Thomas R. Driscoll, Jr.
December 8, 1949 - January 4, 2009

Thomas Regis Driscoll, Jr. 59 of Saybrook Township died Jan. 4, 2009 following a lengthy illness at his home. He was born Dec. 8, 1949 in the Pittsburg area the son of the late Thomas Regis and Rosemarie (Liberatore) Driscoll.
Mr. Driscoll attended Catholic schools, including Serra Catholic High School in McKeesport. He earned his bachelor’s degree in business from Point Park College of Pittsburgh.
Mr. Driscoll was the manager of the Shoe Department at the Ashtabula Mall for 14 years. Prior to that he was the manager of Pic-Way Shoe Mart at the Ashtabula Plaza.
His wife, Linda Driscoll said, “He Loved flower gardening. He also like to tinker with wood. He built bird houses, picture frames and mailboxes.” Mr. Driscoll was a roller coaster enthusiast. ”There wasn’t a coaster he would not ride.” He was a car enthusiast as well and he really loved his red 1992 Pontiac Trans AM GTA. He enjoyed riding this red Trans AM on the weekends to Eddie’s Grill at Geneva-on-the-Lake.
For a number of years the Driscolls operated Tall Tree Acres Horse Farm in Saybrook Township. They bred and raised Registered American Quarter Horses and Paints. Their horses won numerous awards at fairs and local horse shows.
Besides his wife, he is survived by four brothers, Fran Driscoll, Kevin Driscoll, Lou Driscoll and John Driscoll; and two sisters, Jackie Ferguson and Colleen Driscoll.
A memorial service will be at the First Christian Church, 6920 Austinburg Rd. Ashtabula on Friday (Jan. 9th) at 3:00 PM with the Rev. Richard Elwell officiating. Flowers can be sent to the church.
Arrangements are being handled by Fleming & Billman Funeral Directors, Inc. 526 West Prospect Rd. Ashtabula, Ohio .

Gladys M. Hamilton
February 19, 1917 - January 6, 2009

Gladys M. Hamilton, age 91, Heritage Sq., Jefferson, died early Tuesday morning at the Ashtabula Co. Medical Center where she had been a patient the past week.
She was born February 19, 1917 in Denmark Twp., the daughter of James F. & Betty A. (Paulson) Hamilton and has lived in Denmark Twp. & Jefferson all of her life. Miss Hamilton received her Bachelor of Arts Degree from Baldwin Wallace College and her Bachelor of Science Degree from Kent State University. She was a teacher in the Jefferson Area School System for 32 years, retiring in 1974. She started teaching second grade and for most of those years taught fifth grade.
Miss Hamilton was a member of the Jefferson United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women and was a volunteer at the Ashtabula Co. Medical Center.
Survivors include two sisters, Florence E. Hamilton of Ashtabula & Caroline L. Hazen of Deland, FL, a niece, Kathy (John) Simon of Jefferson and two nephews, Ken (Lucelia) Hamilton of Petersboro, UT & Keith (Gayle) Hamilton of Harlingen, TX.
She was preceded in death by her parents, five sisters, Nora, Edith, C. Lucille & Helen A. Hamilton & Bessie M. Weeks and two brothers, Clarence & J. Arthur Hamilton.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 P. M. Saturday at the Jefferson Home of the Fleming & Billman Funeral Directors, 49 W. Jefferson St., Jefferson, with the Rev. Gordon Emerson officiating. Private burial will be in Oakdale Cemetery.
Visitation will be Saturday from 11-12 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Jefferson United Methodist Church Building Fund, 125 E. Jefferson St., Jefferson, OH 44047. Guest register book and obituary on-line at fleming-billman.com.

Harold D. Helfer
November 18, 1918 - January 6, 2009

Harold D. Helfer, age 90, SE 113th St., Belleview, FL, died early Tuesday morning at his residence.
He was born November 18, 1918 in Lipsic, OH, the son of Lester & Effie (Warren) Helfer and lived in the Andover, OH area most of his life, living in Belleview the past 26 years. Mr. Helfer was married to Clover E. Sparling on July 5, 1939.
Mr. Helfer farmed in Richmond Twp. more than 45 years, retiring in 1982. He also drove a school bus for the Pymatuning Valley School System for 17 years. He was one of the original six firemen to start the Pierpont Volunteer Fire Dept. in Pierpont, OH. He worked for Nelson Pinney and was the driver to dump the first load of slag into Lake Erie to build Pinney Dock.
Mr. Helfer was a member of the Belleview Lions Club and former member of the Richfield Grange. He enjoyed big game hunting in British Columbia and the Yukon and enjoyed traveling and was an avid Pymatuning Valley High School sports fan.
Survivors include three children, Everett (Betty) Helfer & Gary (Sara) Helfer, both of Jefferson and Beth Helfer of Belleview, FL, four grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, a sister, Marguerite Andelin of Venice, FL and two very close friends whom considered him their father, Brenda Carmichael & Diane (Norm) Geigle, both of Wall, SD.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Clover in 1992 and a sister, Mildred Weir.
Memorial services will be held Saturday, January 17, 2009 at the Pierpont Presbyterian Church, 71 St. Rt.7, Pierpont. Burial of ashes will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Pierpont. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Jeffrey B. Meddock Memorial Scholarship Fund at P. V. High School, c/o Pat Smith, 5571 St. Rt. 6, P. O. Box 1180, Andover, OH 44003 or to Florida Palliative Home Care of lake, Marion & Sumter Counties, 9505 SW 110th St., Ocala, FL 34481. Martha J. Bryan
February 22, 1928 - January 3, 2009

Martha J. Bryan, 80 of Hawthorne Dr. Painesville and former Ashtabula resident died Saturday (Jan. 3rd) at The Lake Med Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was born February 22, 1928 in Thayer, Illinois the daughter of William and Dorothy (Phillips) Hopson.
She married Joseph C. Bryan, Sr. on August 2, 2008. She is a member of the Willoughby Eagles and the Eastlake Senior Citizens Center. She enjoyed crocheting, the outdoors and nature and she collected horse figurines.
Surviving her is her son, Joseph C. (Thelma) Bryan, Jr. of Jefferson; a daughter, Carol Harton of Geneva; a daughter-in-law, Rose Bryan of Painesville; eight grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren, eleven great-great-grandchildren and two sisters, Catherine Foltz of Ashtabula and Dorothy “Dottie” Lewis of Andover. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 2003; her son, James Lee Bryan, Sr. in 2008; a sister, Wilma Sterling and two brothers, John Hopson and Albert Hopson.
Funeral services will be Wednesday (Jan. 7th) at 1:00 PM at the Ashtabula Home of Fleming & Billman Funeral Directors, 526 West Prospect Rd. Ashtabula with Pastor Dan Evans of the Ashtabula Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be in Edgewood Cemetery in Ashtabula.
Calling hours will be Wednesday from 11:00 AM to the time of service at the funeral home.

Adelene R. Cunningham
January 4, 1919 - December 31, 2008

Adelene “Addie” R. Cunningham, 89 of Austinburg, Ohio died Wednesday (Dec. 31st) at the Austinburg Rehabilitation and Nursing Center. She was born January 4, 1919 in Seville, Ohio the daughter of Albert and Anna (Mullet) Kratzer. She had been employed as Office Manager at the First United Methodist Church of Geneva and she was past president of the Altar Guild of the church. She had been a member of the Geneva Memorial Hospital Auxilliary. She enjoyed reading, bowling and volunteering at the church. Surviving her ar two daughters, Rebecca Cunningham of College Park, Maryland and Cathy Jo Cunningham of Geneva. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Asa Cunningham in 1972; four sisters, Violet Fulton, Lucille Kratzer, Evelyn Bartley and Beatrice Fulton and three brothers, Everett, Charles and Merle Kratzer; a step brother, a step sister and four half brothers and sisters. Funeral services will be Monday January 5th at 11:00 AM at the Geneva Home of Fleming & Billman Funeral Directors, 323 South Broadway, Geneva, Ohio with Rev. David Hill of the First United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Geneva. Calling hours will be Sunday (Jan. 4th) from 3 to 5 PM at the funeral home. Memorial contributions in her memory can be made to the First United Methodist Church, 89 South Broadway, Geneva, Ohio 44041.

Betty J. Dillon
August 26, 1925 - January 1, 2009

Betty J. Dillon, age 83, W. 35th St., Ashtabula, died Thursday afternoon at the Austinburg Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.
She was born August 26, 1925 in Jefferson, the daughter of Stanley & Bessie (Simmons) Talkington and has lived in this area all of her life. She was married to Edward L. Dillon on November 29, 1975 in Orwell. She was a 21 year employee of Kennametal, retiring in 1988. Mrs. Dillon enjoyed traveling, fishing and boating.
Survivors include her husband, Edward, two children, Sherry Jackson of Jefferson and Debra Priddy of Rome Twp., five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, a brother, William Talkington of Geneva and a sister, Nancy Davidson of Mentor.
At the request of the deceased, no services or calling hours will be held. Private burial will be in Oakdale Cemetery. The Jefferson Home of the Fleming & Billman Funeral Directors, 49 W. Jefferson St., Jefferson, is handing arrangements.

Wanda DeGarmo
May 23, 1926 - February 23, 2009

ASHTABULA — Wanda M. DeGarmo, age 82, died unexpectedly Monday, Feb. 23, 2009, in her home.
She was born on May 23, 1926, in Ashtabula County, the daughter of Earl and Alice (Wortman) Benjamin. A lifetime resident of the Jefferson and Ashtabula areas, she graduated from Jefferson Are High School in 1944.
Retiring in 1990, she worked for over 20 years for the Ashtabula County Welfare Department.
She is survived by her three daughters: Karen Buckley of Solon, Ohio, Kathy (Wayne) Irwin of Sparta, N.J., and Kim Horn of Aurora, Ohio; and three step-children: James DeGarmo Jr. of Texas, Fred (Donna) DeGarmo and Sara “Kathy” DeGarmo, both of Ashtabula. She has four grandchildren, seven step-grandchildren and 12 step-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 33 years, James, who died in 2005; her brother, Delmar Benjamin; and sisters, Vesta Allen and Elma Burgett; as well as her grandsons, David Buzzard and Bert DeGarmo.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, Feb. 28th, at 10 a.m. in the Ashtabula Home of the FLEMING & BILLMAN FUNERAL DIRECTORS, INC., 526 W. Prospect Road, Ashtabula, Ohio, with the Fr. Howard Humphrey, of St. Martins Episcopal Church of Chagrin Falls, officiating.
Calling Hour will be held from 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday morning, prior to the service, at the Funeral Home.
