KAPRAL Marina G. Kapral, age 84, Tuesday, August 27, 2002 in Wheeling, W.Va., after a lengthy illness. Marina was born in Leon, Nicaragua on July 18, 1918. She is preceded in death by her father and mother Jose and Elisa, step-father Bernardo, brothers Fausto, Domingo and Rudolfo. She is survived by her husband, Frank; children, Fredrick, Gloria and Robert; sisters, Alba and Albina; grandson, Damian; granddaughter, Nicole; great-granddaughter, Isabella; and numerous nieces and nephews. Marina obtained her degree in pharmacy from the University of Leon, Nicaragua and then offered her services to the local civil health offices. In 1947 she received a scholarship to attend Smith College in the USA to study English. Subsequently she attended the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy and Sciences (now the University of Science in Philadelphia) to obtain a BS degree in Pharmacy. She worked in retail pharmacy until 1951 when she met her husband to be. In 1952 she took a course in parasitology at the Center for Disease Control in Atlanta, Ga. and after her return was in charge of doing parasitology evaluations in the GI Clinic at Hahnemann Hospital in Philadelphia. During this time she also taught parasitology to the medical students rotating through the clinic. She continued to work in research while raising her children until 1967 when the family moved to Columbus, Oh. where her husband had obtained a professorship in the College of Medicine at The Ohio State University. After her children were grown, she perused numerous art courses, specializing in ceramics, lithography, etching, silkscreen oil painting and bronze casting, and in 1995 obtained the BFA degree from The Ohio State University. Marina was a long-time member of St. Peter's Parish, and was active in church affairs. She served on the Parish Council from 1988 to 1990, and was a frequent Communion server at the Sunday 9:30 a.m. Mass. Friends may call Tuesday at the NOVAK FUNERAL HOME, 4476 N. MARBLE Albert Philbrick Marble, 93, of Riverview, Fla., died August 28, 2002 at home. Formerly of Sandusky and Columbus, Oh. Application Engineer, Air Conditions. Member Christian Science Church in Toledo. Retired from Janitrol Furnace Co. Member of York Rite Masonic Lodge 659, Toledo, Oh. Survived by wife, Jean V. Marble; daughter, Betty Lou Denney; grandchildren, Randy and wife, Janice Denney, all of Riverview, Fla. and Steve Denney of Columbus, Oh.; great-grandchild, Roman Denney; sister, Lois McGreevy of Toledo, Oh.

MacDONALD Margaret Regina MacDonald, of Upper Arlington, born in Zanesville, Oh. January 8, 1925, passed away Wednesday, August 28, 2002 at Riverside Methodist Hospital. Regina was a long time resident of Upper Arlington and a devoted member of St. Andrews Church. She is preceded in death by her parents Charles and Margaret (Grimes) Thomas of Zanesville and brothers James and Earl "Pepper" Thomas. Surviving are her sister, Arlene (Hugh) Imlay of Newark and her brother, Charles (Glenna) Thomas of S. Zanesville; sons, Tom (Ronnie) Rosen of Va., Bob (Stephanie) MacDonald, Mark (Wendy) MacDonald of S.C.; daughters, Carla MacDonald of Tex. and Theresa MacDonald of Clintonville; 5 grandchildren; nieces, nephews and dear friends. Regina was a dedicated wife and mother for over 30 years then, went back to school to obtain a B.A. degree from Franklin University. She worked for Buckeye Federal for 10 years as a loan officer. Regina enjoyed her job and the people she worked with over the years. In retirement, she was a loyal member of the McConnell Health Center Pulmonary Group where she shared many happy hours with fellow group members and instructors. Although she struggled with some difficult health problems the last several years, Regina was an inspiration to all who knew her. She had so much spunk, spirit and fight right up to the time she left this life for a much better one. Regina had a steady and strong faith in God that never wavered. A memorial mass will be held 11:30 a.m. on August 31, 2002 at St. Andrews Church, 1988 McCoy Rd., Upper Arlington. Fr. Michael Watson, Celebrant. PEVNY Chrysteen B. Pevny, age 73, of Pickerington, Oh., went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, August 28, 2002 at her residence. She was born September 30, 1928 in Hopewell, Va. to the late Sherman B. and Ida A. McGlothlin. Faithful member of Violet Baptist Church. Survived by John, loving husband of 45 years; sons, James R. and Richard D. (Cori) Pevny; grandchildren, Jason, Andrew, Cassie and Cami Chrysteen. PLETCHER Mary L. Pletcher, of Newmans-Cardington Road East, Cardington, and a former Boardman resident, died early Thursday evening, August 29, 2002 at Marion General Hospital. She was born December 31, 1920 in St. Louis, Mo. Survivors include 3 sons and their spouses, Donald W. and Alida Pletcher of Cardington, Robert J. Pletcher of Denver, Colo., Thomas D. and Jill Pletcher of Wichita, Kan.; daughter-in-law, Lynda Pletcher of Avon, Conn.; grandchildren, William, James, Reuellyn and Amy Pletcher; sister, Dolores (Mrs. Harry) Corbin of Casselberry, Fla. SELZER Patricia D. "Patty" Selzer, of Canal Winchester was 45 years young, went to be with her Nanny, Wednesday, August 28, 2002 at Grant Medical Center. She was a member of Lithopolis United Methodist Church, a 1976 graduate of Canal Winchester High School, a former volunteer at Slate Run Farm, and a former member of the Canal Winchester High School Band Boosters. Patty loved her job as a customer service representative at the J.C. Penney's Catalog Center, loved her children and having celebrations. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her. Patty is survived by her husband, Greg; her children, T.R. TANNER Janet E. Tanner, 79, of Sidehill Trail, Sugarloaf, Pa., died Friday morning at the Greater Hazleton Health Alliance, Broad Street Campus, following a sudden illness. Born in Watertown, N.Y., September 14, 1922, she was the daughter of the late N. Earl and Dorothy Evans. She spent the past 17 years in Sugarloaf after moving from Columbus, Oh., where she had lived for 20 years. She was a housewife and member of St. John Bosco RC Church, Conyngham. She was preceded in death, in addition to her parents, by her husband Robert I. Tanner, who died December 20, 1996, brother N. Earl Jr., twin brother James J. and sisters Betty Drisko and Doris Romano. Surviving are 5 children, Mrs. Edward (Dorothy) Mete, Valhalla, N.Y., Mrs. Michael (Suzanne) Wade, Middletown, Oh., Robert Jr. and William, both of Columbus, Oh. and Richard of Drums, Pa.; sister, Martha McCall, Somerset, N.J.; 19 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren. VanWAY Beulah M. VanWay, 88, of 271 Adams St., Corning, Oh., died at 8:35 a.m. on Friday, August 30, 2002 at Genesis-Good Samaritan Medical Center, Zanesville, Oh. Born July 1, 1914 in Corning, Oh. Mrs. VanWay was a cook and waitress at the former Maxwells Restaurant in Corning. Member of Bethany United Methodist Church, Corning and a lifetime member of Ladies Auxiliary of the Corning Eagles. Survived by daughter, Sally Sanders of Glouster; sons, Donald VanWay of Corning, Willard VanWay of Corning and Ted VanWay of Delaware; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; sisters, Helen Bibbee and Nora Richards, both of Parkersburg, W.Va. YOAKAM Elsie Kennedy Yoakam, age 76, of Mt. Vernon, died Friday, August 30, 2002 at the Knox Community Hospital in Mt. Vernon. Elsie was born November 17, 1925 in Columbus to William E. Jones and Sadie Frances (Hartsook) Jones. She was an active member of the Colonial City Baptist Church near Mt. Vernon. Surviving are her son, Wayne (Linda) Kennedy of Ostrander; step-son, Gary (Flo) Yoakam of Tex.; step-daughter, LaVeta (Roy) Robson of Newark; grandsons, Ryan Kennedy and Kevin Kennedy; brothers, Eugene Jones of Reynoldsburg and Phillip Jones of Redmond, Wash.; sisters, Audrey Liming of Mt. ARICK David Lee Arick, 75, went home to be with the Lord Sunday, September 1, 2002. A lifelong resident of Grove City, David was born to Helen and Ralph Arick on June 19, 1927. He graduated from Grove City High School in 1944 and received his bachelors and masters degrees from The Ohio State University and University of Michigan respectively. David was happiest in teaching others and enriching their lives through education. He spent over 20 years as an instructor at Paul C. Hayes Technical High School in the roles of electronics teacher ad job placement coordinator. He also worked as a professor at Columbus State Community College and served 2 terms on the Grove City council beginning in 1952. He spent time as a flight instructor and worked with Jimmy Rawlins teaching ballroom dance. He also taught ballroom dancing for Southwestern City Schools adult education program. David was a U.S. Navy veteran serving our country during WW II. He is a member of The American Legion Post #164 and a member of the Grove City First Presbyterian Church. David enjoyed spending time with family and friends and he enjoyed playing and joking with his grandchildren. He will be missed by many. He was preceded in death by his mother and father. He is survived by his devoted wife, Shirley; sister, Donna (Edwin) Smith; daughters, Pamela (Thomas) Doggett, Andrea (Aaron) Young; sons, Mark Adams and Dan Arick; grandsons, Nicholas and Aidan Young; granddaughters, Krystle Perez and Katlynn Adams; mother and father-in-law, Helen and James Hedrick; brother-in-law, James Hedrick, Jr. and his family; dear friends, Charles Karns, Jim Edman, Garrett Myers; many nieces and nephews and other friends. ASHWORTH Marietta Ashworth, age 72, fell asleep in the Lord suddenly on Monday, September 2, 2002 at Riverside Hospital. A lifelong resident of the Columbus area (Clintonville and Worthington). Born March 18, 1930, she was preceded in death by her parents Tom and Vasilia Petsef, brother Peter Petsef, aunts and uncles Ted and Angeline Elech, Boris Dimovich, Nick and John Stevens, Jim and Joan Steven Tanas, and Maria Papastergiou, Greece, cousins James Elech, David and Jimmy Stevens, Elaine (Bob) Hayman and Barbara Daily, grandparents Theodore and Konstantine Stefanovich and numerous first cousins in Greece. Member of the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral, The Annunciation Cathedral Choir, 50-Plus, and the Philoptochos Society. A graduate of Columbus North High School, Class of 1947. She was a very active member of the 1947 Class Reunion Committee and sang in the North High Alumni Choir. A loyal "Polar Bear" to her death. She loved her church, religion, and singing in the Annunciation Cathedral Choir. A kind, considerate, and very loving person, Marietta always had a big smile and a kind word for everyone. Her trip to Greece and Macedonia in 1996 to see her father's and mother's birthplaces and meet her many cousins, and the trip to the Holy Land in 1997 were the highlights of her life. She treasured her family here in Columbus and in Greece. She is survived by her loving husband of 49 years, Bill Ashworth; her loving family, daughter, Diane (Steve) Collins; son, Steven Ashworth and his fiancee, Sharon Smith; granddaughters, Kristin and Stephanie Ashworth; aunt, Anna Dimovich; cousins, Anne (Zdravko) Nickolovski, Newark, Oh., Joyce Dimovich, George (Coralene) Dimovich, Tom and John Elech, Paul (Suzanne) Elech, Chris (Marilyn) Papastergiou, Lavetta (Tom) Payne, Danny (Carole) Stevens, Patty (Jim) Fritz, Larry Stevens and Janet (Mike) Bevan; niece, Rhonda (Cam) McGuire; nephew, Rodan (Shelley) Petsef; sister-in-law, Irene Stevens; and special friends, Rose and Andy Harbelis; numerous second and third cousins and friends. BARRETT Evelyn B. Barrett, 85, of Chillicothe, went to be with her Lord and Savior 7:30 a.m. Monday, September 2, 2002 in the Valley View Alzheimer Care Center, following an extended illness. She was born October 2, 1916 in Grand Rapids, Mich. to the late Grover C. and Marie R. O'Leary Goshorn. She was married October 7, 1939 to Orville J. Barrett, who died August 24, 1986. Surviving are sons and daughters-in-law, John D. and Kathy Barrett of Reynoldsburg, James M. and Sandra Barrett of Grove City; daughter-in-law, Joan E. Cochenour of Chillicothe; 11 grandchildren, Rich Barrett, Mark (Stacey) Barrett, Sherry Blissenbach, Thom (Madonna) Eisnaugle, Stephen II (Erinn) Cochenour, Matthew (Gracie) Cochenour, Timothy (Emily) Cochenour, J. Andrew Cochenour, Jennifer Barrett, Emilee Barrett and Mylee (Marvin) Snyder; 8 great-grandchildren, Ryan Barrett, Hunter Blissenbach, Jacob Wilhelm, Ireland Eisnaugle, Hunter Cochenour, Levi Cochenour, Briana Snyder and Corbin Snyder. She was predeceased by her brother Hubert Goshorn and son-in-law Stephen Cochenour. Mrs. Barrett was a member of the Chillicothe Bible Church. BRANDENBURG-WHITED Dorothy Mae Brandenburg-Whited, 79, resident of Good Shepherd Nursing Home in Fostoria, died 6:50 p.m. Saturday, August 31, 2002. Born February 17, 1923 in San Angelo, Tex., daughter of Ralph and Ethel (Albritton) Youngblood. Retired in 1983 as Kitchen Manager and Cook for the Lexington Local School District in Lexington, Oh. Member First Church of the Nazarene in Fostoria, Oh. 1940 graduate of South Park High School in Beaumont, Tex. Recipient of the "Distinguished Service Award" from the First Church of the Nazarene, former Church Board Member, Missionary President, Ladies Bible Study, Sunday School Teacher and Prime Time Coordinator. Preceded in death by parents, husbands M. Ray Brandenburg, whom she married September 25, 1945 in Mansfield, he died January 20, 1976, she then married Paul Whited on August 15, 1981 in Mansfield, he died October 21, 1983 and sister Maridel Dudley. Survived by son, David R. Brandenburg of Columbus; daughters, Brenda G. Brandenburg of Nashville, Tenn., Mrs. Herb (Carol S.) CARLO Shirlee A. Carlo, age 69, of Lakeview, Oh. and Venice, Fla., went to be with the Lord on Monday, September 2, 2002. Dedicated and loving wife of Paul P. Carlo. Cherished mother of son, James F. Carlo of Fenton, Mich.; daughters, Cheri Paris-Davis of Columbus, Jayme Edwards of Hubert, N.C. and Leeann Hatfield of Gahanna, Oh.; beloved grandmother to 6 grandchildren, Nicole, Peyton and Spencer Carlo, Jenna and Landon Edwards and Adam Hatfield. Retired from Sheet Metal Workers Local Union #98. Friends and family received Saturday 2-5 p.m. at the MAEDER-QUINT-TIBERI FUNERAL HOME, 1068 S. High St., where service will be held Saturday time to be determined.
