WHEELER Okie D. Wheeler, age 87, currently of Canal Winchester, formerly of Reynoldsburg, passed away Wednesday, June 12, 2002. He was a US Air Force WWII veteran, European Theatre, and retired from DCSC. He is preceded in death by his wife Marjorie and son Darwin. He is survived by his son, Alan (Joyce) Wheeler; daughter, Anona (Thomas Greene) Wheeler; grandchildren, Lon (Molly) Wheeler, Stephanie (Mark) Huertas, Thomas Wheeler, Meghan Sauls, and Cody Sauls; five great-grandchildren; sisters, Goldie Lyons-Young and Margie Lester; sister-in-law, Pauline Wheeler; and many other family and friends. His family will receive friends Thursday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the COTNER FUNERAL HOME, 7369 East Main Street, Reynoldsburg, where his service will be Friday at 11 a.m. Rev. Dave Leckrone officiating. YOUNG Donna Jean (Erwin) Young, age 47, of Columbus, born June 26, 1954, died Tuesday, June 11, 2002 at her residence after a long, courageous battle with breast cancer. Employed at JMI Manufacturing Co. Preceded in death by parents Harold and Christine Erwin, baby brother Paul, sister Diane Conley, sister-in-law Roxanne (Young) Williams and mother-in-law Mary Joy Young. Survived by husband, Paul "Eddie" Young Jr. of Columbus; sons, Paul "Bubby" Young III of Columbus, Charles "Chuckie" (Heather) of Londonderry, Ohio; daughter, Tammy Young and fiance Mike Francis of Grove City; stepson, Eddie Brackens of Key West, Fla.; like a stepson, Clint Brackens of Athens, Ohio; nephew that was like a son, Ron "R.B." Buzzard of Columbus; sisters, Debbie (Jerry) Haight of McConnellsville, Ohio and Dorothy Erwin and Darlene Blevins of Columbus; brothers, Frank, Phillip, Brad and Bill (Becky), all of Columbus; grandchildren, Paul, Matthew, Roxanne, Tangy, Cassie, Massie and little Charles Emmit Young Jr.; several nieces and nephews; lots of friends and church family. YOUNG Lawrence Young, age 78, of Columbus passed away Wed., June 12, 2002 at the Chillicothe VA Hospital. He was born Sept. 24, 1923 in Van Lear, KY, the son of the late Monroe & Hattie Young. Also preceded in death by brothers Herbert, Herschel, Clarence, Jay & James Young and sister Georgia Little. Lawrence was a retired welder, having worked at Columbia Gas for numerous years. He was a true craftsman; metal, woodworking or pencil and paper. No matter what Lawrence created it was beautiful and brought joy to all. He was also a member of the Briggs Rd. Baptist Church and a WWII U.S. Army/Air Force veteran, having served in Panama. Lawrence is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 54 years, Jackie; sons, Jerry Young (fiancée, Cathy Wisecup) and Mike (Teresa) Young, both of Columbus; grandchildren, Greg Young of Grove City, Jamie (Dwight) Robinson of Orient, and Justin & Kyle Young of Columbus; great grandchildren, David, Kelsie & Emily Robinson, all of Orient; brother-in-law, Carlos Little; special friend, Dick Gray; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. ADAMS Carolyn Janis Adams, age 63, of Baltimore, Ohio. ATKINSON Charles A. Atkinson, age 73, of Columbus, died Friday, June 14, 2002 at Doctors Hospital West. He retired from BP after 38 years of service. Preceded in death by his parents John H. and (Lillian) Ruth Atkinson and sister Jean D. Collins. His survivors include his wife, Blanche Atkinson; daughters: Linda (Donald) Wine, Christine Atkinson, Donna (Richard) Miller and Jennifer (Dave) Kayse, all of Columbus; sons: John (Therisa) Atkinson and Steve (Debi) Atkinson, all of Columbus; grandchildren: Denny, Melissa, Andrew, Jason, Joshua, Jessica, Cory, Chelsea, Ronnie, Joe and Cody. BALCER Ashtyn Agnes Margaret Balcer, age 10, died suddenly Wednesday, June 12, 2002, as a result of an auto accident in Arkansas. Born December 7, 1991 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She was a resident of Frisco, Texas. Recently finished fourth grade at Borchardt Elementary. She was an excellent student and school leader. Last year she won first place in the District's elementary oral Reading Competition, won the school's Science Fair and was a Student Council member. Ashtyn loved gardening and was always in the yard tending to it. She also loved to draw, play basketball in which her team won the title. She had a special bond with her big brother, Anthony, always in his shadow as a little girl, by his side as she got older, and now forever in his heart. The accident also claimed the lives of her parents Douglas Anthony Balcer and Colleen Marilyn (Cherry) Balcer. Survived by her brother, Anthony Douglas Balcer; maternal grandparents, Robert and Marilyn Cherry; paternal grandparents, Agnes and Enoch Balcer; many aunts, uncles, and cousins. BALCER Colleen Marilyn (Cherry) Balcer, age 34, died suddenly Wednesday, June 12, 2002, as a result of an auto accident in Arkansas. Born June 12, 1968. Graduate of Pickerington High School, Class of 1986. Resided in Frisco, Texas for the past 10 years. Employed by the Frisco School District. Founder and past president of the Grey Matters North Texas Brain Tumor Support Group. The group now has 72 members and has served over 200 people over the last four years. She was an active member of PTA and Room Parent Coordinator at Borchardt Elementary. She was loved by many and will be greatly missed. The accident also claimed the lives of her husband Douglas Anthony Balcer and her daughter Ashtyn Agnes Margaret Balcer. BALCER Douglas Anthony Balcer, age 38, died suddenly Wednesday, June 12, 2002, as a result of an auto accident in Arkansas. Born June 15, 1963 in Columbus, Ohio. Graduate of Reynoldsburg High School and the Ohio State University. Doug was blessed with a wonderful and strong wife Colleen and two talented and beautiful children, Anthony and Ashtyn. Doug loved sports and life, shared his time with the community of Frisco, Texas, where he resided with his family, enthusiastically coached sporting teams and was elected athletic coach of the year. He was an avid and insatiable Ohio State Buckeyes Fan. Go Bucks His cheers and hoots were heard and shared by many in Texas and the Buckeye state. He was respected and admired by colleagues at JC Penny where he worked for over 20 years. His smile was wide, stature tall, opinions valued and demeanor mild. He was a devout Catholic and family man. The accident also claimed the lives of his wife Colleen Marilyn (Cherry) Balcer and his daughter Ashtyn Agnes Margaret Balcer. She was preceded in death by her husband Bruce Raymond Davisson, brothers Vernon Herbert and Woodrow Herbert and sister Ilobelle Herbert Lemley. FORRESTER Catherine Ann Forrester, age 81, of Cleveland, Ga., Wednesday, June 12, 2002 at Northeast Georgia Medical Center, following an extended illness. Member of Shoal Creek Baptist Church. Survived by husband, James Forrester; daughters and sons-in-law, Noreen and Claude Elliott, Cleveland, Ga., Eileen Forrester and Claus Hameyer of Vt.; brother, Elwood Schall, Eston, Pa.; granddaughter, Sara Elliott of Cleveland, Ga. HAYSLER, O.P. Sr. Theresa Haysler (Sr. Mary Carl) died last night, June 12, 2002, in Mt. Carmel East Hospital. Sister was a native of Steubenville, the daughter of Thomas and Genolia (Rech), both deceased. She was also pre-deceased by her brothers Thomas and Alwin, and her sister Elizabeth (Dunn), all of Steubenville. Surviving are her brother, George and his wife, Mary of New Philadelphia, Ohio; and a number of devoted nieces and nephews in Steubenville and Columbus. Sister Theresa entered the novitiate of the Dominican Sisters in Columbus, Ohio in 1945 and pronounced her vows in 1947. She was an alumna of Catholic Central High School and later graduated from the College of St. Mary of the Springs. Thirty-two of her fifty-five years in ministry were spent in primary education. In the area she served in St. James the Less School (1952-1956 and 1969-1975), St. Peter's, Steubenville (1963-1964 and 1975-1979), and Holy Trinity, Somerset (1965-1969). When her health dictated a change in ministry she happily operated the gift shop in Mohun Health Care for 13 years, until in 1999 she had to be admitted as a resident of Mohun. The viewing will be on Monday, June 17 from 1:30 to 4:30 at Mohun Hall. The Liturgy will be celebrated Monday evening at 7 p.m. in the Motherhouse chapel, and a second Liturgy will be in Mohun Chapel on Tuesday morning at 10 a.m. This will be followed by burial in St. Mary of the Springs, 2320 Airport Drive, Columbus, OH 43219. HESS Andrew Huey Hess, age 44, of Chicago, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, June 12, 2002. He was a graduate of Columbus Academy and Kenyon College with a degree in English. Most recently employed as senior staff editor at McDougal-Littell/Houghton Mifflin, Evanston, IL; also worked as a textbook editor for Ligature and Proof Positive, Chicago as well as Addison Wesley, San Francisco; also as an archivist for Custom Medical Stock Photo, Chicago. Andy had an avid interest in anthropology, flinting and bird watching. Survived by parents, Phil and Sally Hess of New Albany; sister, Nancy (Denny) Hummer of Danville, PA; brothers, Dave (Daphne) Hess of New Albany, Joe Hess of Columbus; nephew and niece, Eric and Kylie Hess of New Albany. JACOBS Lela B. Jacobs, age 82, of Pickerington formerly of Columbus, died Saturday, June 15, 2002, at Echo Manor Extended Care Center in Pickerington. She is survived by her children, Mike (June) Jacobs, Darlene (Jerry) Meinert, Andy (Sherry) Jacobs, all of Pickerington, and Kay (Russell) Dodson, of Pomeroy, Ohio; 13 grandchildren.
