HERBERT PENN

Herbert F. Penn, 73, of West Union, died Monday, Sept. 30, 2002. He was born in Scioto County on Dec. 24, 1928, son of the late Herbert S. and Demia (Pridmore) Penn. He was a member of the West Union Church of Christ in Christian Union Church. Survivors include one daughter, Treva Wilson of Peebles; one son, Lindsey Penn of Wrightsville; his fiancee, Ruby Crawford of West Union; three sisters, Mary Smith of Portsmouth, Dorothy Deets of Painsville and Theta Gill of Columbus; two brothers, Jack Penn of Okeechebe, Fla., and David Penn of Louisville, Ky.; four granchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Elma Jean Penn. Services will be held Friday, Oct. 4, at 1 p.m., at the Beam Funeral Home in West Union with Jerry McConnaughey and Cliff Stevens officiating. Burial will follow in the Kirker Cemetery with military graveside services by the Adams County Honor Guard. Visitation will be held Thursday, Oct. 3, from 6 - 8 p.m., at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Hospice of Hope, 909 Kenton-Station Drive, Maysville, Ky 41056.

ROBIE PERDUE

Wednesday, December 27, 1995, Pike and Adams Counties were shocked of the death of our loved one. Robie Clinton Perdue, of 20 Toller Road, Peebles, Ohio, departed this life on December 27, 1995, at his home, (being pronounced dead at the Adams County Hospital, West Union, Ohio) at the age of 73 years and nine days. He was a native of Pike County, being born and raised in the Arkoe community, near Elm Grove, Ohio. He was born on December 18, 1922, a son of Elmer and Iva Smith Perdue, both of whom preceded him in death. Also preceding him in death, granddaughter Christi Perdue on January 9, 1967. He attended school at the Arkoe and Combs School near Poplar Grove. He then attended Elm Grove School. On April 21, 1945, he was united in marriage to the former Genevie Duke, who survives. Also left to mourn the loss are his children; a son, Leon Perdue of Piketon, Ohio, and a daughter, Kathy Newman of Peebles, Ohio; a daughter-in-law, Nancy Perdue and a son-in-law, Tom Newman, whom he loved as his very own; four grandchildren who were a number one priority - Shane and Chad Perdue, and Natalie and Tommy Newman, of whom he based his life around; three brothers, Luther, Bill and Roger Perdue, all of Piketon, Ohio; three sisters, Retha Shanks of Dayton, Ohio, Freda VanHoy and Marlene Beekman, both of Piketon, Ohio. On April 22, 1995, Robie and Jenny celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary, sharing such a beautiful occasion together. Robie attended the Union Hill Church. He was one who visited different churches, enjoying the old-time preaching and the good gospel singing. He was retired from General Motors, Delco Marine Division of Dayton, Ohio, on December 23, 1986, and since retirement he'd lend a helping hand whenever and wherever needed. He was often seen riding a bicycle or a four-wheeler along with his grandchildren. He was a great family man, enjoying his family as much as any man could. He had a good Christmas, smiling as he watched the family share their gift-giving together. He was happy for all of them. Robie gave his heart to the Lord in the early 1960s in a revival held at the Cottie's Corner Church where the Reverend Carey Hilterbran was preaching. He'll be sadly missed by all who knew him. He had a heart of gold - never to be forgotten. We loved him!

WILMA PERRY

Wilma A. Perry, 84, of Columbus, formerly of Locust Grove, died Sunday, Jan 14, 2001, at the Wesley Glen Retirement Center. She was born on Sept. 18, 1916, in Adams County, the daughter of the late Everett H. and Edna (Herdman) Shoemaker. She was a member of the Locust Grove Methodist Church, retired after 21 years of teaching in the Franklin, Peebles and Belfast school systems and was a member of the Retired Teachers Association. Survivors include three brothers, Glenn Shoemaker of Nashville, Tenn., Dr. Larry Shoemaker of Powell, and Merlan Shoemaker of Cocoa, Fla.; one sister, Bonnie Herdman of Hillard; and several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John L. Perry, on Jan 2 1998; one brother and one sister. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Jan 17, 11 a.m., at the Loucst Grove United Methodist Church with Wayne Edingfield officiating. Burial will follow in the Locust Grove Cemetery. Visitation was held Tuesday at the Wallace-Thompson Funeral Home in Peebles.

FAYE PIATT

O. Faye Elizabeth Piatt (Tiny Freeman), 62, of Winchester, died Sunday, Feb. 7, 1999, at University Hospital in Cincinnati. She was born Jun 30, 1936, in Portsmouth, the daughter of the late Orval and Edith (Bach) Freeman of West Union. She was a member of the Bethany Church of the Brethren and the Winchester Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, a former unit manager with Tupperware Home Parties Inc. for 10 years, and a representative of the Avon Co., of Sharonville for 11 years. Survivors include her husband, Richard (Dick) Piatt of Winchester; five sons, Larry Michael of Seaman, Greg of Peebles, Jimmie of Felicity, Brian of Cherry Fork and Randy of West Union; two daughters, Julie Schuler of Peebles and Cathy Dunn of Franklin; two sisters, Linda Mae Downs of Winchester and Debbie Grooms of Fairfield; 16 grandchildren; two uncles and one aunt. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by one son, Stephen W. Piatt; and a grandaughter, Jaime G. Piatt. Funeral services will be held Thursday, Feb. 11, 2 p.m., at the Lafferty Funeral Home in West Union, with Bill Christman officiating. Burial will follow in the West Union Cemetery. Visitation will be held Wednesday, Feb. 10, 6-9 p.m., at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Winchester Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, c/o Anna Mary Pence, 1191 Pence Road, Winchester, Ohio 45697.

POLLY PIATT

Mrs. Polly Ann Piatt died at her home in the eastern part of Tiffin Twp., Tuesday night of last week, aged 84 years. Funeral Wednesday and burial at Stone Chapel Cemetery. She was the widow of Jacob Piatt and mother of Mrs. John W. Black of Humbolt, Illinois.

ABRAHAM PLUMMER

Abraham Plummer, who was on Monday of last week stricken with paralysis, died Friday morning. The funeral services took place Saturday afternoon from the home of the deceased and was conducted by Rev. M. G. Humphreys. The remains were taken to North Liberty for interment. [NB: Abraham Plummer was s/o Nathan and Elizabeth (Crawford) Plummer. He was married to Elizabeth Wright in Adams Co. c1854. They had six children: Levi M., Albert Stuart (twin), Thomas Nathan (twin), Mary Cindella, John Henry and Jenetta "Nettie".]

HENRY PLUMMER

Henry C. Plummer, son of Levi and Cynthia Bayless Plummer, was born March 22, 1869 near Bellfontaine, Ohio and died April 28, 1925. His family moved to this county when he was seven years of age. Here he grew to manhhod and in February, 1897, he married to Mattie Allison. To them were born three children: Elsie L., Etta Mae, who died in 1919, and Glenn. Mr Plummer was one of a family of 11 children, two sisters and one brother preceeding him in death. The surviving brothers and sisters are: John L. of Springfield, Ohio; Moore L. of Indianapolis, Ind.; Calvin A. of Westerville; Mrs W. P. Howland of Winchester; Mrs. W. H. Orebaugh of Columbus; Mrs. Isabella Kendall of Westerville, and Mrs. E. B. Gulick of Renfrow, Okla. Interment was in the Cherry Fork Cemetery.

JOHN PLUMMER

John H. Plummer, son of Abraham and Elizabeth Wright Plummer, was born April 8, 1863 and died on the same farm March 28, 1948, age 84 years, 11 months, 20 days. He was the last of a family of four sons and two daughters. His brothers were Levi, Nathan and Albert. His sisters, Mrs. Nettie Kinnett and Mrs. Mary Mangus. He was united in marriage to Louella Kinett, January 16, 1913. To this union was born one son, Albert, who resides on the Plummer homestead, and with whom he made his home for the past several years. His son and family did everything possible to add to his comfort during his declining years. Besides his son to murn their loss, he is survived by five grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and many other relatives and friends. Early in his life he united with the Presbyterian church in Winchester and was faithful in attendance at its services as long as health would permit. It is a great solace to loved ones and friends to know that he is now supremely happy and will await a reunion with them in the home prepared for them from the foundation of the world.

MINERVA PLUMMER

Mrs. Minerva Jane Plummer, daughter of John and Jane Bailey, was born Feb. 2, 1831 and died Sept. 9, 1923, aged 92 years., 7 mos., 7 days. She married Moses Plummer, who preceded her in death 43 years ago. Eight children were born, six are dead, two dying in infancy, leaving one daughter, Mrs. Rhoda McClughen, and one son, John Plummer, with whom she made her home; 16 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. She joined the U.P. Church of Winchester early in life and remained until her death. [NB: Buried in Winchester Cemetery, Winchester]

RUTH POWELL

Ruth Powell, 59, of Otway, died Wednesday, November 16, in Scioto Memorial Hospital in Portsmouth. Born at Blue Creek on January 6, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Verna and Bessie Mingus Williams. Surviving are her husband, Herbert Powell; two sons, Roger Powell of McDermott and Larry Powell of Hesperia, California; one daughter, Peggy Jenkins of Otway, 10 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and two sisters, Carolyn Barton ot Tucson, Arizona and Betty Moore of Blue Creek. Services were Saturday, Novmeber 19, at the Church of God on Sunshine Ridge Road near Blue Creek, Rev. Thomas Stepp officiating. Burial was in the Sunshine Ridge Cemetery.
