Rita J. "Jan" Morton
(1935 - 2003)

Rita J. "Jan" Morton, 67, of Bryan, died late Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2003, at Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne, Ind.
Born Sept. 6, 1935, in Auburn, Ind., to Eva L. (Sweet) and William G. Weinert, she married Carson G. Morton on Feb. 11, 1961, in Auburn, Ind., and he survives.
A homemaker, she was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Bryan, where she was also a member of the choir. She served as treasurer for the Community Concert Association and was a former member of the Bryan City Band. She served on the Williams County YWCA Board of Directors, was a Girl Scout leader and an LPN.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Chris (Susan B.) Holewinski of Indianapolis, Ind., and Sandra K. Morton of Bryan; and two granddaughters, Elaine and Chloe Holewinski, both of Indianapolis, Ind.
Preceding her in death were her parents and a brother, William D. Weinert.
Visitation will be held Friday from 10-11 a.m. in the First Presbyterian Church, Bryan.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. in the church with the Rev. Edward Auchard and the Rev. Theron Diehl to officiate. Burial will follow at the Brown Cemetery. Rice-Burr Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church Building Fund.

H. Roy Forbes
(1930 - 2003)

H. Roy Forbes, 73, of Bryan, died Sunday, Feb. 2, 2003, at the Community Hospital of Williams County-Bryan, after an extended illness.
Born Jan. 29, 1930, in Coldwater, Mich., to Anna (Olney) and Homer Forbes, he married Maxine Bruot in 1948 and she survives.
In 1955, he was the owner of Busy Corners in Edgerton. He then went into the truck driving business working for Mohawk Trucking for six years and then went on to own his own truck driving company.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Todd (and wife, Laresa) Forbes of Bryan; a daughter, Candy Harrington of Defiance; two grandsons; and one great-granddaughter.
Preceding him in death were his parents and two brothers, Warren and Ervin Forbes.
Visitation will be held Saturday from 2 p.m. until the time of service in the Rice-Burr Funeral Home, Bryan.
A memorial service will be held Saturday at 3 p.m. in the funeral home with burial to follow in Brown Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Cancer Assistance of Williams County.

Nadine Shoemaker
(1912 - 2003)

COLUMBIA CITY, Ind. - Nadine Shoemaker, 90, of Etna Troy Township, died Monday, Feb. 3, 2003, at Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne, where she was admitted on Tuesday, Jan. 28.
Born Nov. 22, 1912, in Williams County, Ohio, to Allie (Coblentz) and Albert Heller, she married Edgar L. Shoemaker on Oct. 10, 1948, and he preceded her in death on Oct. 7, 1996.
A graduate of Montpelier High School, Montpelier, Ohio, she moved to Fort Wayne in the 1940s and attended beauty college, later working as a beautician in the Fort Wayne area. After her marriage, she moved to Columbia City and in 1951 to Etna Troy Township, Whitley County. A homemaker, she was a member of Columbia City United Methodist Church and its Susann group, the Etna Troy Homemakers Club and A.A.R.P.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. David (Karen) Smith of Great Falls, Va.; a son, Steven E. (and wife, Christine) Shoemaker of Columbia City; and two grandchildren, Jennifer Shoemaker of Fort Wayne and Joshua Shoemaker of Columbia City.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Verlyn Heller, George Heller and Oral Heller; and a sister, Carma Altaffer.
Visitation will be held Wednesday from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. in the Smith and Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City, and Thursday one hour before the funeral service in the West Point Trinity United Methodist Church, 4980 N. Etna Rd., Columbia City.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. in the church with the Rev. Karen Biddle and the Rev. Berniece Herr to officiate. Burial will be in Nolt Cemetery, south of Columbia City. Memorials may be made to Columbia City United Methodist Church or West Point Trinity United Methodist Church.

DeWayne V. Peter
(1922 - 2003)

FARMER - DeWayne V. Peter, 80, of Farmer, died Saturday afternoon, Feb. 1, 2003, at his home following an extended illness.
Born Nov. 13, 1922, in Milford Township of Defiance County, to Beatrice (Miller) and Earl Peter, he married Blanche A. Lee on May 22, 1942, in Hyannis Port, Mass., and she survives.
A farmer, he had served in the United States Army in the European theater during World War II. He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Bryan and the Farmer American Legion. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Daniel (Peggy L.) Vermillion of Bryan and Deborah A. Hutchison of Pioneer; a son, Tim D. (and wife, Kathleen) Peter of Edgerton; three grandchildren, Jennifer Nichols, Jessica Timbrook and Kerrie Hutchison; seven great-grandchildren; a brother, Kermit Peter of Hicksville; and a sister, LaVerne Beard of Kankakee, Ill.
Preceding him in death was a brother, Willard Peter.
Visitation will be held Tuesday one hour prior to the funeral services in the Trinity Lutheran Church, Bryan.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. in the church with Pastor Richard Buchsteiner to officiate. Burial will follow in the Farmer Cemetery with graveside military rites conducted by the Farmer American Legion.
Memorials may be made to Community Hospitals of Williams County, Hospice Care or to the Trinity Lutheran Church in Bryan.
Arrangements were provided by Krill Funeral Service in Edgerton.

Ernest H. Fitzenrider
(1918 - 2003)

STRYKER - Ernest H. Fitzenrider, 84, of Stryker, died Saturday evening, Feb. 1, 2003, at the Community Hospital of Williams County, Bryan.
Born Dec. 12, 1918, in Stryker, he was the son of Cula (Betts) and Henry Fitzenrider.
Prior to his retirement, he had been a farmer and had worked at Metal Forge in Stryker. He was an Army veteran of World War II.
Surviving are four sisters, Evelyn Barron of Angola, Ind., Mrs. Gene (Mary) Marks of New Haven, Ind., Mrs. James (Thelma) Bowers of Clear Lake, Ind., and Mrs. Leonard (Joan) Miller of Findlay; three brothers, James (and wife, Phyllis) Fitzenrider of Montpelier, Paul (Ruth) Fitzenrider of Defiance and Denver Fitzenrider of Sherwood; his long-time friend, Odessa Woodart and her extended family.
Visitation will be held Wednesday from 2-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. in the Grisier Funeral Home, Stryker.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. in the funeral home with the Rev. John MacFarlane to officiate. Interment will follow in the Oakwood Cemetery in Stryker.
Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

David A. Moden
(1955 - 2003)

WAUSEON - David A. Moden, 47, of Wauseon, died Friday morning, Jan. 31, 2003, at the Fulton County Health Center, following a short battle with cancer.
Born May 7, 1955, in Hudson, Mich., to Leona (Stites) and Leonard Moden, he married Cathy Sheffer on March 20, 1976 and she survives.
Employed at Nafziger Ice Cream for 10 years and Sauder Manufacturing for 10 years, he also drove truck for Bryan Truck Lines and for CPC Logistics, delivering to the Walgreens Stores of Detroit and Toledo. While at Sauder Manufacturing, he learned to drive semi-truck and also installed church pews for the last five years. He was a member of the Tedrow United Methodist Church.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are three sons, Shawn Moden of Wauseon, Wesley (and wife, Melissa) Moden of Delta and Todd Moden of Wauseon; his mother, Leona Moden of Wauseon; 10 brothers and sisters, Mrs. Paul (Donna) Rohrs of Stryker, James (Karen) Moden, Lloyd (Mary Jane) Moden, John (Jenny) Moden and Laurel Girdham, all of Wauseon, Roger (Linda) Moden and Mrs. Terry (Karen) Yeager, both of Delta, Keith (Linda) Moden of Lexington, Texas, Junior (Kim) Moden of Mira Loma, Calif., and Philip (Becky) Moden of Miamisburg; two brothers-in-law, Bill Sheffer of St. Charles, Mo. and Tim (Teresa) Sheffer of Wauseon; two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Dave (Betty) Baldwin of Bryan and Mrs. Jim (Wilda) Kalb of Edgerton; several nieces and nephews; and numerous great-nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his father, a sister, Beverly Yarbro; and two nieces, Dreama and Lisa Girdham.
Visitation will be held Tuesday from 2-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. in the Edgar-Grieser Funeral Home in Wauseon.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the Tedrow United Methodist Church with the Rev. Joe Chrisman to officiate. Interment will follow in the Tedrow Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Tedrow United Methodist Church or to a charity of the donor's choice.
