MANKER Elinor M. Manker, age 87, of Canal Winchester, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, May 21, 2002 at her residence. Active member of David's United Church of Christ, Canal Winchester. Retired dietician with the Columbus School for Girls after 25 years of service. Graduate of Columbus North High School, Class of 1933 and The Ohio State University School of Home Economics in 1937. Preceded in death by husband Glenn Manker in 1954, parents Lloyd and Anna Frost and brother-in-law Seymore Bailey. MATHIAS Richard W. Mathias, 81, of Marion, former resident of Baltimore, OH, died Sunday, May 19, 2002 at his residence. He was a construction analyst for U.S. Government and a World War II U.S. Army Veteran. He is survived by his daughter, Connie Mathias of Marion, OH; son and daughter-in-law, Dick L. and Jane Mathias of Charlottesville, VA; 3 grandchildren; 1 sister; 4 brothers. He was preceded in death by his wife Ethel Mathias, 3 sisters and 3 brothers. Funeral service will be held Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. in the JOHNSON-SMITH FUNERAL HOME CHAPEL, Baltimore, OH. MERRINGER William Joseph "Joe" Merringer, age 43, of Pickerington, died Monday, May 20, 2002 at Mt. Carmel East Hospital. He was a member of Local #189 Plumbers and Pipefitters Union. Graduate of Reynoldsburg High School, attended Eastland Vocational School and had a passion and love for farming and raising his livestock. Joe is survived by his wife, Kelli; sons, Joe and Anthony Merringer, all of the home; mother, Mary and Dr. Daniel Weltner of New Albany; sister, Judy (Phil) Krauskopf; brother, David (Brandy) Merringer, all of Reynoldsburg; step-sisters, Susan (Phil) Brunton of Upper Arlington, Leslie Berry of Mt. Pleasant, S.C., Kristi (Jeremy) Redd of Alexandria, Oh.; step-brother, Daniel Weltner Jr. of New York City; grandmother, Edna Shirey of Pickerington; mother-in-law, Carolee Wolcott of Ellenton, Fla.; brohter and sisters-in-law, Kent (Karen) Wolcott of Goose Creek, S.C., Ila Mae King of Fla., Nancy (Gary) Gayner of Trenton, Mich.; several nieces, nephews and loving friends, Steve (Julie) Gastaldo and Norman (Jackie) Honecker. McCARTY James L. McCarty, age 72, of Pickerington, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, May 21, 2002. Jim was a retired teacher from Briggs High School (Columbus City Schools), where he coached girls basketball and track. A retired engineer from North American Aviation. He also served as pastor at Fairfield Community Church in Lancaster and was currently serving Fairview United Methodist Church in Pickerington. Jim was a 1948 graduate of Columbus West High School, received his B.S. degree from Ohio Oniversity and his Masters of Arts from The Ohio State University in Education. A lifetime member of the United Methodist Church, he served on the Trinity UMC Board as Pastor Parish Committee Chairman, as Newark District Lay leader, Jurisdictional Conference Member, World Conference Representative in Rio De Janeiro and other committees. He was active in New-ARK Emmaus Community and served as the Board's Asape Chairman. He was a dedicated supporter and volunteer for Lighthouse Counseling Services. He is survived by his loving wife, Millie; devoted daughters, Dr. Teri McCarty (Dr. John Martin), Julie Pitchford (Rick), Valerie Mussi (George); step-children, Steve Johnston (Cindy) and Jody Johnston Pawel (Steve). He will be greatly missed by his grandchildren, Amity Pitchford-Roebke, Cathern Pitchford, Chris and Amber Pawel, Lindsay McCrae; 2 great-grandchildren, Samuel Roebke and Raegan Pitchford. Jim was preceded in death by his grandson Justin Pitchford. NORMAN William J. Norman, age 42, Sunday, May 19, 2002 at the Grant Medical Center. A U.S. Army Veteran. An E.R. employee of Doctor's West Hospital. A member of Church of Christ of the Apostolic Faith. Survived by his wife, Theresa T. Norman; daughters, Shaniece Norman of Columbus, OH. and Nicole Norman of New York City, N.Y.; sons, William Norman, Jr. and Tyron of New York City, N.Y.; step-sons, Danny Lanzot and Bruce Taylor of Columbus, OH.; granddaughter, Ty Meshia Taylor of Columbus, OH.; parents, Rosalynn Norman and Robert Hall, both of New York City, N.Y.; sisters, Denise and Becky Norman of New York City, N.Y.; many other relatives and friends. PERKINS Judson Wesley Perkins Sr., passed away May 15, 2002 at age 87, from complications of Alzheimer's Disease. Born in Druug, India of American Missionary parents, Jud grew up in India. He was educated at Simpson College in Iowa and held a degree in accounting. In 1940 in La Grande, Oreg. he met and married Helen Ann Knapp and had 2 children Jud Jr. and Les. Early in his business career he moved to Columbus, Oh., where he founded Mid-Continent Chemical Co., the developers of contact adhesive for Formica and other uses. He sold this company to Minnesota Mining and Manufacturing in 1955. Following a move to La Jolla and then La Canada, Calif., Jud developed over 100 medical office buildings throughout Calif. In 1961, he married Jacqueline Akins. They spent 33 years together until her death in 1994. An avid sportsman, Jud flew his own plane, but his true passion was his yacht TIKI. Jud fished and cruised extensively on the Pacific Coast with TIKI. A devoted father, Jud enjoyed participating in his children's activities including Cheryl's Jobs Daughters and Jud Jr.'s baseball. His later years were spent in Hemet and Rancho Bernardo, Calif. He is survived by his brother, Cliff; first wife, Ann Upson; sons, Jud Jr. and Les; daughter, Cheryl; 5 grandchildren, Christine, Tanya, Julieanne, Gavin and Kendra. A memorial service will be held on May 24, 2002 at All Souls Episcopal Church, San Diego, Calif.

PIERCE Carrie Evelyn Badgette Pierce, 94, passed away Saturday May 18,2002 at Swan Point Care Ctr., Maumee, Oh. Retired nurse receiving a nursing certificate from in Youngstown, Oh. and attended the Franklin School of Nursing in Pittsburgh. Longtime member of the First AME Zion Church. Preceded in death by her parents Lafayette and Bessie Badgette, husband of 37 years Presiding Elder Rev. Dr. Isaiah B. Pierce Sr. and son Isaiah B. Pierce Jr. Survived by son, Dr. William D. Pierce of San Francisco, Ca.; daughter, Jane Garrett of Maumee, Oh.; sisters, Selma (Haven) Robinson and Ruth Pace of Cleveland; 6 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandson; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. POWELL Robert "Gene" Powell, 73, died May 14, 2002 at home in Hudson, Fla. Survived by daughters, Geneva R. Gibson, Eva C. (Roger) Wilder; sons, Gerald (Janice), Asa W. and Vaughn W. Powell; half-sister, Judy Marsh; half-brother, Don (Penny) Sager; 17 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren. Funeral service Wednesday, May 22, 2002 at 10:30 a.m. at BRADLEY FUNERAL HOME, Antigo, Wis. Visitation Tuesday 3:30-8 p.m. and Wednesday an hour prior to service at the funeral home. Burial in Elton cemetery, Elton, Wis.

REXROAD LuClair Rexroad, 92, of Lancaster, passed away Wednesday, May 22, 2002 at Kobacker House Riverside. She is survived by her daughters, Jeannette R. Scholl, Lancaster, Zelpha C. Rexroad, Columbus; grandchildren, DeeAnna Scholl, Dublin, Rex (Angie) Scholl; great-grandchildren, Kyle, Klayton and Kolby, all of Lancaster; nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Cecil Rexroad, parents, sister Marietta Bader, brothers Joseph, Harry, Paul and Lester Lamb. Funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday at HALTEMAN-FETT & DYER FUNERAL HOME, Lancaster with Pastor Andy Amos officiating. Burial will be at Floral Hills Memory Gardens. RICARD Kenneth B. Ricard, age 78, passed away Wednesday, May 22, 2002 at Doctors West Hospital. Retired from U.S. Post Office. U.S. Army Veteran of WW II and Korea. RIFFLE Richard "Dick" Riffle, age 61, of Columbus, Oh., died at home May 21 after a short, courageous battle with cancer. Employed with AmerisourceBergen Corporation. Veteran USAF Vietnam era. Preceded in death by his mother Cora Riffle, father Richard Riffle, brothers Paul, Dave and Melvin Riffle. Survived by loving wife of 40 years, Margie; daughter, Sheila of Andover, CT; brother, Gary (Bev) Riffle of Millersport; sisters, Geri (Rusty) Derenburger and Terri (Russ) Welch of Whitehall; sisters-in-law, Juanita Riffle, Candi (Butch) Moore, Jo Ann Willet, Pauline Rolett; brotherin-law, Donovan Gerrish; many nieces and nephews; also survived by many loving friends.
