ROWLEY Col. John W. "Jack" Rowley of Columbus Friday, August 9, 2002 at his home. Attended Michigan State University. Served in the USAF for 30 distinguished years during which he was the recipient of the Distinguished Flying Cross and numerous other medals and awards. Commanded TUSLOG Detachment 30 in Ankara, Turkey, and was the Base Commander at Lockbourne AFB. After retirement, he was Assistant Treasurer Manager of Ohio Military Federal Credit Union at Lockbourne AFB. Longtime member of 1st Church of Christ Scientist, serving both as 1st & 2nd Reader. He was a journal listed Christian Science Practitioner. He loved his faith. Jack was first and foremost a beloved husband and father. He will be greatly missed by his family. Preceding Jack in death was his father Max Rowley and mother Frances Rowley, sister Dewees Gasparik. Survived by wife, Martha Rowley of Columbus; three children, Kim Simmerman and husband Wray, John Rowley Jr. and wife Cynthia and Steven Rowley, all of Reynoldsburg; 8 grandchildren, Michelle Dennis and husband Trent of Groveport, OH, Tracey Shick of Columbus, Matthew Rowley and Amy Rowley, both of Columbus, Shannon Rowley, Christin Rowley, Sean and Sheridan Rowley, all of Reynoldsburg; 4 great- grandchildren, Brandon and Brittany Dennis, of Groveport, Tristan Rowley, of Reynoldsburg and Kevin Thomas Jr., of Columbus; nieces, nephews, brother-in-law and numerous friends. Friends may call Tuesday 5-8 p.m. and Wednesday 1/2 hour prior to service, EVANS FUNERAL HOME, 4171 E. Livingston Ave., where service will be Wednesday 10 a.m. Pastor Darin Pratt and Eloise Wilking officiating. Interment Glen Rest cemetery.

RUSSO Donato "Danny" Russo, age 51, of Cardington, Oh., died Sunday, August 11, 2002 at his residence. He was employed with GE Superabrasives and was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and the U.S. Army. He is preceded in death by his parents Dominick and Serafina (DiGeronimo) Russo, daughter Kimiko Russo and his faithful companion Sampson. His survivors include his loving wife, Toyoko Russo of the residence; sons, Dominick (Lisa) Russo of Columbus, Chris (Trisha) Keels of Columbus and Brian (Mary Jacobs) Cantrell of Fla.; daughters, Angela Russo (Chad Roush) of Columbus and Stephanie Cantrell (Reese Jones) of Columbus; grandchildren, Isabella Russo and Alaina Roush, both of Columbus; sister, Joellen (Jerry) Vitiello of N.J.; brothers, Chris (Denise), Dominick (Valerie) and Vinny (Judy) Russo, all of N.J.; many, many, many aunts, uncles, cousins, in-laws, nieces, nephews and friends and his faithful companion, Niko at home. Donato was an avid sportsman who loved to play golf and bowl. He also enjoyed billiards, country dancing, traveling, watching Ohio State sports and NASCAR racing. The family will welcome friends at the RUTHERFORD-CORBIN FUNERAL HOME, WORTHINGTON CHAPEL, 515 High St., Worthington on Thursday, August 15, 2002 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. A graveside service will be held 11:30 a.m. Friday, August 16, 2002 at Union cemetery. SAULS Kathleen M. Sauls, age 75, Thursday, Riverside Methodist Hospital. Survived by husband Jack Sauls, sons and daughters-in-law, Richard Sauls and Julie Catagnus, Kenneth and Esther Sauls; grandchildren Captains Todd and Suzanne Sauls, Barbara and Anthony Humphries; sister-in-law Zelma (Roy) Privett; also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by parents and brother Kenneth Humphries. Memorial service, Wednesday 1:00 p.m. at Chapel of Forest Lawn cemetery. Rev. Dean Bohl officiating. SHEELY Tiffin T. Sheely, 90, of Friendship Village, Dublin, formerly of Chillicothe, died 7:10 a.m. Saturday, August 10, 2002 in Friendship Village, following an extended illness. She was born September 7, 1911 in Ross County to the late Roy and Alice Kerr Tootle. She was married August 28, 1939 to R. Aubrey Sheely, who survives. Also surviving are daughter and son-in-law, Joyce S. and Harry Hamilton of Warren, Oh.; son and daughter-in-law, Richard L. and Deborah F. Sheely of Upper Arlington; 7 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; 2 nieces and a nephew. She was predeceased by sisters Martha Acton and Mary Ingraham. Mrs. Sheely was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Chillicothe and was a Scout Den Mother and a member of its Presbymates and Old Rock Guild. She had been a member of the Century Club, the Clarksburg Garden Club, the Clarksburg Grange and Ross County Farm Bureau. Funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Friday in the WARE FUNERAL HOME, Chillicothe, with Rev. Glen Hiles officiating. Burial will follow in Browns Chapel cemetery. Friends may call at Ware's from 6-8 p.m. Thursday. In lieu of flowers, family requests that, memorial contributions be made to the First Presbyterian Church on Mead Drive, Chillicothe, Oh. 45601.

STEVENS On Friday, August 9, 2002, Pastor Leola Stevens was called home to be with the Lord. Pastor Stevens is preceded in death by Oscar Gwyn (paternal father), her parents Ed and Pauline Justice (Hendricks) and her brother Harry Justice. She leaves behind a loving husband, Curtis A. Stevens Sr.; Johnnie Mae Baylor (devoted friend); 6 children, Paula Justice, Rhonda (Samuel) Hoyte, Kimberly (Renauld) Ray, Timothy (Judy) Justice, Keith (Cherie) Justice and Curtis Stevens Jr.; 4 sisters and 3 brothers, Carrie Baylor, Mae Johnson, Shirley (William) Jackson, Elenora Justice, Charles Justice, Larry (Sylvia) Justice, Ballard (Lisa) Justice; 17 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, uncles, aunts and many friends. Funeral service Thursday 11 a.m. at Church of Christ of the Apostolic Faith, 1200 Brentnell Ave., where the family will receive friends 10 a.m. until start of service. Interment Union cemetery. SWEAZEY Christopher Guy Sweazey, age 25, of Columbus, died Friday August 9, 2002. Employed with the Dedden Window Washing Co. and Veteran U.S. Army. Survived by daughter, Emily Rose; son, Christopher John; and wife, Katie; parents, Guy and Marie Sweazey of Jacksonville, Fla; sister, Jeanne Sweazey of Jacksonville; brother, Kenneth (Janine) White of Brockton, MA.; grandparents, Mary and Charles Micciche of Middleton, MA.; aunt, Jeanne (Robert) Diorio of Revere, MA.; nephews, Kenny and Kevin White; cousins, Rachel and Andrea Diorio; and many close friends. Family will receive friends Tuesday 5-7 p.m. at the SCHOEDINGER WORTHINGTON CHAPEL, 6699 N. High St. (1/2 mile south of I 270), where funeral service will be held at 7 p.m. Additional services including Military honors will be held in the Boston, MA. area at a later date.

THOMAS Gale M. Thomas, 75, died Sunday, August 11, 2002 at Columbus Alzheimer's Care Center. A retired Photographer with Columbia Gas Co. A veteran having served with the U.S. Army. He was a member of the Mill Run Church of the Nazarene where he was the Sunday School Superintendent for 10 years. He was baptized at the Northland Christian Life Church. He is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Donna, whom he married on March 19, 1965; children, Jeanne (Kurt) Nowicki, Robert (Peg) Lowry and Michael Lowry; grandchildren, Nathan Thomas and Mary-Paige Nowicki, Katie, Meri and Jessica Lowry; sister, Mary Hartman; nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, August 14, 2002 at SCHOEDINGER NORTH CHAPEL, 5554 Karl Road, where family will receive friends from 12Noon until the time of service. Interment to follow at Union cemetery.

VEROCK Rosella Verock, 75, of Columbus, Oh. and formerly of Marblehead, Oh., died August 11, 2002 in Marblehead, Oh. She was born April 5, 1927, the daughter of John and Anna (Pazin) Verock, who married in 1901 at Kelly's Island, Oh., where they lived for 3 years before moving to Marblehead, Oh. While growing up in Marblehead, she attended local schools and enjoyed girl scouting and school activities, music and reading were a love of her life. She was baptized at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Marblehead, Oh. in a long white gown, which was also worn by her 10 siblings at their baptism and is still in the family. Her sponsors where her sister and brother-in-law the late Veronica and Joseph Eliyas. She attended and graduated with honors from Bowling Green State University earning 2 degrees in Social Work and Political Science. Soon she was accepted by the Toledo Catholic Charities as a Society Worker where she remained for 8 years. She decided to attend the University of Michigan where she received her masters degree as a psychiatric social worker. She also attended Smith College for Women. She then chose to work with emotionally challenged children at Ypsilanti, Mich. under a Psychiatrist who found her very capable as her master's dissertation was in this field. The lives of many children have been blessed through Rosella's compassionate work. She later became the director of Belmont School in Louisville, Ky., where the needs of over 40 emotionally challenge children were met. She was on the staff of the University of Kentucky School of Social Work. Students from the university served under her direction and were evaluated by her. Later she decided to work with children in Appalachia where she remained for 3 years. She then returned to Columbus, Oh. and entered into administration work as Administrator of Central Ohio Geriatric Hospital. Soon geriatric patients were few in numbers and young people on drug dependency entered the hospital. While at the hospital a Chicago architect commended Rosella for suggestions regarding the design of the new addition of the hospital in the form of a tree truck with many branches representing the numerous forms of services the hospital would offer. After retiring, she remained in Columbus enjoying her condominium and traveling to local areas along with Italy, Alaska and Florida in the winter. Surviving are her brother, Joseph Verock of Toledo, Oh.; sister, Helen Lynch of Marblehead, Oh.; and many loving nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Peter and Andrew Verock, sister Veronica Eliyas and 1 brother and 4 sisters in early childhood. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, August 14, 2002 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Marblehead, Oh. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at NEIDECKER-LeVECK & CROSSER FUNERAL HOME, Peninsula Chapel, Lakeside-Marblehead, Oh. Additional visitation will be held Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service at the church. Burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Stein Hospice, Heartbeat of Ottawa Co., CASA (Children's Court Appointed Special Advocacy of Lucas County) or the donor's choice.

WALLAR Archie P. "Arch" Wallar, age 89, of Lancaster, August 10, 2002. Born October 29, 1912 to the late Oscar P. Wallar, Ethel R. Wallar Jones and Burt L. Jones. Preceded in death by his wife of 65 years Alberta "Bertie", July 9, 2002. Arch retired from Federal Glass after 42 years of service and was a Life Member of the American Flint Glass Worker's Union. He is survived by daughter and son, Pamela Jean and Doug Duncan, Lancaster; grandchildren, Debra and Brian Grote, Canal Winchester, Mark and Rachel Duncan, Wilmington, Karen and Bob Genton, Lancaster; great-grandchildren, Elizabeth and Jenifer Grote, Aaron Genton; brother and sister-in-law, Sam and Charlotte Wallar, Columbus; nephew, Paul Wallar (deceased); niece, Barb Casto, Columbus. Friends may visit Tuesday 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the DWAYNE R. SPENCE FUNERAL HOME, 650 W. Waterloo St., Canal Winchester. Graveside service will be Wednesday 11 a.m. at Sunset cemetery, Galloway, Ohio. WELLMAN Charles E. Wellman, age 67, of Columbus, August 10, 2002 at Mt. Carmel West Medical Center. Preceded in death by parents Herbert and Dorothy Wellman, brothers Ishmael and Blinn and sister Annette Reiss. Survived by sisters, Cheryl (George) Miller, Beverly Crowley, Mildred Southall and Fayette (Norman) Shepherd; brothers, Ronnie (Sharon), Michael, Larry and Jimmy Wellman; special niece, Rhonda Amburgey; and many other nieces and nephews. WILLIAMS Hartwell Williams, age 84, departed this earth on August 8, 2002. Born the son of Richard Williams and Nanny Mallory Williams on May 19, 1918 in Sylvia, Tenn. Six brothers and four sisters preceded him in death. A member of Worldwide Church of God. Retired from the Borden Co. He served his country from 1943-1945 in Rome-Arno, Southern France, Rhineland Central Europe. Awarded the Good Conduct Medal, Service Medal with 5 Bronze Stars and 1 Bronze Arrowhead Victory Medal. Survived by his wife of 33 years, Christeel; 1 sister, Gladys Waters; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. Funeral service Wednesday 12noon at Worldwide Church of God, (located in the Christian Family Fellowship church building, 2505 Hyde Road, Grove City, Oh.), where the family will receive friends 11 a.m. until start of service. ALTIERE Robert W. Altiere, age 76, of Gahanna, died Tuesday, August 13, 2002 at the Dayton Veteran's Hospital. Veteran WW II, U.S. Army. Former Airport shuttle driver for APCOA. Preceded in death by grandsons Antonio Altiere and Nicholas Ward. Survived by wife of 52 years, Eileen Altiere; sons, Robert L. (Peggy) Altiere of Williamsburg VA and Thomas W. ARMSTRONG Don W. Armstrong, age 87, of Dublin, died Tuesday, August 13, 2002 at Riverside Methodist Hospital after a brief illness. Don was originally from Zanesville, where he was a member of Grace Methodist Church and sang in the choir for many years. Don graduated from Ohio Wesleyan University in Delaware in 1937 and was a member of the Sigma Chi fraternity. Don served his country in World War II in the Pacific campaign as a communications officer. He left the Navy a Lieutenant Senior Grade. After the war, Don returned to Zanesville to build his business, American Business Forms, and to help raise his three daughters. Don was a 32nd degree Mason, member of Aladdin Temple Shrine, and a Rotarian. Don was preceded in death by his parents David and Blanche Armstrong, first wife Ruth Loebell Armstrong, sister Frances Geiger, sister-in-law Betty Collins and brothers-in-law Fred Geiger and George Skinner. He is survived by his wife, Hennrietta "Hank" Armstrong of Dublin; sister, Betty Skinner of Zanesville; first cousin, Peg Taylor of Zanesville; brother-in-law, L. Maurice Loebell of Westerville; daughters, Ann (Bruce) Littlegreen of Houma, LA, Pam (Jay) Collins of Paducah, KY, and Nancy (Eric) Graves of Newbury Park, CA. He also leaves grandchildren, Curtis, Jill (Robert), Cary (Brandi), Jane (Peter), Beth, Keith and Drew; great-granddaughters, Elisabeth, Lillian and Farrah; step-daughters, Jo (Mike) Albert and Nancy (Ken) Lazar; step-grandchildren, Michael (Laura), Sara and Matthew; brothers-in-law, Jack (Deena) Hurt of Wooster, OH and George (Helen) Hurt of Indianapolis, IN; and numerous nieces and nephews. ASHFORD Lorenzo D. Ashford Jr., age 20, passed away August 11, 2002. Funeral service Friday 2 p.m. in the Chapel of DIEHL-WHITTAKER FUNERAL SERVICE, 720 E. BOSO Pauline Boso, age 83, Tuesday, August 13, 2002 at home. Retired from General Motors after 37 years of service. Member of U.A.W. Preceded in death by parents George and Iva Boso and sister Dorothy Mehen. Survived by brother, Donald Boso; sister, Mary Kathleen Cordle; and several nieces and nephews.
