Lawton McClintock 07/16/2003

Lawton McClintock, age 83, of County Road 166, Cardington died Wed. morning July 16, 2003 at Marion General Hospital. Lawton was born on March 4,1920 in Stantontown (Deleware Co.) to the late John and Hazel (Dray) McClintock.

He graduated from Ashley H.S. in 1938 and after several years he returned to school and obtained his Bachelors Degree from The Ohio State University in 1952. Lawton also served in the Army Air Corps during WWII.

On October 20,1946 he married Mary Aldine Fry and she survives him in Cardington.

Other survivors include 3 daughters, Pamela (Larry) Gandee of Marion, Teresa Bailey of Cardington, and Candi Rogers of Caledonia; 4 Grandchildren, Jason Gandee, Jeff Gandee, Ashley Bailey and Corinne Rogers; and 1 Great-Grandchild Tyler Gandee.

He was preceded in death by a sister Bernice Avy and a son-in-law Jim Rogers.

After starting his teaching career at Cardington, Lawton went on to teach Vocational Agriculture at Pleasant High School for 10 years where he was in his 50th year as an adult farm instructor. After his teaching career he was an administrative assistant at the Ohio State Fair. In addition to his work, Lawton served 15 years on the Morrow County Fair Board, was very involved in showing swine up until the age of 82 and was active in the senior Olympics for over 20 years.

Friends may call Friday July 18 from 2-4 and 6-8PM at Gompf Funeral Home in Cardington where funeral services will be held Saturday at 11AM
with Dr. Dennis Schultz officiating. Burial will be in Rivercliff Cemetery in Mount Gilead

Memorial Contributions may be made to the scholarship fund at Pleasant H.S. in memory of Lawton McClintock.

Doris B. Kochheiser 07/06/2003

Doris B. Kochheiser, of West Summit St., Galion, passed away July 6, 2003 at the E.C.U. of Galion Community Hospital, after a brief courageous battle with cancer.

Doris was born on Feb. 5, 1934 in Mt. Gilead to the late Charles A. Bond and Mabel (Bond) Foos, whom survives. She attended Cardington High School. Doris lived in Galion most of her life. She once had an antique and furniture refinishing shop on Summit St., and had always enjoyed and collected antiques. In the 1980’s, she and her family owned a craft shop, Kochheiser Korners.

Doris loved her home, and enjoyed decorating for the holidays, especially Christmas. She also loved nature and all of her pets over the years very much.

Doris previously had been employed by DECA of Lexington, and most recently PECO II of Galion. She enjoyed her work and co-workers.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law; Jerry and Cindy Kochheiser and Joseph and Micki Kochheiser all of Galion; Three grandchildren, Joe Halbedel of Indian Trails, NC, Ashley Kochheiser of Coshocton, OH and Weston Kochheiser of Galion; a sister and brother-in-law, Jean and Paul Rupert of Jonesborough,TN and a brother and sister-in-law, Roger and Rose Bond of Galion, and numerous nieces and nephews. Former husband and friend, Donald Kochheiser of Lucus, OH, and her dog and faithful companion, Ginger. She was preceded in death by a stepmother, Hazel Bond, a stepfather, George Foos, a sister and brother-in-law, Ruth and Frank Rizor, and an infant sister Caroline Bond.

At Doris’ request, there will be no calling hours. Private graveside services will be held at Glendale Cemetery in Cardington, with Reverends Lloyd and Dreama Caudill officiating. In lieu of flowers, her wishes are to have donations made to the Crawford County Humane Society 3590 ST. Rt. 98 Bucyrus, Ohio 44820.

Gompf Funeral Service in Cardington is assisting the family with the arrangements.

Rebecca S. “Susie” Joan 07/04/2003

Rebecca S. “Susie” Joan, age 60, of County Road 169, Cardington, OH died early Friday morning July 4, 2003 at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus. She was born June 16, 1943 in Upper Sandusky, OH to the late Maxine Schoenberger.

Susie was a lifetime homemaker and the wife of Frank Joan who survives in Cardington.

Survivors also include children; Sandra Shouler of Michigan, Joe Joan of Mount Gilead, Carol Joan of Mount Gilead, Deborah Joan of Cardington, Frank Joan of Pataskala and Wendell Joan of Columbus; 14 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Monday, July 07, 2003, at Gompf Funeral Home with Reverend John  Jackson officiating.

Ruby Heimlich 06/03/2003

Ruby Emma Heimlich, age 86, of Caledonia-Ashley Road, Cardington died early Tuesday afternoon, June 3, 2003, at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus. She was born March 17, 1917 in Iola, Kansas to the late George Washington and Emma Jane (Clark) Ellis.

A homemaker, Ruby was a graduate of Melbourne High School in Florida, a member of St. John Lutheran (Windfall) Church and of the Piecemakers and Fraternal Order of Gleaners, Chester Arbor.

She married Robert F. Heimlich in Vero Beach, Florida on February 10, 1939. He preceded her in death September 9, 1998.

Ruby is survived by three children and their spouses, Barbara and Maurice Grimm of Cardington, Richard and Barbara Heimlich of Ashley, and Betty and Melvin Zeigler of Reynoldsburg; 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and her husband, Ruby was preceded in death by a son, James Heimlich; and by 2 brothers and 1 sister.

Friends may call at Gompf Funeral Home Friday, June 6, 2003, from 2PM to 8PM. The funeral service will be held at 10:30AM Saturday, June 7, 2003, at St. John Lutheran (Windfall) Church with Pastor Donald Pletcher officiating. Burial will follow in Glendale Union Cemetery.

Those wishing to make memorial contributions are requested to consider St. John Lutheran (Windfall) Church, 5070 Newmans-Cardington Road East, Cardington, Ohio 43315 to provide picnic tables for the new shelter house. Condolences may be sent to the family on the World Wide Web at www.gompffh.com.

Mary Margaret Farrington Byrd 06/01/2003

On Sunday, 1 June 2003, Mary Margaret Farrington Byrd went home to join her husband, Harold “Fat” Byrd, her parents Addie (Hoffmire) and Clarence Farrington and her siblings: Helen Farrington Shilling, Jane Farrington  Taylor and Earl Farrington. She leaves behind a daughter, Margaret, and a son-in-law, Donald Butterfield.

Mary Margaret was born on 30 November 1908 in Cardington. She attended school and graduated from Cardington High School with the class of 1926.

After attending Bowling Green University and teaching in Bellepoint for 2 years, she returned to Cardington to teach for 27 years.

In 1936 Mary Margaret married Harold Ruhl Byrd. They lived in Columbus until 1945 at which time they moved to Urichsville. In 1946, they returned to Cardington.

At that time, she continued her teaching career. Mary Margaret taught second grade in Cardington until she retired in 1967.

Mary Margaret lived a quiet life in Cardington until 2000 at which time she moved to Morrow Manor in Chesterville.

Mary Margaret was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Cardington, Jenkins-Vaughan Unit #97 American Legion Auxiliary and Morrow County Retired Teachers and a lifetime member of both the Ohio and National Teachers Associations.

In addition to family members, nieces and nephews, she leaves behind her caring and wonderful former neighbors, the friendly and helpful staff at Morrow Manor and many friends.

Friends may call Tuesday, 3 June 2003 from 5 to 8 PM. The funeral will be on Wednesday, 4 June 2003 at 11AM at the First United Methodist Church in Cardington with Pastor John  Jackson officiating. Burial will follow at Glendale Union Cemetery.
