William J. "Bill" Mann, Sr.
Monday, June 18th, 2007
William J. “Bill” Mann, Sr., 64, St. Rt. 193, Dorset, died Sunday afternoon at the St. Joseph Andover Emergency Room following complication from heart surgery.
He was born October 2, 1942 in Pierpont, the son of the late John H. & Theodora (Spessard) Mann and has been a resident of Pierpont & Dorset Townships all of his life. Mr. Mann was married to Joyce M. Taggart on June 26, 1965 in Jefferson. He was a 30 year employee of the Ashtabula Co. Highway Dept., retiring in 1999.
He attended the Kelloggsville Church of the Nazarene, was active with the Dorset Volunteer Fire Dept., enjoyed archery hunting, traveling, camping and spending time with family and friends.
Survivors include his wife, Joyce, two children, William J. Mann, Jr. & Robin S. (Craig) Pavolko, both of Dorset, a grandson, William J. Mann, III, a brother, Larry V. Mann of Rock Creek, two sisters, Carol S. (Bob) Pounds of Dover & Alice A. (Bob) McNutt of Prosperity, SC & several nieces & nephews.
Funeral services will be Thursday at 1:00 P. M. at the Jefferson Home of the Fleming & Billman Funeral Directors, 49 W. Jefferson St., Jefferson, with the Rev. Jerry Webb of the Kelloggsville Church of the Nazarene officiating. Burial will be in Dorset Cemetery.
Calling hours will be held Wednesday from 6-8 P. M. & Thursday from 12-1 P. M. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be directed to the family, in care of Joyce Mann, P. O. Box 53, Dorset, OH 44032.

Clifford Foltz
Saturday, June 16th, 2007
Clifford L. “Bud” Foltz, 79, Ashtabula, died Saturday evening in the Hospice Unit at the Ashtabula Co. Medical Center.
He was born January 10, 1928 in New Lyme Twp., the son of Walter A. & Dora M. (Hinkle) Foltz and has lived in Ashtabula Co. all of his life. Mr. Foltz was a veteran of the U. S. Navy. He was married to Donna H. (Root) Lightner on March 6, 1981 at the Saybrook United Methodist Church. Mr. Foltz was a realtor and broker for the Miller Reality Co. and Lake Erie Reality, retiring in 1990.
Mr. Foltz attended the Pentecostal Church of God, was active in golf leagues at Geneva-on-the-Lake Golf Course, coached little league in his earlier years, also enjoyed to bowl and was an all around sports enthusiast, with a special interest in the Cleveland Indians.
Survivors include his wife, Donna, six children, Virginia M. Foltz & Rickey L. Foltz, both of Palm Beach, FL, Monte R. (Dee) Foltz of Ashtabula, Kathleen A. (Tom) Soini of Euclid, Clifford L. Foltz, Jr. of Port St. Lucie, FL & John M. (Joan) Lightner of Jefferson, 12 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, many nieces & nephews, a brother, Danny Foltz and his companion & pet dog, Rocky.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Norma Jean Foltz, sisters, Blanche in childhood, Mary Andrea & Betty Green and brothers, Wilber, Ralph & Charles Foltz.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 10:00 A.M. at the Ashtabula Home of the Fleming & Billman Funeral Directors, 526 W. Prospect Rd., Ashtabula with Rev. Tom McCain, associate pastor at Pentecostal Church of God officiating. Entombment will be in Greenlawn Memory Gardens where Geneva Post #6846 of the VFW will provide full military honors.
Calling hours will be held Wednesday from 6-9 P. M. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Animal Protective League, 5970 Green Rd., Kingsville, OH 44048 or to Hospice of the Western Reserve, 1166 Lake Ave., Ashtabula, OH 44004, envelopes will also be at the funeral home.

Rosalie M. Shreve
Wednesday, June 13th, 2007
Rosalie M. Shreve, 79, Trautman Rd., Colebrook Twp., died Wednesday afternoon at her residence under hospice care.
She was born August 28, 1927 in Williamsfield Twp., the daughter of Fred & Hazel Thompson and has been an Ashtabula County resident all of her life. She was married to Paul A. Shreve on September 24, 1960 in Cherry Valley Twp.
She was a member of the Cherry Valley Church of the Nazarene, she loved reading her Bible, doing ceramics and craft work, spending time with family and also did volunteer work at the Jefferson Senior Center.
Survivors include eight children, Keith S. Burgard of Jefferson, Lorna L. Burgard of Iona, MI, Ruth L. Gregory of Winston-Salem, NC, James A. Shreve of Jefferson, Andy P. Shreve of Andover, Robert L. Shreve of Colebrook Twp., Joel N. Shreve of New Lyme Twp. & Sandra J. Dudley of New Philadelphia, 34 grandchildren, 57 great-grandchildren & one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Paul in1987, two sons, Arthur & David Shreve, a grandson, David Shreve and two brothers, Clarence & Lewis Thompson.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2:30 P. M. at the Jefferson Home of the Fleming & Billman Funeral Directors, 49 W. Jefferson St., Jefferson, with Pastor Buck Taylor of the Cherry Valley Church of the Nazarene officiating. Burial will be in Brownville Cemetery, New Lyme Twp.
Visitation will be Saturday from 1:30-2:30 P. M. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Cherry Valley Church of the Nazarene, 3410 U. S. Rt. 6, Andover, OH 44003, envelopes will also be at the funeral home. Guest book and obituary on line at fleming-billman.com.

Beverly J. Benson
Wednesday, June 13th, 2007
Beverly J. Benson, 84, E. Cedar St., Jefferson, died early Wednesday morning at the Jefferson Health Center where she had been a patient the past four weeks.
She was born September 20, 1922 in Ashtabula, the daughter of Jerry J. & Elva M. (Lyons) Benson and has lived in Ashtabula Co. all of her life. She attended the First Baptist Church in Jefferson. She enjoyed traveling, especially bus trips and going out to eat and loved her pets. Beverly always enjoyed telling stories and sharing the memories of the years she spent living in the Probation House when her father served as Ashtabula Co. Sheriff and Probations Officer.
She is survived by four cousins, Richard Benson of Conneaut, Jane Puffer of Kingsville Twp., Betty Goodale of Conneaut Lake, PA & Nick Kissinger of Greenville.
She was preceded in death by her parents and three cousins, Bobby Casborne, Phyllis Litwiler & Alfred Kissinger.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11:00 A. M. at the Jefferson Home of the Fleming & Billman Funeral Directors, 49 W. Jefferson St., Jefferson, with the Rev. Gordon Emerson officiating. Burial will be in Kelloggsville Cemetery.

James D. Larko, Jr.
Wednesday, June 13th, 2007
James D. Larko, Jr. 43 of Waterbury Rd. Lakewood, Ohio and former Jefferson resident died Sunday (June 10th) at his home. He was born September 26, 1963 in Lackawanna, New York the son of James D. and Theresa (DiMare) Larko, Sr.
He was a graduate of Jefferson High School and a veteran of the US Navy. He was a restaurant manager, professional bartender and waiter, hair stylist, and interior designer. He was an entertainer and showman in semi-professional theater in the Cleveland area. He enjoyed gardening, cooking and decorating. He was a great friend to a lot of people and had a heart of gold. He always had a laugh or smile for people and was a great story teller. He will be missed by family and friends.
Surviving him are his mother of Jefferson; two daughters, Candy and Cassie Larko of Massachusetts; a sister, Sharon Larko of Jefferson and a brother, Mike Larko of Bonita Springs, Florida and many friends and family. He was preceded in death by his father and by a sister, Sandy Larko.
Funeral services will be Friday (June 15th) at 12:00 Noon at the Jefferson Home of Fleming & Billman Funeral Directors, 49 West Jefferson St. Jefferson, Ohio with Rev. Stephen Wassie of St. Joseph Church in Jefferson officiating. The Geneva VFW Post # 6846 will conduct military rites at the funeral home.
Calling hours will be Friday from 10:00 AM until the time of service at the funeral home.

Rebecca Doolin
Monday, June 11th, 2007
Rebecca Doolin, 89 of Lincoln Dr. Ashtabula died Saturday (June 9th) at the Ashtabula County Medical Center. She was born May 26, 1918 in Kentucky the daughter of Charles E. and Effie T (Hunt) Deener and has lived in the Ashtabula area since the late 1950’s.
She is a member of the Marshall Baptist Church in Marshall, Indiana. She enjoyed sewing, going for rides; and spending time with her family grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Surviving her are two daughters, Vicki (Dennis) Campbell of Ashtabula and Nancy Strohl of Rockville, Indiana; six grandchildren, Tod (Sherry) Strohl, Erica (Bryan) Neese, Brandon (Michelle) Strohl, Jennifer Strohl, Aaron (Wendy) Campbell and Marcus Campbell; ten great grandchildren and two sisters, Pauline Lewis and Dollie Earl both of Marshall, Indiana. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Marcus in 1993 and by six brothers and sisters, Bernice Logston, Barbara Rusk, Charles E. Deener, Jr, Harold Deener, Jack Deener and Bill Deener.
Funeral services will be Thursday (June 14th) at 11:00 AM at the Ashtabula Home of Fleming & Billman Funeral Directors, 526 W. Prospect Rd. Ashtabula with Joyce Shellhammer of North Kingsville Presbyterian Church officiating. Burial will be in Edgewood Cemetery.
Calling hours will be Wednesday (June 13th) from 6 to 8 PM at the funeral home.

John H. Markin
Friday, June 8th, 2007
John H. Markin died Thursday, June 7th at the Jefferson Health Center following complications of a stroke. He was 87.
He was born in Ironton, OH where he attended Pedro High School. An outstanding track star and football player, his speed and versatility were unparalleled. He joined the National Guard at age 17 and later enlisted in the U. S. Navy during World War II, serving from 1941-45. He became Chief Petty Officer whose duties required him to oversee the feeding of more than 1000 officers and enlisted men aboard a transport supply ship. Upon his discharge he enlisted in the Coast Guard until 1948.
Following his discharge he was co-owner of a men’s clothing store in Virginia before moving to Ashtabula, at which time he went to work at Reliance Electric where he ran the shipping department before retiring in 1988.
Mr. Markin was an unusually generous man and he routinely helped friends, family and perfect strangers. He loved children, animals and enjoyed gardening when he was well.
He is survived by a sister, Louise Koster and a brother, Kenneth Markin, both of Ashtabula and many nieces and nephews.
There will be no funeral services or calling hours held. A memorial service will be held Thursday, July 12 at 1:00 P. M. at the First Baptist Church, 4353 Park Ave., Ashtabula, with the Rev. Doug Wright officiating. Guest book and obituary on-line at fleming-billman.com
