Valley Medical Center in Wheeling, W. VA. He was the son of Lucille (Corson) Perry and David Perry and was born on March 26, 1959 in Warren, Ohio.
Mr. Perry was a 1977 graduate of Pymatuning Valley High School where he was very active with Future Farmers of America. He also attended Ohio State University, furthering his knowledge of the cattle industry, to which he was so dedicated. He was a founder of the Ohio Chianina Association. Over the years he received several awards for showmanship and did cattle judging for different county and state fairs and special events. He was also a licensed auctioneer.
He will be dearly missed by his mother, Lucy, his father, Dave, his brothers & sister-in-laws, Don & Charleen, Doug & Dawn and Dan & Denica and nieces and nephews, Samantha, Joe, Shane, Christie, Zack, Blake & Mya.
A graveside memorial service is scheduled for Thursday, April 14, 2005 at 11:00 A. M. at the Hayes Cemetery, Hayes Rd., Wayne Twp. The Fleming Funeral Home, Inc., 49 W. Jefferson St., Jefferson, is assisting with arrangements.

Winifred K. Langheid Amsden

Winifred K. Langheid Amsden, 81, Stumpville Rd., Jefferson Twp., died Sunday afternoon in the intensive care unit at the Ashtabula Co. Medical Center following a brief illness.
She was born December 29, 1923 in Cherry Valley Twp., the daughter of Harold & Elsie (Reakes) Peck and has been a resident of this area all of her life. Mrs. Amsden was a 40 year employee of Reliance Electric Corp., retiring in 1987.
Mrs. Amsden was a member of the Jefferson United Methodist Church, member and president of the Reliance Electric Retirees Club, president of the Reliance Electric Benefits Assoc., elected union counselor for the AFL-CIO Local 270 members of Reliance Electric, representative of Workers Compensation for AFL-CIO Local 270, served several years as secretary for Ashtabula Co. Council AFL-CIO, served on both Ashtabula Co. United Way Board and Ashtabula Co. Mental & Retardation Board, was a member of Northeast Ohio I. C. A . and was an active participant in Mended Hearts. She also enjoyed traveling.
Survivors include two daughters, Jeanne M. Seybert of Puxantuny, PA and Debbe K. Walker of Ravenna, OH, five grandchildren, Michael Seybert, Holly Seybert, Nikki Wright, Stephanie Walker & Jamie Messenger, nine great-grandchildren and two brothers, William Peck of Sheffield Twp., & Ronald Peck of Twenty Nine Palms, CA.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two husbands, Willard E. Langheid and James Frederick Amsden.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A. M. Saturday at the Fleming Funeral Home, Inc., 49 W. Jefferson St., Jefferson, with the Rev. Meredith Coleman of the Jefferson United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Orwell North Cemetery.
Calling hours will be Friday from 6-8 P. M. at the funeral home. Contributions may be made to the Jefferson United Methodist Church Memorial Fund, 125 E. Jefferson St., Jefferson, OH 44047, envelopes will also be at the funeral home.

William Donald Chambers
Tuesday, March 29th, 2005
William Donald Chambers, 57, Lake St., Kingsville, died unexpectedly Sunday morning while on the job at Praxir Corp. in Ashtabula Twp.
He was born October 25, 1947 in Blakely, GA, the son of Dawson & Katie (Rogers) Chambers and has been a resident of this area since 1975, coming from Bradenton, FL. He was married to the former Martha L. Musgrave on Octobr 8, 1967 in Ridgeland, SC. Mr. Chambers was a truck driver for Praxair Corp. the past 20 years.
He was a member of the Braden River Baptist Church in Bradenton, FL. He was an outstanding football and baseball player while at Southeast High School in Bradenton and enjoyed fishing, camping, hunting and being with his family.
Survivors include his wife, Martha, five children, Kandi S. Webb of Chardon, William D. Chambers, Jr., serving with the U. S. Marines at Keesler AFB in MS, Polly A. Jones of Ashtabula, Kelly M. Anderson of N. Kingsville & Robert E. Chambers of Kingsville, 11 grandchildren, his father & step-mother, Dawson & Elizabeth Chambers of Bradenton, FL, and a sister and brother, Dorothy Jahn & Harold Chambers, both of Bradenton, FL.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Katie Chambers.
Funeral services will be at 7:30 P. M. Thursday at the Fleming Funeral Home, Inc., 49 W. Jefferson St., Jefferson, with Pastor Roger Jahn, nephew of Mr. Chambers officiating. Cremation will take place at the Family Care Group Cremation following services with private burial of ashes in Lulu Falls Cemetery, Kingsville Twp.
Visitation will be Thursday from 5:00 – 7:30 P. M. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes. Assoc., P. O. Box 2680, North Canton, OH 44720, envelopes will also be at the funeral home.

Bessie M. Weeks
Tuesday, March 29th, 2005
Bessie M. Weeks, 92, Heritage Sq., Jefferson, died early Tuesday morning at the Jefferson Medical Associates following an illness of several weeks.
She was born December 13, 1912 in Denmark Twp., the daughter of James F. & Betty A. (Paulson) Hamilton and has lived in the Ashtabula Co. all of her life. She was married to Deforest Weeks on September 15, 1952. Mrs. Weeks was a 20 year employee of Clinton Drug Store, retiring in 1975.
She is a member of the Jefferson United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women and was a former volunteer at the Ashtabula Co. Medical Center.
Survivors include three sisters and a brother, Florence E. Hamilton of Ashtabula, Gladys M. Hamilton of Jefferson, J. Arthur Hamilton of Jefferson and Caroline L. Hazen of Deland, FL and one niece and two nephews, Katherine Simon of Jefferson, Kenneth A. Hamilton of Logan, UT & Keith C. Hamilton of Ecuador.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Deforest, a brother, Clarence Hamilton and four sisters, Nora, Edith, C. Lucille and Helen A. Hamilton.
Memorial services will be held at 1:00 P. M. Thursday at the Fleming Funeral Home, Inc., 49 W. Jefferson St., Jefferson, with Gordon Emerson, lay pastor of Jefferson United Methodist Church officiating. Cremation will take place at the Family Care Group Cremation Center with private burial of ashes in Oakdale Cemetery.
No calling hours will be observed. Contributions may be made to the Jefferson United Methodist Church Memorial Fund, 125 E. Jefferson St., Jefferson, Oh 44047, envelopes will also be at the funeral home.

Rose Marie Joswick
Tuesday, March 29th, 2005
Rose Marie Joswick, 65, Dorset, died early Tuesday morning at her residence following a long illness.
She was born July 2, 1939 in Cleveland, the daughter of William & Mary (Varga) Blicha and has been a resident of this area since 1974, coming from Cleveland. Mrs. Joswick was currently working at the Ashtabula County Courthouse in the custodial department.
She was a member of St. Joseph Calasanctius Church and enjoyed crafts and being with her family.
Survivors include three children, Lawrence W. Jenick and Lynette J. Crawford, both of Dorset and Lisa Marie Costella of Andover, five grandchildren, Lawra, Lyle, Julia, Jessica & Jenica, a sister, Mary Ann Baka of Lakewood and one niece & two nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
The memorial mass will be Thursday at 11:00 A. M. at St. Joseph Calasanctius Church, 32 E. Jefferson St., Jefferson, with the Rev. Fr. Stephen Wassie officiating. Cremation will take place at the Family Care Group Cremation Center with the burial of ashes Thursday at 2:30 P. M. at St. Joseph Cemetery, Ashtabula.
Calling hours will be held Wednesday from 5-7 P. M. at the Fleming Funeral Home, Inc., 49 W. Jefferson St., Jefferson. Memorial contributions may be made to Northeast Ohio Regional Cancer Center, 2420 Lake Ave., Ashtabula, Ohio 44004, envelopes will also be at the funeral home.
