WOODSFIELD — Cecil L. Griffith, 70, of Woodsfield, died Thursday (Aug. 17, 2000) at his home.
Arrangements are pending at Bauer-Turner Funeral Home, Woodsfield.
Francis "Jack" Ripley
1924-2000
FLINT, Mich. — Francis “Jack” Ripley, 76, of Mt. Morris, died Wednesday (Aug. 16, 2000) at his home.
He was born Feb. 6, 1924, in Freeport, Ohio, son of the late Frank and Bertha Ripley.
Mr. Ripley was known in the Flint area and also throughout the country as a musician, comedian, song writer, impersonator and emcee his entire life. He was a stage and television personality and performed at the Grand Ole Opry.
He was a member of the Flint Musicians Union and the Michigan Country Music Hall of Fame.
He had been a resident of Mt. Morris for the last 17 years.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Buss and Bill; two sisters, Fern Mitchell and Dot DeJackemo; a brother-in-law, Bob Mitchell.
He leaves his wife, Judith Williams, whom he married Nov. 8, 1997; two step-daughters, Mrs. Larry (Christie) Stevens of Vassar and Mrs. Chuck (Cindy) Jones of Flint; five grandchildren, Kara and Brandon Stevens, Chip, Kandice and Nicholas Jones; several nieces and nephews; several brothers and sisters-in-law.
Friends may call from noon to 9 p.m. today at Swartz Funeral Home, Flint, and from 10 a.m. Saturday until services at 1 p.m. at Ambassador Baptist Church, Mt. Morris, with Pastor Dale L. Lewis officiating.
Burial will be in Flint Memorial Park.
Sandra Dalrymple
BARNESVILLE — Sandra Lyn (Crowder) Dalrymple, 60, of Barnesville, died Tuesday (Jan. 9, 2001) at her home.
She was born April 3, 1940, in East Fultonham, daughter of the late Joseph C. and Laura Mae (Eversole) Crowder.
Mrs. Dalrymple retired from Wheeling National Bank of Barnesville, where she served as a bank teller. She was Baptist by faith.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Lottie Locke; and a brother, Gene Crowder.
She leaves her husband, Thomas Dalrymple; two daughters, Julie Zurick and Angie Johnson; two granddaughters, Nicole Zurick and Jessica Johnson, all of Barnesville; a sister, Pauline Osbourne of Zanesville; and a brother, Joe Crowder of Roseville.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Kelly-Kemp-Braido Funeral Home, Barnesville, where services will be 11 a.m. Friday.
Burial will be in Crestview Cemetery, Barnesville.
William Gordnier
RICHMOND, Ind. — William H. Gordnier, 77, of Richmond, died Monday (Jan. 8, 2001) at Reid Hospital.
He was born May 9, 1923, in New Castle, son of the late W.H. and Gladys (McVay) Gordnier.
Mr. Gordnier lived in the Richmond area all of his life and was a 1942 graduate of New Castle High School. He was a conductor-brakeman for Pennsylvania/Conrail Railroad for 42 years. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in World War II.
He was a member of Chester Heights United Methodist Church.
He leaves his wife of 53 years, Lillian L. (Grimes) Gordnier; a son, Shelley Gordnier of Richmond; a daughter, Lynn Reisor of Freeport, Ohio; five grandchildren; a sister, Jean E. Becker of New Castle; nieces and nephews.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Doan & Mills Funeral Home, Richmond.
There will be no public service.
Martha McVicker
Martha A. McVicker, 87, of Cambridge, died Tuesday (Jan. 9, 2001) at Southeastern Ohio Regional Medical Center.
She was born Nov. 21, 1913, in Langs, daughter of the late Alonzo and Dottie (Duffy) Simmons.
Mrs. McVicker had worked at Bayes Restaurant in Woodsfield and cleaned houses.
She was a Methodist by faith.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard D. McVicker, who died Dec. 26, 1987. They were married in 1950. Also deceased are three sisters, Hazel Smith, Carrie Elliott and Katie Sims; three brothers, Frank McCaslin, Bryce Simmons and John Simmons.
She leaves a son, Charles Antill of Boynton Beach, Fla.; two daughters, Shirley Callihan of Cambridge and Martha Cole of Beacon Falls, Conn.; four grandchildren, Tommy Joe Gravens, David Callihan, Kevin Callihan and Michelle (Callihan) Crews; and five great-grandchildren.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Thorn-Black Funeral Home, Cambridge, where services will be 11 a.m. Friday with the Rev. Ken Mansfield officiating.
Burial will be in Guernsey Memory Gardens.
Ruth Springer
Ruth Eileen Springer, 84, of Cambridge, died Wednesday (Jan. 10, 2001) at her home.
She was born March 18, 1916, in Beaver, Pa., daughter of the late Elmer and Mary Cathryn (Laughman) Bruney.
Mrs. Springer was a member of St. Benedict Catholic Church and the Moose Lodge. She had worked at Newberry’s as a retail clerk.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph E. (Short) Springer, who died June 9, 1983; two brothers, David and John Bruney; two great-grandchildren, Jason Greenwalt and Eric Daubenspeck.
She leaves four daughters, Mrs. Harold (Patricia) Stillion, Mrs. John (Mary Jo) Daubenspeck and Mrs. Joseph (Margaret) Creek, all of Cambridge, and Mrs. George (Debra) Miller of Salesville; a son, Richard Springer of Cambridge; 15 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Thomas Bruney of Florida and Wilber Bruney of Pennsylvania; a sister, Alice Weekley of Florida; several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Scott Funeral Home, Cambridge. A wake service will be 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Benedict Catholic Church with the Rev. Fr. Robert Borer serving as celebrant.
Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
