SHEPHARD Rita Gee Shephard, 93, of New Bern, N.C., died Friday, August 9, 2002 at Craven Regional Medical Center. Mrs. Shephard graduated from West High School and Business School in Columbus, Oh. She worked for a Civil Engineering frim in Columbus, Oh. She was also active in Masters Swimming for 25 years and was named All American for several years. Survived by daughter, Susan Husson and husband, Bob of New Bern, N.C.; 2 grandchildren, Erin and Daniel Husson; brother, Joseph Gee of Grove City, Oh.; niece, Barbara Zimmerman and husband, Dick of Grove City, Oh.; great-niece, Holly Blanken and husband, Gary of Grove City, Oh.; 2 great-great-nieces, Madison and Skyler. A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Sunday, September 1, 2002 at Burkhart Chapel of First Community Church, Grandview, Oh. SMAUS Rosemary Smaus went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, August 25, 2002 at Riverside Hospital. Preceded in death by her husband Wallace and son Craig. Rosemary was a buyer and also in sales for Cole of Columbus before she retired several years ago. She leaves grandchildren and many faithful friends. Funeral service will be held at the Upper Arlington Lutheran Church, 2300 Lytham Rd. on Wednesday at 11 a.m., where friends may call 1 hour prior to the service. Entombment in the memorial gardens at Union cemetery. In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made to the "Rosemary V. Smaus Memorial Fund" at the Upper Arlington Lutheran Church.

SUMMERS Sherita D. Summers, age 59 of Pataskala, passed away August 24, 2002. Sherita was a devoted member of Jersey Baptist Church and sang in the church choir. Preceded in death by her parents. Survived by husband, Jerry; children, Chris Ann (Dennis) Brooks, Lane (Gini) and Tanja Parks; grandchildren, Marty, Chad, Chip, Chelsea, Robert, Elizabeth, Stuart, Stephen, Ashleigh, Laura, Nicholas and Jacob; great grandchildren, Tiffany and Infinity; special mom, Mary Allen; special daughter, Erica (Jim) Keegan; brother, Gary (Shirley) Allen; sister, Nancy (Paul) Edwards; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and special friends. Funeral services 11 a.m., Wednesday, August 28, 2002 at Jersey Baptist Church, 13260 Morse Rd., Pataskala. Friends may gather 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., Tuesday at SCHOEDINGER EAST CHAPEL, 5360 E. TURNER Orval R. Turner, age 80, entered into eternal rest Sunday, August 25, 2002 at Doctors Hospital West. He gave his life to Christ in 1961 and was a member of the Westside Free Will Baptist Church where he served as Sunday School Superintendent and Deacon. Retired from General Motors after 33 years and was a member of U.A.W. Local #969. He was a Staff Sgt. in the Army and served in Europe during WW II receiving the Purple Heart and Bronze Star. Preceded in death by parents Everett and Mary, brothers Ray, Fredrick and Donald, wife of 50 years Alice, son William Ralph, son-in-law Larry Blackburn, daughter Mary Lou. Survived by brother, Charles (Hazel); daughters, Phyllis Blackburn and Saundra; daughter-in-law, Vivian Ruth; former son-in-law, Burl Hood; granddaughters, Leanne, Allison (Michael) Pancake, Liberty (Tim) Gugel, Christina and Carmen Choulat; great-grandchildren, Dillon Turner, Kayla and Raven Choulat, Tiara Gugel and RayVell Lindsey. He will also be missed by his church family, co-workers at the New Lincoln Lodge, buddies at Jelly Doughnut and other family and friends. "He will dwell in the house of the Lord forever." WALTERS Dr. David W. Walters, age 74, of Westerville, formerly of Calif., died Sunday, August 25, 2002 at the home of his daughter. He was a retired pediatric dentist practicing in Calif. and he was a U.S. Air Force Veteran. Dr. Walters was preceded in death by his wife Betty Walters. His survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Ann L. and Blair Beals of Westerville; 3 grandchildren, Brittany, Chris and Brady Beals, all of Westerville. A memorial service will be held in Calif. at a later date. Arrangements completed by the RUTHERFORD-CORBIN FUNERAL HOME, WORTHINGTON CHAPEL, 515 High St., Worthington, Oh., 614-885-4006.

WHITESIDE Ethel T. Whiteside, age 94, passed away August 23, 2002. Funeral service Thursday 2 p.m. in the chapel of DIEHL-WHITTAKER FUNERAL SERVICE, 720 E. Long St. Mrs. Whiteside will lie in state Thursday after 10 a.m. at the mortuary, with the family receiving friends 1 p.m. until start of service.

YARBROUGH Lois K. Yarbrough, 78, of Chillicothe, died August 22, 2002 at her residence, unexpectedly. She was born June 26, 1924 in Columbus, Oh. to the late Robert and Neta Spring Keener. She was married February 19, 1945 to Jesse Yarbrough, who died February 7, 2001. Surviving are son and daughter-in-law, Edwin R. and Barbara Yarbrough of Ashburn, Va.; 4 grandchildren, Kyla, Steven, Scott and B.J. Yarbrough; brothers and sisters-in-law, Bob and Dorothy Keener of Columbus, Oh., Don and Arlene Keener of Raleigh, N.C.; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother Edwin Keener. Lois was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, in which she had been active as an Elder, Sunday School Teacher and scout leader. She was a graduate of Grandview High School in Columbus, where she had participated in tennis and basketball. She had volunteered at several Chillicothe schools, was a member of the Brewer Heights Garden Club and early in her life, she had been secretary at the Chillicothe Veterans Affairs Medical Center. Memorial Service will be held 11 a.m. Friday, August 30, 2002 in the WARE FUNERAL HOME, Chillicothe with Rev. James W. Grove officiating. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that, memorial contributions be made to the American Heart Association, Ohio Office, P.O. Box 361320, Columbus, Oh. 43236-1320.

AGIN John R. Agin, age 79, of Clearwater, Fla. and formerly of Westerville, Monday, August 19, 2002. Memorial Service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, September 7, 2002 at MORELAND FUNERAL HOME, 55 E. Schrock Rd., Westerville, Oh. Rev. Tere Banks officiating. Private interment.

ALBERTY John K. Alberty, of Upper Arlington, formerly of Powell, died Tuesday, September 3, 2002 at Riverside Methodist Hospital following an extended illness. John was a founding partner of Alberty & Associates Law Firm in Columbus. He was a graduate of Upper Arlington High School, The Ohio State University with honors, where he was a member of Delta Upsilon Fraternity, and the University of Florida. He was preceded in death by his father J.W. "Jay" Alberty, in 2000. He is survived by his mother, Fran Alberty of Upper Arlington; sister, Allison Alberty of Chicago, IL; uncle, Frank (Patricia) Alvarez of St. Louis, MO; aunts, Donna Jean (Robert) Umbstaetter of Columbus, Oh., Patricia (Phil) Rinkoski of Kansas City, MO and Stella Chapin and her family; dear friends, Mary Lapitsky, Tillie and Nelson Lancione; cousins; other relatives and friends. John tried cases in the U.S. Supreme Court, Florida Supreme Court and United States Court of Appeals. He was a member of the Columbus Bar Association, the Columbus Ski Club, and enjoyed boating on Lake Erie. AYERS Houston G. Ayers, age 78, Saturday, August 31, 2002. BAILEY Helen Bailey, age 93, of Columbus, died Monday, September 2, 2002 at Villa Angela. Preceded in death by husband Marvin R Bailey. A loving homemaker who was known for her sewing and quilting. She is survived by her son, Michael Bailey; daughter-in-law, Mary H. Bailey; granddaughter, Mandy Bailey; nephews, Donald and Richard Wheeler. There are no calling hours. A Memorial service will be held Friday, September 6, 2002 at 4 p.m. at St John's Episcopal Church, Worthington. Rev. Art Hadley officiating. BEAVERS Evelyn P. Beavers, 87, formerly of Scioto Twp, daughter of Ira and Ona Liston died Tuesday, September 3, 2002 in Monterey Care Center. Preceded in death by husband John "Dub" Beavers, son Gene and granddaughter Patricia Dunham. Member of Commercial Point United Methodist Church, 50 year member of the Grange, Daughters of America, Ladies Auxiliary, WCTU, Survived by children, Ray (Donna) Beavers, Orient, Paul Beavers, Ashville, Yvonne (Leonard) Frederick, Norfolk, VA. and Donna (Howard) Kunder, IL.; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; sister, Doris Shepard, Ft. Lauderdale, FL.; niece, Leah Ann Clement. BIRD Robert A. Bird, age 67, passed away Sunday, September 1, 2002 at Mt. Carmel Medical Center. U.S. Navy Veteran. Preceded in death by son Dennis. Survived by daughter, Annetta (Ken) Bays; sons, Terry Bird and Steven (Jessica) Bird; grandchildren, Trent, Lisa and Chris Bays, Michael and Michakla Bird; nieces and nephews. BOGGS Helen V. Boggs, 73, of Columbus, passed away Wednesday, September 4, 2002 at Manor Care. She is preceded in death by her husband Roscoe, parents Henry and Clarice Perkins. She is survived by sons, Terry (Linda) Boggs and Jerry (Hazel) Boggs; 4 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren; sister, Beulah (Kenneth) Hixon. Private family interment. CARLO Shirlee A. Carlo, age 69, of Lakeview, Oh. and Venice, Fla., 25 year resident of Columbus, went to be with the Lord on Monday, September 2, 2002. Preceded in death by parents Lee and Anna Frye. Dedicated and loving wife of Paul P. Carlo. Cherished mother of son, James F. Carlo of Fenton, Mich.; daughters, Cheri Paris-Davis of Columbus, Jayme Edwards of Hubert, N.C. and Leeann Hatfield of Gahanna, Oh.; beloved grandmother to 6 grandchildren, Nicole, Peyton and Spencer Carlo, Jenna and Landon Edwards and Adam Hatfield. CHAPPELEAR Cread C. Chappelear, passed away Tuesday, September 3, 2002. Graduate of North High School and The Ohio State University. WW II Navy Veteran, past commander of the Franklin Post #1 American Legion, Am Le Voiture #15, 40 & 8, Amvets Post #89. Active in various Scottish bagpipe units, Mt. Vernon Fife & Drum Corps and the Old North Hi Club. Cread enjoyed a career as a technical writer working for North American Aviation, Aerojet, McDonnell Douglas and other defense contractors throughout the United States. Mr. Chappelear returned to Columbus and retired from Franklin County Municipal Clerk of Courts. Preceded in death by parents Thornton White and Ruhama Williams Chappelear, brothers Thornton W. Jr. and James David Chappelear, granddaughter Brady Chappelear. Survived by brother, Capt. Rossiter J. Chappelear; sons, Walter (Constance), Cread (Vanessa); step-son, Phillip (Rachel) Sexton; grandchildren, Iris, Tara and Cread; nephews, Stephen E. DOUGHERTY Harley G. "Dink" Dougherty, of Green Cove Springs, Fla., formerly of Dublin, Oh., September 3, 2002. Preceded in death by parents Homer and Clara (Eger), brother Glenn and grandson Timothy Kaiser. Survived by wife, Nancy (Vance); children, Pat (Gary) Evans, Regena Porter, Karen Sullivan, Scott (Lisa) Dougherty; grandchildren, Susan Shirk, Christopher Sandham, Kevin Kaiser, Jay Boden, Stacey Boden, Christinie Dougherty, Sarah Dougherty and Marina Dougherty; great-grandchildren, Nicholas Vance, Ryan Shirk, Kaya Leisch, Jay Boden Jr., Trevor Boden and Cassandra Kaiser. Born in Dublin, August 3, 1918, Dink moved to Fla. last year. In the 1960's he was an active member of the Franklin County Democratic Party, serving several terms as Committeeman in Washington Twp. He was a fixture at the Franklin County Court House and is well-remembered for his years of service in the Recorder's Office. During his retirement, Dink spent many years helping neighbors and friends while working at Trustworthy Hardware. Kids and their sports were his passions. Dink was a founding member of the Dublin Quarterback Club and the Dublin Youth Athletic Association. He coached baseball and football with the DYA for about 10 years, and was awarded a lifetime pass to Dublin Schools' athletic events in recognition of his many years of dedication. A memorial service is planned at the Dublin Christian Church, 2900 Martin Rd. on Saturday, September 7 at 10 a.m. The Rev. Jeff Stone officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Green Cove Springs, Florida Fire Department, your local youth athletic association or the Leukemia Society of America. Family will receive friends after the service at VFW Post 3268, Plain City.

DRISCOLL David L. Driscoll, age 72, passed away Monday, September 2, 2002. Born December 16, 1929 in Columbus. Veteran of the Korean War, retired from Columbia Gas after 43 years of service. Member of St. Patrick's Church, Columbus. Active member of the Shamrock Club of Columbus for over 40 years, past president, 1976. Former member of Knights of Columbus. Former member of Shamrock Club Pipes & Drums. Preceded in death by brother Patrick. Survived by children, Elizabeth (Paul) Newsome, Katie Capozella, Patty McIntyre, Sean (Monika), Brendan, Terry. Proud grandfather to Patrick, Jacob and Molly Newsome, Aaron and Noah Capozella, Tadhg McIntyre, Dalton and Klarise Driscoll, Megan Driscoll and Bobby Large.
