Harriet A. Arnold
Harriet A. (nee Chapman) Arnold, 70, of Oberlin passed away on Monday, April 14, 2008 in the Cleveland Clinic following a long illness.
Mrs. Arnold was born in Linden, NJ on July 3, 1937, the daughter of the late Eugene and Helen (Dobbins) Chapman. She graduated from Linden High School in Linden, NJ and received her bachelor's degree in English from Oberlin College in 1971 with the support of a Danforth Fellowship. Her Master's degree in American Studies was awarded by Case Western Reserve University in 1974. She also enrolled in further graduate courses at Bowling Green State University and Kent State University.
She taught in the Oberlin City Schools for many years and the Oberlin College Upward Bound Program before retiring from Lorain City Schools. Prior to coming to Oberlin, Mrs. Arnold worked for the US Post Office and a major African-American owned insurance company.
She was a member of Christ Episcopal Church in Oberlin. She also played the organ and piano for many years in Rust Methodist Church, Mt. Zion Baptist Church both in Oberlin and St. Matthews AME Church in Lorain.
A community activist, Mrs. Arnold was a co-founder of the Oberlin Early Childhood Center (with the support of the Nord Foundation) and served on the Oberlin City Council from 1980 to 1989. She served as Council Chairperson and Mayor from 1984-5.
A delegate to the Democratic National Convention in 1984, Mrs. Arnold's memberships and affiliations included the AKA Sorority, NAACP, Urban League, Leadership Lorain, Lorain Education Association, Ohio Teacher's Association and NEA. Mrs. Arnold was a Charter Member of the National Association of Negro Business and Professional Women's Clubs and was an early recipient of their Sojourner Truth Award. She had a strong interest in Oberlin's Asian Studies program and traveled to Japan in 1985.
Mrs. Arnold is loved and remembered by her three daughters Mercia E. Arnold of Washington, DC., Regina I.A. Mullen of Redmond, WA, Christina A. Arnold of Raleigh, NC., grandson William Brice, granddaughters Cottia A. and Christina Aaliyah A. Arnold, a God-daughter Caroline (Jones) Hubbell, sisters Dorothy Petersen, Helen Franklin both of Linden, NJ., brothers Tommy Chapman, James Chapman both of Linden, NJ., Louis Chapman of Richmond, VA., many nieces and nephews, dear friends and loved ones.

In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by a sister Florene Ford, brothers Leon Chapman and Stanley Chapman.
A Memorial Service in celebration of Mrs. Arnold's life will be held Wednesday, April 23, 2008 at 1:00 PM in the Christ Episcopal Church, 161 S. Main Street, Oberlin, Ohio 44074, with Father Brian K. Wilbert, rector, welcoming Mrs. Arnold home. Interment will be in the church columbarium.
The family are thankful for any contributions made on Mrs. Arnold's honor to the Christ Episcopal Church, Community Fund, 161 S. Main Street, Oberlin, Ohio 44074.

Laurence A. Barr
Laurence A. Barr, 47, of Lorain died on Sunday, July 6, 2008 at Community Health Partners Regional Medical Center in Lorain, unexpectedly.
Mr. Barr was born in Detroit, MI on December 17, 1960, the son of the late Edward A and Betty J (Annis) Barr. He was a 1980 graduate of Vermilion High School. He was also a US Navy veteran serving from 1980-1983.
He was a member of Brownhelm Congregational United Church of Christ in Brownhelm Township and sang in the choir.
Mr. Barr worked as a customer service representative at Teletech Communications in Amherst, since Nov 2007. He also had been a machinist at Mel-Ba Manufacturing in Elyria for 13 years.
He enjoyed classic movies, collectible swords, Ancient Roman and Greek Mythology, and science fiction.
Mr. Barr is survived by his loving wife of 19 years, Mischa L. (nee Murrell) Barr, a daughter Caitlin M. Barr, a son Charles L. Barr both at home, brother Edward A Barr of Grand Rapids, MI., Harold L. Barr of Boonescamp, KY, and John A Tighe of Cleveland, and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his foster parents that raised him, Al and Ruth (nee Engel) Tighe and a sister Susan J Barr.
Friends may call on Thursday, July 10, 2008 at the Schwartz, Spence, Boyer & Cool Home For Funerals, 1124 W. 5th Street, Lorain, from 2-4 & 7-9 PM.
Additionally, friends may call on Friday, July 11, 2008 from 10:00 AM until funeral time at 11:00 AM in the Brownhelm Congregational United Church of Christ, 2144 North Ridge Road, Brownhelm Township.

Burial will be in Ridge Hill Memorial Park Cemetery, Amherst Township.

Mildred L. Binder
Mildred L. Binder, 95, (nee Nuhn) of Lorain passed away on Friday morning, September 5, 2008, at the Avon Oaks Nursing Home following a brief illness.
Mrs. Binder was born in Vermilion, OH on December 14, 1912, the daughter of the late William August and Doris ( nee Lee) Nuhn. A lifelong resident of the area, she graduated in 1930 from Lorain High School.
She began her working career at the candy counter at Neisner's 5 & Dime. She then worked for 35 years at the Saxon Club as the bookkeeper and secretary. She and her late husband also served as the custodians at Zion Lutheran Church, when it was at 17th & Reid Avenues.
Mrs. Binder was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, and the Ladies Aid group. Additionally, she was a member of the Saxon Club Ladies and enjoyed bowling.
She is survived by daughters Jean K. McKitrick, Wilma A. Paghi both of Lorain, grandchildren Paula J. Dickason, Daniel W. Paghi, Mark A. Paghi, Jayne L. Gleisner, Patti Ann Paghi, Molly J. Kirchner, Lisa J. Gleisner, Thomas S. Paghi, Danielle Paghi, great grandchildren Ryan P. Dickason, James R. Dickason, Molly-Jaye M. Kirchner, Britt O. Dickason, Casey J. Kirchner, Mackenzie S. Dickason, Deandra Paghi, Brady S. Dickason, Murphy P. Dickason, Tyler D. Cellini, Stevi A. Ward, Jennifer L. Paghi, Mark D. Paghi, a niece and a nephew.
Mrs. Binder was preceded in death by her husband of 75 years, Gustav A. Binder in 2007, daughter Joan A. Gleisner in 2005, grandsons Stephen A. Gleisner in 1970, Barry J. Paghi in 2004 and a brother Harold Nuhn.
Friends may call Tuesday, September 9, 2008, from 6-8 PM at Schwartz, Spence, Boyer & Cool Home For Funerals, 1124 W. 5th Street, Lorain.
Additionally, friends may call on Wednesday, September 10, 2008, from 11:00 AM until services at noon in Zion Lutheran Church, 5100 Ashland Ave., Lorain, The Rev. Kevin Saylor, pastor, will officiate.
Burial will be in Ridge Hill Memorial Park Cemetery Amherst Township, OH.
The Family suggest that memorial contributions may be made to the Zion Lutheran Church, 5100 Ashland Ave. Lorain, Ohio.

Georgia Plumb Bollmann
Georgia Plumb Bollmann, 87 of Chillicothe, formerly of Lorain went to be with her Lord on Thursday, October 9, 2008 at the Traditions At Chillicothe Care Center following a long illness.
Mrs. Bollmann was born in Wilson, New York on March 19, 1921, the daughter of the late George Herbert and Lily Mae (nee Adams) Plumb. She lived in Lorain from 1962 until moving to Chillicothe to be near her daughter in 2002. She was a longtime member St. John United Church of Christ while living in Lorain. She was a homemaker.
She was a former instructor at Lorain YMCA, Past President of the PTA for PS 24, and President of Lorain County Art League. She enjoyed sewing and knitting as her hobbies but spending time with her family was her most enjoyable pastime.

Mrs. Bollmann is survived by her daughter Susan (Stephen) Wright of Chillicothe, son Arthur G (Kay) Bollmann of Buffalo, NY, grandchildren Arthur P. Bollmann, Sarah Kerry and Emily Wright and a great grandson Aiden Kerry.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Arthur Bollmann in 2001, sisters Violet Giddings, Mabel Sawyer, brother George Plumb and a daughter-in-law Phyllis Bollmann.
Graveside services will be at Acacia Park Cemetery in the Acacia Park Cemetery, 4215 Tonawanda Creek Road, North Tonawanda, NY, at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, October 15, 2008. Rev. Dr. Stephen M. Austin, pastor of the St. Stephens-Bethlehem United Church of Christ in Buffalo will officiate.

Mary Ellen Bowers
Mary Ellen Bowers, 77 (nee Honkomp) died at her home in Lorain on Wednesday, November 5, 2008 following a long illness.
Mrs. Bowers was born in St Louis, MO on July 22, 1931, the daughter of the late Gerhardt and Catherine (nee Schwartz) Honkomp.
She was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Church in Lorain. She was a laborer at Gusdorf Manufacturing while living in St Louis, MO. She retired in 1993. While living in Lorain, she was employed by the Lorain Products.
Mrs. Bower enjoyed reading and spending time with her family & friends.
She is survived by daughters Gwendolyn L Logan of Austin, TX, Dolores R Farsetti of Lorain, Carolyn M Grace of Medina, Mary Jo Cortes of Lorain, Theresa L Fuwell, Ruth A Pliner both of St. Louis, MO, sons Robert L Bowers III of Huron, Raymond H Bowers, Jeffrey A Bowers both of St. Louis, MO, 24 grandchildren, and 16 great grandchildren, sisters Anna Ruth Clark, Caroline Manis both of St. Louis, MO.
A Memorial Mass will be Monday, November 10, 2008 at 10:00 AM in St. Anthony of Padua Church, Lorain, OH, with Father Joseph West officiating.
Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, November 12, 2008 at 2:00 PM in the chapel at Sacred Heart Cemetery, 980 Graham Rd, Florissant, MO 63031 with Rev. Robert Evans, pastor of the Our Lady of Presentation Catholic Church officiating.

Charles F. Kleefeld
Charles F. Kleefeld, 90 of Lorain died Saturday Morning, March 29, 2008 at the Ohio Veterans Home in Sandusky following a long illness while in the company of his family.
Mr. Kleefeld was born in Cleveland, Ohio on January 28, 1918, the son of the late Paul and Lottie (Frederick) Kleefeld. He was a lifelong resident of Lorain. He graduated from Lorain High School in 1936 and attended Case Western Reserve University earning a degree in applied science.
He is a veteran of the US Army serving during WWII. He was a staff sergeant with the combat engineers. He received the EAME Theater Ribbon with two bronze stars and the American Theater Ribbon.
He was a member of Church of the Redeemer in Lorain, a member of the Vestry, Altar Guild and was an Eucharistic Minister visiting the elderly and the ill for communion.
Mr. Kleefeld's family moved to Lorain in 1920 and started the family business: Universal Cleaners. Mr. Kleefeld and his brother ran the business from 1946 until it sold in 1975.
He was past president of Lorain Exchange Club, a member of the Board of Directors for the Lorain Chamber of Commerce and hosted "Town Talk Forum" for three years. He also served as a Director of Northern Ohio Dry Cleaners Association.
Mr. Kleefeld was a member of Black River Lodge # 786 F & AM, 32 degree Mason, and past president of Lorain County Scottish Rite. He was past president and past secretary of Senior Fellowship Club and was well known for his involvement in the Lorain Community Hospital Follies from 1961-1996. He volunteered with the Lorain County Habitat for Humanity.
He is survived by his daughter Jean E Karnik of Lorain, granddaughter Kimberly (Troy) Brunner of Lorain, grandson Vincent F. Karnik, V of Amherst, great grandson Vincent F. Karnik, VI of Amherst, a great granddaughter Kylie E Brunner of Lorain and his brother Paul (Lois) Kleefeld of Elyria, one niece and two nephews.
Mr. Kleefeld was preceded in death by his wife Betty B. (nee Burgess) in 1983.
Friends may call Tuesday, April 1, 2008 from 4-7 PM in the Schwartz, Spence, Boyer & Cool Home For Funerals, 1124 W. 5th Street, Lorain, Ohio. A Masonic Memorial service will be held at 5:30 PM by his lodge.
Funeral Services will be in the Church of the Redeemer, 647 Reid Ave., Lorain 44052 at 11:00 am on Wednesday, April 2, 2008 with Rev. Stephen Sedgwick, rector, officiating.
Burial will be in Ridge Hill Memorial Park Cemetery, Amherst Township, with full military honors provided jointly by the American Legion Post 30 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 451.
Family suggest that memorial contributions may be made to Church of the Redeemer 647 Reid Avenue Lorain, OH 44052 or Cleveland Clinic Foundation For Alzheimer's Research, 3050 Science Park Drive, AC 332, Beachwood, Ohio 44122.

Richard R. Kreason
Richard R. Kreason, 72 of Lorain died Tuesday, July 29, 2008 at the Cleveland Clinic, surrounded by his loving family, following a brief illness.
Mr. Kreason was born in Cleveland, Ohio on November 16, 1935, the son of the late Kenneth E. and Mary D (nee Easler) Kreason.
He was a graduate of Lorain High School-Class of 1953 B. He also attended Oberlin Business College. He attended St. Mary Church in Lorain.
Mr. Kreason was a retired inspector for General Fire Extinguishing Corp in North Brook, IL. He retired in 2001 following 30 years service.
He was an avid bowler, enjoyed watching baseball and football, especially his grandson, Charlie, playing sports.
Mr. Kreason is survived by his wife of 30 years, Virginia J. (nee Dills) Kreason, daughters Cynthia Kreason of Fairhaven, MI, Patricia Kreason of Troy, MI, son Kenneth E. (Kathy) Kreason of Valparasio, IN, step daughters Daneen Lee, Mary Klier, Ann (David) Ramage all of Vermilion, grandchildren Jennifer Krause, Jamie Weaver, Amanda Gunter, Jeremy Krause, Herbert Jacoby III, Clinton Scaff, Charles Scaff, Cara Scaff, Matthew O'Brien, 9 great grandchildren, sisters-in-law Marsha Coates of Royal Oaks, MI, Mary Dills of Carmel, CA, and brother-in-law Glenn W. (Loretta) Dills of North Ridgeville.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his 1st wife Elda Mae (nee Coates) Kreason, and a brother-in-law, retired Lt. Col. Earl E. Dills.
Graveside services will be in Elmwood Cemetery on Saturday, August 9, 2008 at 9:00am with Rev. Daniel O. Divis, pastor St. Mary Church, officiating.
