SHEFFIELD TOWNSHIP -- Joseph Karney, 85, of Sheffield Township, died Monday, July 9, 2001, at his home, following a brief illness. He was born March 2, 1918 in Shickshinny, Pa., and had been a Sheffield Township resident for 48 years. He previously lived in Lorain.

HURON -- Hannelore DeMeis (nee Gerhardts), 70, of Huron, died Sunday, July 8, 2001, at Huron Health Care Facility, following a lengthy illness.

ROCHESTER -- David Joshua "Josh" Brown, 22, of Rochester, died suddenly Sunday, July 8, 2001, in Wellington Township.

John L. Waldorf, 85, Mason
NORWALK -- John L. "Roy" Waldorf, 85, of Norwalk, died Sunday, July 8, 2001, at Fisher-Titus Medical Center, Norwalk. He was born July 16, 1915, in South Bend, Ind. He grew up in Cleveland, and had lived in New London and Norwalk since 1939. He lived in Florida from 1991 he returned to Norwalk last year.

Robert McKinney Jr., 77
HURON -- Robert McKinney Jr., 77, of Huron, died unexpectedly Monday, July 9, 2001, at his home.

Melissa A. Ossman, 53
ELYRIA -- Melissa A. Ossman (nee McClelland), 53, of Elyria, died Thursday, July 5, 2001, at her home, following a brief illness.

Michael Gisondi
SANDUSKY — Michael Gisondi, age 13, of Sandusky, died at Cleveland Metro Hospital on Tuesday, September 29, 2009.

He was born June 13, 1996 in Norwalk and attended Briar Middle School and formerly Adams Junior High in Sandusky. He enjoyed spending time with friends, tossing footballs, X-Box 360, outdoors and his trampoline.

He is survived by his mother, Tammy (Darrin Stanley) Buckley of Sandusky; father, Randy (Anita) Gisondi of Hastings, FL; sister, Monica Gisondi of Wakeman; brothers, Allen Pollack of Sandusky and Anthony Nicolas Gisondi of Hastings, FL; maternal grandparents, Sherry Ebinger of Wakeman and Timothy (Deborah) Buckley of New London; great grandparents, Viola Davis and Henry “Hank” Black; aunt (Janie (Brian) Ayres of Sandusky; and several great aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his aunt, Jeannie Buckley; great grandparents, Doris Black, James Buckley and Walter Ebinger; great uncle, Wayne Fellenstein.

Friends may call on Monday from 1-3 and 5-8 P.M. at the Evans Funeral Home, 314 E. Main Street, Norwalk, OH. A funeral service will be held Tuesday at 11:00 A.M. in the funeral home. The Rev. Ken Hiser will officiate. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery in Willard.

Memorial contributions may be sent to Citizens Banking Company or a fund at Briar Middle School to help students with laptops.

Mark A. Blakely Sr.
LORAIN — Mark A. Blakely Sr., 40, of Lorain, Ohio passed away unexpectedly on Friday, September 25, 2009.

He was born on January 25, 1969 in Lorain, Ohio where he was a lifelong resident.

He formerly worked for MPW at U.S. Steel for over 10 years.

Mark was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers and Ohio State Buckeye fan, and enjoyed spending time with his family, whom he loved dearly. He was a very outgoing person and will be remembered most for his smile and willingness to always put his love for his wife and family always first.

He leaves to mourn his passing his devoted and loving wife of 12 years, Shirby Jean Blakely (nee Wannamaker); sons, Mark Jr. and Marque; daughters, Djana, Marquisha, Marcedes, Marlasia, all of Lorain; his sisters, Lisa (Alphonso) Jones, Dawn (Marvin) Conner of Columbus, OH; his brothers, Preston Blakely of Columbus, OH, Timothy (Ursula) Blakely Sr. of Houston,TX, Cedric Whitfield of Lorain and Stanford Whitfield of Elyria; his maternal grandmother, Mrs. Lula (Timothy) Blakely of Lorain; 3 uncles; an aunt; 2 grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews and other loving relatives and friends.

Mark is preceded in death by his father Olliewood Blakely in 1987; mother Theodora Blakely in 1990; and his twin sister Marsha Blakely in 1991.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, Oct. 3, 2009 from 11am until time of services at 12pm at Faith Ministries Christian Center, 1306 Euclid Ave in Lorain. Pastor Alvin Lindsey will officiate. Interment will follow in Elmwood Cemetery in Lorain. Arrangements entrusted to Brown-Robinson Funeral Home, 2652 Broadway, Lorain, OH 44052.

Louis W. Wilson
VERMILION — Louis W. Wilson, 77, of Vermilion, died Monday, August 24, 2009 at his home, after a brief illness.

He was born January 14, 1932 in Dayton, was raised in Dayton and moved to Vermilion in 1968.

He was a veteran of the United States Air Force serving from 1950-53. He worked in sales for Independence Insurance Co. retiring in 2005. He enjoyed watching sporting events, especially Notre Dame.

He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Patricia (nee Ruggles); 4 sons, Mark (Jeri) Wilson, Dayton, Mike (Debra) Wilson of Vermilion, Patrick Wilson of Phoenix, AZ and Chuck (Jody) Wilson of Huron; 3 daughters, GeGe Roskilly of Kingman, AZ, Kitty (Steven) Smith of Sandusky, and LuAnn (Joseph) Cantrell of Dayton; 9 grandsons; 4 great grandsons; brother, John F. Wilson of Dayton, and sisters, Phyllis Battigaglia of Fresno, CA, LaVerne E. Rees of Dayton, and Patricia H. Sanders of Dayton.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Lucian E. and Mary E. (nee Moran) Wilson; brother, Edgar Wilson; and sister, Mary E. Synkowski.

A private family gathering will celebrate his life. In lieu of flowers his family requests donations be made to the charity of the donors choice.

Cora Elsie Hicks
AMHERST — Cora Elsie Hicks (nee Byrd), 74, of Amherst, died Sunday, June 7, 2009 at Amherst Manor following a lengthy illness.

She was born February 4, 1935 in Oneida, Tenn. She made her home in Amherst for over 30 years.

Cora worked as a Nurse at Amherst Manor Nursing Home. She enjoyed gardening and tending to her flowers. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

Surviving is her daughters, Lois Arbogast, and Betty Conard; sons, Terry, and Doyle; 3 grandchildren and one great grandson; a sister, Neva June Norris; and a brother, L.C. Byrd; half sisters, Ottie Jean Meade, Louise Giles, Mary Jo Predmore and Carline Byrd.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Doyle "Buck" Hicks in 2004; parents, Esaw and Lola (nee Jeffers) Byrd; a brother, JD Byrd.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 4:00-8:00 pm. in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain. Graveside services will be Wednesday at 11:00 am at Evergreen Cemetery, South Amherst.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to the funeral home to help defray the funeral expenses.

Kaylee Rae Kidd
SHEFFIELD LAKE — Kaylee Rae Kidd, age 3 months, of Sheffield Lake went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, August 20, 2009. She passed away unexpectedly.

She was born on May 21, 2009 at Community Health Partners, Lorain to the proud parents Donnie Ray Kidd, Jr. and Bobbie Jo (Burchell) Kidd, of Sheffield Lake.

Survivors include her two sisters, Alissa Russo and Cassidy Kidd; maternal grandparents, Gregory and Jennifer Burchell of Lorain, and Charlene Holt of Elyria; paternal grandmother, Wilma Kidd of Vermilion; maternal great-grand parents, Geraldine and Alger Burchell, of Sheffield Lake; and several loving aunts, uncles and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her paternal grandfather, Donnie Ray Kidd, Sr.; and cousins, Travis Rairigh and Derrick Brake.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, August 25, 2009 from 10:30 until the time of funeral services at 11:30 a.m. in the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Rd., Amherst. Rev. Carson Fraley, pastor of North Lake Missionary Baptist Church, Amherst, will officiate. Burial will follow in Rest Haven Memory Gardens, Avon.

George G. Pena
LORAIN — George G. Pena, 74, passed away Sunday, June 14, 2009 at Community Health Partners, Lorain.

George was born on June 10, 1935 in Fort Worth, Texas to his parents, George and Santos (nee: Gonzales) Pena. He moved to Lorain at the age of 14 with his family in 1949. He attended Lorain High School.

After school, he worked as a Crane Operator at U.S. Steel for 48 years, retiring in 2000. While working at U.S. Steel, he also worked at T.J. Hume Construction as a Laborer for 17 years. He married his loving wife, Dolores R. "Lola" Pena on February 10, 1956. They raised two children together in Lorain. George was a member of St. Anthony of Padua, Mexican American Citizens Club, United States Steel Local 1104 and Guadalupe Society from Sacred Heart Chapel. He volunteered at Sacred Heart Chapel kitchen group and regularly attended Tuesday Morning Breakfast Club. He enjoyed woodworking in his garage and watching his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren play sports.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Dolores R. "Lola" (nee: Garcia) Pena; son, George A. (Laura-fiance); daughter, Lori Banes; 3 grandchildren, George R. (Krista) Pena, Brandon Banes and Brittney Banes; 2 great grandchildren, G. Brenton and Kylie Pena; 2 brothers, Amado "Moe" (Elvira) Pena and Narciso "Chicho" Pena; sister, Zenaida Elizalde; half brother, Joe Pena; and half sister, Bonnie Pena.

He is preceded in death by his father George Pena; mother Santos Razo; and 2 brothers, Alfred and Eulojio Pena.

The family will receive friends at Reidy-Scanlan-Giovannazzo Funeral Home, 2150 Broadway, Lorain, OH (440) 244-1961 on Tuesday, June 16, 2009 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. Closing prayers will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday at 9:20 AM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 AM, Wednesday, June 17, 2009 at St. Anthony of Padua, Fr. Joseph West, O.F.M. Conv., Pastor, officiating.

Burial services will be held at Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Twp.
