Phyllis A. Dillon
(May 27, 1937 - May 24, 2011)
Phyllis A. Dillon (nee: Wright), 73 years of age and beloved wife, mother, grandmother sister and friend went home to be with her precious heavenly Father, and reunited with her mother, father and loved ones on Tuesday, May 24, 2011 at EMH Regional Medical Center in Elyria following a brief illness.

She was born May 27, 1937 in Betsy Layne, Kentucky. Phyllis was raised in Kentucky until 1959 before moving to Lorain where she had made her home for the last fifty-one years.

She was employed as a caregiver at Sensi Care for twenty-one years. She was a member of Broadway Assembly in Lorain. Her hobbies included cooking and working crossword puzzles. Phyllis will always be remembered for her gentle spirit and kindness and always doing for others. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family.

Survivors include her husband of fifty-two years James Dillon; her son and his wife Timothy and Rita Dillon of Lorain; her daughters Dreama Dollar and her husband Paul Kevin of South Amherst, Deanna Ramey and her husband Anthony of Amherst and Donna Dillon of Lorain; thirteen grandchildren and nine great grandchildren; her brothers and their wives Frank and Mary Jane Wright of Detroit, Michigan, George P. and Geneva Wright of Ypsilanti, Michigan, Thomas and Pat Wright of Mt. Clemens, Michigan; and her her sister Virginia Webb of Lorain.

She was preceded in death by her parents William and Jennie Wright (nee: Layne); her brother William Wright and her sister Billia Atkins.

Friends may call Thursday, May 26, 2011 from 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 p.m. at the Hempel Funeral Home; 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst. Funeral services will be held Friday, May 27, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. at Broadway Assembly; 5495 Broadway Avenue, Lorain. The Rev. Matt Jones, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township.

Ryan Thomas Woodrum
(June 4, 1989 - May 24, 2011)
Ryan Thomas Woodrum, 21 years of age, and a resident of Wellington, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, May 24, 2011 following an traffic accident that occurred on his way to work.

He was born June 4, 1989 in Oberlin, Ohio. Ryan was a lifetime resident of Camden Township and graduated from Firelands High School in 2007.

Ryan earned a degree at Ohio Technical College as a power sports mechanic. He was employed as a motorcycle mechanic and in customer service at Cycles R Us in Chippewa Lake. Ryan was a motorcycle enthusiast, he loved working and modifify them and was preparing to open his own shop called Pure Adrenaline Motor Sports. He was a member of Camden Baptist Church. Ryan loved spending time with his family and friends, he especially loved the time he spent with his nephew and nieces Anna, Ben, and Mariah.

Ryan leaves to cherish his memory his parents James and Margie A. Woodrum (nee: Brotherton) of Camden Township; his brothers and their wives Adam and Amanda, Chad and Rachael Woodrum; his sister and her husband Jill and Brett Davis; his paternal grandparents James and Marian Woodrum all of Camden Township and his maternal grandmother Phyllis Brotherton of Vermilion.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, George Brotherton on July 24, 2010.

Friends may call Friday May 27, 2011 from 2 -4 and 6-9 p.m. and Saturday, May 28, 2011 from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11:00 at the Camden Baptist Church; 17901 State Route 511, Wellington. The Rev. Larry Nocella, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Camden Cemetery, Camden Township.

The family suggests that in lieu of flowers memorial contributions be made any First Merit Bank; c/o Ryan Woodrum Memorial Fund.

Jack A. Strehle, Sr.
(September 27, 1938 - May 25, 2011)
U.S. Veteran
Jack A. Strehle, Sr., 72 years of age, and a resident of Vermilion, passed away suddenly Wednesday, May 25, 2011.

He was born September 27, 1938 in Lorain where he lived most of his life and attended Clearview High School. Vermilion has been his home for the last ten years.

Jack was honored to serve with the United States Army during the Korean Conflict with the Tank Battalion. After serving in the military, he was employed with the TRW/Nelson Stud Division for thirty-five years retiring in 1999 as a lead man. Jack was a lifetime member of the Lorain Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #451. He enjoyed driving his restored 1934 Plymouth Coupe to car shows and watching NASCAR events. He, also, enjoyed watching the Cleveland Indians and taking trips to Fripp Island in South Carolina with his family. He loved spending time with his family and especially his grandchildren.

Jack leaves to cherish his memory his sons Jack A. Strehle, Jr. of Vermilion, Jeffrey C. Strehle of Cleveland, Joseph B. Strehle and his wife, Tracey, of Amherst, John E. Strehle of Lorain, and Jerry D. Strehle and his companion, Tami Donahoe, of Wickliffe, Ohio; his grandchildren Alyscia, Joshua, Brianna, Jorden, Tayler, Jobi, and Jade; three great grandchildren; his brother James Strehle of Sheffield Lake; and his sister Diane Gonzalez of Florida.

He was preceded in death by his parents Orville and Wilma Strehle (nee: Wagner); and by his former wife Mary Lou Strehle (nee: Gawlik) in 1999.

Friends may call Tuesday, May 31, 2011, from 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 p.m. at the Hempel Funeral Home; 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 1, 2011, at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. The Rev. William Y. Williams, associate pastor of Church of the Open Door in Elyria, will officiate. military Honors will be performed by the Lorain Veterans military Honor Guard. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.

Rebecca Ann King
(August 5, 1952 - May 26, 2011)
Rebecca Ann Hughett (nee: King), 58 years of age, and a resident of Amherst Township, passed away Thursday, May 26, 2011 at the New Life Hospice Residential Center in Lorain following a 5 ½ year illness with cancer.

She was born August 5, 1952 in Charleston, West Virginia. Coming to Lorain County as an infant, Rebecca was raised in Amherst Township where she lived most of her life and graduated from Marion L. Steele High School with Honors in 1971. She then graduated from Lorain County Community College with a two-year degree.

Rebecca work for the Wendy's Corp. Managing various restaurants for ten years. She then served as an accountant for the Nacs Corp. in Oberlin for four years before retiring. With a family history of kidney problems, she was an active supporter of the American Kidney Foundation and enjoyed supporting the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Her hobbies included traveling, yard work, landscaping and remodeling.

Survivors include her husband of twenty-two years Roy Hughett; her stepdaughters and their husbands Mary Ellen and Mike Wilson of Florence Township and Amanda and Ronnie Hudson of Elyria; four step grandchildren; and her sister Karen King of Sheffield Township.

She was preceded in death by her parents Hershel and Inez King (nee: Hunter); and by a sister Lisa Marie King.

Funeral services will be held privately by the family. Burial will be at Ridge Hill Memorial Park in Amherst Township

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made in her name to American Cancer Society; North Regional Office; 10501 Euclid Ave., Cleveland, OH 44106 or the Cleveland Clinic Foundation.

James Evan Belcher
(August 8, 1939 - May 27, 2011)
James Evan Belcher, 71 years of age, and a resident of Burgin, Kentucky, and husband of Mary Ann Syrowski Belcher, passed away Friday, May 27, 2011 at his home.

He was born August 8, 1939 in Pike County, he was the son of the late Bernie (Bunch) and Dixie (Hackney) Belcher Mathney.

He retired after thirty years from General Motors. James was a member of the St. Andrew Catholic Church. He enjoyed working, farming and NASCAR.

Survivors include his wife Mary Ann Syrowski; his son James Scott Belcher of Burgin, Kentucky; his daughter Denise Lyn Belcher of Georgetown; his sister Geniva Hylton of Elkhorn City and two grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his brother Oral Belcher and his sister Ann Ray Bartley.

Friends may call Tuesday, May 31, 2011 from 12:30 p.m. until the time of the funeral service at 2:00 p.m. at the Hempel Funeral Home; 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst. The Rev. Fr. James Tezie, of Nativity Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church of South Amherst, will officiate. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Amherst.

Ariel "Bud" E. Butcher
(August 2, 1937 - July 21, 2011)
Ariel "Bud" E. Butcher, 73 years of age, and a resident of Lorain and Birch River, West Virginia, passed away Thursday, July 21, 2011 at Life Care Center of Westlake following a long illness.

He was born in the mountains of Dille, West Virginia on August 2, 1937. He spent most of his adult life in Northern Ohio, where he worked diligently at Ford Motor Company for over thirty-four years eventually retiring in 1994. Bud was undeniably social and outgoing; he was always the first to extend an introduction to strangers, making lifelong friendships with his signature wit, smile, and homemade peanut butter fudge. He was a passionate and dedicated father, emphasizing the values of education, empathy, and kindness. Because of his modest upbringing, he took great pride in aiding others in need. In his free time, he felt most at home when he was outdoors, enjoying hunting, tending to animals, and enjoying nature's splendor.

Survivors include his loving wife of twenty-seven years Michele Butcher (nee: McNamara); his daughters Melissa Ann Butcher of Columbia, Maryland and Melanie Audra Butcher of Amaan, Jordon; his grandchildren Timothy, William, and Reneé; his great grandchild, Jacob, his sisters Anna Butcher, Shari Taylor, and Karen (Ralph) Butcher-Samples, all of Roanoke, Virginia; and a large extended family that were also touched by his life and spirit.

He was preceded in death by his sons Wyatt Mitchell Butcher in February, 2001 and Michael Allen Butcher in November, 2008; his parents Audrey H. and Maysel Butcher (nee: Comer); by his brother Kessel Rose Butcher; and by his sister Sylvia Stanton.

Friends may call Tuesday, July 26, 2011 from 2 - 4 and 6 - 8 p.m. at the Hempel Funeral Home; 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 27, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Pastors Wallace Justice and James Justice, both of Christian Life Church of God in Lorain, will officiate. His burial and final resting place will be in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township.

James W. Mackin
(August 2, 1921 - July 24, 2011)
U.S. Veteran
James W. Mackin, 89 years of age, and a resident of Amherst, passed away Sunday, July 24, 2011 at the New Life Hospice Residential Center in Lorain following a short illness.

He was born August 2, 1921 in Lorain where he was raised. Amherst has been his home since 1970.

James proudly served his country with the United States Navy during World War II in the Atlantic and Pacific Theater serving on a mine sweeper. He was a lifetime member of the Ohio Operating Engineers Local #18 in Cleveland, retiring in 1983 as a heavy equipment mechanic and operator. He was also a member of the Amherst Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #1662, and the Lorain County Democratic Party. Lovingly known as "PaPa the Cookie Man" to his grandchildren, James was dedicated to his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren and treasured the time he spent with them.

James leaves to cherish his memory his daughters Kaye Spillman of South Amherst and Sue Paller and her husband, Wayne, of Amherst; his grandchildren and their spouses Ted and Michelle Spillman, Lynn and Donald Schmitz, Jim and Devin Paller, and Cindy and Nate Randolph; and seven great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 55 years Joyce Mackin (nee: Sands) in 2003; by his parents John and Agnes Mackin (nee: Barke); and by six brothers and seven sisters.

Friends may call Tuesday, July 26, 2011 from 4 - 8 p.m. at the Hempel Funeral Home; 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 27, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home. The Amherst Veterans military Honor Guard will perform honors. The Rev. Art Conrad, pastor of Rochester Baptist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Amherst.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph; 5255 North Abbe Rd., Elyria, OH 44035 or the Rainbow Babies and Childrens Hospital; 11100 Euclid Ave., Cleveland, OH 44106.

Albert Roemer Tyson
(September 7, 1923 - July 25, 2011)
Albert Roemer Tyson, 87 years of age, and a resident of Vermilion, passed away Monday, July 25, 2011, at Lake Point Health Care in Lorain following a on going battle with cancer.

He was born September 7, 1923, in Lorain, Ohio. Albert was raised in Amherst and graduated from Amherst High School in the class of 1941. He had lived in Lorain and Cleveland before moving to Vermilion where he had made his home since 1984.

Albert was employed at Thew Shovel in Lorain and at Merika and Company for over twenty years before retiring as a bookkeeper. He was an active member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Vermilion where he served as a Eucharist minister to the shut-ins, a reader at mass and enjoyed the time he spent caring for the church grounds. Albert volunteered at the Lorain Catholic Charity Society. He enjoyed spending time with his friends attending opera's. His hobbies included music and gardening. Albert had an amazing memory and was able to recall sections of Shakespeare that he had learned as a young man.

Survivors include his nephews Edward Long, M.D. And his wife Linda of Cincinnati, Ohio, James Long of Lorain and his niece Holly J. Long and her husband Richard Dvorscak of Lorain; twelve great nieces and nephews and fourteen great great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his companion of fifty-six years Robert W. Richards in 2006; his niece Linda Lee Roark in 1995; his sister Janice E. Long in 1994; and by his father Herman Tyson in 1953; his mother Alma M. Tyson -Breckenridge (nee: Roemer) in 1981; and by his step father Elmer Breckenridge in 1975.

A Memorial Mass will be held Saturday, August 6, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church; 731 Exchange Street, Vermilion.

Graveside Services was held privately by the family Thursday, July 28, 2011, at Maple Grove Cemetery in Vermilion. The Rev. Fr. Ron Brickner, pastor of St. Mary Catholic Church in Vermilion, will officiate.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society; North Regional Office; 10501 Euclid Avenue, Cleveland, OH 44106 or St. Mary Catholic Church; 731 Exchange Street, Vermilion, Ohio 44089.
