MARTIN Sharon Lynne Martin, age 64, passed peacefully following a valiant battle with inflammatory breast cancer (IBC). She was preceded in death by her parents Wilbur and Mary Yorde. Sharon will be deeply missed by her husband of 46 years, Ernest E. Martin; children, Joseph Wilbur, Martin, Susan D. Martin, Alisa A. Martin-Scott and Lynne M. Martin; daughter-in-law, Barbara Layne; sons-in-law, Justin Scott and William Minkler; grandsons, Brock Minnear, Caleb Scott and Andrew Layne; brother and sister-in-law, Will and Marianne Yorde; close friends, Robert Griffith, David and Beth Kiser and the Quality Data family and a host of dear family and friends. The family would like to express their eternal gratitude for the knowledge, compassion and respect that Dr. Thomas Sweeney and his staff shared with our mother and family. NEWMAN Kenneth L. Newman, age 68, August 4, 2002 at Grant Medical Center. Employed at United Cerebral Palsy for 15 years. Preceded in death by parents Lester and Sarah Newman and brother Dayle Newman. Survived by step-sister, Joanne Cooper of Zanesville, Oh.; niece, Lavonne; cousin, Esther Stafford; special family, Barbara Lester and children, Vickyie, Valerie, Vondell and Preston; and many other family and friends. NORTHRUP Margine Rowena Northrup, 87, passed away Saturday, August 3, in Los Angeles, Calif. She was born in Washington Court House, Oh., February 9, 1915 to John and Christena Weyer, the youngest of nine children, and resided in north Columbus for 60 years. Following graduation from Ostrander High School in 1934, she entered Capital Beauty School, becoming a beautician and teacher. Preceded in death by her husband Therwyn Northrup. She is survived by their daughter and son-in-law, Chris Kay and Bernard Roswig of Culver City, Calif.; many nieces and nephews. Funeral service 10 a.m. Saturday, August 10, 2002 at RUTHERFORD FUNERAL HOME, 2383 North High Street (at Maynard Ave.), Columbus, where friends may call from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday. PACK Phyllis Daphene Pack, age 72, Monday, August 5, 2002. Attended Parsons Avenue Baptist Church. Preceded in death by husband Arnold and brother Jack Williams. PEREL Charlie Perel, age 88, passed away peacefully Monday, August 5, 2002 in Cape Town, South Africa. A loss of a true gentleman of integrity. It was an honor and a privilege to have you as a father. PHELPS Amelia M. Phelps, nee Kaltenecker, passed from this earth on August 7, 2002. Born December 26, 1906, in Parkersburg, WV, to John and Susanne Kaltenecker, she lived a rich and full life. She was a member of Nu Sigma Nu, St. Catharine Church Choir, Mt. Carmel Women's Auxiliary and the Catholic Golden Age Club. Amelia is preceded in death by her loving husband of 63 years Darwin Keller Phelps, sisters Clara Ruble and Estella Spaetti and brothers John and Christy Kaltenecker. Surviving her are daughters, Mary Sue Baxter (L. Kenneth), Rebecca Kimberly (Bob Stabile) and Sara Phelps (Sauer). She dearly loved her grandchildren, Christine Baxter Ansel, Jenifer Baxter (Joe) Montenaro, Barbara Baxter (Bob) Stoll, Nathan, Katherine, Elizabeth Sauer; and great-grandchildren Joe, Aaron, Ben, Andrew, Emilie, Meghann, Molly, Matt and Mark. Mom was blessed to have devoted caregivers, Vivian Estell and Cora Christian, who lovingly and faithfully cared for her. Mom has given all of us strength and wonderful memories. A special thanks to Fr. Vincent McKiernan of the St. Thomas More Newman Center and Hospice nurses and volunteers. RICE Georgia M. Rice, age 80, of Columbus, Wednesday, August 7, 2002 at The Convalarium at Indian Run. Preceded in death by husband Billy J. Rice and daughter Christine M. Rice and survived by daughter, Billie J. (Howard) Willson, Dublin; son, Harry (Kay) Rice, Galena, OH; 9 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; sisters, Delores McGee, Johnstown, OH and Patty (Bud) Darst; special friend, Judy Dehman. RIFFLE Larry A. Riffle, age 58, passed away early in the morning on August 7, 2002 at Mt. Carmel West Hospital in Columbus, Oh. He passed peacefully in the comfort of many beloved family and friends. Larry served in the Army Reserves and was retired ironworker of Local #172. He was a member of Humboldt Masonic Lodge #476 and Moose Lodge #206. Larry was preceded in daeth by brother Gene, sisters Bernice, Betty, Mildred, Lillian and Violet. He is survived by daughter, Tracy; former wife and friend, Phyllis; sister, Juanita; brother, Harry; and many loving nieces and nephews. ROSS Iris L. Ross, age 78, of Lake Worth, passed away Tuesday, August 6, 2002 in Boca Raton, Fla. Iris was born and raised in Columbus and was a graduate of South High School in 1942. Iris is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Donald W. Ross; sons, Donald (Martha) Ross Jr. of Fla. and Roger (Lynn) Ross of Calif.; 3 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; 1 sister, Shirleyanne Potter. A funeral service will take place on Monday, August 12 at 11 a.m. at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in Lake Worth, Fla. with Rev. William Hamilton officiating. SHAMAN Reva Goldberg Shaman, age 91, after a long fight with Alzheimer's disease, died peacefully at Four Corners Health Center in Durango, Colo. on Sunday, August 4, 2002. Preceded in death by husband Sol D. Shaman of Columbus, Oh. Survived by daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Marvin Dworkin of Durango, Colo.; grandchildren, Stacey and William Bie of Cincinnati, Oh., Davidah and Victor Groves of Denver, Colo. and Stephen Samuels of San Diego, Calif.; great-grandchildren, Mitchel and Reed Bie of Cincinnati, Oh. Reva and her husband, Sol Shaman, owned Topper Supply Company on South High Street for 30 years. Reva was confirmed from Temple Israel and remained, until her illness, a devoted and active member of the Sisterhood, Sunday School, and Temple Foundation. Reva was very proud of her civic affiliations and life memberships. Some of the more dearest to her were: B'nai Brith International, Hillel Foundation, Hadassah, Council of Jewish Women, Jewish War Veterans, Wexner Heritage Village, Jewish Historical Society, and the Jewish Community Center. She also supported community organizations such as The Ohio State University, City of Hope, Kidney Foundation, The Columbus Symphony, and the Cancer Society. Whenever Reva received a plea for help, she contributed gladly either by volunteering her services or financial gifts. Reva touched the lives of everyone she met and her legacy of gifts will remain to benefit the people of Columbus for many years. Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, August 8, 2002 at SCHOEDINGER EAST CHAPEL, 5360 E. Livingston Ave., where family will receive friends from 1-2 p.m. Interment will be at Green Lawn cemetery. Shiva observed Thursday evening at 7 p.m. at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Alan Katz. The family wishes memorials to be sent to the Temple Israel Reva Shaman Cultural Fund, The Sol Shaman Cancer Fund of OSU, Alzheimer Society, or the organization of your choice.

SWIFT Walter A. Swift, age 67, Thursday, August 1, 2002 at his residence. A member of Bethel Baptist Missionary Church. United States Air Force Veteran. Retired employee of CAMACO. A member of Of Franklin Lodge #203, Olentangy Lodge #521 and Antlered Guard Dept. Faithful member of IBPOE of Elks of the World for over 50 years. Preceded in death by parents, Adolphus Swift and Carrie Harris. Survived by his wife, Anne P. Swift; loving companion, Anita Leatherbury; brother, Adolphus (Sheila) Swift, Jr. of Calif.; sister, Betty Boron of Denver, CO.; stepson, Anthony Siero; daughters, Betty (Anthony Williamson) and Loeleatae Swift; 3 step-children; 15 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; many other relatives and friends. ALTIERE Robert W. Altiere, age 76, of Gahanna, died Tuesday, August 13, 2002 at the Dayton Veteran's Hospital. Veteran WW II, U.S. Army. Former Airport shuttle driver for APCOA. Preceded in death by grandsons Antonio Altiere and Nicholas Ward. Survived by wife of 52 years, Eileen Altiere; sons, Robert L. (Peggy) Altiere of Williamsburg VA and Thomas W. BUTTS Gertrude "Peggy" Butts, 95, of Laurelville, died August 13, 2002 at her residence. She was born March 20, 1907 in Hocking County, the daughter of Reuben and Beatrice (Watkins) Ebert. She was a member of the Pleasant Ridge C.C.C.U. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Floyd Butts, sons Eugene and Jack Lenegar, daughter Evelyn Lenegar, brothers Ralph, Lee, Rudolph and Lester Ebert and sisters Bess Thompson, Pearl Scott, Doris Harris and Irene Mattox. She is survived by her son, Bob (Louise) Butts of Laurelville; daughters, Peggy (Therrell) VanCuren of Circleville and Connie (Claude) Weaver of S. Bloomingville; step-daughter, Eloise (Bob) Bolanger of Ft. Myers, Fla.; grandchildren, Teresa (Mike) Smith, Mike and Tom Butts, Caressa (Andy) Walters, Scott (Jennifer) VanCuren and Matthew (Tonya) VanCuren, all of Laurelville, Cindy (Steve) Circle of Gallipolis, Rex (Teresa) Hardman of Circleville and Kerry (Sherrie) Hardman of Mesa, Ariz.; 10 great-grandchildren; 4 step-grandchildren, Charlyn, Johnny, Bob and Scott; 6 step-great-grandchildren. Peggy will be missed at her special seat at Pleasant Ridge Church but Heaven will be enriched with her presence. She was an inspiration to everyone and was known as Grandma Butts to many. She started at the age of 70, walking 5 miles in the church's annual walkathon with sponsers from foreign countries and many states participating for 25 years. Memorials to Pleasant Ridge C.C.C.U. CLAPPER Wilbur Clark Clapper, 90, of Orient, passed away suddenly on Monday, August 12, 2002 at his home. He was born December 17, 1911 in Orient, the son of the late Samuel and Euva Clapper. Also preceded in death by his brothers Edgar, Rueben, Bill, Lewis, Ralph, Glenn and Herman, sister Alvira and good friend Ray Harris. Wilbur was retired from the Orient State Institute after 20 years of dedicated service as a carpenter. He was also a proud WW II U.S. Army veteran having served in North Africa and Italy. Wilbur is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 59 years, Mildred; sons, Terry of Orient, Robert (Paula) of Cincinnati and Samuel (Trudy) of Grove City; grandson, Stephen of Orient; 8 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; aunt, Florence Clapper; and many nieces and nephews. Calling hours 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at the SCHOEDINGER NORRIS CHAPEL, 3920 Broadway, Grove City. Graveside service 10 a.m. Thursday, August 15, 2002 at Pleasant cemetery, Mt. Sterling with Rev. CLARK Jon A. Clark, age 71, longtime resident of Indianapolis, died Sunday, August 11, 2002. Survived by wife, Grace C. CONLEY Dorothy L. Conley, age 71, of Upper Arlington, died Sunday, August 11, 2002 at Kobacker House after a brief illness. She was born August 28, 1930 in Pittsburgh, PA the daughter of Andrew and Leona (Wolford) Schorn. She was employed as a Church Secretary at Northwest Christian Church for 20 years. She was formerly active with the Upper Arlington Swim and Racquet Club and also served on the Women's Juvenile Service Board. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Conley, in 2000. Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Pamela Conley of Upper Arlington. A Memorial Service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, August 18, 2002 at SCHOEDINGER NORTHWEST CHAPEL, 1740 Zollinger Road, where the family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 1-2 p.m. Rev. Dave Loynachan will officiate. A private entombment will be held later at Union cemetery Mausoleum. If desired, contributions may be made to Hospice at Riverside/Grant, 3535 Olentangy River Rd., Columbus, OH 43214 in her memory.
