GENEVA — Joshua R. Ankney, age 22, died Wednesday Feb. 25, 2009, at UH-Conneaut Medical Center, following complications from injuries sustained in an ATV accident on Nov. 30, 2008.
He was born in Cleveland, Ohio, on April 30, 1986, the son of Samuel and Belva (Kaufman) Ankney.
Joshua was a hard working mechanic and painter. He was very active with 4-H of Ashtabula County and was also a member of the Boy Scouts when he was growing up.
He is survived by his parents; mother, Belva (Ted Wojtonek) of Trumbull and father, Samuel of Defiance, Ohio; his brother, Joseph of Defiance; his maternal grandfather, F. Wallace Kaufman of Trumbull; paternal grandmother, Barbara Ankney of Paulding, Ohio; and step-brothers, Ted and Ken Wojtonek.
He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Elsie R. Kaufman in 1997; and grandfather, Donald Ankney in 1998.
Funeral Services will be held 1 p.m. on Sunday, March 1, 2009, at the Geneva Home of the FLEMING & BILLMAN FUNERAL DIRECTORS, INC., 323 S. Broadway.
Calling Hours will be held on Sunday from 11 a.m. until the time of the service.
Memorial contributions can be made to the family.
Envelopes will be available at the Funeral Home.

Mary Anderson Sherrange White
April 5, 1919 - February 25, 2009
Services: at 12:00 AM
Born April 5, 1919, in Erie, Pa., she was the daughter of Henry and Elsie (Hulbert) Anderson.
She graduated from Academy High of Erie in 1937, and received her B.S. in Education in 1941 from The State Teachers College, Edinboro, Pa. She was married to Lawrence Sherrange in 1944 and they lived in North East, Pa., where they had two daughters.
After leaving North East, she lived in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., Fern Creek, Ky., and Erie, Pa.
In 1957, Mary accepted a position with Jefferson Area Local Schools. “Mrs. Sherrange” taught until 1964, when she married Floyd White of White’s Bakery. Mrs. White continued teaching 3rd grade at the Jefferson Elementary School until her retirement in 1985.
Mary was a member of the Jefferson First Congregational Church, Ohio Eastern Star (Sunshine Chapter), DART (Division of Active Retired Teachers), ORTA (Ohio Retired Teachers Assoc.), ACRTA (Ashtabula County Retired Teachers Assoc.) and the Rebekah Lodge of Dorset.
She enjoyed shopping, traveling, gardening, reading and doing puzzles.
Survivors include her daughters, Suzanne (William) McCune and Leslie (Fred) Trautlein, both of Jefferson, Ohio; four granddaughters, Melissa (Shamus) Walters of Galloway, Ohio, Suzanne (Thomas) Saccomanno of Medford, N.J., Melinda (Scott) Oswiecinski of Dublin, Ohio, and Sara (Robert) Waite of Southampton, N.J.; as well as five great-grandchildren, Taven and Caden Walters, Nicholas and Samuel Saccomanno, and Abigail Waite.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Leslie; and her husbands, Lawrence Sherrange and Floyd White.
At her request, no calling hours will be observed.
A Memorial Service/Celebration of Life will be held at a later date at the First Congregational Church of Jefferson.
The family would like to express their appreciation to Ashtabula Regional Home Health and to The Hospice of the Western Reserve for their exceptional care provided to Mary.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in her name and sent to the First Congregational Church of Jefferson Memorial Fund or to the Charity of your choice.
The Jefferson Home of the FLEMING & BILLMAN FUNERAL DIRECTORS, INC., 49 W. Jefferson St., Jefferson, Ohio, is handling the arrangement for the family.

James L. Patrick
December 29, 1957 - February 27, 2009

James Lee Patrick, 51, of Jefferson, died Friday afternoon at the Ashtabula Co. Medical Center Emergency Room.
He was born December 29, 1957 in Louisa, Ky., the son of Leonard & Phyllis (Fannin) Patrick and has lived in this area since 2005 moving here from Arizona. He was a graduate of Dysart High School in Arizona.
After graduation he served in the U.S. Navy from 1976-1979 with a honorable discharge.
He worked for the Ohio Park System. He enjoyed fishing, boating, racing, cooking and playing the guitar.
He married Melissa VanMeter on February 9, 2007, beside his wife he is survived by his mother, Phyllis of Jefferson, two children, James G. & Timothy A. Patrick of Wellsville, four sisters, Shelia (Mike) Michaels, Sandra (Robert) Kelly of Kentucky, Patty (Brad) McNeil, Tammy(Don Robertson) Patrick of Arizona, two brothers, Leonard(Darlene) Patrick of Kentucky and Jeff (Jennifer) Patrick of Williamsfield.
He was preceded in death by his father and a sister Pamela Patrick.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, March 6 from 2-4 and 6-8 with a service to follow at 8:00 P.M. at the Jefferson home of the Fleming & Billman Funeral Directors, 49 W. Jefferson St., Jefferson, Ohio.

Marguerite E. Doerge-Foster
November 6, 1918 - February 26, 2009

JEFFERSON – Marguerite “Maggie” Ellen Doerge-Foster, 90, died Wednesday February 26, 2009 in the Jefferson Health Care Center where she had been a resident since 2005.
She was born on November 6, 1918 in Jefferson, Ohio the daughter of Hugh E. and Lilah (Sheldon) Goodale.
She graduated from Jefferson High School in 1937.
She worked for the Ashtabula Co. Auditors office for over 27 years; she last held the position of Deputy Auditor until her retirement in 1972.
She was a member of the First Congregational Church of Christ in Jefferson; the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Jefferson Grange. Her hobbies included sewing, needle point and collecting shells.
She is survived by a sister Helen (Edward) Ely of Deland, FL.; sister-in-law Hildegard Goodale of Jefferson, Oh.; two grandsons: Timothy Shawn (Lara) Hart and Patrick Hart of Florida; two great-grandsons and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her former husband Harry Doerge, her husband Harold Foster, her daughter Marguerite “Peggy” M. (Doerge) Hart, sister and brother-in-law Hazel and Charles Strausser; her brother John F. Goodale and a step-son Robert Foster.
At her request no calling hours will be held.
Graveside services will be held on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. in Oakdale Cemetery, Jefferson, Oh.
Pastor Jim Link of the First Congregational united Church of Christ will officiate the services.

Sara L. Barger
August 31, 1917 - February 21, 2009

Sara L. “Sally” Barger, age 91, W. Satin St., Jefferson afternoon in the Hospice Unit at the Ashtabula Co. Medical Center.
She was born August 31, 1917, the youngest of five children and grew up on a farm in Zelienople, PA.
She was a 1940 graduate of Geneva College and took a high school business teaching position in Jefferson.
She was married to W. A. “Ted” Barger on March 21, 1942 in Zelienople, PA and traveled with him after he was drafted for World War II.
After the war, they returned to Jefferson to make it their home.
She was a substitute teacher in the Jefferson School System from 1956-1972.
She became the first principal at South ridge Christian Academy in 1973 and held that position for seven years.
She was active in her community and schools, helping to begin a Kindergarten, PTA and Girl Scouts.
She was a member of the Bethel Bible Church where she was a Sunday school teacher and held a Bible study in her home.
Mrs. Barger was committed to making this country better by being involved in politics.
She was a Republican Central Committee Woman for several years and served as a precinct chairman.
She also started and led a Republican Woman’s Club in Ashtabula County.
She was generous with her time, always thinking of what she could do for others.
Survivors include three children, Judy E. Maloney of Jefferson, Glen A. Barger of Voorhees, NJ & Jean B. (Jonathan) Freeman of Dorset Twp. and eight grandchildren, Adam, Nathan, Rachel & Andrew Freeman and Sara, Rob, Tim & Mike Barger.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence & Sadie (Crea) Ifft, her husband Ted in 1980, a sister, Lida Ford and three brothers, Roy, John & Ralph Ifft.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P. M. Wednesday at the Jefferson Home of the Fleming & Billman Funeral Directors, 49 W. Jefferson St., Jefferson, with Pastor Joe Laing of Bethel Bible Church officiating. Burial will be in Oakdale Cemetery.
Calling hours will be held Tuesday from 7-9 P. M. and Wednesday from 12-2 P. M. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Bethel Bible Church Building Fund, 571 Goodale Rd., Jefferson, OH 44047, envelopes will also be at the funeral home.

Phyllis A. Capuano
April 25, 1926 - February 20, 2009
Services: February 24th, 2009 at 2:30 PM
Phyllis A. Capuano, 82 of Harmon Rd. Ashtabula passed on to a better life on Friday (Feb. 20th) at the Arlington Court Skilled Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Upper Arlington, Ohio. She was born April 25, 1926 in South Hampton England the daughter of Fred and Phyllis (Cooper) Purchase.
Phyllis was a graduate of Mt. Pleasant School for girls at the early age of 15.
After graduating High School she went into the service for the United States Government, at the age of 16, in South Hampton England, where she was a Postal Exchange worker. That is where she met the love of her life and married James V. Capuano, Jr.
They were married 49 years before he died in August 1994.
Phyllis was a 35 year member of Anita Garibaldi Lodge and also an officer.
She enjoyed the outdoors, was a member of Flower Clubs and loved gardening.
She was especially proud of her Rose Garden.
She and her husband loved to play BINGO and she also enjoyed riding horses.
Phyllis loved writing letters and sending cards, for every occasion, to everyone she knew.
Phyllis helped organize and start the British War Brides, who were all married to Americans during World War II and left England to come to America to wait for their husbands at War’s end. After the war, the British Brides would meet every year for a dinner and party, which Phyllis loved.
She was a member of Mt Carmel Church.
She was a devote Catholic, who highly respected her religion.
She was employed by Carlisle’s Department Store where she retired after 30 years of service and very proud of her career.
Out of everything in her later years, she enjoyed her grandchildren’s visits the most.
Surviving her are her four children, Rosalie (David) Ensman of Las Vegas, Nevada, Vincent (Donna) Capuano of Ashtabula, Rebecca (Joseph) Castorano of Columbus and James (Sally) Capuano of Ashtabula; nine grandchildren, Scott Ensman. Eric Ensman, Jason Ensman, Kristi Valenzuella, Jennifer Puffer, Lyndsay Severino, Mathew Baldwin, Vincent Castorano, and Jamealyn Capuano and a Great Grandchild, Ava Valenzuella. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and a sister, Dorothy Oakes. A mass of Christian burial will be Tuesday (Feb. 24th) at 2:30 PM at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, 1200 East 21st St. Ashtabula with Rev. Father Joseph Ruggieri officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery.
Calling hours will be Monday (Feb. 23rd) from 4 to 7 PM at the Ashtabula Home of Fleming & Billman Funeral Directors, 526 West Prospect Rd. Ashtabula.
The family would like to send a special Thank You to Arlington Court Nursing Home, Upper Arlington, Ohio and Home Reach Hospice, Columbus, Ohio for making Phyllis comfortable during her passing on.
