Katherine R. Heald
Katherine R "Kay" Heald, 81 of Lorain died on Saturday, July 16, 2005, at Avon Oaks Nursing Home in Avon, OH following a long illness.
Mrs. Heald was born on February 20, 1924, in Oil City, PA. She has lived in Lorain since 1945. She was a graduate of Oil City High School and Clarion Teacher's College with a BS in education in 1945. She went on in 1979 to obtain her Master's Degree in Education from Bowling Green State University.
She was an elementary teacher in the Lorain City Schools. She taught at several schools but mostly at Fairhome. She took a short time off while her children were very young but even then continued to substitute teach.
After returning to full-time teaching, she became the supervisor of the Title One Reading Program. She was particularly proud of one accomplishment. She was assigned to teach a 15 year old Polish immigrant that spoke no English and she no Polish. She taught him to read and write English well. He then went on to receive a college degree. She retired from teaching in 1988 with more than 30 years dedicated to her profession.
Mrs. Heald was very active in her church, Christ United Methodist Church. She was a choir member, member of the Martha Circle and taught Sunday School. She was a member of the Lorain Education Association, the National Education Association, and volunteered with the Boy Scouts of America. She had also been a den mother.
She was an honored volunteer with the Alzheimer's Association. She was awarded the Outstanding Senior Volunteer award in 1998.
Mrs. Heald is survived by her husband James C. Heald to whom she was married on June 28, 1947, sons Edward "Eddie" Heald of Clark NE and Richard "Rick" Heald of Lorain, sister Muriel Harry of Seneca, PA and 5 nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents Irving and Ruby (nee Campbell) Reid.
Friends may call at Schwartz Spence Boyer & Cool Home for Funerals, 1124 W. 5th Street, Lorain, on Friday, July 22, 2005, from 2-4 and 7-9 PM.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 23, 2005, at 1:00 PM in the funeral home with Rev. Matt Darrin, pastor of the Christ United Methodist Church officiating.
Katherine R. Heald will be buried at Elmwood Cemetery in Lorain, OH.
The family suggest that memorial contributions may be made to the Christ United Methodist Church, 3015 Meister Road, Lorain, Ohio 44053 or the Alzheimer's Association, Cleveland Area Chapter, Western Office, 37500 Harvest Drive, Avon, OH 44011 or he charity of the donor's choice.

Carl R. Smith
Carl R. (Leadbetter) Smith, 17 of Lorain died on Sunday, May 22, 2005 at his residence unexpectedly. Mr. Smith had suffered from cerebral palsy all his life.
Mr. Smith was born on February 1, 1988 in Cleveland, OH and lived in Lorain all his life. He was a freshman at Elyria High School. He attended Delaware Avenue United Methodist Church.
He loved school and especially riding the bus to and from school. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoyed fishing and the beach. He also enjoyed shopping, golfing, bowling and his summer cottage on Pelee Island.
Mr. Smith was a member of Youth Challenge and participated in the Special Olympic in the 40 meter sprint, bean bag push, target drop and on the bowling team.
He was adopted as the unofficial poster child for the Lorain Elks and was instrumental in developing the relationship between the Lorain Elks and the Children's Developmental Center in Amherst. Mr. Smith attended the Children's Developmental Center all his life.
On November 27, VFW Post 8686 in Sheffield Lake hosted a benefit to purchase a beach chair so that Mr. Smith was able to obtain a longtime dream of walking on the beach like other children. He was able to use the chair only once.
Mr. Smith is survived by parents Walter "Wayda" and Karen K. (nee Werner) Leadbetter of Lorain, his father Jerry Smith of Lorain, grandparents Donna Werner of Lorain and Larry & Marilyn Leadbetter of Salina, Kansas, 3 uncles and 2 aunts.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather Gerald Werner in 1995.
A Memorial service will be held on May 25, 2005 at 11:00 am in Schwartz Spence Boyer & Cool Home for Funerals, 1124 W. 5th Street, Lorain, OH, with Rev. Christopher Statz officiating. A public reception and luncheon will be held following the burial at the Lorain Elks, 203 Sixth Street, Lorain, Ohio 44052.
Burial will be in Ridge Hill Memorial Park Cemetery, Amherst Township.
The family suggest that memorial contributions may be made to the Youth Challenge, 4320 W. 220th Street, Cleveland, Ohio 44126 or Children's Developmental Center, 150 Erie Court, Amherst, Ohio 44001.

Eunice Estelle Smith
Eunice Estelle Smith, 92 of Elyria died on Sunday, September 25, 2005, at Elyria United Methodist Village in Elyria, OH following a long illness.
Miss Smith was born on September 12, 1913, in Vermilion, OH and has lived all her life in this area. Miss Smith was a retired music teacher in the Vermilion City School System.
She was a member of the Episcopal Church Of The Redeemer, Lorain Sorosis, Erie County Delta Kappa Gamma, Lorain County Retired Teacher's Association, the Song Stylist, Delta Omicron-Honorary Music Sorority and the Adult Literacy Program.
Miss Smith is survived by her caregivers and nephew David and Susan Smith of Milbury and one other nephew.
She was preceded in death by her parents Walter David & Maria May (nee Lawrence) Smith, brother David L. Smith and a sister Emily Smith Abbott.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 1, 2005, at 11:00 am at Episcopal Church Of The Redeemer, 647 Reid Ave. Lorain, Ohio 44052 with Rev. Stephen Sedgwick, rector, officiating.
The family suggest that memorial contributions may be made to the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer, 647 Reid Ave. Lorain, Ohio 44052, or New Life Hospice, c/o Community Health Partners Foundation, 3700 Kolbe Road, Lorain, Ohio 44053-9905.

Evelyn B. Steadman
Evelyn B. (nee Adams) Steadman, 88 of Lorain died on Wednesday, May 4, 2005, at Amherst Manor Nursing Home in Amherst, OH following a long illness.
Mrs. Steadman was born on August 12, 1916, in Meyersdale, PA and moved to Lorain in 1949. She is a 1935 graduate of Hyndman High School. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Vermilion.
She is survived by her friend and caregiver Oral Shobert of Vermilion, OH.
Mrs. Steadman is preceded in death by her husband Charles R. Steadman on June 26, 1987, son Richard Lee Steadman on April 29, 1941, parents James O and Edna Kate (nee Gaumer) Adams, brother James O Adams Jr..
Friends may call at Schwartz Spence Boyer & Cool Home for Funerals, 1124 W. 5th Street, Lorain, OH, on Monday, May 9, 2005, from 10:00 until funeral time at 11:00 am with Pastor Donald Resecker, past or of the First Baptist Church, officiating.

Ted L. Sterrett
Ted (Teddie) L. Sterrett, 48, of Vermilion, Ohio died on Friday, June 10, 2005 at his home after a short illness.
Mr. Sterrett was born on October 22, 1956 in Lorain, OH.
He was a life long resident of Vermilion. He has been employed by his parents at the former Vermilion Engineering Co.
Mr. Sterrett is survived by his brother Daryle Richard Sterrett of Vermilion, OH, his aunt, Georgiee Gladish of Vermilion, OH, and several nieces.
Ted is preceded in death by his parents Walter " Red" and Edith (nee Hathaway) Sterrett, and his brother Larry R. Sterrett.
Services are private.

Twila Grace James
Twila Grace James, 99, (nee Busha) of Lorain died on Tuesday afternoon, August 26, 2008 at Community Health Partners Regional Medical Center in Lorain following a brief illness.
Mrs. James was born in Lorain on April 17, 1909, the daughter of the late Arthur Busha and Mary Grace (nee Cobb) Busha Hewes. She was a 1927 graduate of Lorain High School, received a teaching certificate from Bowling Green State University in 1927 and then earned a BS in education from Kent State University in 1946.
She began her career spanning 35 years, in elementary education at Garfield School in Lorain, she then taught in the Clearview and South Amherst School districts. The final 21 years of teaching was spent at East Carlisle School in the Midview School District. She retired in 1969.
Mrs. James was a member of Lorain Lighthouse United Methodist Church Lorain, Ohio., taught Sunday School and member of the Martha Circle.
She was a member of the Alpha Pi Sigma Sorority, Black River Historical Society, Queen City Chapter # 66 Eastern Star, AARP # 399, Lakeland Women's Club, and a life member of Ohio Retired Teachers Association.
Mrs. James and her husband were avid travelers enjoying traveling to Hawaii, Alaska, Switzerland, England and throughout the continental United States.
Mrs. James is survived by her caregiver Thomas A. Kramer of Lorain, many cousins and many people whose lives she touched.
She is preceded in death by her husband William (Bill) James on April 15, 1996 and a brother Harold Busha.
There will be graveside services at Elmwood Cemetery in Lorain at 10:30 AM on Saturday, August 30, 2008 with Rev. Greg Sellers, pastor of the Lorain Lighthouse United Methodist Church, officiating.
The family suggest that memorial contributions may be made to the Lorain Lighthouse United Methodist Church, 3015 Meister Road Lorain, Ohio 44053 in her memory.

Evelyn J. "Debby" Jeffords
Evelyn J. "Debby" Jeffords, 86 (nee Tennihill) of Amherst died Wednesday, August 6, 2008 at her home following a brief illness.
Mrs. Jeffords was born in Nelsonville, OH on February 2, 1922, the daughter of the late Myrtle E (nee Koon) Tennihill.
She was a homemaker that loved being with her family.
Mrs. Jeffords is survived by daughters Rebecca Milota of Amherst, Patricia A Weaver of Lorain, Nikki L. (Mark) Majcher of Lorain, son Ralph Jeffords of Lorain, 11 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Charles H. "Jeff" Jeffords in 2001, a son Carl E Jeffords in 2004. brothers Ralph Tennihill, Jack Tennihill, Don Tennihill, sisters Jenny Lewis and JoEllen Grennell.
Friends may call Thursday, August 7, 2008 from 5-8 pm at the Schwartz, Spence, Boyer & Cool Home For Funerals, 1124 W. 5th Street, Lorain.
Funeral Services will be Friday, August 8, 2008 in the funeral home at 11:00 am with Sr. Catherine Romancik officiating.
Burial will be in Ridge Hill Memorial Park Cemetery, Amherst Township, OH.
Family suggest that memorial contributions may be made to New Life Hospice, C/O Community Health Partners Foundation 3700 Kolbe Road Lorain, OH 44053-9905.
