VELLA STORER
We Pause today to pay tribute and respect to one who has entered into a greater life. Vella Agnes Storer, daughter of the late William H. and Fannie (Rivers) Waldren, was born March 26, 1903, near White Oake in Adams County. She departed this life Tuesday, August 27, 1996, at the age of 93 years. Her sisters Bertha, Stella and Myrtle and brothers Albert and Earl preceded her in death. She was a member of the Peebles Church of Christ. Vella was united in marriage to Christopher P. Storer, Jr., February 16, 1927. Her husband preceded her in death June 18, 1981. She was a loving wife and mother, always ready to sacrifice for her loved ones. She leaves to mourn her passsing two daughters, Eileen (Joe) Wallingford, Columbus, and Eunice Webb, Cedarville; grandchildren Mark and Betty Webb, Neal Wallingford, Elaine and Bob Gillette, Kevin and Amy Webb; five great-grandhildren, Greg, Kathlyn, Matthew and Sarah Webb and Eric Gillette; and sisters-in-law Florence Layer of Centerville and Mabel Hays of Peebles. God in His great wisdom has taken our loved one and we must submit to His will. She will be greatly missed by family and friends.
JAMES SUTTERFIELD
James Madison Sutterfield, a highly respected resident of Ishawooa, expired Saturday night at 5:45 o'clock after a years illness with a complication of diseases. He has been afflicted with prostate glands and went to Hot Springs, South Dakota last winter for treatment and operation. His condition, however, did not warrant the operation and he returned to Park County, in impaired health. He caught cold, which settled in his head and caused an affectation of the brain. Mr. Sutterfield was born 74 years ago at Wilksville, Adams county Ohio, but went to Illinois at an early age, where he volunteered for Civil War service; being a member of the 17th Illinois regiment for over three years. He lived twenty-five years in Iowa and South Dakota and has been in this section of Wyoming the last four years. He is survived by the following children out the the twelve born to himself and wife: Orville of Texas, Fred in California, Edward in South Dakota; Albert of Chadron, Nebr, and J.W. Sutterfield of Ishawooa; Mrs. Anne Oskins of Missouri and Nancy Wolf of Iowa. The son Albert arrived here Tuesday to attend the funeral. The funeral took place Wednesday morning, with the Cody Masons in charge. Rev. Mr. Dunn preached the discourse and the remains were laid to rest in the Cody cemetery.

PAUL SWAYNE
Paul Dennis Swayne was born on May 12 1934, one of eleven children born to the late Bill and Ona Freeze Swayne. Dennis was a proud graduate of Franklin High School in the class of 1952. On December 12, 1953, he married Shirley Swisshelm and to this union were born four children; Pam, Denise, Denny and Alan. Dennis was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Russell, Lloyd and Lester, and sister Weltha Daulton. He is suvived by his wife Shirley, daughter and son-in-law, Pam and Mike McFarland, daughter and son-in-law, Denise and Al Roettele; son and daughter-in-law, Alan and Kim Swayne, grandchildren, Amy McFarland, Coleen, Cody and Cara Roettele, Michael, Dee and Kerry Swayne, Blake and Garrett Swayne. He is also survived by sisters, Zelma Knauff, Opal Browning, Eramalene Rhoads, and Kay Cofer; brothers, Dean and Lowell Swayne. Dennis served his family and his community well. He was a volunteer fireman on the Franklin Township Fire Department for 34 years and was a construction worker for 33 years. He retired from his construction work in 1988 due to heart disease. To further complicate his health, he was diagnosed with cancer on March 13, 2000. Dennis served his Lord as well as a member of Union Hill Church. Loving and kind in all his ways. Upright and just to the end of his day. Sincere and true in heart and mind. Beautiful memories he leaves behind. Dennis loved people, most especially his grandchildren. He will sadly be missed by all who knew him.
MILDRED TENER
Mildred A. Tener, 92, of the Locust Grove community, died Thursday, Nov. 7, 2002, at the Laurels of Hillsboro. She was born in Adams County on Aug 1, 1910, the daughter of the late Edgar and Elizabeth (Newman) Lawrence. She was a member of the Conaway Chapel United Methodist Church and the UMW. Survivors include four daughters and sons-in-law, Glenna and Charles Lindsey of Greenfield, Willa Jean and Claude Coulter of Washington Court House, Martha and Eugene Herdman of Peebles, Elizabeth and Bob Fulton of Hillsboro; one sister, Bonnie Smith of Columbus; one brother, Norman Lawrence of Indiana; five granchildren, Deborah (Ed) Williams of South Solon, Brenda (Dan) Ervin of Washington Court House, Russell (Debra) Lindsey of Washington Court House, Connie (Ned) Lewis of Hillsboro and Donna Herdman of South Charleston; and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, J. Russell Tener, who died Dec. 13, 1985; one daughter, Juanita Tener; one sister, Melva Cobler; two brothers, Edgar Lawrence and Charles E. Lawrence. Services were held Sunday, Nov. 10, at the Wylie-Thompson Funeral Home in Sinking Spring with Phil Fulton officiating. Burial took place in the Locust Grove Cemetery. DWAYNE THOMPSON
Dwayne W. Thompson, 18, of West Union, died Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2002, at the Adams County Hospital in West Union. He was born in Georgetown [Brown Co OH] on April 24, 1984, the son of Dwayne E. and Ruth (Newman) Thompson. Survivors include his parents; one brother, Jeremiah Thompson of West Union, maternal grandmother, Myra Hesler of Dayton; maternal great-grandmother, Ann Newman of Peebles; maternal grandfather, Jim Hesler of Dayton; paternal grandfather, Robert Thompson of Otway; paternal granmother Rebecca Blanton of Blue Creek; paternal great-grandparents, James and Edna Parker of Peebles; paternal great-grandmother, Evelyn Boldman of Otway; one step-great-grandmother, Ida Penix of Lucasville; several aunts, uncles, great-aunts, uncles, cousins and a host of friends. Services were held Friday, Sept. 27, at the Wallace-Thompson Funeral Home in Peebles with Pete Francis and Randy Hayslip officiating. Burial took place in Locust Grove Cemetery.
CHESTER TOLLE
Chester "Donnie" Tolle, 45, of Peebles, died Saturday, December 9, 2001, at Adams County Hospital. He was born in Peebles on December 15, 1955, son of the late Chester and Wilma (Riddle) Tolle. He worked for the Village of Peebles Water Department for 20 years. Survivors included three sons, Chris Tolle and Luke Tolle, both of Peebles, Robin Tolle of Cherry Fork; his companion, Timberly Bradley of Peebles; two stepchildren, Donnie Bradley and Aunna Riddle, both of Peebles; one brother John Tolle of Peebles; two half brothers, Tom Riddle of West Union and Bill Riddle of Peebles; one sister, Debbie Ward of Florida; two grandchildren and two step grandchildren. Services were held Monday December 10 at Wallace-Thompson Funeral Home in Peebles.

ROBIN TOLLE
Robin "Smurf" Tolle, 27, of Peebles, died Sunday February 1st, 2004. Robin was born on December 26, 1976, in Cincinnati, Ohio. Robin was preceded in death by his father, Donald Tolle, and paternal grandmother, Wilma Tolle. Survivors include one son, Douglas Bryce Tolle of Blue Creek; mother, Sara (Badgett) Stout of Peebles; two brothers, Chris Tolle of Huber Heights OH, and Luke Tolle of Peebles; one nephew, Jimmy Tolle of Huber Heights; maternal grandmother Carolyn Tolle of Mineral Springs; three uncles, Bill Riddle and John Tolle both of Peebles, and Tom Riddle of Portsmouth OH; two aunts, Merrie Turner of Minford OH and Debbie Ward of Florida; two great-uncles, David McFarland of Montgomery AL and Earl McFarland of Louisville KY. Robin was a lineman with the A.C.I. Cable Company in Columbus OH, an employee of the Jack McCoy Lumber Co. and various sawmills throughout Adams County.

STELLA TOLLE
Stella Mae Tolle, 83 years, of Peebles, died Wednesday, December 11, 2002, at the Highland District Hospital in Hillsboro. She was born in Peebles, Ohio, on December 24, 1918, the daughter of the late Sam and Jennie (Wittenmeyer) Purtee. She was a member of the Peebles Church of Christ in Christian Union. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Tolle; two sons, Teddy Tolle, Ronald Tolle; and one daughter, Linda Kay Rowe. She is survived by six sons, David Tolle of Peebles, Russell Tolle of California, Joe Tolle of Peebles, Randy Tolle of Pike County, Rick Tolle of Peebles, Tim Tolle of Peebles; one daughter, Geraldine Tolle of Xenia; one sister, Audra Thomas of Ft. Thomas, Kentucky; eighteen grandchildren, twenty-four great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, December 15, 2002, at 3:00 P.M. at the Peebles Church of Christ in Christian Union, with Dave Hopkins officiating. Burial will follow in the Locust Grove Cemetery. Friends may call on Sunday from 1:00 till 3:00 P.M. at the Peebles Church of Christ in Christian Union. Wallace-Thompson Funeral Home in Peebles is in charge of arrangements.

GARY TOMLIN
Gary Tomlin, 55, of West Union, died Thursday, Oct. 7, 1999, at the Adams County Hospital in West Union. He was born May 18, 1944, in West Union, the son of the late Thurman and Minnie (Yazell) Tomlin. He was a farmer and former construction worker as well as Commander of the Adams County DAV Chapter 71, and Commander of the Peebles VFW Post 1029, and a U.S. Army Sergeant and vertan from the Vietnam era. Survivors include his wife, Connie Tomlin of West Union; one son, Gary Matthew Tomlin of West Union; one daughter, Amey Michelle Tomlin of West Union; one grandson; five brothers, Thurman Earl Tomlin of Cincinnati, George Tomlin of Jonesboro, Ind., Dallas Tomlin of Bentonville, David Tomlin of Manchester and Paul Douglas Tomlin of West Union; six sisters, Alta Marie Leoanrd and Martha Grooms, both of Manchester, Helen Cluxton of Russellville, Mary Abbott of Dayton, Golda Allen of Port Richey, Fla., and Sue Huntley of Coloden, W.Va.; and two aunts. Funeral services were held Monday, Oct. 11, at the Lafferty Funeral Home in West Union, with Richard Williams officiating. Burial followed at the Kirker Cemetery in West Union, with military graveside services conducted by the Adams County Honor Guard. Visitation was held Sunday at the funeral home.
JOEL TREBER
Joel Treber, resident of the eastern part of Tiffin Twp. all his life, died last Sun. morning at 9 o'clock. He was born at the Treber homestead on Lick Fork, Nov. 30, 1823, his father moving to the premises of the deceased while he was yet young and where he continued to reside until death. Married Ann McFeters in May 1844. Eight children, six of whom survive. [NB: No names given except son, R. W. Treber, a dry goods merchant.] Funeral services conducted at the home of the deceased by Rev. J. W. Shumaker and burial in Odd Fellows Cemetery, West Union.

JOHN TRENNER
John Trenner, 92-year-old retired farmer of Rt. l, Peebles, died at 5 a.m. Wednesday, Aug 16 [1968], in Chillicothe Hospital following a ten-days illness. A native of Ross County, he was born Aug 15, 1876, a son of William and Lucinda (Cooper) Trenner. In March 1914, he married the former Julia Cave, who died June 11, 1961. Surviving are five daughters, Mrs. Gladys Houghland, and Mrs. Nora Grooms, both of Rt. 1, Peebles, Mrs. Ethel Woods of Jeffersonville, Mrs. Mabel Blackburn of Rt. 1, Highland, and Mrs. Zelma Havens of Rt. 1, Piketon; two sons, George Trenner of Columbus and Albert Trenner of Washington C.H., O.; 29 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by one daughter, three brothers and four sisters. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Beavers Chapel Church with Rev. Homer Swearingen of Bainbridge officiating. Burial will follow in Lapparel Cemetery under the direction of the A. H. Boyer Funeral Home. Friends may call at the funeral home after 4 p.m. Thursday until the funeral hour.

LEONARD TROUTMAN
In memory of Leonard Troutman who was born July 3, 1840, and departed this life Jan. 15, 1906, aged 65 yrs, 6 mo. and 12 days. He was of German parentage, being born in Darmstadt Germany and emigrated to America with his parents when 12 years of age, coming first to Penn., after which he moved to Ohio and for thirty years has been a resident of Adams Co. He was a soldier of the civil war, being a private of Co. K, 193 regiment of Ohio. He leaves a wife and one son, John Troutman, of Fullerton, Ky., and two daughters, Mrs. Ada B. Thompson of Fullerton, Ky., and Mrs. Ida M. Johnson of Blue Creek, Adams County, to mourn his loss.

LELA TURNER
Lela Elva Nichols Turner of Oklahoma City, Okla, passed away July 14, 2001. She was born Oct. 6, 1905, at the family farm home in Adams County near Peebles, Ohio, the third of 12 children to Joe Nichols and Iva Purtee Shoemaker Nichols. She attended school at the one-room Peach Mt. School House. Later Lela and her older sister Opal moved to Portsmouth, Ohio, where they worked at a shoe factory. Then they moved to Louisville, Ky., where Lela met her husband, Clayton Turner. They moved in 1927; heard of the oil boom headed for Oklahoma in 1929. Clayton passed away in 1972. Lela became affiliated with Oklahoma Poetry Society and her poems appeared in numerous publications including Red Earth, Christian Poet, Daily Oklahoman, and The Chipmunk. She was active in Toastmistress Club, and at age 74 was awarded first prize in Oklahoma state competition. She was a member of Ridgecrest Methodist Church. She is survived by two sons, Bobby and Buddy, six grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
