Elizabeth Friend
Elizabeth (Miller) Friend, 97, formerly of Bridgeport, Ohio, went to be with the Lord, Monday, Dec. 1, 2003 at East Ohio Regional Hospital Long Term Care, Martins Ferry, Ohio. She was born Jan. 1, 1906 in Brookside, Ohio, a daughter of the late Jacob C. and Lucy (Imer) Miller.
She was a member of the former Bridgeport Pentecostal Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William W. Friends, Dec. 21, 1954, four sons, James E., Virgil A., Donald D., and William W. Friend, Jr., a daughter, Betty Lou Friend and three brothers, William C. August and Ray A. Miller.
Surviving are a son, Robert E. (Lois) Friend of Martins Ferry, three daughters, Martha Jane Friend of Martins Ferry, Suzanne (James) Solomon of Bridgeport and Mary (Harry) Scammell of Brookside, 19 grandchildren; 27 great - grand- children and six great-great grand children.
Friends will be received Wednesday, 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., at the Heslop Funeral Home, Walnut at Fifth, Martins Ferry, Ohio, where services will be held Thursday, Dec. 4, 2003 at 11 a.m., with Denver Saltkield officiating. Burial follows in Linwood Cemetery, Blaine, Ohio.
The family wishes to thank the staff of East Ohio Regional Hospital Long Term Care for the dedication and loving care they provided Elizabeth.
Memorial contributions may be made to East Ohio Regional Hospital LTC, c/o Residents Fund, 90 N. Fourth St., Martins Ferry, OH 43935.

Robert Ballog
Robert Edward Ballog, 80, died in his home on Saturday, Nov. 29, 2003 attended by his daughters Carol Ballog and Connie Griffith and good friends Carl Trick.
Predeceased by his parents, George Ballog and Rose DeLucas Ballog and brother George Ballog, Jr., of New Athens, Ohio.
Surviving by sister, Ramona Zitko (Raymond) of Lehigh, Fla.; daughters, Connie Griffith of Lily Dale, N.Y., Carol Ballog (Gary Kopp), Amy Dutt (Scott) of Columbus, and Debbie Ballog (Mike Hinckley) of Alabaster, Ala., and former spouse, Doris Chervank Ballog of Columbus, Ohio; three grandchildren, Shanan Griffith Mahoney (Keith), Matthew Scott Charles (Elizabeth) and Elise Anna Dutt; great - grandchildren, Mitchell and Cameron Charles; many nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
Robert graduated from New Athens, Ohio schools, active in band and choir. He served in the US Army medical corps during World War II, then received his degree in Mortuary Science in 1948. He worked as a funeral director in Bellaire and Columbus, Ohio for over 30 years. He was active in the central Ohio Civitan and Masonic Lodge civic groups.
A long-time Florida resident, he worked at Derby Lane for many years. Bob was a caring person and enjoyed a late career as a home health aide. He studied Spiritual Healing and served each summer at the Healing Temple in Lily Dale, N.Y. Bob enjoyed music, painting, reading and gardening and visiting with his friends and family. He attended King of Peace MCC. He was truly a gentle man with a rakish sense of humor who enjoyed being of service to others. He will be missed by many.
A memorial service will be held this week in St. Petersburg, Florida, with a graveside service at Longview Cemetery in New Athens, Ohio, to be determined later.
Donations in lieu of flowers may be given in his memory to: King of Peace MCC, 3150 5th Ave. N., St. Petersburg, FL, 33713; The Hospice of the Florida Suncoast, 300 East Bay Drive, Largo, FL, 33770; Lily Dale Assembly, 5 Melrose Park, Lily Dale, N.Y. 14752.

Benjamin Haines
Benjamin Haines, 31, a 10 resident of the Belmont Habilitation Center in St. Clairsville, Ohio, died Monday, Dec. 1, 2003 in Wheeling Hospital. He was born April 17, 1972 in Middleton, Ohio.
Surviving are his mother, Frieda Pitkin of Camden, Ohio; sister, Shannon and brother Dustin Haines of Middleton; Aunt Paula and Uncle Roger of Franklin, Ohio.
Friends will be received at the Toothman Funeral Home in St. Clairsville on Thursday from 1 p.m. until time of service at 2:45 p.m. Burial follows in Oak View Cemetery.

Mary Sebenello
Mary Sebenello, 86, of Smithfield, Ohio, died Monday, Dec. 1, 2003.
Friends and family may call on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., at the J. E. Foster Funeral Home, Inc. 107 Hill St., Smithfield. Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be held on Friday at 10 a.m., at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church in Smithfield. Burial will follow in Northern Cemetery in Smithfield. Vigil service will be on Thursday at 3:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the C.W.C. of Our Lady Queen of Peace Church.

Robert F. Bizzarri
Robert F. Bizzarri, 78, of Fairpoint, Ohio, died Saturday, Jan. 17, 2004 at Belmont Manor Nursing Home, St. Clairsville.
He was born Feb. 27, 1925 in Lafferty, Ohio, a son of the late Scrafino and Josephine Agosti Bizzarri.
Bob was retired from the WV Laborers and a World War II Army veteran.
He was a member and past president of WV Laborers local #1149, vice chairman and executive board member of the Belmont County Democratic Central Committee, a former board member of Wheeling National Bank, a member of the Fairpoint Polish Club, a Wheeling Township Trustee for 24 years and the past president, the former president of the County Township Organization, a life member of the VFW and American Legion of St. Clairsville, a coach and player of sandlot baseball of Belmont County, a former OVAC baseball official, and served on several Belmont County Commissions.
Bob was a member and lay committeeman for St. Joseph's Catholic Church of Fairpoint.
In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by four brothers, Joseph "Friday", Victor, Gene and Richard Bizzarri, and a sister, Olive Calovini.
Surviving are his wife of 55 years, Grace Zaccagnini Bizzarri, a son, Greg, and his wife Meg Bizzarri of St. Clairsville, a sister, Patricia Stewart and her husband, Ernie of Flushing, Ohio and grandchildren Arin and Arie Bizzarri of Columbus, Ohio.
Friends will be received 2 to 8 p.m., Sunday, at the Beck - Altmeyer Funeral Home, St. Clairsville, Ohio.
A Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be held at 11 a.m., Monday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Fairpoint with Fr. Thomas Graven, the celebrant.
Entombment follows in Holly Memorial Gardens, Pleasant Grove. Vigil services will be held at 3 p.m., and VFW services at 7 p.m., Sunday.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph's Catholic Church or the Cumberland Trail Fire District.

Donald Jarvis, Jr.
Donald Lee Jarvis, Jr., 43, of County Road #15, Rayland, Ohio, died Sunday, Feb. 8, 2004 at East Ohio Regional Hospital, Martins Ferry, Ohio. He was born Sept. 22, 1960 in Martins Ferry, son of Donald L. Jarvis, Sr., and Shirley Y. (Burch) Jarvis of Rayland, Ohio.
He was a member of the Sheet Metal Worker Local 33 out of Wheeling, W. Va. and a Protestant by faith. He coached the Young Buckeyes, Warren Township Baseball, Tri-Co Baseball and Warren Township Softball. He was a graduate of Buckeye South High School, class of 1979.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, William and Elizabeth Jarvis and his maternal grandparents, Bud and Alma Burch.
Surviving in addition to his parents are a daughter, Jennifer Langsdorf and her husband, Willie of Martins Ferry; a son, Donald L. Jarvis, III, of Glen Robbins; a sister, Cindy Norman and her husband, Bud, of Yorkville, Ohio. Nieces and nephews: Amanda, Jessica, Michael, Sean, Michael, Ryan, Nathan and Eric.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, 2 to 9 p.m., at the Borkoski Funeral Home, Tiltonsville, Ohio, where services will be held on Wednesday at 11 a.m., with Reverend James Ogden officiating. Burial follows at Holly Memorial Gardens, Pleasant Grove, Ohio.

Helen E. Smith
Helen E. Smith, 79, of Noble Street, Bellaire, died Sunday, Feb. 8, 2004 at Belmont Community Hospital, Bellaire.
She was born Sept. 2, 1924 in Lansing, Ohio daughter of the late Homer and Lily Pearl Parker Smith.
She was a retired LPN from Bellaire City Hospital and a member of the Church of the Nazarene.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Robert Smith; a son, Robert William Smith and two brothers, William and Floyd Smith.
Surviving are two sons, Joseph Smith and Frank (Judy Casciani) Smith, all of Bellaire; six daughters, Marlene (John) Cerullo of Shadyside, Patricia (Tim) Porter, Paula Smith, Pamela (William) Appoloni and Mary (Marty) Marn all of Bellaire, and Sandra Schneider of Centerville, Ohio; two sisters, Freda Kelly of Canton, Ohio and Eleanor Jane Littleton of Neffs; 25 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Grisell Funeral Home, 400-33rd St., Bellaire where funeral services will be held on Wednesday, at 11 a.m. with Reverend Thomas L. Jones officiating. Interment in Davis Cemetery, Bellaire.

Ronald A. Frye
Ronald A. Frye, 63, Ross Street, Steubenville, formerly of Yorkville, Ohio, died Sunday, Feb. 8, 2004 at Trinity Medical Center (West) Steubenville, Ohio. He was born Sept. 1, 1940 at Martins Ferry, Ohio, son of the late Avery Frye (1992) and Thelma Harris Frye, Rayland, Ohio.
He retired after 43 years of service at Timet Titanium Plant in Toronto, Ohio. He was a Presbyterian by faith, a member of the Steubenville Chapter of the Moose Lodge and the United Steel Workers of America.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Debra K. Frye.
Surviving in addition to his mother are two sons, William Edward Frye and his wife Lori of Columbus, Ohio, Frank Scott DeFede, San Diego, Calif.; a daughter, Michele Susan Frye of Steubenville, Ohio; two brothers, Kenneth Frye and his wife Carol and Raymond Frye, both of Rayland, Ohio; two sisters, Patricia Byers, Pickerington, and Karen Zontini and her husband, Martin, of Clyde, Ohio; two grandsons, Matthew and Nickalaus Frye and a granddaughter, Kayla DeFede.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m., at the Borkoski Funeral Home, Tiltonsville, Ohio where services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. with Reverend William Webster officiating. Burial follows at Upland Cemetery, Yorkville, Ohio.

Virginia Puperi
Virginia Puperi, 83, of Kuckuck Lane, Martins Ferry, Ohio, died Monday, Feb. 9, 2004 at East Ohio Regional Hospital, Martins Ferry. She was born May 7, 1920 in Martins Ferry, a daughter of the late Bernard and Elizabeth (Cassel) Puperi.
She was retired from the former Foodland IGA on Wheeling Island. Virginia was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church Catholic Daughters, Catholic Women's Club, and the Auxiliary of the former V.F.W. Post 3613, all of Martins Ferry.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Ambrose Puperi and a niece, Barbara Harbison.
Surviving are two brothers, Albert Puperi of Redding, Calif., and James Puperi of Martins Ferry; three sisters, Philomena Zanke of Monroeville, Pa., Perina Johnson of St. Clairsville and Mary Fowler of N. Canton, Ohio; seven nephews, Terry, James, Ron, and David Puperi, Mark and David Fowler and Bob Zanke, and five nieces, Linda Myers, Sally Wodusky, Jackie Palmer, Patty Ontko and Kathy Allen.
Friends will be received Tuesday, 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., at the Heslop Funeral Home, Walnut at Fifth, Martins Ferry, Ohio. Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be celebrated Wednesday, Feb. 11, 2004 at 1 p.m., at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Martins Ferry, with Rev. Richard Battocletti officiating. Burial follows in Union Cemetery, St. Clairsville, Ohio.
Rosary devotions will be recited Tuesday at 3 p.m., followed by Wake services at 7 p.m., both in the funeral home.
