FIEDLER Donald Fiedler, 73, of 125 Hogan Circle, died Sunday, September 15, 2002. A native of Chicago, Ill., he was the son of the late George F. and Martha Schreiner Fiedler. He was retired from Mastron Scale as a Manufacturing Engineer, was of the Methodist faith, and attended Purdue University. Survivors include his wife, Lois Ilene Johnson Fiedler; 3 daughters, Linda Bonner of Oak Park, Ill., Jan Kilbride of Toledo, Oh. and Donna This of Orange Park, Fla.; son, Bruce Fiedler of Key West, Fla.; brother, Robert Fiedler of Santa Ana, Calif.; 8 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren. FISCHER Norma J. Fischer, age 72, of Columbus, was reunited with her recently deceased husband of 43 years, Robert "Bob" Fischer, September 22, 2002. Norma will always be remembered as a gentle woman who loved and cared for her family most of all. Those left to cherish her memory are children, Donna Center, Richard (Rebecca) Campbell, Debra, Robert Jr., and Joan; grandchildren, Stephanie, Craig, and Becca; 1 great-grandson; sisters, Charlotte (Fred) Floyd, Jimmy (Johnny) Faller, and Jackie Watson; brother, Bobby Gaylon; sister-in-law, Jeanne (Richard) Burke; brother-in-law, John (Peggy) Fischer; lifelong friends, Opal and Carla Huffman; and many other extended family members and friends. GANZ Ernest H. Ganz, age 80, of Grove City, Saturday, September 21, 2002 at home, after a courageous battle with cancer. Member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, an avid bowler & fisherman. Ernest loved spending time with his grandkids. Preceded in death by parents Herman & Agnes Ganz, sister Marie and brother John. Survived by loving wife of 54 years, Thelma; children Tom (Susan) Ganz and Patti (Joe) Gaietto; grandchildren, Jason, Stacey, Jill and Vincent; great-grandchildren, Jade and Lyric; special affection for Marge and Andy Gray, their son Andy (Jane) and their family. GROSSENBACHER Linda R. Grossenbacher graced the presence of God on September 22, 2002. She lost a two-year battle with ovarian cancer. As we gather our grievances to mourn the loss of Linda it is inevitable that we may too, grasp composure and celebrate the amazing life she lived. Linda will be remembered for being a loving mother and a wonderful wife who's smile never dwindled. Her passion to fight her cancer was flooded with strength and courage deep within her soul. She is survived by her husband, Gary and her two daughters, Shelly and Julie; her father, Bob Lynch of Payson, Arizona; two sisters, Kathy Epps of San Diego California, and Patty O' Donnell of Powell, Ohio; two brothers, Kirk Lynch of Mammoth Lakes, California, and Jim Lynch of O'Fallon, Illinois. Visitation will be held on September 24 at SCHOEDINGER FUNERAL HOME, 6699 High Street, Worthington from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. A private funeral will be held on Wednesday, September 25. GUIDRY John Norris Guidry, age 62, Saturday, September 21, 2002 at the residence. A volunteer for CAMAACO for over 7 years. Preceded in death by parents Lydia Pellet and Voorhies Guidry. Survived by loving companion, JoAnn Taylor; devoted and closest friends, Vance (Inez) Valentine, Horace (Louise) Brown, Charles Whitlow and the Slaughter family, all of Columbus; also a host of uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. HERBSTER Robert "Bob" Alton Herbster, age 94, passed on to be with his beloved wife of over 50 years, Pearl Irene, on September 21, 2002. He leaves behind to celebrate his life his children, Barbara (Harry) McKnight, Tom (Susan) Herbster of Columbus and Carol (David) Lamp of Merritt Island, FL; grandchildren, Tim (Karen) McKnight of New Philadelphia, OH, Tom (Liz) McKnight of Highlands Ranch, CO, Cara (Tom) Hering of Delaware, OH, Chris Herbster and fiancée, Heather Phillips, and Kelly Herbster of Columbus, Garrett (Missy) Lamp, Justin (Ellen) Lamp and Megan (Jacob) Owens of Merritt Island, FL. He also leaves 10 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews, friends and neighbors. Bob was born on 23 May 1908 to Herman A. and Eva (Weber) Herbster at Put-in-Bay, OH, where he was raised and worked in his father's store beginning at age 7. Bob finished his last year of school at Columbus East High School and went on to The Ohio State University to become an Electrical Engineer. While he was at OSU, he was a proud member of the Ohio State Men's Glee Club and the Radio Club. After Ohio State he was employed as construction inspector for the City of Columbus assigned to the City Water Treatment Plant. Upon it's completion, he was retained as the Chief Electrical Engineer for the Plant. He was a member of the Democratic Glee Club during this time. During World War II, the mayor of Columbus kept Bob on the home front as one of two engineers to run the city. During this time he was an Air Raid Warden. From 1948 to 1970 he was with Jeffery Mining Manufacturing Co. as their Superintendent of Power and Maintenance. He was a Special Member of the Red Cross Emergency Power Committee for Disaster Service. In 1954 he started an Automatic Garage Door installation business. After Bob retired from Jeffery he became a consulting Electrical Engineer and later worked with J.R. Hughes Company. Bob was a member of the Hilltop Kiwanis, the Westgate Masonic Lodge and a member of the Aladdin Shrine where he was Sound System Supervisor for 7 years. In 1967 Bob and Pearl moved from the Hilltop to Ridgewood Estates in Hilliard. He was president of the Hilliard Democratic Club. He was a president of Hoge Memorial Church Men's Club and sang in the choir. He was treasurer of the Scioto Ridge Methodist JOY Club. Bob and Pearl traveled many places as members of the Gypsy Travel Club. His latest service was as a volunteer for the Put-in-Bay Perry's Memorial Group. His hobbies were his family, gardening, electronics and reading. We, left behind, will miss his charm and good example, but we know he once again can "see clearly" and enjoy his time with Pearl and other family members and loved ones who have passed through this life. Family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, September 25 (to include a Masonic Service) and beginning at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday at SCHOEDINGER EAST CHAPEL, 5360 E. Livingston Ave., Columbus, where funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m Thursday. Interment will immediately follow the service at Sunset cemetery in Galloway, OH. HOUCK Nellie G. Houck, age 95, of Columbus, died Monday morning, September 23, 2002 at Mt. Carmel East Hospital, Columbus. Born October 1, 1906 in Gallia County, she was the daughter of the late John and Theodotia Stover Shaw. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Syrus Lee Houck, by a grandchild, 11 sisters, 2 brothers and 1 infant sibling. She retired from the Gallipolis Clinic and was also a former employee of the Holzer Medical Center. She is survived by 2 daughters, Wanda (Jerry) Cavinee of Sunbury and Virginia Trotter of Asheville; 2 sons, Cyrus Ray (Maxine) Houck of Columbus and Robert (Sandra) Houck of New Albany; 12 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren. Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Thursday, September 26, 2002 at the WAUGH-HALLEY-WOOD FUNERAL HOME, 810 Second Ave., Gallipolis with Pastor Jim Lusher officiating. LANDS William M. Lands, Jr., 71, formerly of Mt. Sterling, died September 23, 2002 at his residence in Chillicothe. He was born January 19, 1931 in Monroe, Oh., the son of William and Susan (Fraley) Lands, Sr. Preceded in death by parents, wife Annabelle, November 30, 2001, daughter Connie Lands, brothers Shady and Eugene, sister Wilma Taylor. Survived by children, Wayne (Vera) Lands of Deltona, Fla., Mike (Rose) Lands of Bryan, Cecil (Teresa) Lands of Paulding, Tim (Gail) Lands of Montpelier, Pam Adams of Chillicothe, Susan (Ricky) Estep of Columbus; 22 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; sisters, Mary Delay of Mt. Sterling, Mabel Montavon of Wheelersburg, Oh., Elnora Bays of Mt. Sterling; brother, Paul Lands of Greenup, Ky.; several nieces and nephews. LAWSON Marilyn Louise (Borton) Lawson, age 67, of Valrico, Florida, died at home, Friday, September 20, 2002. She was active in the Brandon Elks and was an avid quilter. She was preceded in death by her parents Leslie and Doris Borton of Columbus. She is survived by sons, John Kotson of Austin, Tex. and James (Kelly) Kotson of Loganville, Ga.; daughter, Peggy Morse of Long Beach, Calif.; sisters, Sharon (Tim) Mitchell of Lithopolis, Oh. and Carol (Brian) Babcock of Churchville, N.Y.; 6 grandchildren; nieces, nephews and a brother. LESCO Joseph J. Lesco, age 92, Sunday, September 22, 2002 at the Kobacker House after a short illness. Born October 15, 1909, the son of John and Mary Lesko. MYERS Leonard "Pat" R. Myers Jr., formerly of West Jefferson, Oh., Friday, September 20, 2002 at his residence in Avon Park, Fla. A WW II Veteran of the U.S. Army. Member of the American Legion. An avid golfer. Member of the Optimist Club of West Jefferson, Athletic Hall of Fame West Jefferson High School. Employed for 35 years as a Supervisor with Columbus Showcase Cabinets. Survived by loving wife of 54 years, Martha; children, Sharon Myers of Powell and son, Dale Myers of West Jefferson; 4 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; sisters, Helen Gallas, Grace Byerly, both of West Jefferson, Rosemary Terry of New Rome; brother, James Myers of West Jefferson. McCLELLAN Ballard McClellan, Jr., age 61, Saturday, September 21, 2002. Member of Shining Light Baptist Church of Hilliard, where he was an Honorary Deacon. Employed for 35 years by Columbus Coated Fabrics. Preceded in death by parents Ballard and Burvie McClellan and brother James R. McClellan. Survived by loving wife of 39 years, Betty; son, Gene Allen of Columbus; granddaughters, Brooke N. and Kelsea T.; brother and sisters, Raymond P. (Betty) McClellan, Belva (Wallace) Baker, all of Warren, Georgia (Don) Hall of London; sister-in-law, Relma McClellan; numerous other loving relatives and a host of friends. O'BRIEN, O.P. Sister Mary George O'Brien, O.P. (1909-2002). On Friday morning, September 20, in the presence of her Dominican Sisters, Sr. Mary George died peacefully in Mohun Health Care Center. Sister was born in New York City 93 years ago, daughter of George and Mary (Corcoran) O'Brien who were natives of Ireland. She received her early education at Annunciation School in Manhattan, and at the Pius X School with the Madames of the Sacred Heart. In 1931 she came to Columbus, Ohio to the novitiate of the Dominican Sisters where she has served as a professed member for 71 years. In preparation for her teaching ministry she attended St. Mary of the Springs College and then received a Master's degree in history from Fordham University. She spent her first sixteen years teaching in elementary schools. Then in 1947 she was appointed superior and principal of Holy Trinity High School in Somerset, a position she filled for six years. She was actively engaged in teaching for 62 years, and 41 of those years were spent in the Archdiocese of New York. From 1959 to 1967 she served as sub-prioress at Mary Immaculate School, in Ossining and the last 26 years of her active ministry, from 1967 to 1993, were spent in one place, her beloved Dominican Academy in New York. In 1993 she returned to Columbus and three years later her health required that she enter Mohun Health Care Center. Sr. Mary George will be remembered by her students as well as her sisters as a gentle woman with a genuine concern for their welfare and a willingness to be available for them. Hers was a long and faithful life. Sister is survived by a number of nieces and nephews in New York and in Florida. The wake will be in the Motherhouse on Tuesday, September 24 from 2-4 and 5-6 p.m. A Vigil Service of Remembrance will be on Tuesday from 4-5 p.m. in the Chapel. The funeral liturgy will be in the Motherhouse Chapel on Tuesday evening at 7 p.m. Burial will take place at St. Joseph's cemetery on Wednesday morning following a 10 a.m. Farewell Service at the Motherhouse. OLFENBUTTEL Ingrid Olfenbuttel, age 63, of Upper Arlington, passed away September 20, 2002, after fighting a challenging battle with pancreatic cancer. She remained strong and beautiful as she passed peacefully at home, surrounded by family. Born in Emden, Germany on October 29, 1938, she was the youngest of five siblings and grew up during WWII on the North Sea island of Borkum. After extensive travel in Europe, she attended university in Madrid, Spain and later came to the United States. In 1969, she met Robert Olfenbuttel in Florida and they were married in January of 1970. After Robert's retirement from the Air Force, they moved to Upper Arlington and Ingrid lovingly made this new place "home". She returned to banking in 1990, first with Century Bank and then by proudly helping to open and work for the Arlington Bank. After helping hundreds of customers, she retired in 2000 and enjoyed gardening, rescuing stray animals, antiquing and helping her daughters decorate their homes. She is preceded in death by her parents Astrid and Horst Kessler. She is survived by her caring husband, Robert; daughters, Astrid and Colleen; sisters, Astrid Flanders of Michigan and Helga Franssen of Germany; brothers, Udo Kessler of Florida and Rolf Kessler of Germany; several nieces and nephews whom she showered with children's books and was known as "The Book Aunt". No funeral services will be held, but a private celebration of her life will be held for family and close friends. In lieu of flowers, friends may help further research on this little understood cancer by sending contributions to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (PANCAN), 2221 Rosecrans Ave., Suite 131, El Segundo, CA 90245 in her memory.

PEDELA Angie N. Pedela, age 85, of Gahanna/Columbus, Sunday, September 22, 2002. Lifetime manager in Food Service. Preceded in death by husband Richard A. Pedela. Survived by children, Pauline and Joe Hartman of Parma, Oh., Dr. Anthony R. and Judith Pedela of Westerville, Sandra Pirrone of Dublin, Oh.; 8 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. PRITCHARD Connie Sue Pritchard, 50, passed away Sunday, September 22, 2002 at OSU Medical Center East. She is survived by father, Charles (Norma) Davis and mother, Norma (Robert) Barnes, both of Circleville; son, Randolph L. Pritchard of Columbus; daughters, Tracy (Jim) Myers of Laurelville, Oh and Julie (Stoney) Korn of Chillicothe; brothers, John Davis and Michael (Lani) Davis, both of Circleville, Raymond Davis of Greenfield, Oh and Charles C. (Sherri) Davis of Ashville, Oh; sisters, Ida (John) Kennedy of Circleville and Candee (Josh) Crosby of Ashville, Oh.; 4 grandchildren; special friends, Randy Ramsey, Frederick Alexander, Linda Smalley; and a host of other relatives and friends. RAINS Mary Elizabeth Foster (Frye) Rains died September 22, 2002. She was born February 1, 1912 in Lima, Ohio, the daughter of Grace Hare and Burt Rockhill Foster. She graduated from Scott High School in Toledo, Ohio and attended Ohio Wesleyan University. Mary was a responsible and loving care giver beginning at age eight and continuing all her life. She did so with style and grace. She worked at WBNS Radio as Music Director until retirement after 24 years, and Department of Development of the State of Ohio until she retired in 1978. She was a member of Gamma Phi Beta sorority, and Broad Street Presbyterian Church where she served as Deacon. After retirement she enjoyed travel in Europe and China, her beautiful gardens from which she provided weekly bouquets for her dear friends, painting, reading mysteries and The New Yorker, but mostly she enjoyed sharing fully in the lives of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and the companionship of her pets. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of only six years, James Francis Rains, her parents and step-father, Homer E. Frye, and brother Thomas N. Foster. She is survived by her sister, Julia Winetrout (Kenneth) of Springfield, Mass.; sister-in-law. Ruth Foster of Oceanside, Calif.; daughters, Julia Nusken (Ralph E.) of Columbus, Oh. and Victoria Miller (Michael A.) of Savannah, Ga.; grandchildren, Elizabeth Nusken (John Wuorinen), James, and Matthew Nusken (Sarah Jones) all of Columbus, Oh., Scott Miller (Mary Ellen Bageris) of Troy, Mich., and Julia Gaffney (Edward) of Columbus, Ga.; great-grandchildren, Conrad, Alec, and Calvin Wuorinen, Elena, Suzanne, and Jennifer Miller, Mary and Frank Gaffney; nephews, Thomas N. Foster of Phoenix, Ariz., Mark Winetrout of Southbridge, Mass.; niece, Nancy Winetrout Schenck (William) of Winthrop, Me.
