JEWETT Edna Ruth "Penny" Jewett, age 85, of Columbus, Sunday, August 18, 2002 at University Medical Center. She is preceded in death by her husband of 54 years James H. Jewett, son John Thomas Jewett and sisters Olive White and Donna Harris. She is survived by her loving family: son, James M. "Mike" Jewett of Columbus; daughter, Denise Ann (Ray) Aiani; grandchildren, Katie Ann and Kristy Nicole Aiani, all of Simi Valley, Calif.; brothers, James Nelson (Norma) Short and Gary Ray Short; sisters, Marceline Kerns and Hazel Zimmerman. She was a long time member of North United Methodist Church. 1935 graduate of Proctorville High School where she was the Valedictorian of her class and a member of the championship basketball team. Funeral service 11:30 a.m. Monday, August 26, 2002 at RUTHERFORD-CORBIN FUNERAL HOME, WORTHINGTON CHAPEL, 515 High St., Worthington, Oh. Pastor Bill Cannode officiating. KELLENBERGER Velma F. Kellenberger, age 92, of Westerville, Monday, August 19, 2002 at home. Registered Nurse. Member of Church of the Messiah United Methodist, Westerville Senior Center and 20 year volunteer of Life Care Alliance. Preceded in death by husband George C. and daughter Regina L. Kellenberger. Survived by daughters, Mary Louise Kellenberger of Gahanna and Carol (Robert) Hartwell of Richmond, KY.; granddaughter, Kimberle (Chris) Prunty of Orlando, Fla.; brother, Ralph Sturtz of Sycamore, Oh.; good friend, Marlene Carnahan of Westerville. Retired from U.S. Postal Service and retired Master Sergeant from Ohio National Guard. Preceded in death by wife Ruth, parents Leonard and Eva Lust, 5 brothers Lauren, Carroll, Chester, Herbert and Gerald, 2 sisters Gladys and Harriet. MAHONEY Gale Mahoney, 77, of Port Charlotte, Fla., died Tuesday, August 20, 2002, at Charlotte Harbor Healthcare in Port Charlotte. Born March 30, 1925 in Columbus, Oh., he moved to Port Charlotte 18 years ago from there. He was a firefighter for 32 years in Columbus. Mr. Mahoney was a member of Local 12 Stagehands Union, the Masonic Lodge and a Shriner, all in Columbus, and member of the Kings Island Golf Club in Port Charlotte. He was also a U.S. Navy veteran of WW II. Survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Lillian Mahoney; and two sons, Dennis (Julie) Mahoney of Bondurant, Iowa and Timothy (Mary) Mahoney of Oak Harbor, Ohio. He is predeceased by one son Richard Mahoney. A Memorial Service will be held Friday, August 23, 2002 at 10 a.m. at ROBERSON FUNERAL HOME PORT CHARLOTTE CHAPEL, 941-629-3141. MELICK Paula A. Melick, age 49, of Canal Winchester, died August 20, 2002 at Grant Medical Center. Born October 22, 1952 in Newark, Oh., daughter of Helen (Ashcraft) and the late Paul Banks. Survived by husband, Gary Melick of Canal Winchester; mother, Helen Banks of Hanover; son, Jason (Brittany) Melick of Columbus; daughter, Adrienne (Todd) Carter of Columbus; brother, Mark Banks of Hanover; sisters, Beverly Amos of Newark, Sally Lewis of Newark, Pamela Broseus of Utica and Terri Sidle of Newark; nieces and nephews; numerous aunts and uncles. PENNINGTON Roberta J. "Bobbi" Pennington, 66, of Mansfield, died Sunday evening, August 18, 2002 at Lexington Court Care Center after an extended illness. Mrs. Pennington was born November 27, 1935 in Columbus, Oh. and was a Mansfield area resident for the past 37 years. She was employed as a Medical Transcriptionist at MedCentral Crestline Hospital. Bobbi loved her job, children and family and was a member of First Church of God. She is survived by 2 sons and 1 daughter-in-law, T. Scott Pennington of Mansfield and A. Todd and Loretta Pennington of Hawaii; daughter Cyndra Cornell of the Cincinnati area; 2 grandchildren, Robert Fisher and Lindsey Fisher; 1 great-grandson, Andrew Fisher; cousins and their spouses, Pauline and Bill Lingo of Columbus, Margaret and Larry Bryan of Fredericktown, Lisa and Danny Pullem of Butler; and an uncle and aunt, Harold L. and Cora Stinson of Granville, Oh. The family would like to give a special thanks to her friends at church, work and the Cracker Barrel for their help and a special thanks to Steven Fisher, for helping with the care of Bobbi. REED Fred W. "Buddy" Reed, age 82, passed August 16, 2002 Grant Medical Center. Sgt. 1st Class, U.S. Army WW II veteran serving in Africa, Italy, Germany and the Philippines. Retired DSCC. Active in Boy Scouts for many years and was Assistant Scout Master in former Troop 48. Survived by wife, Florene; sons, Fred O. Reed, Michael (Terrie) Reed and Mark Reed; brother, Forest Reed; great-great-nephew (like a son), Brian D. (Bill George) of Worthington whom he helped to raise and considered him to be his son. SPARKS Rev. Delmar Sparks, age 74, of Westerville, passed away in Estes Park, Colo. After pastoring several Enterprise Baptist Churches he was the Founding Pastor of Westerville Freewill Baptist Church. He faithfully served his congregation for 30 years where he taught them by example to love and serve God and each other. During his retirement, he continued to serve as interium pastor at other FWB churches in the area. He served on the General Board of the National Assn. Of FWB for 20+ years and various boards of the Ohio Assn. of FWB. He served his country in the U.S. Army. Preceded in death by son Michael, parents John Wesley and Mary Vesta Sparks, brothers Duell and Darrell Sparks and sister Neva Baker. Survived by loving wife, Anne Lee; daughter, Pamela (Tony) Ennamorato; daughter-in-law, Ardy Sparks; grandsons, Shawn Dameron, Josuha, Jason and Justin Sparks; sisters, Opal Barker and Marlene Wells. He was a devoted son, husband, father, grandfather, brother, minister, pastor, friend who will be sadly missed by everyone whose life he touched.
