HOUSE Eleanor M. Friend (Kanavel) House, age 93, Wednesday, October 30, 2002 at OSU East Hospital. Predeceased by husbands George Kanavel and Edwin House, parents Aileen and Frank Friend, brothers George and Richard Friend. Former member and Sunday School teacher at St. Paul's Evangelical Congregational Church. Member of Bexley United Methodist Church and Beacon Chapter #593 Eastern Star. She made her home at Lutheran Courtyards Assisted Living for the past 2* years. Survived by daughter, Shirley (Charles A.) Dozer; grandsons, Charles H. (DeDe) Dozer, Donald W. (Tina) Dozer and Jonathan D. Dozer; great-granddaughters, Lauren and Shelbi Dozer; special niece (raised by Eleanor), Patricia (Theron) Barnhart and their family, Kathy (Christofer) White and Lea (Charles) Ardovino and their children. JESSER Timothy M. "Timmy J" Jesser, 23, died suddenly on October 27, 2002 at Otterbein College. Friends and family may call on Friday, November 1 from 4-8 p.m. at NEWCOMER-FARLEY FUNERAL HOME, 131 N. Canton Rd., Arkon. Funeral service will be held Saturday at 4 p.m. at Uniontown United Methodist Church, 13370 Cleveland Ave. N.W. with Rev. James Nolte officiating. JOHNSON Betty Doan Johnson was born icon November 18, 1918 in Denver, CO. to the late Maude and Albert Doan and died October 30, 2002 in Columbus, OH. After graduation from Pratt HS, Pratt, KS in 1936, she attended Colorado State University in Greeley, CO from 1937 – 1939 and graduated from Kansas State University in Manhattan, KS (1937 – 1940) earning a degree in Journalism. Married Lt. Ralph Edward Young in 1942 who died as a result of wounds received in the Battle of Normandy. He was the father of Pamela Jo, born icon in 1944. Married Howard Cooper Johnson in 1945. He adopted Pamela who today lives in San Francisco and was the father of Richard (Barbara) Johnson, today living in Pennington, NJ and Christina (Gerald) Rosenberg of New Albany, OH. "Betts" has resided in Washington D.C., New Canaan, Ct., New York City, Nassau the Bahamas, Aspen, CO, Sanibel Island and Ft. Myers, FL. and moved to Columbus, OH in 1997. In Florida she founded The Bailey Matthews Shell Museum on Sanibel Island in 1995. It is the only museum in North America solely devoted to shells. In addition to her children, she is survived by seven grandchildren, Lindsay, Christina, Bradbury, Andrew, Kelly, Chase and Brooke. Arrangements are being handled by SCHOEDINGER NORTHEAST CHAPEL in Gahanna, OH with all services private. KALINKE Peter Christian Kalinke, age 75, died peacefully Monday, October 28, 2002 at St. Ann's Hospital after a brief battle with Colon Cancer. He is survived by his loving wife of 33 years, Ana and his beloved children, Susan (Rick) Huffman, Kathy (David) Decker, Robert (Ann) Kalinke, Peter A. (Crystal) Kalinke, Maria Kalinke; 11 grandchildren; extended family and many friends. He was a well known self-employed entrepreneur who traveled throughout the Midwest selling gifts and toys to retail stores, always referring to his customers as friends. He was very instrumental in the teddy bear movement having appraised thousands of those cuddly creatures. He went through life with a deep faith in God, full of hope. He will always be remembered for his outgoing personality, hard work, zest for life and love of people, especially his family. He will be sorely missed by many. A dinner and memorial service will be held 7 p.m. Saturday at Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, 100 E. Schrock Rd., Westerville. KAYLOR Ingeborg S. "Inge" Kaylor, 68, of Pataskala, died at St. Ann's Hospital on Thursday, October 31, 2002. Inge was born icon in Wels, Austria on December 26, 1933 and was a member of Rose Hill Church of Christ in Reynoldsburg and Executive Housekeepers Association. Survived by her husband, Donald S. Kaylor; son, Don (Lisa) Kaylor of Pataskala; daughter, Chrissie Fairley of Pataskala; 3 brothers and 8 sisters; grandchildren, Jacala (Jeremy) Phillips of Canal Winchester, Sara and Michael Sweeney, Jodi and Daniel Kaylor, all of Pataskala; many nieces and nephews. Friends may call at Rose Hill Church of Christ, 9150 E. Main St., Reynoldsburg on Monday, November 4, 2002 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Funeral service will follow the visitation starting at 8 p.m. with Bill Hunt officiating. MANN Caroline Shields Mann was born icon June 28, 1950 in Los Angeles, Calif. She was someone who was very active in all activities that she took part in. Carol graduated from Indiana University. She was very committed to programs such as the Upper Arlington PTO, church activities, Children's Museum Guild of Indianapolis, Columbus Art Museum Women's Board and Twig. She was an avid participant in golf, tennis, bridge, Investment Club and Book Club and gained many friends because of the passion she had for everything she took part in. Carol was preceded in death by her father George Rex Shields. She is survived by her husband, Robert Mann; children, Scott and Sarah Mann; her mother, Susan Shields of Indianapolis; brother, Kent (Nancy) Shields of Minneapolis. The family invites friends to join them at their home Friday, November 1, between 7-9 p.m. for a gathering of remembrance. MINTEER Ruth E. Minteer, age 96, of Columbus, died Saturday, October 26, 2002 at Mount Carmel Medical Center. Ruth graduated from Cadiz High School in 1924, received her Bachelor's Degree in Nursing from Johns Hopkins University and obtained her Master's Degree from Columbia University. She retired from the State of Ohio, Department of Health. She is survived by her nephew, Edward (Marilyn) Minteer; niece, Mary Minteer Garland; great-niece, Brenda Minteer (Kevin) Rarey; great-nephews, Stewart Minteer, Robert (Kristina) Minteer and Duane (Elizabeth) Garland; great-great-nieces, Megan Rarey and Miriam Garland; great-great-nephew, Lane Garland. Friends may call 10-11 a.m. Monday, November 4, 2002, SCHOEDINGER NORTHWEST CHAPEL, 1740 Zollinger Road, where the funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. Rev Mitch Wagner officiating. MOORE Paul F. Moore, Jr., 47, of Columbus, passed away Tuesday, October 29, 2002 at Riverside Methodist Hospital. Paul enjoyed fishing, racing and restoring old muscle cars. He is preceded in death by father Paul J. Moore and stepfather Paul McKenzie. Survived by daughter, Tabitha Moore, granddaughter, Jasmine, mother, Dorothy Mae McKenzie, grandmother, Goldie McDaniel, brothers, George (Cindy Lee), Duke (Dori) and Gary (Robin) Moore, numerous, aunts, uncles and cousins. A funeral service will be held 12 p.m. Friday, November 1, 2002 at SCHOEDINGER NORTH CHAPEL, 5554 Karl Rd., where family will receive friends Thursday from 5-8 p.m. and Friday 10 a.m. until the time of service. MOREHEAD Juanita Elnora Morehead departed this life October 29, 2002. Born July 16, 1923 to the union of Emmett R. and Ella Mae Crockett in Pence Springs, W.Va. Preceded in death by her parents, husbands Wilbur Straughter and Mack Morehead, 5 brothers and 2 sisters. She leaves to mourn, brothers, John William (Eloise) Crockett of Roosevelt, N.Y. and Eugene T. (Hettie) Crockett; sister, Emma Jean Neal; step-son, Donald Straughter, all of Columbus; 5 sisters-in-law; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. MORGAN Rollin Eugene Morgan, Lt. Col. USAF, (Retired), age 82, on Wednesday October 30, 2002. Lifetime resident of New Albany, OH. "Rollie" was proud to be an Army Air Corp and U.S. Air Force veteran, having served his country during WW II and the Korean Conflict. He flew 30 missions in the European Theater with the 3rd Bomb Division, 8th Air Force, 25 as a waist gunner on the crew of the Lead Aircraft of his B-17 Squadron. He was a charter member of the 166th Fighter Squadron, Ohio Air National Guard. He retired from the 121st Wing, Rickenbacker AFB, after completing 33 years of military service. He was a Master Mason of Sunrise Lodge #783. Charter Member Gahanna V.F.W. Post 4719. Preceded in death by loving wife of 55 years Betty, parents William H. and Ota B. Morgan. Survived by devoted daughter, Monica; granddaughter, Morgan Nicole Whitehead; sister, Agnes Campbell; nephew, Rick (Marilyn) Ward; Air National Guard family, "The Gang". POSTLEWAITE Margaret C. "Peggy" Postlewaite, age 84, Tuesday, October 29, 2002 at her home. Born July 17, 1918 in Jackson, Oh., the daughter of Charles and Margaret O'Donnell Chapman. Veteran WW II U.S. Navy. Graduate of St. Mary of the Springs College where she was a member of Kappa Gamma Pi and the St. Mary's Guild. Longtime member of St. Catharine Church. Survived by husband of 57 years, William N. Postlewaite; children, Margaret (Gerard) Kiernan, White Plains, NY, Betsy (Jim) Mason, Bill (Linda) Postlewaite, Susie Keaney, St. Louis, MO., Chuck Postlewaite and John (Laura) Postlewaite; 14 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; and caregivers, Holly Spaulding and Edna Sullivan. POWELL Claud F. Powell, Ph.D., of Columbus, died Monday, October 28, 2002 . Survived by sons, John (Wendy) Powell of Gahanna, OH. and Robert Powell of Bryan, TX; granddaughter, Rebecca; sister, Marguerite Conner of TX. Dr. Powell retired from the State of New York where he served as a drug and alcohol counselor for the state's prison system. He was a former professor of choral music at Ohio University; taught music at Campbell College in Buies Creek, NC., Erskine College, Due West SC.; beginning his teaching career as a high school music teacher in 1954. Claud received his PhD. in choral music from the University of Iowa in 1974, his Masters degree from Wichita State University in 1961 and his BA from Texas Wesleyan University, Class of 1953. He was a member of the National Association of Choral Directors and of the Music Educators' National Conference and was an avid golfer. Service will be private. PUETZ Anna M. Puetz, age 94, died October 30, 2002 at her residence in Columbus. Preceded in death by husband Walter Puetz, Sr., daughter Betty Hamilton, son Walter Puetz, Jr., grandson Steven Hamilton and granddaughter Cathy Puetz. Survived by granddaughter, Diane (Ahmad) Nahvi; grandson, Gary Hamilton; son-in-law, Eugene Hamilton; great-grandchildren, Jason and Justin Nahvi, Brian Hamilton, Christina (Ken) Ledbetter; three nephews; one niece; and a caring neighbor, Martha Johnson.
