Robert L. Saurbeck
(1928 - 2002)
DELTA - Robert L. Saurbeck, 74, of Antwerp and formerly of Bryan, died Wednesday evening, Sept. 25, 2002, at the Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne, Ind.
Born May 9, 1928, in Waldron, Mich. to Gertie (Heiser) and Jesse Saurbeck, he married Virginia Kelsey on Sept. 29, 1956, and she survives.
Prior to his retirement, he had worked for the former Indiana Bell Telephone Company as a cable splicer. He was a former Scoutmaster for the BSA in Kendallville, Ind. and he was a past president of the Communications Workers of America (CWA).
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Moira Saurbeck of Northwood; four sons, Roderick Saurbeck and Scott Saurbeck, both of Waterloo, Ind., Kyle Saurbeck of Albion, Ind. and Eric Saurbeck of Auburn, Ind.; five grandchildren; a brother, Don Saurbeck of Auburn, Ind. and a sister, Sharon Smith of Defiance.
Preceding him in death was a brother, Jesse Saurbeck; and six sisters, Betty Jane Echler, Donna Lumm, Margaret Rashley, Geraldine Sprow, Evelyn Worthington and Louise Price.
A memorial service will be scheduled at a later time.
Memorials may be made to the Boy Scouts of America, the American Diabetes Association or the Multiple Sclerosis Society.
Miller Funeral Home in Delta is in charge of arrangements.
Vance E. "Pete" Wolford
(1919 - 2002)
ROCKLEDGE, Fla. - Vance E. "Pete" Wolford, 82, died Saturday, Sept. 21, 2002, at Rockledge, Fla. Born Oct. 24, 1919 in Hicksville, Ohio, to Claudia (Saylor) and Forest Wolford, he married Mildred Rosendaul on Aug. 16, 1941, and she preceded him in death on July 8, 1975.
An Army veteran, he was wounded on Guadal Canal.
Surviving are two sons, Sheldon of Ormand Beach, Fla., and Kent of Jemez Springs, N.M.; a daughter, Pamela McDaniel of Cocoa, Fla.; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and a sister, Luella Yarger of Edgerton, Ohio.
There will be no visitation or services.
Orville E. Rueger
ARCHBOLD - Orville E. Rueger, 82, of Archbold, died Wednesday evening, Dec. 4, 2002, at Fulton Manor Nursing Home in Wauseon.
Among his survivors is his wife, Geneva.
Arrangements are pending at Short Funeral Home.
Dorothy E. Schroth
(1912 - 2002)
Dorothy E. Schroth, 90, of Bryan, died Monday, Dec. 2, 2002, at the Hillside Nursing Home-Anna's House, Bryan.
Born April 29, 1912, in Cowden, Ill., to Viola (Montgomery) and Noah Samuel Toothman, she married Lloyd Schroth on Aug. 18, 1934, and he preceded her in death in July of 1970.
She was a member of the Bryan Women of the Moose, the Bryan Senior Center and the Welcome Club of Bryan. Also, she was a charter member of the Felicity Chapter of the Eastern Star in Normal, Ill., for well over 50 years, at one time having served as the Worthy Matron. She had also been a member of the Eastern Star Chapter in Bryan.
Surviving is a brother, Darrell (and wife, Lois) Toothman of Champaign, Ill.; three nieces, Marolyn Jones of Bryan, Mrs. Bill (Janet Kay) Haag of Springville, Ind., and Wilena Toothman of Florida; a nephew, William (Jeane) Jones of Bethany, Okla.; and many other nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death, in addition to her husband, were her parents; a sister, Thelma Jones; a brother, Ronald Toothman; and a nephew, Richard Toothman.
Visitation will be held Friday from 2-4 p.m. and from 6-8 p.m. in the Rice-Burr Funeral Home, Bryan, and on Sunday from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. in the Stubblefield-Calvert Funeral Home, Normal, Ill.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. in the Stubblefield-Calvert Funeral Home in Normal, Ill. Burial will follow at the Eastlawn Cemetery, Bloomington, Ill.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Hillside Nursing Home-Anna's House or to an organization of the donor's choice.
Scott Ellis
(1972 - 2002)
FORT WAYNE, Ind. - Scott Richard Ellis, 30, of Fort Wayne, died early Tuesday morning, Dec. 3, 2002, at Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne.
Born April 6, 1972, in Racine, Wis., to Dawn and Glen Ellis, he married April Lenae Bunch on Sept. 5, 1998, and she survives.
A network administrator, he worked for Park Center for two years. He was a graduate of Taylor University, Upland, Ind. and also attended Trinity Evangelical Seminary of Chicago in pursuit of a masters degree in psychology. He was a member of Heartland Community Church, Fort Wayne.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his mother and stepfather, Mr. and Mrs. Garry (Dawn) Courtney of Bryan, Ohio; a sister, Stacy (Ellis) Carlin of Bryan, Ohio; a brother, Jordan Courtney of Bryan, Ohio; a stepbrother, Kyle Courtney of Bryan, Ohio; a stepsister, Kris Courtney Short of Archbold; in-laws, Mr. and Mrs. Spencer (Sharon) Bunch and Mr. and Mrs. Darrin (Monica) Bolt of Fairmont, Ind.; and seven nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held Thursday from 2-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. in the D.O. McComb and Sons Funeral Home at 1320 East Dupont Road, Fort Wayne.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 10 a.m. in the funeral home with Pastor Ron Allan of Heartland Community to officiate. A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. in the Shiffler Cemetery, Bryan, Ohio, with Pastor David Lion of Living Waters Int'l, Stryker, to officiate.
Memorials may be made to Living Word Christian School, Stryker.
Mary E. Jodry
(1918 - 2002)
STRYKER - Mary E. Jodry, 84, of Stryker, died Monday, Dec. 2, 2002, at her home.
Born Jan. 27, 1918, in Hustonville, Ky., to Amanda (Murphy) and Donald Mason, she married Vernon Jodry, and he preceded her in death in 1990.
A homemaker, she was a member of the First Baptist Church in Stryker.
Surviving are two sons, Donald Jodry of Stryker and Paul Jodry of Laredo, Texas ; a daughter, Mrs. David (Patricia) Brake of Florida; two grandchildren; and one sister, Nellie Johnson of Toledo. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by 12 brothers and sisters.
Visitation will be held Thursday from 9 a.m. until time of service in the First Baptist Church in Stryker.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. in the church with the Rev. Dan Douglass to officiate. Interment will follow in the French Cemetery near Stryker. The Grisier Funeral Home in Stryker is in charge of arrangements.
Richard L. Shaw Sr.
(1930 - 2002)
MONTPELIER - Richard L. Shaw Sr., 72, of Montpelier, died early Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2002, at the Dilworth Center in Montpelier, following an extended illness.
Born June 5, 1930, in Fairfield County, to Caroline (Krick) and Arthur Shaw, he married Verna Aldenderfer on Dec. 27, 1960, and she survives.
Employed by S.E. Johnson Co. in Maumee for 25 years, he spent the last 21 years managing a stone plant for them. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Stryker.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his seven children, Ricky (and wife, Debbie) Shaw of Fremont, Ind., David (Sandy) Shaw of Delaware, Robin of Montpelier, Ted (Sharon) Shaw of Wauseon, Richard (Pamela) Shaw Jr. of Bryan, Marilyn and Ruth, both of Lancaster; 28 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and nine brothers and sisters, Betty, Harold, Lowell, Louise, Dan, John, Sandy, Larry and Beverly.
Preceding him in death was a brother, Robert.
Visitation will be held Thursday from 6-9 p.m. in the First Baptist Church, Stryker.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 10 a.m. in the church with the Rev. Dan Douglass to officiate. Interment will follow in the Fountain Grove Cemetery, Bryan. Grieser Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials may be made to Community Hospitals of Williams County Hospice.
