Mary E. Woodring
Thursday, August 17th, 2006
Mary Ellen McCoy Woodring went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday (Aug. 16th). She passed away peacefully at her home after a long struggle with cancer. Mary was born in Marlington, West Virginia on January 23, 1935 the daughter of Richard B. and Anna (Fowler) McCoy. Her family then moved to Mesopotamia, Ohio. She attended and graduated from Bloomfield High School where she was Homecoming Queen. Mary was a graduate of Kent State University College of Business Administration.
Mary was a licensed Pentecostal minister. A Spirit-filled Christian, she was blessed with several of the gifts of the Holy Spirit and was able to lead many lost souls to Jesus Christ, and prayed for healing of the sick throughout Northeast Ohio. Mary was also a licensed Christian counselor and attended many seminars at Oral Roberts University and West Virginia College.
Mary and her husband Robert own and operated Super Tread Tire Services located in Conneaut, Ohio for the last 41 years. They have been married for 53 loving years. They were married on April 28, 1953 in Burton, Ohio at the Assembly of God Church.
Mary is survived by her husband and three children; David John Woodring of Conneaut, Kathryn Ann Ingram of Conneaut and Janet Lee Kunes of Saybrook; six grandchildren, Kasha Dupus presently serving her country in Iraq, Bobby Woodring of Ashtabula, Kristy Woodring of Sanford, Florida and Jonathan Woodring also serving his country and stationed in Alaska, Gregg Kunes of Columbus and Jennifer Kunes a student of Bowling Green State University; one great grandchild, Alyssa Osinga of Sanford, Florida; a sister, Veda of Garrettsville and five brothers, French of Dayton, Enoch of Garrettsville, Timothy of Palm Springs, California, Kenneth of Spokane, Washington and Harold of Garrettsville. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Norma of Garrettsville and her brother, Robert of Los Angeles, California.
Funeral services will be Saturday (Aug. 19th) at 11:00 AM at the County Line Free Pentecostal Church, 3814 North County Line Rd. Geneva, Ohio with Rev. Herman York officiating. Burial will be in Saybrook Twp Cemetery.
Calling hours will be Friday (Aug. 18th) from 6 to 8 PM at the Geneva Home of Fleming & Billman Funeral Directors, 323 South Broadway, Geneva and from 10:00 AM until the time of service at the church on Saturday. Memorial contributions can be made to the County Line Free Pentecostal Church.

Boneita C. Topper

Boneita C. Topper, 85 of S. Chestnut St. Jefferson, Ohio died Monday (Aug. 14th) at her home surrounded by her family. Bonnie was born June 3, 1921 in Jefferson the daughter of Cyrus and Ella (Dodrill) Cowger and has been a lifetime area resident.
She married the love of her life, Robert C. Topper on Feb. 9, 1939. Together they enjoyed traveling, particularly to New Orleans, membership in the Ashtabula Dancing Club, dining club, fishing and listening to big band music. Bonnie also loved growing roses, knitting, crocheting, crossword puzzles and cruising around town in her little red Fiat convertible. Mrs. Topper truly enjoyed her many years spent working as a teller for Jefferson Banking Co and later Ameritrust Bank until her retirement in the early 1980’s. Following her retirement she was a honorary employee of the Jefferson License Bureau in Jefferson helping her daughter.
She was an active member and Past Matron of the Sunshine Chapter Order of Eastern Star.
Surviving her are two daughters, Jeanne M. (David) Lombardo of Leroy Twp and Carol M. (Jack) Maylish of Jefferson; nine grandchildren, Diana (Jim) Bruening, David (Patti) Lombardo, Lisanne (Vince) Santon, Nina (Jim) Lombardo-Mylott, Laurie (Frank) Kogovsek, John (Cathy) Maylish, Joseph Maylish, Marie Maylish and Andrew Maylish; twelve Great-grandchildren; Nichole Knaus, David Knaus, DJ Lombardo, Michael Lombardo, Jeff Santon, Tom Santon, Mike Santon, Rob Santon, Nicholas Kogovsek, Jennifer Kogovsek, Tyler Maylish and Brandon Maylish; two great great grandchildren, Dominic Figuera and Makayla Santon; a brother-in-law, Jack (Marie) Topper.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 1999; a granddaughter, Jacqueline M. Maylish; a grandson, Michael Lombardo; three sisters, Gladys Richcreek, Glenna Stasny and Marilyn Doton and a brother, Arlie Cowger.
Boneita Topper was an extraordinary woman of strength, humor and integrity; she will be deeply missed by the so very many people whose lives she had touched.
Funeral services will be Friday (Aug. 18th) at 11:00 AM at the Jefferson Home of Fleming & Billman Funeral Directors, Inc. 49 West Jefferson St. Jefferson with Rev. Gordon Emerson officiating. Burial will be in Oakdale Cemetery in Jefferson.
Calling hours will be Thursday (Aug. 17th) from 5 to 8 PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the Jacqueline M. Maylish Memorial Scholarship Fund or to Hospice of the Western Reserve. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Jose M Pedraza
Thursday, August 10th, 2006
Jose M. Pedraza, 63 of Woodlawn St. Geneva died Monday (August 7ht) at his home. He was born July 25, 1943 in Puerto Rico the son of Guillermo and Lucia (DelValle) Pedraza.
He had worked Cottage Gardens in Lake County..
Surviving him are his companion, Linda Pedraza; sister, Carmen Rodriguez of Geneva; sister, Guillermina Pedraza of Cleveland and brothers and sister, Alfred, Ronald, Richard, William Pedraza and Darlene Pedraza of Lorain, Ohio.
Funeral services will be Monday (August 14th) at 11:00 AM at Geneva Home of Fleming & Billman Funeral Directors, 323 South Broadway, Geneva with Father Melvin Rusnak of the Assumption Church of Geneva officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery in Cleveland, Ohio.
Calling hours will be Sunday (August 13th) from 3 to 5 PM at the funeral home.

James E. Brown
Thursday, August 10th, 2006
James E. Brown, 76 of W. Main St. Geneva died Tuesday (August 8th) at Rae Ann Nursing home in Geneva. He wa born December 16, 1929 in Ashtabula the son of Jesse K. and Sarah (Haskell) Brown and has been a lifetime area resident.
He is survived by several nieces and nephews and many friends in the Geneva area. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, Clyde and Earl.
Graveside services will be Tuesday (august 15th) at 10:00 AM at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery on Route #84 in Geneva with Rev. James Walker of the Peoples Church officiating.
The Geneva home of Fleming & Billman Funeral Directors, 323 South Broadway Geneva is in charge of arrangements.

Ruth E. Huston
Thursday, August 10th, 2006
Ruth E. Huston, 80, W. Walnut St., Jefferson, died late Wednesday evening in the emergency room at the Ashtabula Co. Medical Center.
She was born May 21, 1926 in Ashtabula, the daughter of Clarence L. & Katherine J. (Mann) Shuart, Sr. and has lived in Ashtabula Co. all of her life, living in Jefferson since 1947. She was married to Calvin L. “Cal” Huston on May 15, 1947 at the East Side Presbyterian Church. Mrs. Huston worked for many years at the Jefferson Clothes Line & at Steven’s Coin Laundry.
She was a member of the Jefferson United Methodist Church. She was also an avid fan of Jefferson Area High School Football, Basketball, Track & Wrestling. She loved being with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include two children, Kathy J. (Scott) Camp of Williamsfield Twp. & Linda M. Huston of Jefferson, three grandchildren, Cindy, Debbie & Judy, seven great-grandchildren, L. J., Ryan, Kasey, Brandon, Jordan, Heidi & Brittany, a sister, Dorothy Smith of California, four nephews and a niece.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her step-father, Eddie Kujanpaa, her husband, Cal Huston in 1996, a daughter, Joanne R. Huston in 1978, a brother, Clarence L. Shuart, Jr. & a great-granddaughter, Angel.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 1:00 P. M. at the Jefferson Home of Fleming & Billman Funeral Directors, 49 W. Jefferson St., Jefferson, with Rick Havens officiating. Burial will be in Oakdale Cemetery.
Visitation will be Saturday from 11:00 A. M. to 1:00 P. M. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Jefferson Area High School Athletic Boosters, 125 S. Poplar St., Jefferson, OH 44047, envelopes will also be at the funeral home.

Charles F. Dorner
Monday, August 7th, 2006
Charles F. Dorner, 76 of West St. Geneva died Sunday (Aug. 6th) at University Hospitals of Geneva. He was born September 6, 1929 in Cleveland, Ohio the son of Charles and Ethel (Demeter) Dorner and has lived in the Geneva area since 1998.
He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict serving in the Army.
He was employed with LTV Steel Company in Cleveland until his retirement in 1981.
Surviving him are his son Charles Dorner, Jr. of Cleveland; a daughter, Shirley (Jim) Scholleart of Geneva-on-the-Lake and a brother, Lloyd Dorner of Middleburg Hts. Ohio. He was preceded in death by his parents and by his wife, Geraldine Dorner in 1976.>p> Calling hours will be Thursday (August 10th) from 6 to 8 PM at the Geneva Home of Fleming & Billman Funeral Directors, 323 South Broadway, Geneva. Merlin M. Mead
Monday, August 7th, 2006
Merlin Mills Mead, 80, beloved husband, father and grandfather died peacefully at his home on Sanborn Rd. surrounded by his family on Sunday (August 6th).
He was born October 4, 1925 in Cherry Valley, Ohio the eldest son of Myrlen L. and Winifred (Mills) Mead and had been a lifetime resident of Ashtabula County. He graduated from New Lyme Deming High School in 1943. A veteran of the US Army, he served during World War II and its aftermath, taking part in the occupation of Japan and The Philippines.
He was employed for 22 years as a crane mechanic for Union Carbide Corp. (Elkem Metals) until 1969 when he became a Staffman for the United Steel Workers of America Union, servicing local unions in Ashtabula, Lake, Mahoning and Trumbull Counties. He retired in 1987.
Mr. Mead was actively involved in many community organizations. He was a member of Saybrook Grange #1739 serving as Master, Overseer and Legislative agent. He was the Legislative Agent for the County Pomona Grange and for several years he and his wife were delegates to the State Grange Convention representing Ashtabula County. He was a member of the National Grange.
Merlin was a 56 year member of the Ashtabula First United Methodist Church. He was also a member of the Ashtabula County Historical Society; Ashtabula County Covered Bridge Festival; Sam Wharram Nature Club; American Legion: and was serving as the current president of Ashtabula County Mended Hearts Society. He belonged to the Steelworkers Organization of Active Retirees; AFL-CIO Ashtabula County Council: and was secretary of the Union Carbide Retirees and President of the former USWA Local 3081. Mr. Mead was an active member of the Democratic Party.
He was an avid photographer and was the family archivist. Merlin thrived on friendships and maintained lifelong connections with his numerous acquaintances from all over the country. One of his passions was keeping in touch with and visiting his many friends and family members during his travels over the years.
Surviving him are his devoted wife of 56 years, Leah (Thomas) whom he married June 2, 1950; two children, John C. (Carol) Mead of Ashtabula; Deborah (Tom)Owens of Woodbury, MN; brothers, Maurice (Beverly) Of Andover, Maynard (Marvel) of Orwell, Rev. Millard (Marilyn) of Bucyrus, Ohio, Leonard (Florence) of Andover; a sister, Myrna (Richard) Walish of Milton, Florida and his three “world’s greatest grandchildren”, Leah (Andrew) Calvin of Minneapolis, MN; William Owens and Elizabeth Owens of Woodbury, MN; as well as 12 nieces and nephews. He was preceded by his parents.
Funeral services will be Thursday (August 10th) at 11:00 AM at the Ashtabula First United Methodist Church, 4506 Elm Ave. Ashtabula with Rev. John Germaine and Rev. Millard Mead officiating. Graveside services will be on Thursday at 2:00 PM at Cherry Valley Cemetery on Route #6 Cherry Valley, Ohio with Geneva VFW Post 6846 conducting military rites.
Calling hours will be Wednesday (Aug. 9th) from 2 to 4 and from 7 to 9 at the Ashtabula Home of Fleming & Billman Funeral Directors, 526 W. Prospect Rd. Ashtabula with a Saybrook Grange service at 8:45 PM.
It is the family’s wish that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made in Merlin’s memory to any of the following: The Ashtabula First United Methodist Church, Ashtabula County Mended Hearts Society, inc; the Saybrook Grange or to Hospice of the Western Reserve.
