ELIZABETH A. (ROBERTS) BRYAN, 91, formerly of Wayne Hays Towers, Martins Ferry, Ohio, died Saturday, December 21, 2002 at Heartland of Lansing Care Center, Lansing, Ohio.
Elizabeth was born in Maynard, Ohio on Friday October 13, 1911, a daughter of the late Mervin A. and Mary A. (Penman) Roberts.
She was a retired pharmacy clerk at East Ohio Regional Hospital, Martins Ferry.
She was a member of the East Ohio Regional Hospital Auxiliary.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Robert D. Bryan; one brother, Wilbur Roberts and one sister, Edna Ewers.
Surviving are one son, Robert M. Bryan and his wif Carol of Eustis, Florida; one daughter, Louise A. Henderson, Winter Springs, Florida; one sister, Evelyn Haught, Maynard, Ohio; four grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Funeral services and interment in Riverview Cemetery, Martins Ferry, Ohio, Monday, December 30, 2002.
Memorial donations may be made to the East Ohio Regional Hospital Building Fund, 90 N. 4th Street, Martins Ferry, Ohio 43935.

WANDA J. BAILER
WANDA J. BAILER, 82, formerly of Martins Ferry, Ohio died Friday, December 20, 2002, at Wheeling Hospital, Wheeling, W. Va.
She was born in Maynard, Ohio on Monday, April 26, 1920, a daughter of the late Michael and Eva (Czernik) Bailer.
She was a retired employee at Wheeling Watershed Commission, Wheeling, W. Va.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by three brothers, Michael, Peter and Andrew Bailer.
Surviving are three sisters, Helen Theil, Martins Ferry, Ohio; Stella Syty, Cheektowaga, N. Y. and Mary Mitchell, Pleasant Grove, Ohio.
Funeral services were held December 23, 2002 with Dr. Bill Lawrence officiating. Interment followed in St. Mary's Cemetery, Martins Ferry, Ohio.
Memorial contributions may be made to Park Health Center, 100 Pine Ave. St. Clairsville, Ohio 43950 or 1st Presbyterian Church, So. 4th Street, Martins Ferry, Ohio 43935.

MARY C. (CASS) DORSEY
MARY C. (CASS) DORSEY, 79, of N. 7th Street, Martins Ferry, Ohio, died Thursday, December 19, 2002 at East Ohio Regional Hospital, Martins Ferry, Ohio.
She was born in Colton, Ohio on Tuesday, March 13, 1923, a daughter of the late George and Cornelia (Sharp) Oliver.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Elmer R. Dorsey; four sisters, Evelyn Risdon, Margaret Becker, Phyllis Donahue and Donna Oliver; two brothers, Hugh and Donald Oliver.
Surviving are three daughters, JoEllen Kolvek and her husband Joseph Jr. Martins Ferry, Oh., Judith Michaels and her husband Joseph, Bridgeport, Oh., Janis Krajnyak and her husband Robert, Martins Ferry, Oh.; two sisters, Virginia J. Kramer, Martins Ferry, Oh. and Roberta Kiss, Tiltonsville, Oh.; three grandsons, Chad Boyer and his wife Shyla, Bridgeport, Oh., Michael Kolvek, Martins Ferry, Oh. and Kyle Krajnyak, Martins Ferry, Oh.; one granddaughter, Jill Tyler, Bridgeport, Oh.; two great granddaughters, Hannah and Haleigh Boyer, Bridgeport, Oh.
Funeral services were held at the funeral home Monday, December 23, 2002 at 11 A. M. with Pastor Van D. Fisher officiating.
Interment followed in Holly Memorial Gardens, Pleasant Grove, Ohio.

JOHN BARRY ELLIS
JOHN BARRY ELLIS, 59, of Wayne Hays Apts., Martins Ferry, Ohio died Wednesday, December 25, 2002, at his residence.
Barry was born in Martins Ferry, Ohio on Tuesday, December 21, 1943, a son of the late Earl M. and Elizabeth (Klubert) Ellis.
He graduated from The Pa. Gunsmith School and was employed as a master gunsmith for Shooter's. Martins Ferry, Ohio.
He previously was employed at Hanna Coal and Belmont Co. Joint Vocational School.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one brother, Donald Ellis.
Surviving are two sons, David B. Ellis, Tampa, Florida and Douglas S. Ellis, Columbus, Ohio; two daughters, Bari L. Ellis, of Bowie, Maryland and Toni M. Heater, of Golden Beach, Maryland; one sister, Lynne S. Sommer, Wheeling, W. Va. and five grandsons.
At the families request there will be no visitation.
Memorial services were held at the funeral home, Thursday, January 2, 2003 at 11 A.M. with Rev. William O. Webster officiating.

CLARE Z. BISCAN
August 23, 1924--December 29, 2002
CLARE (ZEYER) BISCAN, 78, of Crestview Lane, Wheeling, W. Va., died Sunday, December 29, 2002 at her residence.
She was born in Mt. Pleasant, Ohio, Saturday, August 23, 1924, a daughter of the late Albert and Anna Mitchell Zeyer.
She was a member of Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church and the Rosary Altar Society, Wheeling; and a graduate of College of Commerce, Wheeling.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John M. Biscan; two brothers, Paul and Delbert Zeyer; and a sister, Katharine Keller.
She was a devoted mother and grandmother to two daughters, Beverly A. Barker, wife of Joseph, of St. Clairsville, Ohio and Janice Biscan-Banks of Huntington, W. Va.; and a granddaughter, Beverly "Cathleen" Banks.
Funeral Liturgy with Mass was celebrated at 11 A.M. Friday, January 3, 2003, at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church, with Father Frank O'Kruta as celebrant.
Interment followed in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Wheeling.
Memorial contributions may be made to Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church, 2 Allendale Road, Wheeling, W. Va. 26003.

JOHN MARCHBANK, JR.
JOHN MARCHBANK, JR., 74, of N. 8th Street, Martins Ferry, Ohio, died Tuesday, January 7, 2003, at Ohio State University Medical Center, Columbus, Ohio.
He was born in Mt. Pleasant, Ohio on Friday, September 21, 1928, a son of the late John C. and Ruth (King) Marchbank.
He was a retired brakeman for Conrail, Mingo Jct., Ohio and he served in the U. S. Air Force during the Korean War.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Betty (Bianconi) Marchbank and one brother, Fred Marchbank.
Surviving are two sons, John T. Marchbank of Martins Ferry and Kevin M. Marchbank, husband of Lisa, of Rayland, Ohio; one daughter, Holly E. Gudzik of Wheeling, W. Va.; three sisters, Sarah Bendeur of Gray, Georgia, Elizabeth Helen Yoder of Navarre, Ohio and Ruth A. Marchbank, Memphis, Tenn.; and one brother, William Marchbank of Rayland, Ohio; three grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at the funeral home Saturday, January 11, 2002, at 1 P.M., with Rev. William O. Webster officiating.
Interment followed in Riverview Cemetery, Martins Ferry with full military honors by the Belmont Co. Council of the V.F.W.

EDWARD J. VOLAN, JR.
EDWARD J. VOLAN, JR., 57, of Grant Avenue, Martins Ferry, Ohio died Wednesday, January 22, 2003 at Ohio Valley Medical Center, Wheeling, W. Va.
Edward was born in Wheeling, W. Va. on Friday, May 25, 1945 the son of the late Edward J. and Rose (Gregorcic) Volan.
He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Martins Ferry and was employed at Blattner Truss, Inc., McMechen, W. Va. He also served in the U. S. Army during the Vietname War.
Surviving are his wife Donna M. (Krankovich) Volan; two sons, Edward J. Volan III and his wife Connie, St. Clairsville, Ohio and Brent J. Volan, Martins Ferry; one daughter, Dawn H. Volan, Martins Ferry, Ohio.
Funeral services were held at the funeral home Saturday, January 25, 2003 at 1 P. M. with Father Thomas Magary officiating.
Interment followed in Holly Memorial Gardens, Pleasant Grove, Ohio with full military honors by the Belmont Co. Council of the V.F.W.

THELMA (KOUVAS) KARATHANASIS
THELMA (KOUVAS) KARATHANASIS, 91, of Bronx, New York, died Thursday, February 6, 2003, at West Chester Square Hospital, Bronx, New York.
She was born in Patmos, Greece on Monday, October 30, 1911, a daughter of the late George and Mary (Regis) Kouvas.
She was a member of The Church Of The Life Giving Fountain, Bronx, N.Y.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Steve Karathanasis; five brothers, Michael, Michael, John, Thomas and Jack Kouvas and two sisters, Angela Kalfas and Caroline Reynolds.
She is survived by one son, Harry Karathanasis of Martins Ferry, Ohio; two daughters, Mary Gonzales and her husband Carmelo of Bronx, N.Y. and Natty Pace and her husband Frank of Wallingford, Conn.; two sisters, Marie Koucoumaris and her husband Nick of San Diego, Calif. and Martha Tyler of Tucson, Ariz.
Also surviving are four grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Funeral services were held at the convenience of the family.
Interment followed in Riverview Cemetery, Martins Ferry, Ohio.
