HYATT Ruby Hyatt, age 87, of Eastmoor St., Mount Vernon, died at the Emergency Room of the Knox Community Hospital, June 9, 2002. She was born in Mount Vernon, December 17, 1914, the daughter of Paul C. and Ada (DeWitt) Woolison and had been a lifetime resident of Mount Vernon. She had been employed for 19 years by The Kroger Co. and was a member of the First Christian Church Disciples of Christ. She is survived by 2 daughters, Sue Carole Hyatt of Columbus and Marsha (Don) Kramer of Westerville; 2 grandchildren, Lance (Patty) Kramer and Jennifer Dawn Kramer; and a special companion, John Myers. In addition o her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years William H. Hyatt and 2 sisters Jane Chester and Gertrude Cox. Friends may call at the FLOWERS-SNYDER FUNERAL HOME, Mt. Vernon, on Wednesday from 12noon until the time of service at 2 p.m. Her Pastor Rev. Jamie Gump will officiate and burial will follow in Friendship cemetery. ISRAEL Leah Ritter Israel, passed away June 9, 2002. Preceded in death by husband Nicholas. Survived by daughter, Susan Israel (Dr. Mark) Eger; son, Stuart M. JACKSON David H. Jackson, 68, of Mt. Sterling, went to sleep in the Lord at 5:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 8, 2002, where he will be until the resurrection. Born on March 17, 1934 in Hatfield, Ky., he was the son of Wallace Jackson Sr. and Acle Sally (Varney) Burchett. David was first and foremost a servant of God. Our Heavenly Father was always there to guide and protect him. He was of Regular Baptist faith and felt all answers were provided to us through the Word of God. David loved everyone, especially his family and children. His advice and instruction for others was a true gift from God. David wanted everyone to know that if people would just give their whole heart to God, they would live forever in a glorious place. He was employed at General Motors in Columbus on June 11, 1953. He retired 41 years and 9 days later on July 1, 1994. David was an excellent provider for his family. Preceded in death by his father Wallace Jackson Sr.; his mother Acle Sally Burchett; his brother Wallace Jackson Jr.; stepfather Willie Burchett; and 11 half-brothers/sisters. Survived by his devoted wife, Bessie (White) Jackson, whom he married on September 7, 1952; son and daughter-in-law, Melvin (Pamala) Jackson of London; daughters and sons-in-law, Karen (Jerry) Lewis of South Charleston, Darla (Tony) Simon of Mt. Sterling, Rita (Tracey) Riffle of London, Sharon (Charlie) Nelson of Mt. Sterling, and Laura Beth (Phil) McNamara of London; grandchildren, Jeremy Burton, Jaime (Lee) Massie, Jaclyn Lewis, Jennifer (future grandson-in-law Joe Timmons), Angela, Christina, Anthony, Christopher and Ryan Simon; Jackson Riffle, Evan, Olivia and Avery Jackson; Victoria, Zachary, Andrew and Joshua Nelson; great-grandson, Dustin Massie; step-grandchildren, Anita (Jeff) Kitchens, Wesley Lewis, Cassandra and Charissa Riffle; brother, Ben (Kathleen) Jackson; sisters, Patsy (Keith) Davis; Elsie (Gene) Fitzsimmons; half-sisters, Judith Hayman; Linda Skiver; half-brother, Bill (Dorothy) Burchett; numerous nieces and nephews; countless caring and thoughtful friends and neighbors; many special children who knew him as "Grandpa." The family will receive friends at the PORTER FUNERAL HOME, Mt. Sterling, Oh., from 2 - 8 p.m. on Tuesday, June 11. A funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 12 at the funeral home. Rev. James Baldwin and Rev. Oscar Baldwin will be officiating along with honorary minister, Rev. Homer Brooks. Interment will follow at the Pleasant cemetery, Mt. Sterling. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in David's memory to the Loving Care Hospice, P.O. Box 445, London, Ohio 43140. Their compassion and service was greatly needed and appreciated during the last few months. Envelopes will also be available at the funeral home.

LEWIS Avachel LaFayette Lewis, age 76, passed away on June 6, 2002 at Grant Hospital. He retired from the postal service after 34 years. Survived by daughter, Yvonne Lewis of San Antonio, Tex.; step-daughter, Norma Newsome; and grandson, Dean Oliver Newsome of Buffalo, NY; special nephews, James (Ona) Lewis, and their children, Noah and Ruth of Columbus, and Norman E. King of Chicago, Il., Larry W. King of Denver, Co. and Christopher Cameron; special sister-in-law, Imogene L. King of Columbus; cousin, Anthony (Helen) Dibbrell of Columbus; niece, Susan Lewis and children, Ashley and Andre; and many other relatives and friends. MILLER John Robert Miller, age 93, died Monday June 3, 2002 at Wesley Ridge Assisted Living Center. Retired accounting clerk from Buckeye Steel Company. Veteran U.S. Army Air Corps WW II. He spent thousands of hours following his retirement as a volunteer from 1976-1998 at Doctor's North Hospital. Preceded in death by wife Thelma Stout Miller. MORRISON Wilbur H. Morrison, a former longtime resident of Upper Arlington, passed away Friday, June 7, 2002 at First Community Healthcare Center after a long struggle with Parkinson's disease. NETTING Faye B. Netting, age 87, Sunday, June 9, 2002, St. Ann's Hospital. 30 year member of Salvation Army Pontiac Corps and member of Jersey Baptist Church. Preceded in death by husband Max Netting, three sisters of whom one was her twin. NORMAN (HOLBROOK) Faye (Holbrook) Norman, age 79, of Columbus, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, June 8, 2002 at her home. She was born November 16, 1922 in Webbville, Ky. Retired from I.R.D. Mechanalysis. Preceded in death by parents William and Maude Holbrook, husband "Bob" Norman, brothers Homer Holbrook, Hobert Holbrook and twin Ray Holbrook, grandson Rusty Mobley. Survived by son and daughter-in-law, Doug (Joyce) Fannin of Orient, Oh.; grandchildren, Lisa Bandy of Pickerington, Oh., Angela (Ed) Reffitt of Columbus, Oh., Chad (Deej) Fannin of Grove City, Oh., and Tye Fannin of Columbus, Oh.; 11 great-grandchildren; sister, Pauline Patton of Hernando, Fla.; several nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and her loving cat, Jay Bird. NUTT Harold Lovet Nutt, Sr., age 65, of Columbus, on Saturday June 8, 2002 at Winchester Place Care Center. Former truck driver for Linworth and Fifth Avenue Lumber. Member of Full Gospel Sons of God Church. Preceded in death by wife Mary L. Nutt, brothers Jay Nutt and Eddie Russell. Survived by children, Harold Ray” Nutt, Jr., Tina Martin (Francisco Jimenez), Elvis (Karen) Nutt, Amy (Pablo) Cardenas; sisters, Margaret (Carl) Grashel, Dorothy Miller, Edith Sullivan, Joycelyn Monroe; brothers, Larry Nutt, Joe (Sharon) Nutt, Harley Nutt; 17 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren. ROSE Harvey Shonkwiler Rose, age 88, of Dublin, Oh., died June 6, 2002. Born July 23, 1913 near Mt. Sterling, Oh. Preceded in death by his wife of 54 years Florence M. (McCoy) Rose, parents Harvey M. and Sarah Shonkwiler Rose, sisters Mabel Cox, Mayme Price, Grace Long, Flora Rose, Doris Hunter, Osie Webb, Emily Randall, Inez Thomas and Myrtle Rose. Survived by son, David E. Rose of Dublin; daughter, Patricia K. Rose of Hilliard; granddaughter, Suzanne (Jim) Conrad of Elizabethton, Tenn.; great-grandsons, Daniel T. RYAN Mary Jo (Cline) Ryan, age 76, Sunday, June 9, 2002 in the Kobacker House Hospice at Riverside Hospital. Born September 23, 1925 in Columbus, Ohio to Robert R. and Julia A. Cline. Mrs. Ryan graduated from St. Aloysius Grade School, St. Joseph Academy High School and The Ohio State University (BA Ed). She was an elementary school teacher and cadet Principal in the Columbus Public Schools and later was Principal of St. Michael School in Worthington for 15 years. She also served as a member of the Advisory Board of St. Charles Preparatory School in Columbus. Mrs. Ryan leaves her husband of 46 years, Thomas J. Ryan; children, Jay (Teri) Ryan of Columbus, Julie Ryan (Tim) Tennyson of Birmingham, Ala., Joan Ryan (Regis) Hudock of Columbus, Jonathan (Gail) Ryan of Naperville, Ill.; grandchildren, Jason, Michael and Jimmy Ryan of Columbus and Jonathan Biles of Birmingham, Ala.; brother, Robert G. SWORDS Bruce Wheeler Swords, 38, 1982 graduate of Upper Arlington High School and The University of Tennessee-Knoxville, died peacefully May 30, 2002 in Memphis, Tenn. after a 2* year battle with cancer. Bruce leaves behind wife, Kathryn; children, Sara Marietta and John Wendell of Memphis; parents, Wendell and Christine Swords; brother, Randall (Marcia) Swords; nephew, Nathaniel Bruce Swords of Columbus; aunts, Deanna Bardy and Audrey Bardy of Grosse Pointe, Mich.; cousins, Gary (Kittie) Swords of Vandalia, Oh., Greg (Cindy) Swords, Joel (Joyce) Swords, Gina (Tommy) Seay of Springfield, Oh., Gail (Mike) Regnery of Ballwin, Mo., Amy (Mike) Lewis of Chicago, Ed (Cindy) Gilbreath of Cedar Grove, INd., Michelle Pettit of Santa Monica, Calif. and Christopher Pettit of Costa Rica; in-laws, Robert and Marietta Burleigh of Memphis and Doug and Ann Carpenter of Birmingham, Ala. and their extended families. TAYLOR Carol Lynn Taylor (Hartnett), died Friday, June 7, at Kobacker House after a lengthy battle with cancer. Carol was Test Kitchens Manager for the Borden Foods Innovation Center at Polaris, where she was instrumental in launching many successful new products, including ”It's Pasta Anytime”. Carol was a graduate of South Dakota State University. She had an outstanding career in food service at Purdue University, University of Texas, and Southern Methodist University. Carol was a caring individual who will be missed by her family and friends. During her long illness, she was a positive influence because of her tenacity and endurance. Throughout her illness, she was active in counseling other women with cancer. She is survived by her husband, Steven; two sons, Joshua and Nathan; mother, Adeline of Scotland, SD; sister, Karyn (Duane) Cox of Sioux Falls, SD; and brother Tom (Sheila) Hartnett of Elkhart, Ind. Mass of Christian Burial 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 11, 2002 at St. Peters Church, 6899 Smoky Row Rd., Columbus, Ohio. Family will receive friends Monday 4-8 p.m. at RUTHERFORD FUNERAL HOME AT POWELL, 450 West Olentangy Street (Powell Rd.), Powell, Ohio (792-1471).
