MENDOZA Josephine E. Mendoza, age 75, of Pataskala, passed away peacefully August 12, 2002 in the loving presence of her 5 children. Josephine "Jody" was preceded in death by her husband Louis in 1996. Jody was a dedicated mother and had countless friends. She will be greatly missed by all who have known her, including many relatives with whom she spent a large part of her life in St. Louis, Mo. Josephine managed her life with drive and determination, never letting obstacles keep her from living the way she wanted. She was a working mother, when the term did not really exist, and still provided the nurturing and loving care needed to manage a household of seven. Coming from a poor family in Wellsville, Mo., Josephine never complained of the lack of material possessions, but proud of her own family's resolve to maintain their well being during the Depression. She was also fascinated with her ancestry, which included Native American heritage. Josephine cooked "real" Mexican Food and loved classical piano music. She had a passion for reading, and although she never traveled extensively, she was herself very knowledgeable and experienced foreign shores more vividly than those who have been there. Her love for life never ended, as evident in her brief, but aggressive battle against cancer....ultimately, the one obstacle she could not overcome. Survived by children, Linda (Nawal) Pandey, Worthington, Howard (Annie) Mendoza, Ft. Wayne, Ind., Toni (Harvey) Mikesell, McMurray, Pa., Steve (Maggie) Mendoza, Lancaster and Nick (Phyllis) Mendoza, Gahanna; grandchildren, Christa (Art) Collazo, Patrick, Nichole, Meagan, Ryan, Anita, Angie and Matthew; 1 great-granddaughter. Josephine also leaves behind her canine friend of many years, "Tippy" who was a devoted companion and dearly loved. Friends may visit Thursday 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the DWAYNE R. SPENCE FUNERAL HOME, 550 Hill Road North (St. Rt. #256), Pickerington, where funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Friday with the Rev. Fr. Jim Ogurchock officiating.
