WAVA L. DEARDORFF
1927-2001
BYESVILLE — Wava L. Deardorff, 74, of Byesville, died Saturday (June 16, 2001) at Cambridge Health and Rehabilitation Center.
She was born Jan. 26, 1927, in Buffalo, daughter of the late John and Ora (Moore) Lashley.
Mrs. Deardorff was a former employee of Tom’s Pharmacy and was a homemaker.
She was a 1944 graduate of Valley Local (Buffalo) High School.
She was a Methodist by faith, and a member of American Legion Auxiliary Post 641 Belle Valley, and also the Dale Earnhardt Fan Club.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Everett and Charles; and two husbands, Robert Fillman, and Oliver “Jr.” Deardorff.
She leaves two sons, Greg (Teresa) Ansberry of Cambridge, and Neil (Debbie) Ansberry of Senecaville; two daughters, Mrs. Gary (Beverly) Courtwright of Dundee, and Diane Potts and George Sprague of Byesville; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and her first husband, Paul Ansberry of Titusville, Fla.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Black Family Funeral Service, Byesville, where services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday with the Rev. Virginia Geiger officiating.
Burial will be in Buffalo Cemetery.

Fanny L. Zonker
WOODSFIELD — Fanny L. Zonker, 89, of Woodsfield, died Tuesday (July 31, 2001) at her home.
She was born May 8, 1912, in Lewisville, daughter of the late Arthur T. and Nancy (Yoho) Dickson.
Mrs. Zonker was a homemaker and a member of Woodsfield United Methodist Church, where she belonged to the United Methodist Women.
She was a member of Huffman Grange 2513, Lewisville.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Edna Robinson.
She leaves her husband, Harry V. “Pete” Zonker, whom she married Dec. 22, 1934; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Watters Funeral Home, Woodsfield, where services will be 1 p.m. Friday with Travis Christman officiating.
Burial will be in Friendship Cemetery, Lewisville.
Earnstine “Kathryn” Gessel
CALDWELL — Earnstine “Kathryn” Gessel, 62, of Salem, died Saturday (July 28, 2001) at the Salem Convalescent Center.
She was born Aug. 14, 1938, in Middleboro, Ky., daughter of the late Octavia and Beth (Webb) Fuson.
She was preceded in death by a son, Johnny Wilson; three brothers, B.H. Fuson, Robert Fuson and Jake Fuson; and a sister, Mary Rouse.
She leaves her husband, Ray Gessel; two daughters, Kathy Whitsell of Florida and Robin Roberts of Alliance; three sons, Donald Wilson of Damascus, Lonnie Wilson of Lorain and Brian Wilson; and a sister, Margorie Ann Newcomb of Alliance.
Graveside services and burial will 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in Sharon Cemetery with the Rev. William Pickenpaugh officiating.
McVay-Perkins Funeral Home, Caldwell, is handling the arrangements.
Lillie V. Stephen
BYESVILLE — Lillie V. Stephen, 91, of Cumberland, died Tuesday (July 31, 2001) at Southeastern Ohio Regional Medical Center, Cambridge.
She was born Sept. 21, 1909, in Monroe County, daughter of the late Earl W. and Adelia Carpenter.
Mrs. Stephen was a homemaker and a member of Stop Nine Church of Christ, Byesville, and Golden Sixties.
She enjoyed writing poetry, gardening and raising flowers.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Louis T. Stephen, in 1972; a son, Bobbie Lee Stephen; five brothers, Guy, Parker, Earl, John and Robert; three sisters, Melva Patterson, Mary Howell and Evelyn Carpenter.
She leaves two sons, Frank Louis Stephen of Melbourne, Fla., and Lonnie (Dorothy) Stephen of Cumberland; two daughters, Velma Tyser of Fountain, Fla., and Mrs. Marion (Janet) Hickman of Cambridge; two brothers, Ralph (Mildred) Carpenter of Delaware and Racey Carpenter of Midvale; a sister, Jennie H. Stephen of Columbus; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Black Family Funeral Service, Byesville.
Services will be 1 p.m. Friday at Stop Nine Church of Christ, Byesville, with Evangelist Abe Miller officiating.
Burial will be in Guernsey Memory Gardens, Cambridge.
Candye L. (Ginn) Kavossii
CALDWELL — Candye L. (Ginn) Kavossii, 44, of St. Augustine, Fla., formerly of New Concord, died Friday (July 27, 2001) in St. Augustine.
She was born May 14, 1957, in Cambridge, daughter of the Fred S. Ginn and the late Virginia (Buckey) Ginn.
Mrs. Kavoossi was a graduate of Shenandoah High School and a Methodist by faith.
She leaves two daughters, Jessica Heddleson of Dayton and Keshia Mihalik of Cambridge; a sister, Mrs. Ron (Cathy) Stewart of Ava; a brother, Fred A. “Butch” Ginn of Ava; several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at McVay-Perkins Funeral Home, Caldwell, where services will be 11 a.m. Friday with the Rev. Gary Fitzgerald officiating.
Burial will be in Halley’s Ridge Cemetery.
