LaPAT George Anthony LaPat, went to be with our Lord on Friday, May 10, 2002 at his home in Vista, Calif. He was preceded in death by his treasured wife Rose LaPat. He is survived by sons, Greg (Anita) LaPat, Daniel (Cherry) LaPat and Charlie (Holly) LaPat; daughters, Barbara Biller, Janet Stewart, Marie (Bill) McFarland and Rosalee (Gordon) Biller; 22 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; brother, Jerry LaPat; sisters, Gabriella Rockwell; special friends, Bob and Ilene Hamilton. Also preceded in death by brothers Albert, Carl and Frank LaPat and sisters Helen and Edith LaPat and grandson Robert Biller. Through the years, George was a race car driver, truck driver, tool and die man, welder, auto mechanic, home builder and will live on in the memories of a lot of people in the years to come. A memorial service will be held at Walnut Heights Baptist Church, 1660 Lattimer Dr., Columbus, Oh. Pastor Ben Gillilan will conduct service Thursday May 16 at 7:30 p.m.

MILNER Emerson H. Milner, age 75, passed away Friday, May 10, 2002 at Traditions at Stygler Road. Emerson attended Columbus Public Schools. Retired from Boeing-North America as an aircraft builder with over 35 years of service. Emerson was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church where he served on the Usher Board and Pallbearers Team until his health failed. Past Master of Samaritan Lodge #117, Prince Hall, F&AM; member of John C. Logan Chapter #53, Royal Arch Masons, Rollin F. Kelley Sr. Court #4, Heroines of Jericho; Taylor Commandery #6, Knights Templar, L.D. PARKS Sister Virginia L. Parks, Sunday, in peace with Christ at Gahanna Plus. Widow of George. Former member of Refuge Baptist Church under Rev. Dr. R.F. Hairston Sr. Member of Ebenezer Baptist Church under Rev. L.C. Brown. Along with her husband George, her sister and brother-in-law Emanuel and Elvira Strickland, she was the last surviving member of the famous Rosebud Gospel Quartet. PATTON MORRIS Captain Mindy Jean Patton Morris, age 33, a native of Westerville, Oh., died Monday, May 6, at her residence in Durban, South Africa after a lengthy illness. Mindy Patton Morris was born June 2, 1968 in Columbus, Oh. She will be truly missed by her loving husband, Trevor Morris of Durban, her devoted parents Dick and Jean (Lannert) Patton of Westerville and 2 brothers, Tim (Linda) Patton of Croton and Andrew (Patti) Patton of Columbus. She is also survived by 4 adoring nieces, Valerie, Christa, Tara and Camryn Patton. She was preceded in death by a brother Billy Patton in 1964. Ms. Patton Morris was a professional Sea Captain and spent a great deal of her life on the sea. She was an accomplished sailor and made numerous transatlantic trips in 42' sailboats in recent years. She began as a gifted swimmer in Westerville as a member of the WAC and found her true love of sailing after moving to Fla. to attend college. She graduated from Westerville South High School in 1986. A funeral service is scheduled for Tuesday, May 14 in Durban, South Africa. She will be interred to the sea off the coast of Durban. A Memorial Service to celebrate her life will be held Sunday, June 2 at 4 p.m. at the Broad Street Christian Church, 1049 East Broad St., Columbus, Oh. Calling hours will be from 3-4 p.m. All attending are invited to greet the family at a buffet immediately following the service. Memorial contributions may be made in her honor to Save the Manatee Club, 500 N. Maitland Ave., Maitland, Fla. 32751.

PRATT Christy Ann Pratt, age 46, formerly of Columbus, Oh., died May 11, 2002 in Montgomery, WV. Preceded in death by grandmother Mildred Nott. Survived by husband, Sam Joseph Pratt; daughter, Misty Kauff of Cabin Creek, WV; son, Michael (Tiffany) Kauff of Campbells Creek, WV; parents, Bill and Janet Shields of Pataskala; step-son, Sam J. RAWLINGS Edna Keith Rawlings, age 93, of Columbus, died Sunday, May 12, 2002 at Friendship Village of Columbus. Retired Buyer at the Union Company and Long's Book Store. Preceded in death by her husband Caldwell M. "Rawly" Rawlings. She is survived by her son, James (Linda) Rawlings of Columbus; granddaughters, Deborah Rawlings and Andrea Watts; 2 great-granddaughters. Edna was a 75-year member of the former St. Luke's Lutheran Church. Graveside service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 15, 2002 at Oak Grove cemetery, Delaware, Oh. RILEY Deloris E. (Kimball) Riley, age 97, of Columbus, died at home on Wednesday, May 1, 2002. Born in New Lexington, received a Bachelor of Education degree from Ohio University and graduate studies at OSU, Capital and Miami Universities. "Dollie" began teaching in the Perry County and New Lexington School Systems, later teaching in and retiring from both Edina, Minn. (Hoodale Elementary) and Bexley, Oh. (Montrose & Cassingham Elementary) School Systems. Mrs. Riley was a devoted 4th grade teacher, greatly admired by her peers, her many students and their parents. Dollie was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, professional sorority, AAUW, OEA, NEA and numerous educational organizations. She was a member of Hennepin United Methodist Church in Minneapolis. Preceded in death by her husband Frank Riley, her parents Ada and James Kimball, her brothers Harold and Wade Kimball, sister Ruby Phylis Kimball, sister-in-law Alice (Wade) Kimball and brother-in-law Don E. Thatcher. Dollie is survived by her sister, Esther Lou Thatcher; nephews, Dr. Richard K. Thatcher, Gary E. Thatcher, all of Columbus, K. Philip Kimball of Delaware, Wade Dinsmore Kimball of Rohnert Park, Calif.; niece, Renee Kimball Wadleigh of Urbana, Ill., their spouses and family. Dollie will be loving remembered and deeply missed by all. By request, a private family graveside memorial service will be held at New Lexington cemetery. ROLOSON Ruth Elizabeth Roloson, age 93, longtime Worthington resident, Monday, May 13, 2002 at Columbus Alzheimer's Care Center. Preceded in death by husband Alfred Henry Roloson and brother Wendell F. Stultz. Survived by daughters, Margaret Ann Maloon and Saundra May (Robert R.) Rowles; grandchildren, Jerry Lee Maloon II, Stephen Allen (Nicole Lyn) Bratton; sister, Margaret Rose Loomis; and other relatives and friends. Volunteer with the Red Cross for many years. SHEAHAN Jeanne S. "Suthy" Sheahan, 73, passed away at home May 1, 2002. Graduate of Upper Arlington High School, attended Miami University, Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from The Ohio State University. Member of the Buckeye Boys Ranch Service Board, Childhood League Board 5, Catherine Black Cancer Ray, Twig 107 of Children's Hospital, Delta Gamma Sorority, Delta Tau Delta Mother's Club. Preceded in death by parents Francis B. and Lewis W. Sutherland, son Douglas C. Sheahan. Survived by husband, John R. and son, Richard L. Sheahan, Upper Arlington; sister, Anne (William) Bright of Huron, Oh.; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Robert and Jean Sheahan of Melbourne, Fla.; grandchildren, Sadie Lucille and Meggie Elizabeth Sheahan of Grandview; nieces, Debbie Bright, Vicki Timple (Bright) and Susan Sheahan. STEINBOWER T. Gorton "Gorty" Steinbower, 87, of Newark, Oh., died May 12, 2002 in LPN Nursing Home. Born June 14, 1914 in Portsmouth, Oh., son of the late Charles A. and Ida (Sells) Steinbower. Worked as an accountant at the Ohio Department of Transportation. Received his B.S. in accounting from Franklin University. THOMAS Bess Land Thomas, vivacious at age 78, unexpectedly returned to the Creator Friday, May 10, 2002. She is survived by her 3 children, Pamela Thomas, Robin Thomas, and Adam L. Thomas; sister, Joyce McCotter. A long time resident of the Clintonville area in Columbus, she was a beloved mother, wife, grandmother, sister and friend. She was born in New Bern, North Carolina in 1924. She married Marine Corp. Pilot Robert L. Thomas and moved to Columbus, Ohio. They raised a family and were married for 50 years. A magical gardener, Bess was active in the FRANKLIN PARK CONSERVATORY, the CENTRAL OHIO ORCHID SOCIETY, and the OHIO ROSE SOCIETY. She was a member of the P.E.O. SISTERHOOD and a supporter of the COLUMBUS JAZZ ARTS GROUP and the NATIONAL TRUST FOR HISTORIC PRESERVATION. Calling hours will be held Tuesday 4 p.m. at the WEIR-AREND FUNERAL HOME, 4221 N.
