POLING Virgil S. Poling, age 74, of Westerville, Monday, May 6, 2002 at home. He was born October 29, 1927 in Columbus, Oh., the son of Virgil S. and Grace Montgomery Poling Sr. Graduated from Central High School and attended The Ohio State University. Formerly employed as a civil engineer for the State of Ohio and held various sales jobs. WW II Veteran of U.S. Coast Guard. Survived by wife, Marlene; children, Deborah Williams, Tamara McAlister, Clinton Poling, Sandra Poling, April Montgomery, Eric Poling and Kirk Poling; 17 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren. Friends may call at the MORELAND FUNERAL HOME, 55 E. Schrock Rd., Westerville, Wednesday 6-8 p.m., where service will be held Thursday 1:30 p.m. Pastor John Taranto officiating. REIF Margaret Hopkins Reif, age 95, passed away Tuesday, May 7, 2002 at her residence. Preceded in death by husband Carl. Survived by niece, JoAnne (Richard) Burris; grandnieces, Jennifer Burris of Coco Beach, Fla. and Barbara (Randall) Crawford of Rome, Ga. Friends may call at the O.R. WOODYARD CO. CHAPEL, 2300 E. Livingston Ave., Thursday 6-8 p.m. Graveside service will be held at Glen Rest cemetery on Friday at 10 a.m. Dr. William L. Snider officiating.

RUSH Ray A. Rush, age 87, passed away at First Community Village Health Care Center on Saturday, May 4, 2002. Born October 26, 1914 in Mt. Vernon, OH, Ray is survived by his wife, Ruth (Wheeler) Rush; son and daughter-in-law, Roger R. and Susie Rush of Ft. Worth, TX; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and brother, Harold (Louise) Rush of Bellville, Oh. Preceded in death by his parents, Edgar and Margaret (Turney) Rush; son, Richard Rush; first wife, Grace (Holtom) Rush; brother, Edgar Rush; and sister, Estelle Gregory. Ray retired in 1975 from Continental Group (formerly Shellmar Co., Mt. Vernon, OH) after 39 years of service in Mt. Vernon, Chicago, and Paoli, PA. Friends may call 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at SCHOEDINGER NORTHWEST CHAPEL, 1740 Zollinger Road, where the funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 9, 2002, conducted by Rev. Thomas Albaum, Covenant Presbyterian Church, of which Ray and Ruth are members. Interment will follow at 12:30 p.m. Thursday at Mound View cemetery, Mt. Vernon, OH. SANDERS Pressie "Jake" Sanders, age 97, formerly of 926 Wooddall Dr., Urbana, Oh., died Tuesday, May 7, 2002 at 1 a.m. in Mercy McAuley Center, Urbana, Oh. He was born September 17, 1904 in Beaver, Oh. to Charles and Mary B. (Stoll) Sanders. He was a mechanic with Sanders Sales & Services. He is survived by sons, Charles (Bea) Sanders of Urbana, Donald (Barbara) Sanders of Sunrise Beach, Mo. and Richard (Betty) Sanders of Des Plaines, Ill.; grandchildren, Linda (Peter) Archer, Michael (Rita) Sanders, Kimberly (Phillip) Schaeffer, Steven (Ann) Sanders, Jeffrey (Lisa) Sanders, Bradley Sanders, Nathan (Nancy) Sanders; great-grandchildren, Jocelyn Archer, Jacob Schaeffer, Mary Roselynne Sanders, Rebecca Schaeffer, Addison Jeffrey Sanders, Scott Sanders, Charles Bishop Sanders, Mikaela Schaeffer, Chad Sanders, Timothy Sanders and Hope Sanders; brother, Elmer "Bing" Sanders of Columbus, Oh.; sister, Thelma LeBeau of Mt. SMITH Chris E. Hilborn Smith, 46, of Mansfield, died Tuesday, May 7, 2002 in her home following a sudden illness. Born November 16, 1955 in Bucyrus to Berl and Jean (Null) Hilborn. She was graduated from Ridgedale High School in 1975, and recently found much pleasure working with the Maddox Group of Dublin. She is survived by her son, Eric Masters of Breckenridge, CO; her daughter, Casey Smith of Dayton; her father of Morral; sisters and brothers, Lynne Mathews of Sandusky, Johnna and Jim Drozdowski of Portland, OR, Tim and Cheryl Hilborn of Chesterville, and Ted and Deb Hilborn of Tiffin. Her mother preceded her in death. To honor Chris, a special service will be held Friday, May 10, 2002 at 7 p.m. in Epworth United Methodist Church, 249 East Center Street, Marion, Oh. STORTS Mary E. Storts, age 87, of Canal Winchester, died Tuesday, May 7, 2002 at Winchester Place Nursing Home. Born August 29, 1914 in Carroll to the late Jess Benjamin and Verta Mae (Jackson) Alspach. She was a 1932 graduate of Carroll High School and a member of Hope United Methodist Church. Preceded in death by husband Charley W. Storts in 1986, grandson Tommy Burnheimer in 1993, brothers John and Jesse Alspach and sisters Dorothy Koontz, Mamie Arledge and Bernice Roshon. SURGOINE Susan Lynn Surgoine, 61, of Somerset, Oh., departed this life on Saturday, May 4, 2002 at Fairfield Medical Center, Lancaster, Oh. She was born March 23, 1941 at Charleston, W.Va. The beloved daughter of Julia Welch (Reveal) Wright of Point Pleasant, W.Va. and the late Leslie Reveal and step-daughter of the late Lawrence Wright. She was a graduate of Point Pleasant High School, Point Pleasant, W.Va. and attended Marshall University in Huntington, W.Va., a member of the Somerset United Methodist Church. She was the former owner of the Cottage Craft Shop in Pickerington, Oh. She was also a creative artist and taught classes in tole painting, water colors and other arts and crafts. She was a loving wife and a wonderful mother and grandmother. She is survived by her loving husband of 40 years, Terry L. Surgoine of Somerset, Oh.; 2 loving sons and their spouses, Todd A. Surgoine and his wife, Lisa of Columbus, Oh., Glen E. Surgoine and his wife, Wendy of Fort Lauderdale, Fla. She was also a special sister and sister-in-law to her brother, Larry Wright and his wife, Sherry of Point Pleasant, W.Va. and to her step-brother, Michael Wright and his wife, Jo Ellen of Frankfort, Oh. Susan was greatly loved by her 2 grandchildren, Sean Michael and Kaylee Marie. She will be sadly missed by her many friends and loved ones. Service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday, May 9, 2002 at the FREEMAN FUNERAL HOME, Chapmanville, W.Va., with Minister John Workman officiating. WEIMER Martin R. "Dick" Weimer, 89, of Friendship Village of Columbus, died Sunday, May 5, 2002. He is preceded in death by wife of 58 years Clara M. and sisters Clarabelle and Bette. Burial will follow in Newark Memorial Gardens. Mr. Wills, who worked as a tax consultant and insurance agent for over 60 years, died May 7, 2002 at Licking Memorial Hospital. He was born December 6, 1917 in Columbus, Oh. to the late Rev. Lot C. and Effie Mae (Reid) Wills. Mr. Wills was a 1934 graduate of Zanesville High School and attended The Ohio State University. He was an avid fisherman. Surviving are daughter and son-in-law, Darlene and Charles Baker; sons and daughter-in-law, Roger C. Wills, David B. and Sharon Wills, all of Newark; 9 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years Roberta, who died May 27, 2000 and by a sister Laura Pearce and a daughter-in-law Cheryl Wills.
