KNECHT Bernath James Knecht, age 91, of Worthington, died Friday, May 3, 2002 at the Laurels of Worthington. Member of the Worthington Seventh-day Adventist Church. He retired as Plant Engineer from Worthington Foods, Inc. in 1975 after 36 years of service. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Elsie Knecht; sons and daughters-in-law, Bernath L. and Eleanore L. Knecht, Ronald J. and Donna S. Knecht; daughter, Rita M. Knecht; grandchildren, Marlin and (Sherry) Knecht, Verna and (Michael) Bernoi, Sonya and (Yasumoto) Hoshi; great-grandchildren, August, Anya, Elijah and Akele Knecht, Mathew and Michael Bernoi; sisters, Gladys Knecht and Frances Jewett; many nieces and nephews. Friends may call at the SCHOEDINGER WORTHINGTON CHAPEL, 6699 N. High St. (* mile south of I-270) Monday 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., where funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 7, 2002, with Pastor Loren Seibold officiating. Interment will follow at Fairview Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Worthington Seventh-day Adventist Church Building Fund, 870 Griswold St., Worthington, OH 43085.

LEWIS Kenneth Lewis, age 87, 10/21/14-5/3/02, Belfast Northern Ireland. Preceeded in death by parents, Harry & Rachel Lewis; brother Morrie & daughter-in-law Lesley. Survived by wife of 63 years, Sadie; daughter, Jacqueline Leary of Columbus; sons, Malcolm of Dublin Ireland & Eon (Maria) Toronto, Canada; Grandchildren & Great Grandchildren, Debra & Jeff Wilson, Jacob & Caleb; Nicola & Steve Lipster, Anna & Grace; Patrick (Amanda) Potter & John, Columbus; Tara & Anthony; Kelly Lewis of Toronto, Simon & Andrea Lewis of Dublin Ireland; brother & sister-in-law, Joey & Fay Lewis of Belfast Northern Ireland; Many Nieces and Nephews. Kenny was a wonderful husband, father and friend. He never knew a stranger and until a few weeks ago was still doing his charitable work. The Ex-President of The Chevra Kadisha. Burial today at Carn Money Cemetery, Shiva at 37 Glandore Ave., Belfast Northern Ireland.

LITTLE Luella M. Riebel Little, age 94, of London, went to be with the Lord Friday, May 3, 2002. She had been a patient at Arbors West Care Center, West Jefferson. Luella was born icon March 14, 1908 in Franklin County, the daughter of the late Charles J. and Anna Zeuschner Riebel. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. A past member of the late Darby Grange. Survivors include 2 sons, Forrest A. (Beverly) Little and Ralph A. (Connie) Little, all of West Jefferson; 4 grandchildren, Cathy Cordle of Grove City, Richard (Laurel) Little of Galloway, David (Jeri) Little of Mt. Sterling, Pam (Brian) Metsker of Grove City; 10 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by parents, husband Bruce A. Little, grandson Timothy Little and 4 brothers Carl, Edward, Raymond and Emery Riebel. Funeral service 11 a.m. Monday in the RADER-McDONALD FUNERAL HOME, 1355 West Main St., West Jefferson with Rev. Glade May officiating. Burial will follow in Paint Township Cemetery. Family and friends may call 4-8 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home.

McCALEB Louis S. "Lucky" McCaleb III, beloved husband of Patricia Jo McCaleb (nee Moeckel); devoted father of Shelly Marie Shomper and Tamara Ann Lamb; grandfather of Madison Taylor McCaleb; loving son of Rebecca (nee Keenan) and the late Louis S. McCaleb II; dear brother of Charlotte Hutchings and Michael McCaleb. Also blessed with a Magnitude of Friends. Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. May 3, 2002, age 58. McCULLOUGH Erin Colleen McCullough, 12 days old, May 1, 2002 at Children's Hospital. Survived by parents, Craig and Dawn McCullough; sister, Hannah; grandparents, John and Shirley McCullough, Richard Longfellow and Diane Shanks; other relatives and friends. Memorial Service 4 p.m. Sunday, May 5, 2002 at First Congregational Church, 444 E. Broad St., Columbus, Oh. Friends will be received following the service. McVAY Dorothy Faye (Johnston) McVay, age 92, of Westerville, Thursday, May 2, 2002 at home. Dorothy was a community leader in business and in service and a devoted resident of Westerville. Member Church of the Messiah United Methodist, Virginia Wright Mother's Guild, Otterbein College President's Club, Otterbein College "O" Club Foundation, honorary member of the Westerville Rotary Club and the Westerville Fire Department. She received an honorary Doctor of Law degree from Otterbein College and the Westerville South High School Hall of Fame Award. Preceded in death by her husband of over 50 years Maurice (Mac) McVay, brothers W. Lawson Johnston and Russell Johnston, sisters Laura Elliott Hough and Roberta Walker. Survived by many nieces and nephews. Friends may call at the MORELAND FUNERAL HOME, 55 E. Schrock Rd., Westerville, Sunday 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Service will be held at Church of the Messiah U.M., 51 N. State St., Westerville, Monday 11 a.m., where friends may call 1 hour before the service. Dr. Arthur Schultz officiating. Interment Blendon Central Cemetery. O'BRIEN Charles J. O'Brien, Jr., age 78, of Dublin, Oh., Friday, May 3, 2002, formerly of McDonald, Pa. PIPES Jerry Lee Pipes, age 55, died May 2, 2002 at his residence. He is survived by his daughter, Johanna S. Pipes; son, Patrick Pipes; father, Clayton E. Pipes; mother, Ethel DelMatto; sister, Bonnie Internoscia; brother, Danny Pipes; grandson, Devon; granddaughter, Chantelee. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. POLLEY Maisie Polley, age 93, Thursday, May 2, 2002 at St. Rita's Home for the Aged. Preceded in death by husband Clarence Polley, parents Edward and Biona Smith and brothers Charles and Clyde. Survived by son, Mark Polley of Reno, Nev.; daughter, Lisa Snodgrass; grandchildren, Heather, Rachel and Tyler; sisters, Irene Coleman and Ruby Canode; nieces and nephews. REYNOLDS Corbett C. Reynolds, age 58, of Columbus, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, May 1, 2002 in Savannah, GA. He was a well known artist and will be missed dearly. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Andrew M. and Tawna Jensen, Columbus; brother and sister-in-law, James and Louanne Reynolds, Cornersville, TN; and a host of wonderful friends. SCHIFF Born October 6, 1916, in Columbus, Ohio, Herbert H. Schiff, a major leader recognized for his contributions to worldwide philanthropy and humanitarian causes, passed away May 2, 2002. A beloved husband, father grandfather, brother, and mentor, he is survived by wife, Betty Topkis Schiff; daughters, Suzanne Gallant of Branford, CT, Patricia (Richard) Hershorin of Sarasota, FL., and Jane Schiff, of Atlanta, GA; grandchildren, Deborah Gallant, Eric Gallant, Laura Hershorin, W.D. Hershorin, Jamie Fleckner, and Dan Fleckner; and four great-grandchildren; sisters, Florence "Fredi" Levin and Mildred Lee; and many other relatives and friends. Pre-deceased by grandson, Thomas E. Fleckner. The son of Lithuanian immigrant parents, he married icon Betty in 1938, the same year he graduated from the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School of Business. Following his graduation, he began his footwear business training under the tutelage of his father, Robert W. Schiff, founder of the Schiff Shoe Company. He worked through the executive ranks to become chairman and CEO of SCOA Industries (predecessor of Shoe Corporation of America) from Schiff Shoes. While chiefly known then for his financial acumen, he was instrumental in the successful growth of many local and national organizations through his philanthropy. Mr. Schiff was then chairman and president of the Schiff Company from 1985-2000. A member of the Columbus Jewish Foundation's Executive Committee, he also served as the president and chairman of its board of trustees. In 1994, Schiff was named chairman emeritus of the Board of Governors of Yeshiva University's Wurzweiler School of Social Work after serving as its founding chairman for a decade. In 1984, he and Betty established the Herbert H. Schiff Chair in Management and Administration at the Wurzweiler School. In addition, he was a member of the Board of Trustees of the Yeshiva University for 15 years and received their honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degree. Honorary Vice-President of the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee and the American Jewish Committee, and emeritus trustee of Peddie School, he served as trustee of American Friends of Hebrew University and the United Jewish Appeal; director of American ORT Federation; president and chairman of the Education Foundation of the American Retail Federation; director of BancOhio National Bank; chairman of the Foundation of the Columbus Jewish Federation; trustee of Children's Hospital and Temple Israel Foundation (Columbus), executive committee member of Brandeis University and advisory council for Capital University; director of American Footwear Industries Assn., National Retail Merchants Assn., and Ohio State Council of Retail Merchants. Recipient of a Distinguished Service Award from the Ohio Council of Retail Merchants (1997), Recipient of the Columbus Jewish Foundation Endowment Achievement Award (1996) the Kesser Shem Tov Award (Beth Jacob Congregation – 1986), the Doctor of Humane Letters (Ohio Dominican College – 1984) the Israel Prime Minister's Medal (1979), the American Jewish Committee's Milton Weill Human Relations Award (1979) the City of Hope's Spirit of Life Award (1977), the American ORT Federation's Community Achievement Award (1984), the T. Kenyon Holly Award of Two/Ten Associates (1976), the Ben Mandelkorn Award, Columbus Jewish Federation (2000). Funeral Service 2 p.m., Sunday, May 5, 2002, at Temple Israel, 5419 E. Broad Street, with Rabbi Arthur P. Nemitoff officiating. Interment to follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Columbus Jewish Federation, Israel Emergency Fund, 1175 College Ave., Columbus, OH 43209 or the Sarasota-Manatee Jewish Federation, Israel Emergency Fund 580 S.
