UNDERWOOD Ingaborg Helena Ursula Walters Underwood, born February 19, 1931 in East Germany, currently of Columbus, passed away, Thursday, June 6, 2002 at James Cancer Hospital at OSU. She spent her early teen years in Hitler's Germany and as a member of the Hitler youth which made socks for the soldiers. After the war she was in the Eastern sector and went to work in the coal mines. She escaped the Eastern sector before the Berlin Wall was built by going into the American sector of Berlin. After getting out, she went to work as a domestic for a German Doctor and his family in Frankfurt Am Mein, Germany. Ingaborg began to associate with the American soldiers stationed in Frankfurt. There she met Specialist John K. Underwood and eventually came to the U.S. to marry him after his tour in Vietnam. During their marriage, they did extensive traveling which included her long desire to see Hong Kong and Beijing, China. Her greatest contribution to life was her life as a wife and as a friend to many people (of all nationalities) through her journeys throughout her life. Arrangements entrusted to SCHOEDINGER NORTH CHAPEL, 5554 Karl Rd. Private family services will be held at a later date.

WALTERS Margaret Iola Walters, age 90, died peacefully Thursday, June 6, 2002 at Mayfair Village. Preceded in death by her husband of 59 years Wilbur E. Survived by son, William of New York City; daughter, Elizabeth Walker of Princess Anne, Md.; 4 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren. She was a long time member of Broad St. Presbyterian Church. WEAVER Louis "June" Weaver, 87, of Upper Sandusky, passed away June 8, 2002. Member of St. Peter Catholic Church and a former member of Christ The King Church, Cols. WW II U.S. Army veteran. Retired from D.C.S.C. in 1977. Burrows and John D. Tyler, grandparents Emma EsterJane and John H. Tyler. Survived by mother, Margretta M. ARNOLD LaVerna (Stonerock) Arnold, age 64, of Columbus, died Monday June 10, 2002 at her residence after a courageous battle with cancer. Retired from Victoria's Secret Catalogue Dept where she was a computer operator. Preceded in death by husband James P Arnold. Survived by mother, Corene Walter; children, Jeff and Barbara Arnold of Fla., Tim and Terry Arnold of NY., Sheryl and Kelly Elkins, Columbus, Sheri and Dennis Nordberg, NY., and John Arnold and friend, Brenda Leavey, both of Columbus; grandchildren, Michael Savage, John and Joey Elkins and Danielle (Pooky) Nordberg. BASH Cletus Ellsworth Bash, 84, of Orange Park, Fla., formerly of Columbus and Stoutsville, Oh., Monday, June 10, 2002 in Orange Park, Fla. Member St. Catharine Catholic Church. Past President of the Bexley Lions Club. Past President of the Columbus Landscaping Association. He was a Navy Veteran of WW II, where he was in the 34th SP Seebee Unit. He was the owner of Bash Landscaping. Survived by cousins, Pat (Dale) Brady and their children, Bill Brady and Mandy Smith of Orange Park, Fla., where he made his residence and Fritz (Barbie) Weidner of Canal Winchester, Oh. BECKER Stuart George Becker, age 86, of Columbus, died June 10, 2002 at Arlington Court Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He was born October 26, 1915 in Milwaukee, WI. He was a retired Appraiser with Cole-Layer-Trumble Co. He attended the University of Wisconsin. In retirement, he enjoyed painting, and had his watercolors exhibited several times in the Upper Arlington area. His wife of 62 years, Harriet, preceded him in death. He is survived by his children, William G. (Mariam) Becker, Las Vegas, NV, Kathryn M. Becker, Prescott, AZ, Faith H. (William) Robertson, Austin, TX, and Amy A. Williams, Upper Arlington; 10 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren. A private memorial service will be held at a later date. Arrangements by SCHOEDINGER NORTHWEST CHAPEL, 1740 Zollinger Road.

CALHOUN Lillian L. Ballantyne Calhoun, age 87, Sunday, Lutheran Village. Member Christ Lutheran Church. Preceded in death husband Jack Ballantyne, son William Collins and daughter Julie Reynolds. CAMPBELL Margaret Jandes Campbell, age 79, of Dublin, died Sunday, June 9, 2002 at Riverside Methodist Hospital. She was born on July 16, 1922 in Clinton County, Oh. and graduated from Rome Canaan High School in Stewart, Oh. She attended The Ohio State University. She was a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend who will be missed for her kind and gentle nature. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Christopher and Linda Campbell, Leawood, KS; daughter, Constant "Connie" Campbell, Lakewood, OH; grandsons, Matthew Ian Campbell and his wife, Michele and Adam Andrew Campbell, Des Moines, Iowa; sisters and brother-in-law, Madelon and Bertram Hanson, Muskegon, MI and Betty Becker, Warren, OH. Margaret was a tireless volunteer in hospitals in Cleveland and Columbus. She particularly liked working in the pediatric wards, where she helped bring joy to children. She, along with her husband, sponsored an on-going annual scholarship for graduates of her old high school to attend Ohio University. Margaret also joined her husband in leading cruises to 31 countries in the years following his retirement as editor of the Columbus Citizen-Journal. She was a supportive member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Columbus Art Museum, Franklin Park Conservatory, Grant Hospital Women's Board and Pilot Dogs. She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Richard Campbell in August, 2001. Friends may call 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at SCHOEDINGER NORTHWEST CHAPEL, 1740 Zollinger Road. CHAPMAN Ardis Ellis Chapman, age 92, of Columbus, died Sunday, June 9, 2002 at Riverside Methodist Hospital. Born December 21, 1909 in Belle Center, Oh. to the late Claude Renick and Estelle (Williams) Ellis. Ardis is preceded in death by her husband Edward Michael Chapman and son Richard Owen Chapman. She is survived by her children, Elaine (Philip) Clark of Worthington, Michael (Arvella) Chapman of Centerburg, Hayden (Norma) Chapman of Columbus, Stefen (Corrine) Chapman of Troy, Oh. and Bronwen (Wayne) Schuetz of New Braunfels, Tex.; 21 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, very good neighbors and friends. Ardis was a member of The Daughters of the American Revolution, Daughters of 1812, Society of First Families of Ohio and the Ohio Historical Society. Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 14, 2002 at RUTHERFORD-CORBIN FUNERAL HOME, 515 High St., Worthington, 614-885-4006. Interment Fairview cemetery, Belle Center, Oh. CONRAD Joseph A. Conrad, age 87, Saturday, June 8 2002, at Friendship Village of Columbus. Born July 20, 1914 in Chicago, Illinois to the late Xavier and Jeannette Czonstka. Graduated from Loyola University of Chicago with a Ph.B. in 1937 and a JD in 1940. Admitted to the Bar of the State of Illinois. A member of Pi Alpha Lambda fraternity. Retired from the Western Electric Co. (now Lucent Technogolies) in 1980 after 36 years of service. Former president of the Central Ohio Chapter of the Institude of Internal Auditors. A long time member of Our Lady of Peace Parish, where he was the founding president of the St. Vincent de Paul Society, an office he held for 26 years. Recently, a member of St. Elizabeth parish. Preceded in death by his loving wife of 57 years Genevieve in January, 2000 and his sisters, Regina (John) Klest and Mary Ann (Edmund) Zelman. He is survived by daughters, Sister Jeanne, O.P. of Columbus, Christine (Charles) Stoltz of Trenton, Mich., Catherine (William) Dotzauer of Worthington, Marie (Joseph) O'Toole of Lansdale, Pa.; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; brother, Norbert (June) of San Benito, Tex.; brother-in-law, Joseph (Lillian) Parks; sisters-in-law, Marian Jacobs, Roseann Gray, Veronica Paprocki, all of Chicago; many nieces, nephews and cousins. The family wishes to thank the staff of Friendship Village of Columbus and the FVC Health Center for their loving care and concern. D'COSTA Yvonne Teresa (Soares) D'Costa, retired school psychologist for the Columbus Public Schools, succumbed to her chronic heart and diabetes ailments on Sunday morning. She was the beloved wife of 43 years of Ayres D'Costa (a professor At The Ohio State University College of Education), mother of Rob (Melissa) D'Costa and mother aunt of Divya and Jitesh Soares. Yvonne was preceded in death by her parents Aloysius and Priscilla Soares and by her siblings Grace, Iris, Vincent, Ernest and Joseph Soares. Her loss is deeply mourned by her brothers, Aloysius and Maurice; sisters, Angela, Eileen and Barbara; sisters-in-law, Martha, Freda and Vilma Soares; brother-in-law Albert Fernandes; and many nephews, nieces, great-nephews and nieces and friends. Yvonne's career began as a school teacher at Our Lade of Perpetual Succour in Bombay, India. She also spent much of her time with Mother Theresa's order, helping the poor and orphaned children in Calcutta, India. She came to the United States with Ayres and in 1963 graduated with a Master's Degree in Education from Ohio University. She spent most of her working career with the Columbus Public Schools focusing on the educational needs of handicapped children. Yvonne was also a very active member of St. Anthony Catholic Church and a strong advocate for the disabled. She had a great appreciation for the arts and was a very talented pianist. She will be most remembered for her incredible sense of humor. Friends and family are invited to calling hours on Wednesday, June 12, 2002 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at SCHOEDINGER NORTH CHAPEL, 5554 Karl Rd., Columbus, Oh. 43229, where a wake service will be held at 8:30 p.m. that evening. FOWLS Wayne B. Fowls, 80, June 8, 2002 at Kobacker House. Veteran U.S. Navy, stationed in the Philippines during WW II. He spent most of his life as a resident of Grandview Heights and was an active member of Boulevard Presbyterian Church. Retired employee of Carson Pirie Scott.
