MARRAH Dr. John A. Marrah, 71, died Sunday, August 25, 2002 after an extended illness. He was born June 19, 1931 in Paint Township, Madison County, Oh. to Patrick Ambrose Marrah and Mary Elizabeth Faudree Marrah, and was educated in the London, Oh. public schools. He went on to obtain a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration from The Ohio State University, 1959, a Masters degree in Educational Research at the University of Dayton, 1969, and a Doctorate of Education (Ed.d.) from the University of Cincinnati in 1970. Mr. Marrah served in the United States Navy aboard the USS Taconic, AGC-17, from 1951-1954, during the Korean War. Among other honors, he received the National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and Navy Occupation Service Medal, and an Honorable Discharge. Mr. Marrah was employed by ATT/Bell Telephone Laboratories, Holmdel, N.J., for nearly 20 years. At the time of his retirement in 1989, he served as Director, Technical Briefing, and had designed, developed and managed the Technical Briefing Center. He began his employment at Bell Labs in 1970 as a Member of Technical Staff, responsible for designing and implementing new technical documentation standards for stored program control systems. He authored numerous publications. Prior to 1970, he resided in Columbus, Oh., were he was employed by the State of Ohio Department of Education and Department of Health. Mr. Marrah was Mayor of Little Silver, N.J. from 1980 to 1984, and resided there with his family from 1971 to 1992. He was deeply involved in the lives of his family and his community. He served two terms on the Little Silver Borough Council, served as Council President, was Police Commissioner, and served on numerous boards, committees and commissions in the Borough and Monmouth County. Mr. Marrah chaired the "Vote Yes" Committee which worked to pass the successful referendum to construct the present day Red Bank Regional High School. He continued his support of the school, including serving on the Superintendents Advisory Council during the 1980's, as active band parent, and as the half-time show announcer at the football games at R.B.R.H.S. for 7 years. John A. Marrah is survived by his wife, Gloria Davies-Marrah of Brick, N.J.; his son, John Andrew Marrah Jr. and daughter-in-law, Robin Marrah of Delray Beach, Fla.; his daughter, Cynthia Marrah Jurrius and son-in-law, Douglas Jurrius of Easton, Md.; grandchildren, Ryan, Scott and Kevin Jurrius, John and Patrick Marrah, Michael and Kristen Kelly; step-children, Robert Davies, Gary Davies, Cindy Johann and their families; his former wife, Priscilla Martin Marrah; his brothers, William P. Marrah of Taylor, S.C., Richard L. Marrah and Robert Marrah of Columbus, Oh.; sister, Florence Swyers of London, Oh. and their families. He was predeceased by his brother James Marrah and sister Marianna Flynn. Mr. Marrah was known for his love for his community and family, his dedication to his profession, and his belief in the importance of edcuation. In lieu of flowers, a contribution may be made to the Marrah Educational Trust, a fund established for the purpose of furthering the scholarship of students at London High School, Madison County, Oh., where Mr. Marrah grew up. Marrah will be held at St. John's Episcopal Church, Little Silver, N.J. on Friday, September 6 at 5 p.m. THOMPSON MEMORIAL HOME, Red Bank, N.J., is in charge of arrangements.

MARZLUF Helen L. Marzluf, age 87, Tuesday, September 3, 2002 at Riverside Hospital. Member of Riverside United Methodist Church and National Association of Railway Business Women. 50 year member of Lorraine Chapter # 1 O.E.S. Survived by nephew, Jim (Lynne) Murdock; niece, Barbara (Don) Roberts; and their families. Funeral service 11 a.m. Saturday, September 7 at SCHOEDINGER HILLTOP CHAPEL, 3030 W. NICHOLS John H. "Jack" Nichols, age 63, of Pickerington, OH, formerly of Toledo, passed away Monday, September 2, 2002 at his residence. He had retired from Owens-Illinois Corp. in Toledo, with 30 years of service. He then worked for the Anchor Glass Company for 3 years. Following a brief period of retirement, he returned to the work force alongside his daughter to found and establish 1st C.O.R.P. Services. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers George Lee and Richard. He loved his family dearly, and will be missed by his wife, Shirley; children, Scott Nichols of Altus, OK, Todd and Judy Nichols of Louisville, KY, Lynn Nichols and Caroline Huddleston of Columbus; grandchildren, Kaitlyn and Kathryn and their mother, Jeanne Nichols, Lindsey, Kerstie and Jocelyn; sister, Patsy (Paul) Gross of Kensington, MD; nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. PATTERSON Russell M. Patterson, age 81, formerly of Grove City, died August 26, 2002 at Bay Pine Veteran Hospital, Bay Pine, Fla. Veteran of the U.S. Air Force. Former owner of Pat's Linoleum and Pat's Gun Repair in Grove City. An avid wood craftsman. Preceded in death by wife Nina (Himpill) Patterson, sons Timothy and Terry, parents Alfred and Mary (Mitchell) Patterson, step-father George Mitchell and brother Earl Patterson. Survived by son, Robert Patterson; sisters, Evelyn L. Cook of Grove City and Helen W. (Charles) Mulholand of Palmetto, Fla.; brother, Dale (Maryann) Patterson of Livingston, Tex. He will be missed by his loved ones and friends. Cremation and services were performed in Bay Pine, Fla.

PENIX Robert Nelson Penix, baby boy, went to be with the Lord on angel's wings on Monday, September 2, 2002 at OSU Medical Center, Columbus. SCHERRER Terrence "Terry" Martin Scherrer, age 77, passed away at home on Monday, September 2, 2002. US Navy Veteran of Korean Conflict. Trained at Merchant Marine Academy, Kings Point, NH. Served as Deck Officer (Third Mate) aboard various Merchant ships in European, Indian Oceans, and Pacific War Zones. Served aboard USS Washburn AK108 in Pacific Korean Conflict. Attended Muskingum College, The Ohio State University and graduated from Franklin Law School in 1958. Admitted to Ohio Bar in 1958. Preceded in death by parents, first wife Betty, son Mark, brother, half-brother and granddaughter. Survived by wife, Erma; sisters, Rita McCormick, Margaret Ann Sager; brother, Tom (Ruth) Scherrer; step-daughter, Sharon (Brent) Snyder; step-sons, Michael (Kelley) Griesdorn and Timothy (Meg) Griesdorn; grandchildren, Kara, Katie and Kyle Snyder, Seth, Nicolas, Melody, Timothy and Anne Griesdorn; many nieces and nephews. STEWART Clara Lou Stewart, 71, of Ashville, passed away Tuesday, September 3, 2002 at her residence. Born July 17, 1931 in Ashville, Oh. to the late Watson and Crissie Baum Peters. Member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, where she was an organist for many years. Retired as a Secretary from the Citizen's Bank in Ashville. Graduated from Ashville Harrison High School in 1949. She was a founding member of Ashville Community Players. Instrumental in the start of the Gazebo Gatherings. Served on the Board of Ashville Senior Housing Authority, Recipient of the Ashville Women's Civic Club 2001 Distinguished Service Award. Clara Lou's positive attitude was an inspiration to all who knew her. She was a life long resident of Ashville. Preceded in death by her parents, brothers Francis J. Peters and Chet Peters. TELLINGS Jan Paul Edward "Eddie" Tellings, age 77, Monday, September 2, 2002. Born in Yogya, Indonesia. A Dutch survivor of the "Ngawi" Japanese prisoner of war camp, during WW II. Moved to the Netherlands in 1946 and immigrated to the U.S. in 1957 with his wife and infant son and settled in Columbus. Educated in Europe and in the U.S., he was employed as a chemist and retired from the Quaker Oats Company in 1990. A devoted husband, father and grandfather; he is survived by Hennie, his wife of 47 years; son, Ed (Connie) of Reynoldsburg; daughters, Irene (Terry) Frost of Cincinnati and Alice Minic; grandchildren, Emily, Lauren, Kelsey, Brooke, Kaetha, Shannon, Steven and Taylor; sisters, Pauline (Frank) Kertesz, Henrietta Lapre'; brother, Ferdinand (Ruth) Tellings; nieces and nephews. Family will receive friends Saturday from 10-11 a.m. at St. Ladislas Church, 277 Reeb Ave. A Memorial Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday. TREFZ (JAMIESON) Martha J. Trefz, age 84, passed away at her home, Monday, September 2, 2002. She was born in Mercer County, Oh., the daughter of the late William and Lilly (McAfee) Jamieson. She was preceded in death by 3 sisters and 3 brothers. Martha leaves to deeply mourn her, her husband of 46 years, Russ; her daughter, Alison of Gahanna; her sister, Ruth Jamieson of Columbus; sisters-in-law, Ethel Jamieson of Van Wert and Roma Williams of Xenia; and many nieces and nephews. A special thank you to Dr. Robert Zaino who cared for her for many years. Martha retired from General Motors where she was the executive secretary to the plant manager. She was involved in General Motors Retirees and Charity Belles. Martha also enjoyed many years as the local Avon Lady. She was an active member of Mifflin Presbyterian Church since 1962, where she, along with her husband faithfully served Meals on Wheels and the youth Logo's program. She was awarded an honorary life membership to Presbyterian Women for her years of dedication and service to the church's Women's Gathering. Martha was a gracious lady who was blessed with a warm smile, a gentle spirit and loving heart, which she joyfully shared with all who had the privilege to have known her. The family will receive friends 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the SCHOEDINGER NORTHEAST CHAPEL, 1051 East Johnstown Road, Gahanna. TRINTER Carolyn Rose Trinter, 15, died at her home Sunday, September 1, 2002 after coping courageously with her illness. Carolyn was a member of St. Anthony Church and a member of the youth group at Church of the Good Shepherd. An honor roll student throughout her school years, she was a sophomore at Northland High School. Carolyn was a proud member of the 'Pride of the Vikings' Marching Band, with whom she marched in the 2002 Sugar Bowl in New Orleans. Carolyn was the first recipient of the Most Inspirational Marcher Award, which is to be presented annually by the Northland Instrumental Music Department. Carolyn was also active in the Drama Department at Northland. In October 1999, Carolyn was a guest of The Ohio State University Marching Band and had the honor of directing the band in Across the Field both in St. John Arena and in Ohio Stadium. Carolyn was selected by Children's Hospital to receive the 'Special Courage Award' for the 2001 Carl Lewis Track & Field Camp and Festival. Olympic track and field legend, Carl Lewis presented this award to Carolyn. She was also a volunteer with Children's Hospital. Carolyn loved music, school, her family and friends. She had a positive attitude, which allowed her to make the most of every day and live her life to the fullest. She is survived by her devoted and loving family, parents David and Diane Trinter and brother Eric; grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, her three best friends, Courtney, Heather and Stephanie, and many other supportive friends. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m., Friday, September 6, 2002 at St. Anthony Catholic Church, 1300 Urban Drive, Father Mark Ghiloni, Celebrant. Family will receive friends at Schoedinger North Chapel 5554 Karl Road 6-8 p.m. Wednesday and 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. on Thursday. A prayer service will be held at 8:30 p.m. on Thursday evening where family and friends are asked to share their special memories of Carolyn.
