FILBIN Robert L. Filbin, age 85, of Orient, passed away Saturday, May 4, 2002. He was a tool and die maker for Jaeger Machine Co. for 17 years, and General Motors for 17 years. He is preceded in death by his son Robert L. Irwin and a brother Edward L. Filbin. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Margaret Filbin; sons, Frank C. (Millie) Filbin Sr., Reynoldsburg, Edward L. (Ruth), Orient, Mike A. (Barb), Orient, and Charles E. Filbin, Dallas, Tex.; daughters, Roberta N. (James) Hoptry, Upper Arlington, Janet L. (David) Smith, Ft. Worth, Tex., and Marty (Jay) Ware, Orient; brother, Richard Filbin, NY; 23 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Marty Irwin; brother-in-law, George M. HARTMAN Howard E. Hartman, age 79, of Lancaster passed away, Saturday, May 4, 2002. Survived by daughter and son-in-law, Kathy (Jim) Martin, Lancaster; son, Howard Brad Hartman, of Glouster, friends and relatives. Preceded in death by his wife Viola "Vickie" Hartman. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the HALTEMAN-FETT AND DYER FUNERAL HOME, Lancaster. Friends may call 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, at the funeral home. HELLINGER Paul H. Hellinger, 73, died May 2, 2002. A US Army Veteran of the Korean Conflict, he was a member of Northampton United Methodist Church. He retired from White Westinghouse with over 40 years service, and was co-owner of Tours 'N Tours Travel, Inc. He is survived by wife, Margaret A.; children, Susan (Bob) Fischer, J.D. (Dana) Hellinger, all of Pittsburgh; Neal (Mary) Thomas of Bath; David Thomas of Cuyahoga Falls; grandchildren, Rick and Alexandra (Ali) Thomas, Molly Sue Fischer, Logan and Alexandra Hellinger; sisters, Elaine (Fred) Jones, Mary Filipeli, Judy (Ed) Boggs, Jeanne Hellinger; many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, at the BILLOW FAIRLAWN CHAPEL, 85 N. Miller Rd., with Rev. David Scavuzzo and Rev. Richard Crabbs officiating. HOCHRADEL Betty G. Hochradel, 78, Baltimore, died Saturday, May 4, 2002 at Mt. Carmel East Hospital, Columbus. She was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ and former owner of Rippling Stream Campground. She is survived by her husband, Carl Hochradel; daughters, Carol S. Steele, Karen L. Billingsley, both of Baltimore, Jillinda A. (William) Simpsen of Thornville; sons, Ronald C. (Donna) Hochradel, Bradley D. Hochradel, both of Lancaster; 12 grandchildren, 2 step-grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, 5 step-great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-granddaughter; sisters, Janice Cover, Canal Winchester, Marianne Chapman, Pataskala; several cousins, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents Gerald and Pearl Kraner. Caring cremation has taken place. Burial will be at Basil Memorial Cemetery at the convenience of the family. KAEPPNER Donald R. Kaeppner, age 74, of Worthington, died Thursday, May 2, 2002 at Arlington Court Nursing Center. Veteran of the U.S. Army, WW II, he was retired from the Worthington Schools System. Preceded in death by his wife Helen. Survived by his children, Donna E. (Joe) Power of Columbus, Donald E. Kaeppner of Worthington, Mark A. (Jeanne) Kaeppner of Dublin, Albert G. Kaeppner of Columbus, Kathleen L. (David) Dillon of Gahanna, Jaqueline (Terry) Sparks of Hilliard, Joellen (Jim) Thomas of Dublin and Jill Fenstermaker of Dublin; grandchildren, Alec, Emily, Adam, John, Anthony and Christine; sister, Phyllis Williams of Columbus; brothers, Henry Kaeppner of Columbus and Ralph Kaeppner of Mt. KNECHT Bernath James Knecht, age 91, of Worthington, died Friday, May 3, 2002 at the Laurels of Worthington. Member of the Worthington Seventh-day Adventist Church. He retired as Plant Engineer from Worthington Foods, Inc. in 1975 after 36 years of service. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Elsie Knecht; sons and daughters-in-law, Bernath L. and Eleanore L. Knecht, Ronald J. and Donna S. Knecht; daughter, Rita M. Knecht; grandchildren, Marlin and (Sherry) Knecht, Verna and (Michael) Bernoi, Sonya and (Yasumoto) Hoshi; great-grandchildren, August, Anya, Elijah and Akele Knecht, Mathew and Michael Bernoi; sisters, Gladys Knecht and Frances Jewett; many nieces and nephews. KUENTZ (BELL) Isal (Bell) Kuentz, age 85, passed away suddenly Friday, May 3, 2002. Preceded in death by husbands Joseph Bell and Joseph Kuentz. Survived by son and daughter-in-law, Bob (Vera Loraine) Bell; grandson, Kevin Bell and his fiancee', Stephanie Hill; numerous nieces, nephews and many dear and close friends, especially Ralph Guess. Funeral service 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 7, 2002 in the LONG FUNERAL HOME, 5528 Cleveland Ave. (1 block south SR 161). LOSEY Lura L. Losey, age 96, of Upper Arlington, died Saturday, May 4, 2002 at The Forum at Knightsbridge Healthcare Center. She taught for two years in a one room schoolhouse in Claibourne Township in Union County. She was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Marvin D. Losey in 1995. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law: W. Marvin and Virginia Losey, of Dublin; granddaughter, Anita Miller and husband, James; great grandchildren, Renee (Hiram) Sipes, Bill (Penny) Wyner, Susan Wyner and Cheryl Miller; great-great grandson, Tyler Sipes; sister-in-law, Maxine Sidle, of Richwood, Oh. and several nieces and nephews. She was a longtime member of Trinity United Methodist Church and was formerly active and a Past President of the Women's Society. Lura loved to knit warm bedsocks for the patients at Apple Creek Developmental Center and has donated over 700 pairs. She was a 75 year member of O. E. S. Chapter, Richwood, Ohio. Funeral service will be held 1:00 p.m. Tuesday at SCHOEDINGER NORTHWEST CHAPEL, 1740 Zollinger Road, where friends may call after 12 Noon Tuesday until time of service. Dr. Frank Luchsinger will officiate. Interment to follow at York Center Cemetery, Richwood, Oh. LYNSKEY Maxine M. (Crooks) Lynskey, age 80, May 2, 2002, Doctors West Hospital. Preceded in death by brother Cyril Crooks. Survived by husband of 54 years, Jack; children, Rev. Herbert L. (Suzy) Lynskey, Marlo M. Gilley, Daryl C. (Nancy) Lynskey; 9 grandchildren; sisters, Florence Cordell and Jean Eckert. Charter member of Karl Road Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), where she was the first Woman Elder and Chairperson of the board. MATHENY JR. Jess Matheny Jr. of Nelsonville passed away on Friday, May 3, 2002 at his daughter's residence in Athens. He was born icon November 18, 1938 in Nelsonville. He was the son of the late Jess Sr. and Etta Hall Matheny. He formerly worked at the Warehouse Services in Columbus, and Oggs Wholesale in Nelsonville. He is survived by his daughter, Kim (Eric) Young of Athens; 2 sons, Mike (Grace) Matheny of Nelsonville and Jesse Matheny and friend Betsy of Nelsonville; 1 grandson, Kyle Young of Athens; 2 stepgrandchildren, Daniel Wiseman and Kathy Wickmann; 3 sisters, Virginia Childers of Columbus, Gertrude (Ralph) Keiffer, and Sylvia (Joe) Hanning of Nelsonville; two special friends, Charlotte Smart and Joann Matheny; and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by an infant sister Beatrice Mae, sisters Eleanor Korbel and Charlotte Hillyer, and a special uncle Harvey Hall. McVAY Dorothy Faye (Johnston) McVay, age 92, of Westerville, Thursday, May 2, 2002 at home. Dorothy was a community leader in business and in service and a devoted resident of Westerville. Member Church of the Messiah United Methodist, Virginia Wright Mother's Guild, Otterbein College President's Club, Otterbein College "O" Club Foundation, honorary member of the Westerville Rotary Club and the Westerville Fire Department. She received an honorary Doctor of Law degree from Otterbein College and the Westerville South High School Hall of Fame Award. Preceded in death by her husband of over 50 years Maurice (Mac) McVay, brothers W. Lawson Johnston and Russell Johnston, sisters Laura Elliott Hough and Roberta Walker. Survived by many nieces and nephews. Friends may call at the MORELAND FUNERAL HOME, 55 E. Schrock Rd., Westerville, Sunday 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Service will be held at Church of the Messiah U.M., 51 N.
