Erma J. Merschdorf
Erma J. (nee Crone) Merschdorf, 96 of Elyria formerly of the Ashland-Mansfield area died on Tuesday, May 17, 2005, at Elyria Methodist Village in Elyria, OH following a brief illness.
Mrs. Merschdorf was born on October 25, 1908, in Hayesville, OH and graduated from Loudonville High School. After her marriage she moved to Mansfield where she lived the majority of her life. She had been employed at the Reed Department Store in downtown Mansfield. She then worked for Westinghouse Corp, retiring in 1973 with more than 25 years as an addressograph operator. She moved to northern Lorain County eleven years ago.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Mansfield, the Ruth Circle and Westinghouse Retiree's. In Lorain, she was a member of Wimodaughsis. She enjoyed traveling, especially her thirteen trips to Hawaii, crocheting, knitting, cooking and interacting with people.
Mrs. Merschdorf is survived by her son, Richard M. Merschdorf of Kailua-Kona, Hawaii, 4 grandchildren and her caregivers and nieces Sue Kayle of Lorain, Nancy Stark of Vermilion and Virginia Darrah of Louisville, KY.
She is preceded in death by her husband Martin Merschdorf in Feb 2, 1959, daughter Karen Reinehr in 1981, her parents Thomas and Nettie (nee McKinley) Crone, sisters Kathryn Bunting and Mildred Neiding.
Memorial services will be held on Thursday, May 19, 2005, at 4:00 PM in the Chapel in the Elyria Methodist Village, 807 West Ave., Elyria, OH 44035, with Chaplain Beth McKee officiating.
Graveside services will be on Friday, May 20, 2005, at 1:00 PM in Mansfield Memorial Park Cemetery, Mansfield with Rev. Charles E. Tobias, pastor of the First United Methodist Church in Mansfield officiating.
The family suggest that memorial contributions may be made to the Community Health Partners Regional Foundation/New Life Hospice, 3700 Kolbe Road, Lorain, Ohio 44053 or Elyria United Methodist Village, 807 West Ave., Elyria, Ohio, 44035

Frances C. Elder
Frances C. (nee Brown) Elder, 83, passed away December 17, 2005, at the Nathan Adleson Hospice of Las Vagas, NV. She was born February 7th, 1922 in Norfolk, VA. Lived most of her life in Lorain County. When her husband was living they had a summer home on Catawba Island, Ohio and spent winters around the Eustis, FL area.
She was a former member of the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer, Service Guild, and Couples Club. She graduated from Lorain High School class of 1940A. She was also a member of the Stone City Chapter #325 Order of Eastern Star, Amherst, Ohio.
Mrs. Elder worked as a substitute driver for two routes of the Lorain Journal afternoon paper. Was a Secretary for the Longfellow PTA. Worked for the Lorain City Auditors office at the old Sears store, Lorain in the Audit Department. The Lorain City Income Tax Department. The Hanna Theater, Cleveland, Ohio under the New York Theater Guild.
She is survived by a son Phil, of Lorain, Ohio; two daughters, Judy Hayden of Mission, TX, and Jane Kaczay, with whom she live with in Pahrump, NV. three grandson in the military, Jeff Hayden (Major) USAF in Washington, DC, Jon Hayden (Sergeant) USAF, Honolulu, HI and Chris Cowie (Petty Officer) USCG, Veldez, AK. Two grandsons, two granddaughters that live in Ohio. Four great granddaughters, one great grandson, one great great granddaughter and one great great grandson and three nephews.
Harold J. Elder, husband of 59 years preceded her in death in 2001. Her grandson Dan Hayden, USAF passed away in 1989, and a great grand son. Her parents Arthur B. Brown in 1957. Her mother Irma G. (nee Carver) Brown Sinclair in 1973. Her stepfather Myron Sinclair died in 1961.
A service will be at Schwartz, Spence, Boyer & Cool Home for Funerals, Lorain, Ohio at a later date.

Alice R. Metz
Alice R. Metz (nee Copper), 84 of Lorain died early Saturday morning, December 10, 2005 at the New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph.
Mrs. Metz was born in McKeesport, PA on October 3, 1921. She was a graduate of the McKeesport High School. She has lived in Lorain since 1945.
She was a member of Church of the Redeemer in Lorain and a homemaker.
Mrs. Metz is survived by a daughters: Dr. Susan Metz of Lorain, son: Fred G. Metz of Vermilion, 1 granddaughter and two nieces.
She was preceded in death by her husband Allen Metz on Sept 15, 2001, her parents Frederick and Anna (nee Bissell) Copper and a sister Jane Hohing.
There is no visitation and services are private. Rev. Stephen Sedgwick, rector of the Episcopal Church of The Redeemer will officiate.
The family suggest that memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 43099 North Ridge Road, Elyria, Ohio 44035.

Neil F. Elgar
Neil F. Elgar, 72 of Lorain died Sunday, November 6, 2005, at Community Health Partners & Surgical Center in Lorain following a brief illness.
Mr. Elgar was born in Lorain on May 22, 1933. He lifelong resident of Lorain. He is a US Army Veteran of the 101st Airborne Division stationed in Germany from 1953-1955. He was retired from US Steel as an inspector with 33 years service.
He is survived by a daughter: Deborah Weiland of Bay Village, OH, son: David Elgar of Sylvania, OH one grandson, sister: Connie Peters of Lorain, OH, and brother: Herb Elgar of Vermilion, OH.
Mr. Elgar was preceded in death by his wife Elsie on July 23, 1998, and his parents Homer & Minnie (nee McCormick) Elgar.
Friends may call on Wednesday, November 9, 2005, from 2-4 & 7-9 PM.Also friends may call on Thursday 10:30 AM until funeral time at 11:30 AM in Schwartz, Spence, Boyer & Cool Home For Funerals, 1124 W. 5th Street, Lorain, OH 44052. The Reverend Dennis Stylski will officiate.
Burial will be in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township, OH.
The family suggest that memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society 43099 N. Ridge Road Elyria, OH 44035 or American Heart Association, Northern Lake Region 1689 E. 115th Street Cleveland, OH 44106.

Raymond J. Mize
Raymond J. Mize, 81 of Lorain died Sunday, September 4, 2005, at the Louis Stokes Cleveland Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center-Wade Park Division after a brief illness.
Mr. Mize was born in Lorain, OH on August 12, 1924, and was a life long resident. He was a graduate of Lorain High School Class of 1942 B and Bowling Green State University with a BS in Business in 1954. He was a member of St. Mary Church Lorain, OH.
He served in the US Army during WW II and received the American Theater Ribbon and the EAME Theater Ribbon with 2 Bronze Stars.
He was a charter member of the Lorain Sports Hall of Fame Committee. He was Inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1985. He was a member of the I.A.V. Post # 1, Amvets in Amherst, member of the Lorain Sports Hall of Fame Inducted in 1985, member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity and played minor league baseball with the St. Louis Cardinal's Franchise.
He was a member of the Rebman's Senior Golf League and enjoyed all sports.
He retired as a deputy auditor at Lorain County Auditor's Office Elyria, Ohio. He had also been employed by National Tube, All American and Kohlmyers Sporting Goods Stores.
He is survived by his wife Donna L. (nee Fisher) Mize to whom he was married on Sep 6, 1958, Son(s): Thomas J. Mize of Lorain, Ohio, Christopher J. Mize of Lorain, Ohio, 4 grandchildren: Sarah, Mary, Patrick, Daniel and brother: Stanley Mize of Lorain, Ohio.
He was preceded in death by his parents John and Anna, sisters; Harriet Homola and Betty Matijasic.
Friends may call on Thursday, September 8, 2005, from 10:00 AM until the Memorial Service at 11:00 AM in St. Mary Church, Eighth & Reid Avenues, Lorain, OH, with Rev. Daniel O. Divis, pastor officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary Church, 307 7th Street, Lorain, Ohio 44052.
Arrangements are being handled by the Schwartz, Spence, Boyer & Cool Home For Funerals, 1124 W. 5th Street, Lorain, Ohio 44052.

Lance B. Erdy
Lance B. Erdy, 64 of Elyria died Thursday, November 24, 2005, at Elyria Memorial Hospital Regional Medical Center in Elyria unexpectedly.
Mr. Erdy was born in Lorain, OH on August 23, 1941. He was a resident of Lorain until moving to Elyria about 2 years ago. He was a 1959 graduate of Lorain High School.
He was an outstanding athlete in High School, earning several "letters." He was an avid bowler and enjoyed building things and working with his hands.
He is survived by his daughters: Jennifer Snowden of Amherst, Lynn Gasdick of Vermilion, Ohio, six grandchildren and a sister: Lauren Roth of Saulk City, WI.
He was preceded in death by his parents Lawrence and Ella (Horvath) Erdy and a sister Judith Walbom.
Friends may call Tuesday, Nov 29.2005, from 4-7 PM at Schwartz, Spence, Boyer & Cool Home For Funerals, 1124 W. 5th Street, Lorain, Ohio 44052.
Funeral Services will at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, November 30, 2005, with Rev. Daniel O. Divis, pastor of St. Mary Church officiating.
Burial will be in Ridge Hill Memorial Park Cemetery Amherst Township, OH.

Lillian (nee Eberhardt) Novinger
Lillian (nee Eberhardt) Novinger, 85 of Lorain passed away on Monday, April 25, 2005 at Community Health Partners & Surgical Center following a brief illness.
Mrs. Novinger was born on March 25, 1920 in South Amherst and lived in the Lorain area all her life. She was a 1938 graduate of South Lorain High School.
She had been employed at the Clarkin's Store, Vermilion Valley Plaza on the turnpike and the Morning Journal.
Mrs. Novinger enjoyed watching sporting events on TV and watching her grandchildren participate in sporting events. She also crocheted.
She is survived by her son James D Novinger of Sheffield Village, daughters Toni Klima, Patty Jo Diso, Amy Bozsoki all of Lorain, 6 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James E. Novinger in 1982, brothers Edward Eberhardt, William Eberhardt, Fred Eberhardt, Arthur Eberhardt, Albert Eberhardt and sisters Edith Chismar and Clare Eberhardt.
Friends may call at the Schwartz, Spence, Boyer & Cool Home For Funerals, 1124 W. 5th Street, Lorain, Ohio 44052 on Wednesday, April 27, 2005 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm.
Funeral services will be on Thursday, April 28, 2005 at 10:00 am in the funeral home with Rev. Carl Richter, senior pastor of the First Congregational Church, officiating
Burial will be in the Ridge Hill Memorial Park Cemetery, Amherst Township, Ohio.

Robert Allen Ewers
Retired Lorain Municipal Court Judge Robert Allen Ewers, 76 of Lorain died Thursday, December 15, 2005 at Fairview General Hospital in Cleveland after being taken there following an auto accident on Wednesday.
He was born on December 20, 1928 in Elyria and has been a resident of this area all his life. He was a graduate of Lorain High School, Baldwin Wallace College and the Case Western Reserve Law School. He was a US Navy Reserve veteran. He was a member of the St. Mary Church in Lorain.
Judge Ewers began his career in 1954. He served as Assistant Attorney General to William Saxbe. He became acting municipal court judge in 1968 by appointment of Judges John S. Kolena and Judge Valentine A. Toth to serve in their absence. He served as civil referee since 1976. He served Lorain as fulltime Municipal Court Judge from 1979 until his retirement in December 2001. He received several awards for Superior Judicial Service from the Ohio Supreme Court.
He was an founding member of the Lorain County Mental Health and Mental Retardation Board (648), served as a member of the Lucy Idol School Board. He volunteered with the Boy Scouts and the PTA. He headed the Cancer Drive with the City Of Lorain.
Judge Ewers was a member of the Lorain Kiwanis, Moose Lodge, Slovenian Club, IAV and the Ohio and Lorain County Bar Associations. He enjoyed playing the piano, theatre, traveling, reading, music and camping. He was especially known for his integrity, sharp wit and his bow ties.
He is survived by his sons, William Robert Ewers and Raymond Ewers both of Lorain, daughters Deborah Ewers of Lorain, Dr. Susan Pelini of Westlake, Katherine Passalacqua of Bay Village, Mary Ellen Ewers-Pena of Avon Lake, 12 grandchildren and a sister Patricia Smith of Boston, MA.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Lois (nee Cimperman) Ewers on May 4, 2002, and his parents Ray A. and Rosella (nee Resar) Ewers.
Friends may call on Saturday, December 17, 2005 from 7-9 pm at the Schwartz, Spence, Boyer & Cool Home For Funerals, 1124 W. 5th Street, Lorain, Ohio 44052. Additionally friends may call on Sunday, December 18, 2005 from 1:30 - 4:30 pm and 6-9 pm also at the funeral home.
Funeral services will be on Monday, December 19, 2005 at 10:30 am in the funeral home followed by a 11:00 am Mass of Christian Burial at the St. Mary Church, 8th & Reid Ave. with Rev. Daniel O. Divis, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
The family suggest that memorial contributions may be made to the St. Mary Food Pantry, 309 W. 7th Street, Lorain, Ohio 44052.
