Violet May Schultz-Roberts
(March 28, 1934 - August 26, 2011)
Violet May Schultz-Roberts (nee: Brucker), 77 years of age, and a resident of South Ogden, Utah and formerly of South Amherst, passed away on Friday August 26, 2011, following a lengthy illness.

She was born March 28, 1934, in Amherst, Ohio. Violet was raised in Amherst and graduated from Amherst High School in the class of 1953. As a young woman, Violet moved to South Amherst before moving to Utah where she had made her home since 1998.

Violet was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Lorain and a member of the Mormon Church in Utah. Violet along with her husband loved traveling in their RV across the country. Her hobbies included reading, word scrabble and doing crosswords.

Violet leaves to cherish her memory her husband of thirteen years Herber J. Grant Roberts; her sons and their wives; Thomas and Marj Schultz of Bloomington, Indiana, Richard Schultz of South Amherst, David Schultz and his companion Helen of Florence Township, Norman and Tammy Schultz of Amherst; her daugthers and their husbands Sharyl and Tim Brush of Elyria, Barbara and Charles Allomong of Wakeman, Mary Ellen and Michael Forsyth of Carlisle, Pennsylvania, and Carolyn and Jason Monsul of Westerville, Oh; her stepsons and their wives Jeffrey and Claudia Roberts and Bradley and Tammy Roberts all of Utah; eighteen grandchildren; and five great grandchildren and three step great grandchildren.

She was preceded by her son Michael Schultz in 1963; her grandson Jessie Schultz in 2005; her brother Walter E. Brucker; her sister Jeanette Morrow; her half brothers John Slack, Harold Slack, Charles Slack and her parents Walter G. and Ellen Brucker (nee: Tolhurst).

Friends may call Saturday, September 3, 2011, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. at the Hempel Funeral Home; 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst. The Bishop James Wells of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, will officiate. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, South Amherst.

Gloria Shibley
(September 30, 1923 - March 12, 2012)
Gloria Shibley (nee: Hill) 88 years of age, passed away at New Life Hospice Residential Center in Lorain on March 12, 2012 surrounded by her family.

Gloria was born on September 30, 1923 to Lee and Hilda Hill in Amherst, Ohio, although she lived most of her life in Lorain, Ohio.

She graduated from Lorain High School and began working at The Lorain Journal where she met Alfred Charles Shibley. They married and had two daughters.

Gloria was a talented and accomplished self taught artist, winning awards for her paintings. She considered herself primarily a painter, however she also wrote poetry, approaching her poetry as paintings using words instead of paint. She was also a doll maker and had a keen interest in home decorating, creating a beautiful home for her family. Gloria was loved by so many and will be greatly missed.

Survivors include her daughter, Cheryl "Sherry" Kay Shibley ; grandchildren Meghan Rubinstein (Mark), Cory Riordan (Betsy) and Andrew Cook; great grandchildren Ella, Micah, Carter, and Cami; a very special cousin, Joy Ashmus, a wonderful niece Kelley Levi (Steve); half daughter Janice Edreff (Dan); their children, Bill, Rick, Kim, Pam and their families.

She was preceded in death by her husband A.C. Shibley, daughter Deborah Lee Cook; sister Yvonne Walters, brother-in-law Ralph Walters and two brothers Stacey Warner and Bob Hill.

Friends may call Saturday, March 17, 2012 from 11:00 a.m. until the funeral service at 1:00 p.m. at the Hempel Funeral Home; 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst. The Rev. N. James Greenawalt, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township.

The family suggests that memorial contributions in Gloria's memory may be made to New Life Hospice Center; 5255 North Abbe Road, Elyria, OH 44035.

Dorothy Lorraine Harbaugh
(July 27, 1936 - March 14, 2012)
Dorothy Lorraine Harbaugh (nee: Husak), 75 years of age, and a resident of Wellington, was called home to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, March 14, 2012, at Keystone Pointe in LaGrange. She placed her trust in Jesus Christ receiving His gift of eternal life at the age of 21 and has traded her worn earthly body for a perfect heavenly one and is now basking in the presence of her Lord.

Born July 27, 1936 in Mt. Pleasant, Pennsylvania, Dorothy had made her home in Lima and Wellington for the last fifty two-years.

Dorothy's primary focus in life was that of living a life pleasing to her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Dorothy was a member of Camden Baptist Church where she was active with the Ladies Missionary Society, Naomi Circle, and an Awana Club teacher. She was also active with the Joy Clubs and Child Evangelism Fellowship. Dorothy was a prayer warrior and led adult ladies Bible studies. In her spare time she enjoyed baking, canning, cooking, gardening, painting with water colors, and sewing. She devoted her life to being a God-honoring wife and mother and treasured the time spent with her family. Throughout her life Dorothy sought opportunities to share her faith with others - a faith that was grounded in Gods word. Her hope was that all would experience the peace that she knew by placing their trust in Jesus Christ alone for their eternal security in heaven.

Dorothy leaves to cherish her memory her sons and their wives Rev. William Bradford "Brad" and Robin Harbaugh of Raleigh, North Carolina, Doyle Edwin and Tammara Harbaugh of Wakeman, Joel Scott and Tracy Harbaugh of Dayton; six grandchildren; and six great grandchildren; her brother and his wife Larry and Joyce Husak; sisters Jessie Husak and Doris and her husband Don Johns all of Mt. Pleasant, Pennsylvania.

She was preceded in death by her husband of forty-eight years William Graden Harbaugh on April 4, 2004; and her parents Fred and Nettie Husak (nee: Snyder) and brother Joseph Clyde Husak.

Friends may call Saturday, March 17, 2012, from 5-8 p.m. and Sunday from 2 until the time of the memorial at 3 p.m. at the Camden Township Hall; 50679 SR 303, Oberlin. Services will continue Monday, March 19 from the Mt. Zion Community Church in Acme, PA with visitation from 11 a.m. until the time of service at 1 p.m. The Rev. Brad Harbaugh of Colonial Baptist Church in Cary, North Carolina, will officiate. Burial will be in Indian Creek Baptist Church Cemetery, Mill Run, Pennsylvania.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Camden Baptist Church Building Restoration Fund; 17901 St. Rt. 511, Wellington, OH 44090.

Donna J Groves
(September 7, 1927 - March 15, 2012)
Donna J. Groves (nee: Curl), 84 years of age, and a resident of Lorain, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, March 15, 2012 at Kingston of Vermilion following a brief illness.

She was born September 7, 1927 in Champagne, Illinois. Donna had made her home in Lorain for the last sixty years.

Donna's primary focus in life was that of being a homemaker. She was a former member of Foursquare Church in Amherst where she taught Sunday School and was the choir director for many years. Donna had a strong faith and had trusted the Lord as her personal Savior. She loved music and tending to her garden. Her greatest joy in life was raising her family.

Survivors include her husband of sixty-four years Darrell J. (Jack) Groves; her daughters Jill Cooksey and her husband Steve of Amherst, Jan Straw and her husband Daniel of Lorain and Susan Groves of Elyria; her grandchildren Jacqueline (Lance), Gregory, Jonathon (Betsy) and Daniel; and two great grandchildren Kate and Owen.

She was preceded in death by her parents Owen and Mary Curl (nee: Blackburn).

Friends may call Monday, March 19, 2012, from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral at 12:00 at the Hempel Funeral Home; 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst. Burial will be in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township.

Deborah Kolenda
(April 20, 1951 - March 26, 2012)
Deborah Kolenda (nee: Farley), 60 years of age, and a resident of Amherst, passed away Monday, March 26, 2012 at EMH Regional Medical Center in Elyria following a lengthy illness.

She was born April 20, 1951 in Williamson, West Virginia. Deborah was raised in Lorain and graduated from Admiral King High School in the class of 1970. She had made her home in Amherst for the last twenty-two years.

Deborah was employed as an inspector at Lorain Products for twenty-seven years. She had a giving spirit and was known as a loving and gentle woman.

Survivors include her husband of twenty-two years Vernon Dale Kolenda; stepson Paul D. Kolenda of Florida; and mother Patsey Farley (nee: Stanley) of Lorain.

She was preceded in death by her father Reaford Farley; and her brother Stanley Farley.

Friends may call Friday, March 30, 2012 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Hempel Funeral Home; 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst. Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 31, 2012, at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made in Deborah's memory to the charity of their choice.

Edith Emily Haag
(May 19, 1922 - March 29, 2012)
Edith Emily Haag (nee: Gutosky), 89 years of age, and a resident of Amherst, passed away Thursday, March 29, 2012 at Amherst Manor Nursing Home.

She was born May 19, 1922 in Vermilion, Ohio. Edith was raised in Lorain County and graduated from Brownhelm Township High School in the class of 1940. She had made her home in Amherst for the last seventeen years.

Edith was employed at the Morning Journal in Lorain in the proofreading department for ten years before retiring in 1977. She was also employed at TJ Hume Company and the FW Woolworth Company. Edith attended Fellowship Baptist Church and was a former member of Broadway Baptist Church both in Lorain. In her younger years, Edith was an active bowler and participated in several leagues. She enjoyed crocheting and needlework.

Survivors include her son and his wife Robert and Twilla Haag of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; two grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband of fifty years Basel Haag on May 9, 1992; her sons Richard Haag in 2011, Roger Haag in 1968; her sisters Marlene Backus, Emma VanHorn, Sandra Sebok and by her parents August and Lydia Gutosky (nee: Naelitz).

Friends may call Monday, April 2, 2012 from 10:00 am until the time of the funeral service at 12:00 p.m. at the Hempel Funeral Home; 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst. The Rev. Paul Mayo, of Fellowship Baptist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery, Lorain.

Jerry D. Neely
(November 21, 1958 - April 1, 2012)
Jerry D. "Haney" Neely, 53 years of age, and a resident of Amherst, passed away Sunday, April 1, 2012, at New Life Hospice Residence Center of Lorain, following a lengthy illness.

Jerry was born November 21, 1958, in Amherst, Ohio, where he attended South Amherst schools before moving to North Carolina in 1985. In 2003 he moved back to his hometown of Amherst.

Jerry worked for J & J & D Builders and Contractors in Metal Framing. He attended Old Fashioned Grace Baptist Church. As a sportsman, he loved to fish and hunt. He also enjoyed NASCAR and restoring antique cars. Jerry was a loving, goodhearted person.

He leaves to cherish his memory his daughter Krista Neely of Vermilion, Ohio; his grandchildren, Giovanni James, Alexis Amann, and Jasmine Flores; his mother, Alpha Grace Blackburn (nee; New) and stepfather Everett Ryan of Corona, California; brothers, Kenneth (Leeta) Neely of Henrietta Township, James (Jackie) Neely of Raleigh, North Carolina; and his sister Wanda "Kay" Strader of Amherst Township.

Jerry was preceded in death by his father Hollon Fred Neely in 2007.

Friends may call Wednesday, April 4, 2012, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Hempel Funeral Home; 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst. Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 5, at 11:00 a.m. from the funeral home. The Rev. Farrell Keith, pastor of Grace Baptist Church, South Amherst, Ohio, will officiate. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, South Amherst, Ohio.

Virginia Catherine Warner
(May 16, 1923 - April 3, 2012)
Virginia Catherine Warner (nee: Henencheck), 88 years of age, and a resident of Lorain, passed away Tuesday, April 3, 2012 at Elmcroft Senior Living with New Life Hospice.

She was born May 16, 1923, in Lorain, Ohio. Virginia was raised and graduated from Lorain High in the class of 41B. She had made her home in Lorain for fifty years before moving to Amherst in 1970.

As a young woman, Virginia was employed at General Industries in Elyria. She retired as a nursing assistant from the former St. Joseph Hospital in Lorain in 1984 after 22 years of service. She was a former member of St. Anthony's Church in Lorain and after moving to Amherst she became a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church. She was very spiritual and loved the Lord. She could be seen at St. Joseph's several times a week. Virginia loved being a resident of Amherst. She enjoyed taking long walks downtown and made many friends along the way. Virginia was an accomplished roller skater and over the years she won many ribbons and medals for dance skating. She continued to participated in skating until the age of 82. She cherished the friendships she had made over the years at Skate World in Lorain. She considered them her extended family. Virginia also enjoyed playing the piano and meeting Liberace was a special moment for her. She was a devoted wife and mother and her proudest accomplishment was raising her four children whom she cherished.

Survivors include her sons Darryl E. Warner of Dublin, Ohio, Robert E. Warner of Santa Barbara, California, James T. Warner of Elyria; her daughter Cynthia Warner of Westlake; four grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and her sister Mary Alice Malone of Elyria. She also leaves behind her devoted grand-dog, Nikki.

She was preceded in death by her husband of sixty-three years Edward H. Warner on February 6, 2010; brother Alvin Henencheck; sister Dorothy Fisher and by her parents Alexander and Catherine Henencheck (nee: Mazur).

Friends may call Monday, April 9, 2012 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Hempel Funeral Home; 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst. Closing prayers will be held Tuesday, April 10, 2012 at 9:30 a.m. at the funeral home, with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church; 200 St. Joseph Drive, Amherst. The Rev. Fr. Lawrence Martello, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to New Life Hospice Center; 5255 North Abbe Road, Elyria, OH 44035.
