RIESEN Dennis A. Riesen, of Marengo, Oh., died Saturday, June 1, 2002 at home of heart trouble. He was a stone and brick mason, loved playing the banjo, an avid sports fan, collector of sports memorabilia and Indian artifacts and a great gardener. Graduated from Westerville High School and Ohio Technical Institute with a BA in Electronical Engineering. Preceded in death by son Evan. Survived by sons, Matthew, Justin and Josh; grandsons, Justin and Josh; father, Wayne (Carol) Riesen of N.C.; mother, Jeanne Riesen of Lewis Center, Oh.; brothers, Douglas Riesen, Daniel Riesen; sisters, Durena Holobaugh, Renee Riesen and Kelly O'Brien; sister-in-law, Bonnie Riesen; brothers-in-law, Bill Holobaugh and Todd O'Brien; grandmother, Betty Loney. SABIAN Rev. Minnie Elizabeth Sabian, June 4, 2002. She was born in 1904 and was 98 years of age. Preceded in death by her loving husband Charles and sons Eugene of Columbus and Ernest of Lancaster. SANTO Rienhard (Bud) Santo, age 78, of Mt. Gilead, passed away Monday, June 3, 2002 at Marion General Hospital. Retired from Borden Milk Co. after 44 years. WW II Veteran and lifetime member of Young Budd Post 171 American Legion, where he was a Commander for 9 years. Member of Linden Lodge 637 F&AM and Marengo Church of Christ. Survived by wife, Cathy; children, Randy (Debra) Santo, Kenny (Sonia) Santo, Debra Fry and Mark (Ann) Santo; 10 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Ed, Bill, Gladys, Kay and Carol. Memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Friday at the Marengo Church of Christ, 3904 State Rt. 229, Marengo, Oh. Pastor Craig Mulpas officiating. SCARBERRY Georgia B. Lee Scarberry, age 41, Saturday at her residence. Survived by husband. William R. SHOOP Hal W. Shoop, died on June 2, 2002. Born in New Philadelphia, Oh., July 4, 1918. Predeceased by parents Harry H Shoop and Bernice G Shoop. Survived by wife. Dorothy M. Shoop of Cockeysville, Md.; 2 sons, Ronald David Shoop, his wife, Helen and grandchildren, Christopher A., Anna Elizabeth Shoop of Richmond, Calif.; Richard Allen Shoop, his wife, Susann of Timonium, Md. and 2 sons, Brian Shoop of Riverside, Md., wife, Carolyn and 2 great-grandchildren, Alyssa and Elena; David Shoop and friend, Heather Farrell of Reisterstown, Md. Married February 20, 1943; was a veteran of World War II. Retired from Harts Stores Inc. at age 62. Long term volunteer at Mt Carmel Medical Center, Columbus, Oh. SLAGLE Oliver E. Slagle, age 78, went to be home with the Lord on June 3, 2002 at Kobacker House. Retired from Yellow Freight Trucking after many years. Member of Teamsters Union Local #413. Member of First Apostolic Church of Dublin. Served as a Deputy Sheriff for several years. Army Medic during WW II. Preceded in death by parents Oliver and Sarah, son Emery Craig Slagle Sr., sister Rosemary Ballor. Survived by wife, Imogene; daughter, Rosemary Slagle; step-daughters, Jean (Richard) Collins and Charlene Carter; daughter-in-law, Crella Righter; 7 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren. Friends may call at the O.R. WOODYARD CO. CHAPEL, 255 E. State St., Thursday 5-8 p.m. Graveside service will be held Friday 1 p.m. at Glen Rest cemetery. Pastor Richard Collins officiating. SNYDER Samuel L. Snyder, age 84, of Canal Winchester, Tuesday, June 4, 2002, Valley View Nursing Home. Survived by wife, Lucille; daughter, Anne Blackwell, Canal Winchester. Arrangements being completed by the DWAYNE R. SPENCE FUNERAL HOME, Canal Winchester.

SNYDER William F. Snyder, Jr., age 79, of Columbus, died Sunday, June 2, 2002 at Mt. Carmel Medical Center. He was retierd from Buckeye Steel Casting Co. after 33 years of service and was a WW II U.S. Army Veteran, serving in the 37th Division, 166th Infantry. He was preceded in death by his beautiful, loving wife Vivian M. Snyder, parents William F. and Margaret (Thompson) Snyder, Sr. and a grandson William M. Snyder. His survivors include his children, Phyllis Cleland, Karen (Charles) Buhrts, Shelia Timmons, William (Monica) Snyder, Mark (Debbie) Snyder, Holly (Darrell) Ross, Jeff (Debbie) Snyder, Debbie (George) Leady, Kimberly (Larry) Dayton, Denise (Chris) Cunningham; 34 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren. His memberships include Northway Post #495 V.F.W. and Southway Post #144 American Legion. In keeping with the wishes of the family, there will be no visitation. A graveside service will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 8, 2002 at Green Lawn cemetery, 1000 Greenlawn Ave., Columbus. SPEAKMAN Maria Victoria "Vicki" Speakman, age 48, passed away Monday at home after a courageous 11 year battle with breast cancer. Loving wife, mother, sister, daughter and long time teacher. Vicki served 26 years as a Spanish teacher at Grandview Heights High School, and was a member of St. Christopher Church. Preceded in death by mother Rosa Perez, brothers Alberto Perez Jr. and Jorge Perez. Survived by husband, Michael Speakman; daughter, Katie Speakman; son, Travis Speakman; father, Alberto Perez; brothers, Orlando (Idania) Ruiz, Luis (DeeDee) Perez, Miguel Perez (Yianni Vitellas); maternal grandmother, Piedad Gomez; mother-in-law, Mildred Speakman; sister-in-law, Patricia (Mike) Budd; brother-in-law, Paul (Lori) Speakman; several loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. THOMPSON Theodore B. "Ted" Thompson, 70, of Newark, June 4, 2002, Good Samaritan Hospital. Born August 22, 1931 in Newark, Oh., son of the late Roger and Mary (Bryant) Thompson. Retired Machine Operator for Rockwell International. Served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. Preceded in death by 1 son, 1 son-in-law, 3 brothers and 1 sister. Survived by wife, Betty J. (Elliott) Thompson; children, Ned B. Thompson, Beverly Green, Tommy J. Thompson, Jackie Thompson-Bradley, Desi Thompson, Steven Thompson of Newark and Felicia Thompson; 11 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; 3 sisters; host of other relatives. THURMAN Marcellus W. Thurman, age 94, departed to be with the Lord on June 1, 2002 at VA Hospital in Dayton, Oh. A native of Middlesboro, Ky., his family moved to Columbus when he was 12 years old. Inducted into the United States Army in 1942, he served in Sicily, Naples, Foffia, Rome and Arno, where he was decorated with 3 Bronze Stars. Returned to Columbus after the service and resumed his career as a Real Estate Broker. United in Holy Matrimony to Frances Foster Thurman for 54 years. Marcellus lived his life as devoted Episcopalian. He provided encouragement and help to others whenever he was needed. He was a great humanitarian. Marcellus was preceded in death by his mother Cora Mae Jones Thurman, father Clem W. Thurman, son Jack Thurman. He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Frances Thurman; 3 daughters, Yvonne Thurman Smith, Cora Marcella Hart, Clemya Eve Matthews; grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, cousins, nieces, nephews, and a host of friends. TILLIS Richard Tillis, age 88, of Marysville, formerly of Columbus, died Tuesday, June 4, 2002 at his home. Retired machinist General Motors. Former member and deacon Cornerstone Free Will Baptist Church. Predeceased by wife Hazel. TOLSON Melvin C. Tolson, age 61, of Pataskala, died June 4, 2002, at home surrounded by his loving wife and children. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, and lived his life for his family. He was employed at DFAS for 14 years. A Vietnam veteran, he served in the U.S. Navy for 30 years. Graduate from Capitol University with a Bachelor of Arts degree. He enjoyed jogging, racquetball, and was an avid golfer. Melvin is survived by his loving wife of 39 years, Barbara A. Tolson; his children, Kimberly A. (Don) Richardson of Dublin, OH, Brian Tolson of Reynoldsburg, OH; grandchildren, Miranda, Erica, and Christopher; and brother, Talmadge (Myrtle) Tolson. His memory lives on in his friends and especially in his family. Family will receive friends 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday at SCHOEDINGER NORTHEAST CHAPEL, 1051 East Johnstown Road, Gahanna, OH., where the funeral service will be held on Friday, June 7 at 10 a.m. with private burial service following.
