ALBERTA HOFFER

Alberta Louise Hoffer, 90, of McDermott, died Monday, March 27, 1995, at the Southern Ohio Medical Center, Mercy Campus. She was born April 25, 1904 in Adams County, Ohio, to the late James and Matilda Ann Cooper Roush. She was a homemaker and a member of Central Church of Christ. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Floyd F. Hoffer, who died Nov. 12, 1931, they were married in 1921; and her second husband, Alpha W. Hoffer, whom she married in Greenup, Kentucky, Jan 22, 1941, he died Feb. 8, 1990. She is survived by three daughters; Thelma Tipton of Eden Park; Dorothy Hunter, of Phoenix, AZ; Hazel Andronis, of McDermott; 13 granchildren, 35 great-grandchildren, 35 great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by two sons: Archie L. Floyd Hoffer and Ernest Hoffer; five brothers, John Roush, Harry Roush, Leslie Roush, Mack Roush and George Roush; four sisters, Mary Price, Bessie Hubbard, Irene Spark, Aloma Jones; and two daughters; Irene Hoffer and Una Jean Hoffer.

NANCY HOFFER

Nancy Louella Hoffer, 72, of Peebles, died Saturday, September 24, at Edgewood Manor Nursing Center, Greenfield. She was born January 24, 1922, at Beaver Pond in Adams County, a daughter of the late Jesse and Edna Miller Damron. Survivors include her husband, Henry Hoffer of Peebles; a son, Kelsie Hoffer of New Vienna; a daughter, Eva Hoffer of Rarden, two brothers, Walter Damron of Lees Creek and Ralph Damron of Greenfield; three sisters, Dessie Manley of Piketon, Emma Wilt of Sabina and Mary Robinson of Peebles; 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Services were held Monday at Brooke Funeral Home in Peebles with Rev. Danny Hoffer officiating and interment in New Hoffer Hill Cemetery.

OCIE HOLSINGER

Ocie Cooper Holsinger, 58, of Columbus, formerly of Friendship, died Wednesday morning at a Columbus hospital. Surviving are her husband, Gordon; two sons, Chester of Portsmouth and Eugene of Columbus; a daughter, Charlotte Mantel of Portsmouth; three brothers, Otto Cooper of Blue Creek, Clarence Cooper of Portsmouth and William Cooper of Manchester; five sisters, Irene Sowards and Loretta Moore, both of friendship, Lillie McGraw and Vada Holsinger, both of Columbus, and Rosie Webb of Portsmouth; 19 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Services are planned at 10 a.m. Saturday at Pond Run Baptist Church, with Rev. Clyde Dillow officiating, and burial in McKendree Cemetery. Friends may call at Roger W. Davis Funeral Home in West Portsmouth from 7 to 9 tonight, and anytime Friday.

WOODROW HOLSINGER

Woodrow Wilson Holsinger, 75, of West Union, died Monday, Nov. 8, 1999, at a West Union nursing center. He was born March 26, 1924, in Adams County, a son of the late Patrick and Clara Brown Holsinger. He is survived by his wife, Martha Whaley Holsinger of West Union; five sons, Robert Dale Holsinger of Manchester, Roger Holsinger, Richard Holsinger and Rick Holsinger, all of West Union, and Tim Holsinger of Seaman; four daughters, Gracie Trotter of West Union, Linda  Jones of Manchester, Judy Nichols of Peebles, and Dixie Carter of Aberdeen; two brothers, John Holsinger of West Union, and Jack Holsinger of Mansfield; a sister, Mary Hiatt of Peebles; 19 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Beam Funeral Home in West Union, with Ivan Grooms officiating, and interment in East Liberty Cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

E.E. HOLT

E.E. Holt, 93, of Honolulu, Hawaii, and Worthington, Ohio, passed away March 16 at his home. He was born in Adams County on November 12, 1901, to Oscar V. and Emma Kay Moore Holt, who preceded him in death. Also preceding him in death were his wife, Nelle Shoemaker, son Sgt. Jack E. Holt in World War II, and two brothers, John W. Holt and Esten V. Holt. A graduate of West Union High School, Mr. Holt was Superintendent of Schools at Higginsport, Georgetown, Hillsboro, Marion and Springfield and State Superintendent of Public Instruction for Ohio from 1954 to 1966. Surviving are his wife, Gleda Farrell Holt; daughter and son-in-law, Paul and Jane Hersey of Reston, Virginia; three grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. Services were Saturday, March 25, at Rutherford-Corbin Chapel, Worthington.

EDDIE HOOP

Eddie Hoop, 49, of Seaman, died Sunday, Dec. 1, 2002, at his residence. He was born in Adams County on June 16, 1953, the son of Oscar Sherwood and Nellie (Tolle) Hoop. He was co-owner and parts manager of Baxla Tractor Sales, U.S. Navy veteran of the Vietnam Era; member of the Seaman United Methodist Church; and board member of the Seaman Fall Festival. Survivors include his wife, Valerie (Baxla) Hoop; his father, Sherwood Hoop of Seaman; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Jared and Heather Hoop of Seaman and Jermeny Hoop of Seaman; two daughters, Keri Hoop and Kristi Hoop, both of Seaman; one grandson, Hunter Hoop; one brother and sister-in-law, Ray and Linda Hoop of Columbus; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Ruth and Richard Young of Seaman and Mary and Norman  Woods of Cincinnati; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his mother, Nellie Hoop. Services will be held at 1 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 4, at the Seaman United Methodist Church with the Rev. Ken  Johnson and the Rev. Steve Zinger officiating. Burial will follow at the Mt. Leigh Cemetery with military graveside rites conducted by the Adams County Honor Guard. Memorials may be made to the Hospice of Hope, 1 McDonald Parkway, Maysville KY 41056.

OLA HOUSER

Ola E. Houser, daughter of Henry and Mollie Houser, died Jan. 17, 1895, age 2 mo. and 1 day. Funeral services by Rev. J. C. Cupp at the A.U. Church at White Oak, burial in Cedar Mills Cemetery.

CALVIN HOWARD

Calvin C. Howard, 69, of West Union, died Tuesday, May 24, at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center. Mr. Howard was born December 4, 1924, at Otway, the son of the late Lee and Pearl Morris Howard. He was a World War II U.S. Navy veteran with 23 years service. Surviving are his wife, Mary L. Collins Howard of West Union; one son, Gary Howard of Gahana; one daughter; Linda Howard of Portland, Oregon; a brother, Dwight Howard of Shreveport,  Louisiana; five sisters, Mary Coffman of Williamstown, West Virginia, Carlos Starkey of Marietta, Carol Nichols of Columbus, Ruth Bucy of Waverly and Darlene Thompson of McDermott. Funeral services were held Saturday, May 28, at the Ellis-Beam Funeral Home in West Union, Rev. Thomas Brown officiating. Burial was in the Cedar Hill Cemetery at Newark. Military services were conducted by the Adams County Honor Guard.
