Phillip Burr Ullom 06/01/2003
Phillip Burr Ullom, age 60, of Pearce, Arizona and a former Cardington resident died June 1, 2003, at his home. He had received a diagnosis of bone cancer 11 months earlier.
He was born on August 16, 1942, the son of the late Charles “Bud” L. Ullom and Ga-Nell Maxwell Ullom Durfey, who survives in Cardington.
Phil was a 1960 graduate of Cardington High School and served in the U.S. Navy from 1961-1965. Phil was employed by the Williams Oil Company and had resided in Rawlins, WY and Colby, KS. He was a member of the Colby United Methodist Church, Wilcox (AZ) Lions Club and Tombstone (AZ) American Legion.
Phil’s two children; a son, Phillip (Julie) B. Ullom, Jr. of Honolulu, HI and a daughter, Kimberly (Andy) Plett of Benson, AZ: from his marriage of June 1, 1963, to Bonnie Floyd, along with two granddaughters, Ashley and Amber Plett, survive.
He is also survived by his wife Patricia L. Smith Ullom whom he married December 28, 1978; two step-sons and step-grandchildren; a sister, Duanna Ullom and a brother, Gillbert Ullom both of Cardington. He was preceded in death by one brother Max C. Ullom, his father, “Bud” Ullom, and his step-father, Willard Durfey.
A graveside committal service with full military honors will be held Saturday June 14, 2003 at 9:00 AM in Glendale Cemetery. A memorial service will follow at 10:00 AM in the First United Methodist Church in Cardington with Pastor John Jackson officiating.

Marjorie Rankin Coleman 05/22/2003
Marjorie J. Rankin Coleman, age 79, of Neidhart Road Marion, died Thursday May 22, 2003 at Bennington Glen Rehabilitation Center. She was born on January 25, 1924 in Akron, Ohio to the late Matthew R. and Nona (Alexander) Reed.
Her first marriage was to James M. Rankin on October 7, 1951 and he preceded her in death in July, 1989. She then married Raymond C. Coleman on December 1, 1990, and he preceded her in death in October, 2001. Her baby sister, Jacquelyn Jean Reed, preceded her in death in 1927.
Marjorie was a 1941 graduate of Our Lady of the Elms High School in Akron, Ohio and attended Kent State University. After graduation she was the telephone operator for Brown-Graves Lumber in Akron. Upon her marriage in 1951 she relocated to Marion and worked with her husband at Rankin Oldsmobile, Inc. When the business closed in 1958, she worked as receptionist and switchboard operator at the former Marion Brick Corporation (now part of Glen-Gery Brick) for 18 years. In 1976 she started at The Ohio State University Marion Campus where she greeted callers and visitors as receptionist and PBX operator for 12 years until she retired in 1989. In retirement, she remarried and traveled extensively with husband Ray.
She was an active volunteer at OSUM and was a member of the Town and Country Garden Club and the International Sisterhood of P.E.O. She was a member St. John Lutheran Church (Windfall) where she served on the Altar Guild.
Marjorie is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Scott and Claire-Ellen Rankin of Cardington.
Friends may call Monday from 5-8 p.m. at the Gompf Funeral Home in Cardington. The funeral service will be held Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. at St. John Lutheran Church (Windfall) with Pastor Donald W. Pletcher officiating. The burial will be in Windfall Cemetery.

Sharon Ann Miller 05/08/2003
Sharon Ann Miller, age 56, of Midland Avenue in Cardington died Thursday morning, May 8, 2003, at Morrow County Hospital. She was born May 9, 1946, in Marion, OH to Harold F. and Minnie E. (Dean) Albaugh. Her father is deceased and her mother survives in Cardington
Sharon was a 1964 graduate of Cardington-Lincoln High School and a member of the Cardington Baptist Church.
On October 29,1965, in Cardington, she married Charles (Chuck) R. Miller, Sr. and he survives in Cardington.
Survivors also include, 2 sons and daughter-in-laws, Kenneth and Julie Rush of Mount Vernon and Charles and Marsha Miller, Jr. of Marengo; eight grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.
Friends may call Saturday, May 10, 2003, from noon until 2PM at Gompf Funeral Home in Cardington. The funeral service will follow at 2PM. Pastor Jay Weaver will officiate and burial will be in Glendale Cemetery.

Marie D. Yake 05/05/2003
Marie D. Yake, age 89, formerly of Cardington died Monday evening, May 5, 2003 at Sterling House in Marion, Ohio. She was born April 7, 1914 in Richland Township in Marion County to the late Henry and Minnie (Kramer) Heimlich.
Marie was a 1931 graduate of Waldo, a lifelong homemaker and mother of five children; she was the matriarch of the family. Marie attended St. John Lutheran Church and was a member of the WELCA Group and the Piecemakers.
On February 15, 1933 in Cardington, Marie married Harold Harvey Yake and he preceded her in death on May 30, 1998.
Survivors include three daughters and their husbands; Betty Harris of Cardington, Jane and James Kidd of Indiantown, FL, and Ellen and Tom DeGray of Greensboro, NC; two sons and their wives, Wayne and Marilyn Yake of Salem, IN and Howard and Janet Yake of Kalamazoo, MI; 17 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; 3 step-grandchildren and a sister and brother-in-law, Esther and Curtis Rengert of Cardington.
In addition to her parents and husband, Marie was preceded in death by five siblings; Ida Ebert, Edward Heimlich, Frank Heimlich, Pauline Ebert and May Rengert.
Friends may call Friday, May 9, 2003 at Gompf Funeral Home in Cardington from 2-8PM. Funeral Services will be held at St. John Lutheran (Windfall) Church at 5070 Newmans-Cardington Road East, Cardington at 11AM on Saturday, May 10, 2003. Pastor Donald Pletcher will officiate and burial will follow at Windfall Cemetery.

Ramon D. Whaley 04/23/2003
Ramon D. Whaley age 62, of N. Marion Street, Cardington died Wednesday morning, April 23, 2003, at Marion General Hospital. He was born December 27, 1940, in Oneida, NY to the late Raymond David and Lois May (Palmer) Whaley.
A 1959 graduate of Cardington-Lincoln High School, Ramon was a member of Center United Methodist Church and a retired truck driver.
On July 2, 1961, at Center United Methodist Church he married the former Betty Lou Gill and she survives in Cardington.
Survivors also include 4 sons; Tim Whaley and Terry Whaley both of Columbus, Todd and Penny Whaley of Sparta, TN, and Travis and Sarah Whaley of Cardington, grandchildren; Tyler and Hannah Whaley; a sister; Patricia Swartz of Marion; niece and nephew, Tina and Chris Swartz.
In addition to his parents, Ramon was preceded in death by a grandson, Treber Whaley and a brother-in-law, Howard Swartz.
Friends may call Friday, April 25, from 4-8 PM at Gompf Funeral Home in Cardington where services will be held Saturday, April 26, 2003 at 10AM. Pastor Ed Wahl and Pastor Fred Caldwell will officiate. Burial will follow in Glendale Cemetery.

Mildred Margaret Levering 04/13/2003
M. Margaret Levering, 75 of Cardington died at 8:15PM Sunday, April 13, 2003 in the Morrow County Hospital Extended Care Unit. She was born March 5, 1928, in Lincoln Township to the late Ralph and Mildred (Patterson) Levering.
Margaret graduated from Cardington High School in 1946. She began her nursing training at Jane Case Hospital in Delaware. Then she transferred to and received her Registered Nursing degree from Huntington, WV Memorial Hospital in 1952. She was a member of the American Society for Hospital Nursing Service Administrators of the American Hospital Association. She retired in 1989 as Director of Nursing from the Huntington Memorial Hospital. At that time she returned to Cardington where she was a member of the First United Methodist Church.
Margaret is survived by five brothers; Louis (Joan) Levering, Loren Levering, Eugene (Janet) Levering, Dale (Janet) Levering all of Cardington, and Frank (Esther) Levering of Prospect. Also surviving are 10 nieces and nephews; 14 great-nieces & great-nephews, and a great-great-niece and great-great-nephew.
Friends may call Wednesday, April 16, 2003 from 5PM to 8PM at Gompf Funeral Home in Cardington where funeral services will be held Thursday, April 17, 2003 at 11AM. Reverend John Jackson will officiate and burial will be in Glendale Cemetery.
